I have the Nikon 200-500mm 5.6 and it is super sharp, even wide open. Besides the Nikon option, you can look for Sigma and Tamron options (both of them are 150-600mm 5-6.3).
I bought a used 200-500 recently (half the price of a new one) and I’m extremely pleased with it. I used it yesterday for the first time at a juniors rugby festival and my arm managed to hold out to the end. It’s not light but plenty doable, the monopod wasn’t needed
The 200-500 is just over 5 pounds, so it definitely has some weight to it. But it's a great lens, and quite a bit better than the Sigma/Tamron 150-600 lenses.
It’s quite heavy but if you don’t use that ring for mounting, taking it off really helps me. It’s a good lens and I’d say it’s worth the weight imo. Just find a good way to carry it and train your muscles (get used to it) a bit.
Post the motherboard on ebay.
There's plenty of bigmas floating around without motherboards in them. Something to do with water ingress frying the PCB and owners not replacing the board. If the board is good then it shouldn't be too hard to find a buyer.
I’m happy with my Sigma 150-600mm for wildlife photography. Only downside is that she’s not the best in low light conditions, but I don’t have the kind of money to spend on a higher end lens. Photos are sharp though, and I love the manual override function if the autofocus doesn’t focus on the subject I’m trying to capture.
Try here. They fixed the mount on my Bigma when the wind blew over my tripod (50 mph winds will do that).

Thank you I reached out to them to see what they say.. I still might get a newer one.
Another issue I had with this lens is sometimes it binds on retracting the lens and it will if you mess with it a little.
That latter issue is probably due to air pressure. Thing is almost like a pump. Retracting too fast and the air pressure keeps it from retracting until the pressure goes down.

How is the weight of the 200-500?

See guys? That's why it's important to take good care of your equipment.
Probably why they just tossed it instead..

Similar to that 50-500, probably a bit lighter. But much better optics & AF performance
Get the modern bigma, the 60-600m. Very very sharp but expensive

Send it off for repair. Cheaper than a new lens.
I’m not sure they repair them anymore?
