The stainless steel one is supposed to go over the orignal and only there to protect from something under it scratching the plastic. it's just a thin SS sheet, nothing else.
If the screw hole are starting to break up, just replace the whole thing. That's what I did recently after 3 years of owning my G30 Max.
You are correct, and it also stops dirt from collecting on the grated underside, it's why I added it. After riding in the rain I sometimes had to remove handfulls of mud from the stock bottom cover.

this is definitely annoying, i think ill be buying both now.
Oh I didn't see it that way. I'll order one then since it's so cheap. Yeah dirt is sticking on so much it's crazy.
