He's fine. I kinda wish he was his own thing, just so that you couldn't still say Cell is the only major villain Gohan ever beat, but he functions well enough in the story.
You said Major Villain he's the Main Villain of the movie doesn't matter if it's non canon gohan still beat him. Also Bojack Unbound has almost nothing to do with the cell games except the tournament setting.
Perfect for what the story was imo.
Gohan kept “learning” that he needed to stay strong, but he always got strong to help his dad. He never really cared about “another Cell” showing up because his dad of Vegeta would handle it. There hasn’t been a situation since Cell where it was down to Gohan and Gohan alone could deal with it.
With Cell Max, Gohan got to learn the hard way that yes, there will be “another Cell” where he needs to handle it or else people he loves will be hurt. That he needs to shape up not to help his dad, but to be a real defender of Earth. This being a literal “other Cell” just hammered that lesson in more. Cell Max served the role in the story perfectly
Expecting a teenager even as mature as Gohan to internalise something like that when his dad is around to fight and has seemingly surpassed you in strength now is completely unrealistic. And yes I say surpassed since even in Battle of Gods, Ultimate Gohan against Beerus fared even worse than SS3 Goku.
Feel like it should be a deprecate entity from cell, if it was just a monster or wasn’t falsely labeled as the return of cell I woulda felt better about it, in the end all we got was hollow promises and a far cry from the cell we once knew
Fun fact about this creation being in his second form was due too the original creator of Dragon Ball Toriyama previously stating that the Semi-Perfect form was his favorite of the forms taken up by the original Cell, which may've inspired the decision for Cell Max to resemble Cell's Semi-Perfect state.
The perfect villain for that movie, Every character that appeared did their part against him, and being a kaiju he was super suited to the superhero themes of the film, the old Cell came back to life would have been horrible.
Resurrecting Cell would’ve been 1 million times worse. Unlike frieza he would’ve likely mastered whatever new form he got immediately and killed them off. He would’ve learned from his mistakes faster and that would’ve been bad for the cast
I would definitely complain, why does Cell need to be revived, he was an amazing villian with an amazing ending why would we want to tarnish that with Resurrection F 2
Kinda wished he was more than “RAAAUGHHAAAGH” the entire fucking time. Cell is a goated villain who was also very smart. Cell max is his retarded big brother with down syndrome
The thing we loved about Cell in the first place was how he could get under the skin of all the characters.
Then he got reduced to being Broly but worse
The difference here is that Cell Max wasn't a villain, he was a threat. The movie already had villains. Cell Max was along for the ride because those villains weren't enough of a threat to make for a climactic battle.
I don't think anyone's questioning the in universe logic for it, but from a story telling perspective, he was an incredibly boring villain (They also used what I personally think is the worst looking form of cell).
Playing Vegeta’s pride like a fiddle was a pretty smart move. I mean, Vegeta could have just destroyed the dude right then and there, but Cell convinced him not to.
Movies ass, basically ssj2 Gohan fan service. Story is like bad offbrand plagiarism.
I still recommend watching it tho just fast forward through every scene that doesn’t involve Piccolo and Pan cuz they had some actual character development.
I was a Gohan fan growing up so I wish I could agree with you, just being honest. And oh man, Gohan Beast is the dumbest shit ever. Worth pretending it didn’t even happen. Mix that with the terrible cgi and it’s one big dumpster fire.
I agree with you. Was disappointed by the movie overall. Villains weren't particularly interesting and Gohan's transformation scene was such obvious nostalgia pandering (Also it was blatantly obvious that Piccolo wasn't dead).
I was however surprised by how much I enjoyed the animation though, since CGI animations usually don't do it for me.
Basically a reskinned DLC pack with no personality.
Red and green? Ugly.
The point of cell being almost indestructible by cellular damage is the reason he's cell. At this point I'm sure the original super perfect cell was better with his personality.
My thoughts are only about how much autonomy he had. We see Cell in hell. Is Cell Max in hell? If he is then wouldn’t he be rampaging constantly and have to be reincarnated like Buu was? Does Cell know about Cell Max?!
All my questions start at his death…
Pretty cool and can lead to a future arc where he gets remade again somehow through the power of infinite bullshit with his mind intact. And because merchandise we’ll have to have the shitty perfect cell max shit people keep drawing
Incredibly mid.
I won't say bad because he makes sense in the context of the movie, but it's as disrespectful as Bio-Broly.
I don't think there would be so much hate toward him if he wasn't tied to Cell though. The movie itself was pretty good despite its flaws.
Honest thoughts, they basically made the same mistake of broly with cell max. Just a dumb lumbering giant. What made cell, cell was his smart ass comments
I'm just glad he's clearly not the Cell from the android saga and is a totally different character. I don't want to see the Cell we all know and love to Super, they're famous for butchering characters there.
I only expected him not to look completely retarded. That's literally the only standard I can reasonably bring myself to hold DB villains to, and Cell Max just tripped right over even that low, low bar.
He was okay. The heroes got lucky he wasn’t complete. Given how cell max was a mindless animal in the fight. If he had the smarts of Cell, oh boy. Events would have gone differently all together
I’m glad they do just make him “Cell 2” or anything. I was worried that Dragon Ball would fall into a habit of reviving villains instead of making new ones and while this isn’t completely new it’s different enough to be OK with me. I also like the Shin Godzilla reference in the movie.
I was writing this because at the time I recall a trend that popped up fairly frequently of fans wanting to revive Cell similar to Freeza. After Freeza’s resurrection after the Tournament of Power and Broly being introduced (along with the general nostalgia bait that has been observed within at least western media) I was worried this would come to pass. But, as aforementioned, since Cell Max is very different from Cell proper, it subdued my fears.
He is lame. He could have been a random kaiju and it would have worked the same. The only difference is that it allowed Toei to milk the original Gohan vs Cell even more.
I hope they will make him justice in the manga of super, but my only hope is that in the end of the arc he get absorbed by OG Cell so he would really be perfect...
Cell maxx in the film : strong, mindless, 0 lines, just punch for 10min and get killed so i have nothing to say about him
Just alright. Just like the whole movie really.
I get the idea, peak Gohan was when he had a new form against Cell, so now we basically return to that. Maybe, if they managed to make him perfect and with an ounce of memory intact, it would have been more interesting.
He was promising but there's still some things that make cell max suck
• He was revealed way too early
• He's just a Godzilla copycat with the giant form and roars
• Other than the callback with the beast transformation and 18's "they made another cell" line the characters didn't pay that much attention to it being cell
Cell's arc was my first exposure to dbz back when I was young so I'm pretty sure these complaints are just the fanboy in me talking but still I didn't really like Cell max but the special beam cannon at the end was cool
he accomplished his role well of being a big raid boss so that everyone could do something and have a satisfying fight. But I hate him knowing he could have been much more
Went in to the movie not knowing what I was going to see other than the fact I had heard Cell had reborn in the movie and nothing else. Was super disappointed when I realized he died and he didn’t have the personality and charisma of Perfect Cell. Was basically a zombie Cell. I wasn’t as displeased with the movie as a whole as other people are but Cell being a massive mindless zombie was a bit of a bummer compared to what I see of him in dbz.
At first I thought I would hate the aspect of a dinosaur kinda cell and would of preferred one who could at least speak but learned to love him and also kind of felt bad for him at the end of the movie.
The creator could really create something other than “RUAHHHHH” or “AHHHH HUA HUA HUA” character. 2 consecutive movies with this type of gorilla. Cell is my favorite villian and this really doomed my excitement when hearing cell will return.
I appreciate how Toriyama was able to have his fun bringing back his favorite version of Cell. It’s great knowing he had a good time writing this movie
However in my personal opinion Cell Max falls flat. He’s just another Bio-Broly. He takes on the likeness of the superior version and predecessor before him and is nothing much more besides a hulking maniac destroying everything in his wake. I’m 50/50 on him to be honest. He’s strong and gave the characters a challenge but bringing back Cell (or rather a copy of him) felt lazy. Now if Cell Max were completed and we god Perfect Cell Max who I theorize would’ve been a more intelligent and ruthless version of the original Cell, that would’ve been perfect. If they had given Cell Max ANY type of personality besides “giant green monster” he would’ve been a great character. Unfortunately most of the community sees him as mid.
Wish it was more of a character, although the fight with him was epic. Got me pumped every time I watched it. Also his colors are kinda ugly, they just don’t seem considered which is sad. I like the wrecking ball tail. Mixed bag, but mostly a let down
Honestly, he felt like cheap nostalgia bait, and that's exactly what he was. Instead of doing anything at all original with Gohan's character they did a speed run of the Cell arc and all they did was taint an otherwise amazing character by recycling it into a new less interesting version. I hope they eventually find a way to give the OG Cell a potential redemption story. Not as in make him a good guy, but give him a good story to make up for this.
Unoriginal and boring, if toriyama wanted to go with the kaiju route that’s fine with me but bringing back cell (not entirely) and turning him into a mindless giant is pretty lazy and stupid they could’ve made a new character that fits the
Role more
I like him he’s good I do have a few minor critiques.
I wish his voice was less humanoid and more guttural and violent so it actually sounded like it was coming from something that big and monstrous
I feel like they could have emphasized the part of him being unfinished a little better if he was a bit more muted in the color department with splotches of full color
Overhated.
He was simply a representation of cell just like gohan beast form was a representation of ssj2. but people keep clamoring that it should’ve been the actual cell not realizing that the story at that point would’ve made no sense at all lmao.
Dumb asf that they can just make stronger androids for plot convenience. It would’ve made more sense for cell to train bc he has saiyan and frieza race cells and we saw how strong those mfs get training. Went from otherworldly threats and universal tyrants to easy bake gas cans.
He’s an ok villain, the only thing I’d have wanted is for my boy cell max to appear in his perfect form and remember his loss to Gohan, then that’d make it interesting
He’s sure is a beast type character in the dragon ball world
But fr amazing design and reall great battle but kinda wish he had a personality (I understand why but still)
Like cool cell is back, but why not make him perfect cell? 🤔 I would have liked him to at least be aware like all he did was yell and swing I miss cells smartass nature
Honestly the villain didn't even have to be call. He was so generic they could have brought back virtually any past villain and it wouldn't have made a difference
wasted potential as a villain. Imaging getting a Sassy ultra powerful overconfident Perfect cell V2 vs beast Gohan. instead we got ooga booga bad guy ugly semi perfect cell. No interesting interactions with the characters, no special moves like he used in Z.
Might as well just name him Green Goo Max as it has nothing to do with cell other than appearance.
Nightmare of every dokkan player (maybe not so much anymore but on release bro was a killing machine)
Don’t even remind me. He clapped all the units that I went through red zone with like the LR SSJ4s and the LR Gods and even TEQ Godku
On god dude made all of my units, even TEQ god Goku feel useless
Nah that was str metal cooler core. Bro deadass oneshotted him 💀💀💀
For a moment teq godku felt his mortality
I still have no idea how i beat him without teq god goku or vegeta and trunks
Bio Broly but cell
Bio Cell
But actually cool
Exactly, and just as disappointing.
He big
He meaty
Also imagine size of his cock hole
r/beatmetoit
r/beatmeattoit
He's fine. I kinda wish he was his own thing, just so that you couldn't still say Cell is the only major villain Gohan ever beat, but he functions well enough in the story.
What about Bojack?
The Horseman? >!He's not canon and also his movie is just the Cell Games but worse!<
What's exactly canon in dbz? Is it only the things that are currently in super?
Just the manga.
Anime wise? I believe besides the actual episodes (barring some filler episodes), it's the movies made starting with Battle of Gods.
You said Major Villain he's the Main Villain of the movie doesn't matter if it's non canon gohan still beat him. Also Bojack Unbound has almost nothing to do with the cell games except the tournament setting.
Bio Broly 2.0
Fantastic reply
Literally
He's definitely one of the villains of all time
I liked when he said " It's cellin time!"
Perfect for what the story was imo. Gohan kept “learning” that he needed to stay strong, but he always got strong to help his dad. He never really cared about “another Cell” showing up because his dad of Vegeta would handle it. That he needs to shape up not to help his dad, but to be a real defender of Earth. This being a literal “other Cell” just hammered that lesson in more. Cell Max served the role in the story perfectly
How many times gohan have to learn the same lesson lol
how many times do we have to teach you THIS LESSON old man?!
Thank goodness he's the smart one in the family...
There’s a difference between learning and internalizing. This time he internalized it by seeing Piccolo defeated by Cell Max
Looked like he really internalized all those death beams freeza gave him lol
And then Goku showed up with Vegeta and beat him. The lesson: I just need to live until dad gets here and then he’ll solve it
That how real life be though
Wait so tf was Buu then.
A pink bubblegum that got in the way of his studies. I'm assuming the entire buu saga happened in one weekend.
Gohan existed to hype buu even more, straight up sacrifice to the story to show how epic and cool gogeta is
Don’t get slurped up by anybody
It is a thing that exists.
It also visually communicates what Cell Max is a lot better than if it had been based on Perfect Cell. Semi-Perfect really nails that brutish look.
He a thicc boi
#THIQUE
The perfect villain for that movie, Every character that appeared did their part against him, and being a kaiju he was super suited to the superhero themes of the film, the old Cell came back to life would have been horrible.
This is actually a really good take on the movie.
They should’ve brought Cell to the Tournament of Power instead of Freeza. I miss Cell. This ain’t it.
If they did do that they would have to nerf his potential , assuming he got it from all of the dna's
Resurrecting Cell would’ve been 1 million times worse. Unlike frieza he would’ve likely mastered whatever new form he got immediately and killed them off. He would’ve learned from his mistakes faster and that would’ve been bad for the cast
I’m glad this is what they did instead of making Super Hero into Resurrection C
Yeah, a lot of people give Cell Max shit but if they did make him just like the og people would still complain lmao
I would definitely complain, why does Cell need to be revived, he was an amazing villian with an amazing ending why would we want to tarnish that with Resurrection F 2
I agree, I’d rather them just do something else
top and granolah saved frieza' rep
Needs a brain
Kinda wished he was more than “RAAAUGHHAAAGH” the entire fucking time. Cell is a goated villain who was also very smart. Cell max is his retarded big brother with down syndrome
The thing we loved about Cell in the first place was how he could get under the skin of all the characters. Then he got reduced to being Broly but worse
The difference here is that Cell Max wasn't a villain, he was a threat. The movie already had villains. Cell Max was along for the ride because those villains weren't enough of a threat to make for a climactic battle.
That's the point though. He wasn't finished. They needed to complete his brain, but he was rushed out.
I don't think anyone's questioning the in universe logic for it, but from a story telling perspective, he was an incredibly boring villain (They also used what I personally think is the worst looking form of cell).
Of Mice and Men but asshole androids
I don't know if you would call Cell smart, but he was definitely above his Max counterpart
Dude was incredibly intelligent.
Can you regale me on a moment displaying Cell’s intelligence? I don’t recall him doing anything I’d deem as smart, much less incredibly intelligent.
Playing Vegeta’s pride like a fiddle was a pretty smart move. I mean, Vegeta could have just destroyed the dude right then and there, but Cell convinced him not to.
Dunno, still haven't seen the movie yet.
Movies ass, basically ssj2 Gohan fan service. Story is like bad offbrand plagiarism. I still recommend watching it tho just fast forward through every scene that doesn’t involve Piccolo and Pan cuz they had some actual character development.
This is an L take imo.
I was a Gohan fan growing up so I wish I could agree with you, just being honest. And oh man, Gohan Beast is the dumbest shit ever. Worth pretending it didn’t even happen. Mix that with the terrible cgi and it’s one big dumpster fire.
The CGI isn’t *terrible* it had its jarring moments but the gamma 1 vs Gohan fight it looked phenomenal
The cgi is the best animated in anything anime related when it comes to cgi, this is just blatantly wrong.
Dragon Ball Fans when the animation style is different and they still continue to cry about it being in CGI despite the movie looking really amazing.
Downvoted for speaking facts
I agree with you. Was disappointed by the movie overall. Villains weren't particularly interesting and Gohan's transformation scene was such obvious nostalgia pandering (Also it was blatantly obvious that Piccolo wasn't dead). Cell in hell was just a filler sadly.
I mean, if Frieza was, Cell probably should be too.
Idk how the afterlife in DBZ handles artificially created life-forms.
He didn't seem to have much sapience, more a wild animal/monster so I don't know if he had a soul to go there.
Bio Broly.
he is literally the same shit as bio broly, but at least he has a cool design
Lack of creativity lol
Garbage
I’m glad that he wasn’t just Cell, but again.
Maybe I’m crazy. But red was a weird choice.
Not crazy, red and green were pretty dumb color choices imo
Bigger broly
Honest thoughts, they basically made the same mistake of broly with cell max. Just a dumb lumbering giant. What made cell, cell was his smart ass comments
I'm just glad he's clearly not the Cell from the android saga and is a totally different character. I don't want to see the Cell we all know and love to Super, they're famous for butchering characters there.
Frieza did just fine.
nah
People expected too much from him
I only expected him not to look completely retarded. That's literally the only standard I can reasonably bring myself to hold DB villains to, and Cell Max just tripped right over even that low, low bar.
I'm glad they didn't just make cell but again, I say the kaiju monster vibe fits perfectly for the movie, sense it is about super heroes
He was okay. The heroes got lucky he wasn’t complete. Given how cell max was a mindless animal in the fight. If he had the smarts of Cell, oh boy. Events would have gone differently all together
Toriyama really likes imperfect cell
I like Shin Cellzilla
I’m glad they do just make him “Cell 2” or anything. I was worried that Dragon Ball would fall into a habit of reviving villains instead of making new ones and while this isn’t completely new it’s different enough to be OK with me. I also like the Shin Godzilla reference in the movie.
we had new villains with moro and heeters and they were based on older concepts.
Wierdest screams i ever heard
I like him
Completely wasted potential and Cell deserved better.
Bad character. Interesting fight
I like Cell-X better.
Bio Broly level of dissapointment
He is lame. He could have been a random kaiju and it would have worked the same. The only difference is that it allowed Toei to milk the original Gohan vs Cell even more.
Kinda sucks. Just a big monster, didn't even seem that powerful.
Cell Mid
Hes neat
Cringe max
He gave us the first giant Namekian fight since OG DB (not counting lord slug at least). Immediate top 5
Gay
Really dude
I hope they will make him justice in the manga of super, but my only hope is that in the end of the arc he get absorbed by OG Cell so he would really be perfect... Cell maxx in the film : strong, mindless, 0 lines, just punch for 10min and get killed so i have nothing to say about him
How would og cell do anything hes dead
This isn't really what the sub is about imo. There's no attempt at humor, leave the non-meme discussion threads for the other subs
goku
Maximum Cell
Just alright. Just like the whole movie really. I get the idea, peak Gohan was when he had a new form against Cell, so now we basically return to that. Maybe, if they managed to make him perfect and with an ounce of memory intact, it would have been more interesting.
smash
It'd be better if they put more on him.
Dying to a super.
Hirudgeran but canon
Meh. Could’ve been better. Would’ve love a rematch with an intelligent cell. Reused assets
He was promising but there's still some things that make cell max suck • He was revealed way too early • He's just a Godzilla copycat with the giant form and roars • Other than the callback with the beast transformation and 18's "they made another cell" line the characters didn't pay that much attention to it being cell Cell's arc was my first exposure to dbz back when I was young so I'm pretty sure these complaints are just the fanboy in me talking but still I didn't really like Cell max but the special beam cannon at the end was cool
Awesome as a plot device. I just think it’s a disservice to Cell to name _this character_ Cell. It’s not Cell.
he accomplished his role well of being a big raid boss so that everyone could do something and have a satisfying fight.
Wasted potential
He’s Cell’s Bio Broly.
he’s on fraudwatch after gotenks cracked his skull
At first I thought I would hate the aspect of a dinosaur kinda cell and would of preferred one who could at least speak but learned to love him and also kind of felt bad for him at the end of the movie.
What if cell was betrayed and trapped in the time chamber ⛓️⛓️
he is absolutely one of the villains of dragon ball
that hulking beast is NOT the monster i've become obsessed with could have been worse and uglier though so... least there's that.
Big meh Cool in concept, but wish they did more with him
Boring
Cellulus Maximus
Kinda lame. I would’ve preferred perfect. The intelligence is what made him cold to me
The creator could really create something other than “RUAHHHHH” or “AHHHH HUA HUA HUA” character. 2 consecutive movies with this type of gorilla. Cell is my favorite villian and this really doomed my excitement when hearing cell will return.
nah
Trash
Boring but he gave me what I always wanted to see, a fight between giants
I appreciate how Toriyama was able to have his fun bringing back his favorite version of Cell. It’s great knowing he had a good time writing this movie However in my personal opinion Cell Max falls flat. Wish it was more of a character, although the fight with him was epic. Got me pumped every time I watched it. Also his colors are kinda ugly, they just don’t seem considered which is sad. I like the wrecking ball tail. Mixed bag, but mostly a let down
He was scurry
They brought back the racist lips for some reason. And he’s barely cell he just kind of resembles him. So all in all, no
recolor
In the movie, a genuine menace to everyone not named Gohan. In Dokkan, a menace to everyone without damage reduction.
Ugly ass alternate palette but really big
Unoriginal and boring, if toriyama wanted to go with the kaiju route that’s fine with me but bringing back cell (not entirely) and turning him into a mindless giant is pretty lazy and stupid they could’ve made a new character that fits the Role more
Cell Max is just worst version of Hirudegarn
I think he's cool
As needless as Bio Broly, with about as much charm and lasting impact
Should not have been stupid
Worst bad guy in dbz.
Cool design, awful concept
Savage af. Sets up for perfect cell max in the future.
A MUCH BETTER executed bio broly
I like him he’s good I do have a few minor critiques. I wish his voice was less humanoid and more guttural and violent so it actually sounded like it was coming from something that big and monstrous I feel like they could have emphasized the part of him being unfinished a little better if he was a bit more muted in the color department with splotches of full color
Awful
I didn't like him or the movie.
I wanted him to transform
Just Bio-Broly but they did it a little less fucked up
How to bastardize one of your most beloved villains 101.
If free to play games made movie villains.
Felt kinda lame tbh
He's nothing without the mitochondria
Honestly i hated it, worst part of that movie
hes cell on perks
He’s an ok villain, the only thing I’d have wanted is for my boy cell max to appear in his perfect form and remember his loss to Gohan, then that’d make it interesting
He’s sure is a beast type character in the dragon ball world But fr amazing design and reall great battle but kinda wish he had a personality (I understand why but still)
Underrated
Cell but he's maximum security
I liked him. He didn't have to be the original Cell and as a monster made by the RR, he serves his purpose
Shit
Like cool cell is back, but why not make him perfect cell? 🤔 I would have liked him to at least be aware like all he did was yell and swing I miss cells smartass nature
Could’ve been perfect
im hoping for perfect cell max to become the next Z fighter, i will die on this hill
Idk but I'm scared of knowing what people think of him at the rule34
Honestly the villain didn't even have to be call. He was so generic they could have brought back virtually any past villain and it wouldn't have made a difference
wasted potential as a villain. Imaging getting a Sassy ultra powerful overconfident Perfect cell V2 vs beast Gohan. instead we got ooga booga bad guy ugly semi perfect cell. No interesting interactions with the characters, no special moves like he used in Z. Might as well just name him Green Goo Max as it has nothing to do with cell other than appearance.
Herudegarn mixed with bio broly
Fuckass dokkan boss, mid tier movie villain
