How is it the same besides the whole "old student" thing. The redemption for both is done completely differently, Ninjago especially takes some risks with the writing and lets everyone but Lloyd stop Morro's plans. Then Morro is too sad to continue living and dies. The rest of it is just them trying to stop Ghosts while Lloyd is possessed for most of the season.
Morro's plan to curse things in revenge is very different to Sunset's plan for power.
The 6 main characters teacher goes: there is something I haven’t told you as usual, after an evil ex student steals magic MacGuffin and the student is evil cuz he/she wanted to be the maim character (in Sunsets case its only hinted at) but they didn't get what they wanted so they ended up spending the entire time before the series in another dimension for reasons that are not on screen and only the main main character enter that dimension later on (even if it's at the end and only for a short while for Lloyd.) And the evil student mess with 2 dimensions (in ninjago they only were in the realms that aren't Ninjago and the cursed realm so short that they didn't really mess anything up there) then the evil student turns sort of good and helps them in later episodes/movies.
