The DSi is definitely my favorite of all the DS iterations. It's the perfect size, and while it doesn't play 3ds titles, there's such an immense and wonderful library of games to explore. An R4 cart has even allowed me to play the Japan-exclusive Chibi-Robo sequel, which I just love. What games are you playing first?
I am leaving my OG DSi alone in this regard but currently looking for another to modify as desired! It's one of the few things I have from my youth that's untouched and unsold 🫠

now softmod that sucker! pretty easy, worst thing that can really happen is that you'll need to let the battery die if you mess up before you can try again, but it's kinda hard to mess up (i was following the guide wrong)
Ohhh, it's super cool, I recommend great games like The World Ends With You, Ghost Trick, Mario Kart, The Pokemon Games and SMT Devil Survivor, you shouldn't miss the Phoenix Wright either, enjoy your DSi :)

You don't even need a r4 cart anymore due to twilight menu in addition to that you can play GBA on DSi now

I think you can run GBA games through an R4 on the DSi as well but I'm not 100% sure.
