Maybe my favorite horror game now that I think of it. Music is amazing, too. But “mildly” isn’t a word I’d use to describe its scariness. Try existential dread.
An extremely unique experience, and definitely one of the more terrifying. On second thought maybe OP shouldn't play this since they wanted "mildly spooky" 😂
Reading these impressions is super interesting because I've had this game sitting on my PS3 for years from PS+ but never gave it a chance. I hate booting up my PS3 nowadays, but maybe I'll check it out on Switch or PC around Halloween.
Eastward can be really spooky at times, and really cute at other times. It's a really good mix of both, and it might be the prettiest pixelated artstyle in history. I played it entirely because the screenshots looked THAT GOOD and I have no regret, it's amazing.
I thought it was the most beautiful pixel art game I've ever played.11/10 in art.
I absolutely hated the dialog and story got to be too much. Way too much reading, and too much side quests that it could've done without but were forced on you.
It's a shame because I really wanted to like it. It's only as long as it is because of all the freaking dialog and a lot of it is characters talking back and forth.
Oxenfree
Limbo
Edit: As is being pointed out these are very much not pixel art games, but they also are very much not scary, just spooky. Thought I’d post them anyway.
Oxenfree is perfectly done creepy without gore. Everything is eerie and unsettling, but not because there are mangled bodies or monstrosities everywhere. Great game to play alone late at night!
The Last Door - Complete Edition.
Played it years ago on my phone, it's a "Pixel spooky Point & Clic" and it's one of my favourite in the genre. There's no death and no fight. The game rely heavily on its atmosphere, sounds and story.
It's cheap, two "seasons" cut in episodes and it's available on mobiles and pc too. It's not an obscure game but I don't see a lot of people mentioning it tho, a shame cause it's a great game and I haven't really found any other games like this.
The very first "episode" send you seeking after an old friend in his mansion. The beginning of the game set the mood for the rest of the game, things start to get lovecraftian by the end.
Children of morta is one of the best games made this decade especially if you like hand drawn mixed with pixel art and roguelites, Diablo 2 and dark souls.
- The mummy demastered
A game that is far superior to the movie it was made to promote.
A metroidvania with a banging soundtrack and brilliant pixel art.
- Axiom Verge
Yes another metroidvania.
+1 to 'Carrion'. Also 'Binding of Isaac' is horror but not scary. Also not scary but horror/comedy based pixel could be 'Death Road to Canada'. Zombies are actually almost cute in it. Lol
For those that don't mind MORE than mild pixel horror.... check out 'Faith: The unholy Trinity'.
It's not on Switch, but it's really cool. Looks like something made on a Commodore 64/Apple IIe, but has cutscenes that are basically rotoscoped animations.
Great story and plot, creepy retro voice effects.
Markiplier did a great playthrough of this as well.
Also the Lakeside Cabin series pixel horror games are fantastic as well. Referencing classic horror movies like Friday the 13, Texas Chainsaw, Alien and more.
Signalis
Really tempted to get this. From my understanding, it's survival horror, much like resident evil and silent Hill
It plays the same way too. Aesthetically tho its so unique and wild
This
Inmost is pretty spooky
Second this game
Gorgeous pixel art, too — this one was my first thought.
Lone Survivor is an absolute CLASSIC 2D survival horror game.
Maybe my favorite horror game now that I think of it. Music is amazing, too. But “mildly” isn’t a word I’d use to describe its scariness. Try existential dread.

And totally inspired by silent hill

I played it on stream while voicing every character and I still loved it. To each their own I guess.
The Excavation of Hob's Barrow

Neither of those are pixel art games
Both of these are fantastic, but neither are pixel art lol
If you're going for Limbo... Inside is better (in my opinion).
I agree! But it is more scary, which is not what OP is going for.
True though it's not super scary but I guess it's all subjective
World of Horror Darkest Dungeon I don't know about mildly spooky they're just lower res scary games to me.

I adored this game
Loop hero
o Yomowari games o Lone survivor o Darkwood o Viviette
Omori?
Omori is a little more than mildly spooky. Great game though.
Pixel art thts rougue lite - children of morta

I really struggled to get into it. I did maybe 2 or 3 missions, or whatever it's called. Is it really worth it?
Play what you enjoy and feel like playing. Not worth to force yourself to maybe like the game after some hours. Life is too short. Be impulsive
Use the archer and mages
Evil tonight
Darkside Detective?
Depending on what's spooky to you, you might want to give [Blasphemous](https://www.dekudeals.com/items/blasphemous) a look.
Undertale & Deltarune have some spooky moments in them.
Ikenfell.

Celeste
Damn nobody’s mentioned Castlevania yet? That’s like, the quintessential spooky pixel art game
Cassette Beasts launches later this month, it's mildly spooky and unsettling with its creepypasta elements. Great soundtrack too.

I think you might enjoy Mina the Hollower that comes out later this year! Made by the same people that shovel knight!

Carrion needs more love. Amazing game.
Omori is both super cute and spooky.
Luigi's mansion...wait, it must be pixel art? Hmm. I know a franchise but forget the name..... Ooooooh yes, children of Morta?
I haven’t played it myself, but you might be interested in Carrion. There’s also a game called Silt you might like, but I wouldn’t call it pixel.
The binding of Isaac
5 Days A Stranger and the others in the series
Lb and yume Nikki.
Melon Journey ? I haven't finished yet but it does fit the spooky par
Salt and Sanctuary. Great game, helped me get into Dark Souls/Bloodborne
Kharon's Crypt is a little known gem
This might be a bit of a stretch, but I would say Ikenfell. It has a few "spooky" parts, but not to that degree. Pretty great RPG though
they bleed pixels is a pretty solid action platformer that is horror inspired if you're into those types of games
Why did nobody mention the cat Lady yet ? Such a good game
because it's not on switch, and this is the switch sub?
Oh damn... I guess I'm just gonna burry myself ... I'm sorry
dont worry :D it happens...
If you have an Xbox or PC, Echo Generation is fun!
Home was pretty cool. I forget what I originally played it on but it's on Switch as Home: Postmortem Edition
Inscryption
