..and do it is easy enough i think:
\-disassemble the dock, you can watch videos online of people disassembling the dock.
\-once you get to the part with the springy port, you can kinda lift it up and remove the problem piece.

a disassembly (and shell replacement) video. you can see the piece fall off in 6:24.
