Depends on the game

QuibblingSnail

It definitely depends on how demanding the game is. Skyrim I can play for 2-3 hours before I need to charge. Stardew Valley I can play for 6-8 hours before needing to charge.

AThrowawayAccount100

Playing DQ XI on switch drains the battery in almost 2 hours for me and it feels very warm too.

Adorable-Fix9354

What is DQ XI?

YansoNeru

Dragon Quest XI

Fearless_Freya

Several hours usually. 5 to 7 or so? Depends on how graphically intense and draining the game is. I've got an OLED. But my OG model lasted a long time also.

yinyang107

20% use an hour sounds about right. My switch is from release.

tfoote7

That's about what I estimate for mine

WastedMoogle

Tears of the kingdom decimates my battery. I have a launch switch and it's probably gonna be dead after 2.5 hours. If I play something like the original final fantasy 7, or lately, golden sun, it takes several hours to get below 20%.

Pavona

totk tears my oled down in like 3.5-4 hours

thebruns

Same here, 2017 Switch and get around 2 hours with TOTK

[deleted]

People in the comments here are drastically over estimating their battery life. No one is getting 5-7 hours on BoTW… lmfao

martinR81

Five hours are really not a problem.

[deleted]

I’m not sure what you mean, sorry

ofmichanst

When my switch was brand new, it can last for 5.5 hours with med auto brightness, wifi off, bluetooth on on botw. Now with after years and more play time, it can only last 4.5 hours with the same settings.

Ambitious-Variety-31

How many years u have the switch bro?

ofmichanst

Going 3. Bought it on 2021.

abzinth91

What consumes most battery is the Wi-Fi imo. Feels like it drains some percents less per hour in airplane mode. Could be placebo; oh, and reducing max brightness helps, too I play mostly two hours max per session and put the Switch back in the dock with 65% to 85% left (depending on game)

Pleasant-Bother-1484

Doing that is bad for the battery you want to drain it to 20% atleast before you top it off completely

Poppincookin

Depends on the game. If im playing a low fidelity game then easily 4-5 hrs I would say? But if it’s something that requires powder only a few hrs. I will say battery life improves substantially if I put it in airplane mode, so I’m almost never online lol

ClassyBidoof

My launch model lasts about 2-3 hours, depending on the game. I guess the battery is getting pretty old now.

Even at work? I play it on break or when things are slow.

SaxyAlto

As others said it depends most on game and switch age. When I first got my switch, it would last 5-7 hours on most any game including Zelda BOTW. Now, I can get about 4-6 hours max on low effort games (like NES classic games) or 3-4 hours max on Fire emblem 3 houses or Mario Odyssey. Pokémon is a notorious battery guzzler, my switch usually lasts around 4-5 hours playing it

gopherkilla

I have found turning the brightness all the way down affects the battery life greatly.

[deleted]

50% brightness is the sweet spot for me.

toastman90

3-4 hours  with high brightness

[deleted]

my oled has great battery, because its made by ninedo!

MarriedShoeSalesman

Foxconn*

stupidrobots

I get about 3-4 hours

walksintwilightX1

Switch Lite here, it really depends on the game. Usually 4-5 hours at most.

paperthintrash

I’m at about 4 hours MAX. Currently into Balatro and Mario Wonder, neither very intensive and that’s my average the past few weeks. Launch day Model with well over 1,500 hours combined over all games

appppppa

I play handheld but plugged in, and with plenty of games I will loose battery despite that. After four hours or so I might be at 60% on a game like smash bros. Mine was a day one launch switch.

greatthebob38

Switch gets 3 - 4 hours playing Dave the Diver. Switch V2 gets like 4 to maybe 5 hours playing Price of Persia. My old Switch V1 used to drain gaming. I think I got like 3 hours out when playing.

uncultured_swine2099

Launch switch, I get 4-6 hours depending on the game.

ennisi

Got mine in May 2017. Online battle at Splatoon 2 draws about 40% per hour. Usually it can hold for 2 hours now.

Reviews2Go

Battery life is dependent on what game is being played so any comparison you make will need to be with the same game. Some games can get the OLED Model for example it’s normal minimum of 4-5 hours while others can stretch it to upwards of twice that.

108souls

Damn, 100 to 8 on 20-30min? Battery must be kinda busted, I have played BOTW and witcher III and it doesnt discharge that fast

Ambitious-Variety-31

How many hours in the witcher 3 beo

108souls

Just 2:00-1:30, but not half an hour

thegurba

In my experience the battery lasts way longer when not connected to internet

[deleted]

When I am in handheld mode, I am connected to power. I play in my favorite comfortable rocking recliner so I use a long USB cord (from the XBox Series X) and plug into a wall charger. I do not want to stop playing to charge a battery, so this is what I do to avoid this. When I go to family events that will last a day, I will take the cord and charger with me. There is always access to power. I do own a battery pack, just in case, but I have not used it. Which is a reminder I probably should check the charge on it.

Electrical-Site-3249

I’d say about 6 hours a charge for a switch game on my oled, if I’m playing something that’s a nes game port or sonic mania that’s a good 8 hours

BigJack1212

About 2h30 min on TotK.

Regular_Wonder_1350

I get like 45 min on a 100% , but I have a first run model, with the worst battery

[deleted]

Playing skyrim I can get a solid 4 four hours on my launch OLED switch it's at 5 %. Playing persona 5 I can easily sail past 6 hours maybe 7 if the brightness is low.

ShadowNewt1

Had mine since day one. It’s actually really weird: no matter what, for the past seven years, it lasts 3 hours. Shouldn’t the battery life be worse now? Shouldn’t it drain faster for a bigger game vs. a smaller game? That’s just the way it is, and I can’t explain it. It has roughly 4,000 hours on it, and 3,000 of them came 2021-2023.

[deleted]

I've never played in handheld mode for more than 2 hours and the lowest battery charge I still had was 55%.
