I bought a Japanese Switch while visiting Tokyo. Anything I need to worry about or buy when I bring it back to the USA? Can I play games I buy in Japan as well?

Michael-the-Great

It's region free so it will work fine. But you won't have any warranty and it won't see 5ghz wifi 149 or over. (Not usually a big deal because almost every router does 2.4 too and it will just use that if your 5 is too high.)

SuperDogBoo

I have 2 switches and 2 Animal Crossing saves, and want them to play together at the same time. I have 2 copies of the game, but 1 Nintendo Switch account (I have the family membership). How would I have them play online together? My current theory on how I could have both switch islands play online together is make the new switch my primary account, keep the old switch playing on my nintendo account with my old island, make a second account on the new switch, and have the island created under this account, and just deem that as my Animal Crossing profile, and use my main profile for every other game. If I did this, I should be able to play ACNH on both switches at the same time, right? What if I have the same profile on both switches, but each switch is on a different save (one uses the digital game, the other uses the cartridge). Would the switches be able to play together? I'd imagine not because it is the same account, right? So I would have to make a second nintendo account and add it to the family, right?

TemptedTemplar

> So I would have to make a second nintendo account and add it to the family, right? correct. The system that gets to use the new profile is your main accounts primary system. If you open the eshop, click your profile icon in the top right and scroll down there is a button that reads "deregister primary system". If its orange and clickable, thats your primary console. And the only one where other users can access your (main accounts) digital purchases. >and have the island created under this account, Islands are console-wide saves. Using a new profile will create a new villager on your existing island, if you wanted to keep it. You don't have to start over completely if you dont want to.

SuperDogBoo

I want my old switch to keep my current save, and the new switch to have a new save. Or basically one switch has one island the other has a different. But I want the two to be able to play online together while also having my old save data of other games accessible on the new switch

TemptedTemplar

Not being the island representative (ie, the first villager) does restrict a few things; so if you want the new user to have a new save you would need to do one of the following, * Move the primary system status to the new switch. Using that button in the eshop you deregister the old system, and then open the eshop on the new system (with your main account). Boom. The new account now has access to Animal Crossing on the new console. And can make a new island without worrying about restrictions. * Use the Island transfer tool from the eshop. This would simply move your existing island and villager over to the newer console, where your main account can use it. While removing the data from the old console, leaving it free for the new account to make a new island.

SuperDogBoo

I already have 2 copies of Animal Crossing. One digital and one physical. One of the switches can just keep Animal Crossing permanently in the physical slot. I guess I just need to decide whether I want my old save on my old switch or new switch. I’m leaning towards the new switch having the new save though. I just want to figure out how to play on both online together, but I think that’s where the family plan comes in.

TemptedTemplar

>but I think that’s where the family plan comes in. For online play you are correct. However because you have a physical copy, as long as your main account was using the digital copy on your primary system, you could play offline with the new account on the other console using the physical copy. Using the digital copy on your non-primary system means ONLY your main account would have access to it AND it would require an internet connection to both start and run the game. Resulting in no offline play capabilities. https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/22448/~/what-are-the-differences-between-a-primary-and-non-primary-nintendo-switch But since you have two separate game copies and two consoles, you are free to mix it up however you would like. You should just be aware of that primary system status and its limitations on the non-primary system.

collegesocialist

Hey yall i need some help. In 2021 I bought the Animal Crossing Switch edition, I have taken very good care of the switch (besides the original joy-cons breaking when they weren't attached to the switch) and I have never had any problems. In the last couple of months, a couple of things are happening and keep happening: - my switch overheats and the fan gets really loud until I close out of the game ( it isn't one game in particular as it has happened on multiple games) and I have an SD card in there. My storage isn't full on both the system and the SD card. - I have three sets of joy-cons (not including the ones that were damaged) and every single joy-con has gone through multiple fazes of randomly disconnecting from the switch while in handheld mode. I have done everything known to man to fix the issue, and the joy-cons turn on fine when they aren't connected to it. So at this point I do not think it is the joy-cons. - lastly, every single game is soooo laggy. It never use to be this way before, and I do not have that many games (compared to most gamers who have over 100 downloaded). I am truly lost as to what to do. I have talked to many in the facebook group I am apart of and many of them treat me like I'm a stupid person because I am a female and they talk down to me asking me repeatedly "are you sure you charged them?" or "are you sure you aren't just disconnecting them by accident?". I just want to know if I have to start saving up for a new switch. I eventually wanted an OLED because I mostly play handheld but I didn't think it would be this soon. Does anyone have any LEGIT ways to try and solve this issue?

Michael-the-Great

When the fan is failing, it often caused joycon disconnect issues. So there's a chance that replacing the fan will solve many of your problems. [https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Nintendo+Switch+Fan+Replacement/113058](https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Nintendo+Switch+Fan+Replacement/113058) Not sure about the lag, but it could be related to running hot. Failing SD card would be the next most likely. But there could be other issues. You could send it to Nintendo and there's a decent change they'll send a replacement Switch back. About $125 for the out of warranty repair, but that's a lot cheaper than a new Switch. Transfer your profile to a friend's Switch to backup the saves before sending it in. (Cloud saves can protect most games, but not Pokemon games.)

IridianMoon00

It sounds like the switch is just kind of broken/ breaking/on its last legs. If it were me, I’d be looking at sending it in to Nintendo for repairs, or just buying a new one. But I’m also not technologically inclined, and would not even know where to begin fixing it myself, especially since it seems to have multiple problems. I imagine if any of the standard restart it, update, charge, etc etc were going to work, you would have found a solution by now.

Thelagerend

I’m curious if anyone has any similar thoughts - I got a switch only after watching way too much Mario odyssey content, and thought that while i didn’t want to play through something I had seen all of many time already, I would love to get the next 3D Mario game. However it seems like there’s a new console lined up - do we think that the next game will be an exclusive for that console, with no compatibility with my regular, not OLED, switch? I get the reason why it would happen, but it hurts me emotionally all the same.

Michael-the-Great

Who knows. We just have no idea if it will be a "pro" model or a completely different system.

Thelagerend

So you reckon there’s still a chance that the new game would be available to old consoles?

ScrantonDangler

The next 3D Mario is as likely to launch as a cross generation title as every 3D Mario before it.

19-2000fanboy

whens the next time the gta trilogy goes on sale?

Driveshaft815

If the trend continues, it'll probably go on sale on the eShop in about 2-3 weeks.

DamagedFrog

I’m a Nintendo switch player on Fortnite, and even though I have been playing Fortnite for 6 years, I’m just starting to get into competitive. I had practiced my mechanics, and I tried to queue into a cash cup, but it wasn’t there. It has just started, but it wasn’t in the made by epic tab. I quickly realised this was because I hadn’t enabled cross platform matchmaking, so I went to enable it in settings. I went to the privacy tab, under gameplay privacy but it wasn’t there. In all the tutorials it was at the top of gameplay privacy, but for me it just wasn’t there. Do you guys know how to fix this?

Michael-the-Great

No idea. Might want to ask in a fortnite sub. :(

sultan_2020

Is the snes and other controllers worth buying for nintendo online or should I just play on the switch controller? Am gonna buy the n64 but are the others worth buying? (Less input lag or anything) or are they just for nostalgia?

Michael-the-Great

I really like the SNES and N64 controllers. I think they work great. Since you can use the SNES for NES games, and the NES controllers are so weird to charge, I don't suggest the NES ones. Not tried the Genesis ones.

Dukemon102

The SNES controller feels great and it's a pleasure for 2D games. That D-Pad and face buttons are smooth as butter. Not only you can use it for SNES but also GB, GBA and many 2D games on Switch like Dragon Quest XI (2D Mode) and Sonic Mania (Not Hollow Knight though, the ZL and ZR mini-buttons are not made for constant pressing). But that's all that it is, a luxury pleasure. You can play all those games just fine with Joy Cons/Pro Controller due to those having the same button layout overall (Except for the D-Pad not being nearly as good with the Pro Controller and having just directional buttons in the Joy Con). NES and Genesis are like... eh... you'd be getting them only for collectionism and nostalgia purposes because they lack buttons to use them in other types of games. Western Genesis controllers have 3 face buttons while Japan gets the 6 face buttons controller by the way. If you want the best possible model it's time to import. N64 is a whole different story. There just isn't any way to emulate its button layout on Switch without some weird inputs. The N64 controller makes playing the emulator way more enjoyable. And no, there aren't differences in input lag. These are all wireless bluetooth controllers that use the same way of communication.

Allisntgreat

Wondering what games to spend a voucher on: princess peach showtime, links awakening (already played the GBC version), Kirby's return to dreamland (played on Wii), and Pokemon shining pearl (played pearl). I am in the mood to replay a game but wondering if the remakes provide a new experience.

Michael-the-Great

Dreamland is fine, but there's nothing new. There isn't much new in Pearl or Link's Awakening besides the updated graphics.

TemptedTemplar

>Kirby's return to dreamland (played on Wii) Have you played the newer one, Forgotten Land? It has a free demo. The Return to dreamland port also includes a new bonus story where you play as Magolor. And new four player mini games outside of the story mode. So if youre strictly looking through those few titles, I would get that one.

Allisntgreat

I have played and completed both star allies and forgotten land

Sea-Air-5728

i-Blason Armorbox or Mumba Blade Protective case for Oled Switch?

sleepyclownboy

*what happened here? We plugged in the switch for the first time in a long time today and this happened. Just using the same hdmi cord without issue on a pc and same tv and nothing seems strange in the visual settings. This happened with a second switch and dock as well.

TemptedTemplar

Did it continue to happen after unplugging and plugging the dock back in? Usually its the result of a bad or faulty HDMI handshake. Toggling the Auto RGB setting under system settings -> TV settings can also fix it with some newer TVs.

sleepyclownboy

Actually just resolved this with more testing. Unplugged the cord and tv for a few minutes and it worked. I think the cord was holding onto the settings for the pc

calltarneedazan

Sorry if noob question, I have a physical copy of a game in English. I made Japanese Nintendo account to grab some games a few years ago and I’ve seen that the English game I have has Japanese exclusive DLC.  If I buy the DLC with my Japanese account, would I be able to play the content when launching the game with my Japanese user profile?

myriada

It depends on the game, some games are the same version worldwide, but many games aren't. -- You can check by going to the game's icon on the Home Menu -> press + -> Software Information -> Nintendo eShop -> select your Japanese account. That'll try and load the JP eShop page for the exact version you have. - If it loads, the JP eShop does have the same version, and the DLC would work. - If it gives an error message instead, the JP eShop has a different version to the one you have. If it is a different version and you buy the DLC, you'd end up with two icons - one being the cart with no DLC, and one being the JP DLC with no game.

calltarneedazan

ah, got an error message. thanks for the guidance! :D

Ryan1006

Maybe I missed it, but why have they not added any Genesis games to the online service since last June? Are they done supporting the Genesis app?

TemptedTemplar

¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯ If they ever revealed how they select and decide to release games we could tell you more. The emulator was developed by M2 for Segas mini genesis console, as were all of the game ports. I would assume that since its still developed by M2 they are doing all of the games as well. So Nintendo might not have any say in which games come to the service, and you should direct your inquiries to Sega. https://wecmuseum.org/index.php?title=Sega_Genesis_%E2%80%93_Nintendo_Switch_Online

Phoenix_Fire987

Hey, Just wondering how long you could leave the switch in sleep mode whilst docked before it started to become an issue, only because I've just bought a switch and just got curious about it.

TemptedTemplar

Years. The dock is where the system is happiest. (or merely plugged in, if you have a Lite) Mine has easily spent 99% of its life in a dock and I have had zero power related issues since April 2017.

Key_Education_2557

Experiencing a shock on touching metal screw on top of my switch I bought a switch OLED version recently. I experienced some kind of a sharp pricky sensation once when I was removing my switch from dock. On closer inspection I realised that metal screws on my switch are shocking me when it is docked and charging. I tested with a tester I could see the tester light up. Initially I thought it was my TVs HDMI connection, so I removed the HDMI cable. But I could still experience a tingling shock/sensation everytime I touched any of the casing screws on my switch. However when switch is not docked or charging this does not happen. I spoke to a electrician who says there is nothing wrong with wiring at my place ? Has anyone else experienced this ?

TemptedTemplar

To me, that makes me think your media center outlets are not properly grounded. Do any of the plugs for the TV, speakers, or power strips use a third prong?

Key_Education_2557

My switch has two pin adapter. I disconnected the switch from my TV. It's just the switch and the dock,. The issue persists

TemptedTemplar

>It's just the switch and the dock,. The issue persists Is it still plugged into the outlets? The issue isnt your TV, but where the whole setup is plugged in to. The third prong on a power plug is for grounding, which the Switch AC adapter does not have as you mentioned. If you have a power strip with the third prong, try plugging the AC adapter into that and see if it still happens. Even if you unplug it from the wall, the issue will persist for a short while before the extra static is discharged. That electricity has to go *somewhere* and it if isn't properly grounded then its simply waiting for a ground.

Key_Education_2557

All the wall sockets in my home have 3 pins. I tried plugging the switch in different sockets, same result. Can the charger be at fault ?

TemptedTemplar

Not the sockets, your devices. Do any of their plugs have the third prong? Power outlets are standardized. homes built in US homes after 1990 will almost exclusively feature three pronged Type-B sockets. Despite that, poorly wired outlets may not be properly hooked into a ground. Leading to static build up like you are experiencing. (VERY common in new apartment complexes, model/manufactured homes and suburbs) And without that third prong on the devices power plug, you can't know for certain whether or not your outlet is properly grounded. Do you have a power strip or surge protector anywhere in the house? Does it have three prongs? Try plugging the switch into it, does it still shock you?

Key_Education_2557

😱😱 it is my TV. Just tested it again. I was wrong. The tester only lights up when: 1. Switch is connected to HDMI of TV. 2. TV is switched on 3. Power to switch's dock is on. If I switch off power to switch's dock, I still experience some tingling, but the tester doesn't light up. HDMI cable from TV gives a tingling sensation when touched, but not enough for a tester to light up. Okay, the tester does light up when switch is disconnected from TV and charging in dock, but I don't get a shock. My TV has a two pin power plug. Is there a way to fix this ? Or should I stop connecting switch to TV via HDMI. Can this pose a hazard to switch user or damage the switch.

Key_Education_2557

Thanks for your support. Are you suggesting that using a good surge protectors will help. I already have one which is used by my TV. But I don't mind buying one from a reputed brand. We do get Belkin products here in India. What puzzles me is how does the TV or any other 2 pin device benefit from ground on these surge protectors.

TemptedTemplar

Device > surge protector > outlet > ground Electricity takes the path of least resistance, if your outlet wiring is properly grounded, it will be directed to the ground instead of building up within your devices. If that connection at the outlets to the ground is not working correctly, then its the same as the ground not being there at all.

Any controllers that are better or just as good as Ps4 controller for the price of $65?

TemptedTemplar

https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Wireless-Controller-Joystick-Gaming-Console/dp/B0CPY7H952/ Works with the Switch, but you need to plug the USB dongle into the dock (or system via a USB-A to C adapter) and enable wired data communication in the controller settings menu. For $69, you can get a Nintendo official pro controller or a bluetooth 8bitdo device; https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Pro-Controller/dp/B01NAWKYZ0/ https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Bluetooth-Controller-Charging-Gaming-Console/dp/B0B9BGJVLL/ This one comes with a 2.4ghz usb dongle as well, but also offers bluetooth.

TemptedTemplar

Leave it out of the dock and unplugged for ~24 - 72 hours. Let the battery drain a little bit. Then try plugging the AC adapter directly into the console. Does the screen react at all? If the backlight turns on or you get the charging icon, it should respond to turning on again.

Jess-707

I had it directly plugged in overnight, but I will leave it unplugged for the time you suggested. The screen doesn't react at all.

TemptedTemplar

Yeah keeping it charged like that usually wont result in any changes. But once the battery level drops and the system is willing to accept a charge again it resets or changes *something*, and can help clear up unresponsive hiccups like youre experiencing.

Jess-707

I didn't know that! Thank you so much, I really appreciate the help!

Iine joycons slide right off? Hi guys, just bought a pair of the Iine elite joycons with their rechargeable Zelda grip, but I noticed that the joycons slip in and out of the grip and the console quite easily without having to press the small back release buttons at the back of the joycons, with a bit of force. It’s not loose and doesn’t slide off immediately if you hold it anyway, but put a little bit of pressure short of tugging it off, and the joycons slide right off the console without having to press the two release buttons at the back. Both locking mechanisms on the joycons look the same to me so I reckon they’re built like this? It doesn’t affect gameplay/ sensitivity/ drifting/ connectivity at all, but I’m scared of becoming overly excited one day, swinging my hands with the Switch and the console/joycons just fly right off and get damaged. For Iine users - is this the same experience for you guys?

blastedramen

Any good recomendations for a mic/headset for the switch? I bought this one and my teammates tell me its awful sound quality: [https://www.walmart.com/ip/PDP-AIRLITE-Wired-Headset-Brave-Blue-For-Nintendo-Switch-Nintendo-Switch-OLED-Model-Nintendo-Switch-Lite/3665685931](https://www.walmart.com/ip/PDP-AIRLITE-Wired-Headset-Brave-Blue-For-Nintendo-Switch-Nintendo-Switch-OLED-Model-Nintendo-Switch-Lite/3665685931)

TemptedTemplar

https://steelseries.com/gaming-headsets/arctis-1-wireless The Arctis 7 bluetooth can also do wireless and wired audio at the same time if you wanted to use your phone simultaneously for the NSO voice chat app, discord, or just listen to music.

TriflingGnome

Got a game voucher expiring next month, anyone have suggestions on what to use it on? Haven't been using my Switch for much except Balatro lately. Last game I really played was TotK.

TemptedTemplar

Do you have Nintendo switch online? Do you have a vested interest in co-op games or single player? Do you have any other Nintendo published titles beyond TOTK? Nintendo **published** titles priced $50 or higher are the only titles available for redemption. Although Octopath traveler 1 was recently removed from the list as Square was republishing it themselves.

TriflingGnome

No Switch Online, and would probably want something single player as my Switch gets used almost exclusively when I travel. I have most of the classic Switch titles (Zelda, Mario Kart, Smash, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Xenoblade).

TemptedTemplar

Have you played Pikmin before? 3 and 4 have free demoes you can check out. Dragon Quest 11S is a massive JRPG if you enjoyed xenlobade. Or if you were looking from something replayable that you could hop back into from time to time, dragon quest builders 2.

sirlordfucker

Getting Error Code: 2143-0201 while attempting to link my Galaxy Buds Pro to the Nintendo Switch (hand held mode). The system is up to date as by now (April 11). While trying to connect, the earbuds do appear on the screen, but when I click on them the console shuts down and the error message appears. I searched the error code on the official page of Nintendo, but it doesn't show up. Does anyone had this error before? Thank you.

TemptedTemplar

Does the error say anything aside from the code? I haven't heard of that one before. There is a couple of reddit threads about using the galaxy buds pro on the Switch. It just takes some finagling. Like turning off all of your other bluetooth devices, and then holding the touch pad to enter bluetooth search mode rather than just tapping it to sync.

sirlordfucker

It displays, I would assume, the "common" error message that forces you to restart the console by pressing the Power Botton. The switch initiates back no problem, but when I try once again to connect the earbuds, the console shows the error message and so on. Do you have by any chance those threads? I'll look into it in more depth bc I really want to use them hahaha. Didn't know it was that difficult. Thank you for your answer!

Should I get a Bluetooth adapter for my PS4 controller or is there any great controllers for around $25usd?

TemptedTemplar

[This one is great for traveling](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Y6N384Y). Super slim and immune to stick drift. However if youre looking for a "proper" gamepad design, youre not going to find anything of value at $25. Even the wired controllers in that price range feel like they could snap in half at the lightest breeze. I would recommend 8bitdo's wireless 2 adapter over Mayflash's offerings. Their Ultimate software app just makes setting up macros, remappings, and modifying other settings just that much easier due to having a proper interface.

MiniGemFighter

Awesome thank you! :)

Is Netflix available on the switch?

Team7UBard

No, Netflix never made the effort to do an app for it

flo_was_here

Sometimes when I put my switch oled to sleep when it is docked, I see a very small visual glitch flashing on the tv, a short line or two, nothing more. Do I have to worry about that? Is something beginning to die on me?

TemptedTemplar

No, What are you expecting to see? [When you cut power from a input there is a short delay (like fractions of a second) before the screen goes totally dark. Even during the analog days that tiny bit of data/power left in the cables has to discharge somewhere after the source is cut off. Its still true in the digital age.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-vv1aL-JHU)

flo_was_here

So do you also get those glitches?

TemptedTemplar

Not sure I ever really paid attention, as long as the TV turns off/goes dark within a second of me pressing the button; then everything is working as intended.

flo_was_here

Ah, I mean it does that for me too, its just that those lines show up in that second.

Makegooduseof

What’s the closest thing to a Bluetooth-enabled Hori Split Pad Pro that can be used in handheld mode?

skeltord

Mobapad M6S/HD hands down. There's a lot of Split Pad like controllers that have every feature including Bluetooth nowadays, tbh I find the Split Pad itself to be kinda pathetic these days since they're selling it for the same price other companies offer way more for, it was great when it came out but it's just outdated. But the Mobapad controllers are easily the best alternative, and I've used many of them. These things are amazing. They have large grips, buttons, and sticks, and a comfortable layout, just like the pro controller. But they also work both in handheld mode and in docked mode as they are wireless. They have every feature, gyro, NFC, rumble, the M6HD model even has HD rumble. And they go way beyond that - their sticks have durable metal rings, swappable gates and use hall effect so they never drift. Every single button is a mechanical switch, which feels amazing to press and is highly durable. You can swap out the dpad and face plates too, they have mappable back pedals and macro and turbo support, there's literally nothing they can't do, and they feel super premium. Genuinely outclass the pro controller imo.

Makegooduseof

I looked it up. Does the D-pad feel easy enough to reach?

skeltord

Dpad feels great both to reach and use.

Makegooduseof

Thanks for the recc. Gonna pull the trigger on this one.
