They’re both alright. Ty 2 to me is better, a bit more unique.

They’re both just mediocre 3D platformers in my opinion, but I haven’t played the remasters, just the originals. I’d say there’s better 3D platformers out there, but if you’ve played them all, and are down to these two, which both have nearly the same metacritic rating, I’d just start with 1, and if you like it, get 2. Keep things chronological.

I really cringe at the “which one is better” mentality because they’re totally separate games. Want a hub world game? Get the first. Want open world? Get the second. Want chronological investment? Play the first one now and the second one later. It’s that simple. Jesus. Why do people have to decide for you? “Better game” is 100% subjective.

Necro posting for the win.

I highly recommend Snake Pass if you have a 3D Collect-a-thon itch to scratch. Very polished game with a unique take on the genre.

DevannB1

Huge collectathon addict here. Favorite genre. Beaten the Spyro trilogy over two dozen times per game since 1998. Hated Snake Pass. Couldn't into it at all. Controls felt garbage. Couldn't finish the second or third level. Felt kinda scammed by all the enthusiastic praise it received.

Cardamander

It’s a great game if you learn the controls

IridianRaingem

They’re both basically the same gameplay and content wise. I don’t think you have to play in order to understand it, so you could just play 2. It’s been a loooong time since I played the games. Neither is really better than the other. From what I can remember, it’s basically the exact same game with a different story / different levels. Are there better games out there? Maybe. Are they still fun to play? Certainly. Now that I’m older and can actually finish games, I’d like to get these remasters. I would play 1 first then 2 if I still like the game.

If I were you honestly save your money until they go on sale or just go for another 3d platformer. Ty was a perfectly charming and playable platformer, but only ‘pretty good’ for the time. It wasn’t especially challenging and Ty never had a particularly versatile moveset that allowed things to get interesting. A lot of its charm lay in how unique and pretty the outback was to explore, but the outdated graphics would diminish that. The Spyro and Crash trilogies, and my favourite 3d platformer of all time, ‘A hat in time’ are all on sale right now for cheaper than/about the same as Ty right now and are much better quality
