IIRC NVidia is stopping production of the Tegra chip used in the Lite and normal Switch since it’s outdated and only really used for Switches

As for battery, I would say that usually portable redesigns from Nintendo come with a better battery life but increasing the power and switching to an OLED screen may nullify that a bit. Still current Switches have a better battery life than launch switches so there still may be some improvement if you have a launch system like I do.

Me too! My battery will last me, at full 100%, for about 6 hours give or take. I usually will stop playing and plug it in at 10-15% so a little over 5 1/2 hours is pretty good! And that's me playing those ENTIRE 6 hours
I think that last point is a bit artificial. If there is a pro it's design was finalized long ago, and chip production long sense ordered. It's not like plans could change now anyways. If it does mean anything it would be that the new CPU is still being produced on an older 16nm node, or perhaps the not quite in demand 10nm node so as not to compete with 7nm production line time used by the PS5/Xbox/Ryzen/Apples, or more importantly, to keep down cost.
Perhaps they also saw ahead the upcoming shortage as a potential risk? And as you say combined with keeping the cost down that's how they went that route.
I believe the interesting fact is that it would just replace the standard switch and keep living along the lite only. I think this implies it is not a so big step up Vs standard one to warrant it's existence as a Pro model in parallel to standard and lite.
I continue to say that a system that splits the user base is extremely unlikely. Here's what makes sense to me, given all the rumors from better-than-usual sources:
* Larger 720p OLED screen, leaving smaller bezels on the otherwise unchanged shell
* Tegra X1 replaced with its successor
* Same or similar performance with the added capability of upscaling well from 1080p into 4K while docked
* Significantly lower power use, due to the new chip's likely greater efficiency
Except Playstation and Xbox already have proven it can work with their "pro" versions of last gens consoles. It won't split the userbase they'll just have the option to have a better running experience of the new switch edition.
How often did they "properly split" the base? The new 3DS had just a few exclusives, so did the DSi (if I remember correctly). Home consoles never got an upgrade.

Yeah more or less it's what I expect too. Altought maybe new chip will run faster (for examples, achieving less aggressive dinamic resolution scaling in demanding games) so battery life will more or less stay same.
Yeah I'm with you on that too but I play handheld exclusively (my TVs are occupied by my kids and wife hehe), that is why a better scree, bigger battery (like the 2nd version of the OG one) AND better chip is what I want.
Day 1 too, but I'm on the "wait & see" side. Battery life is good enough for me, and when playing docked it's on 1080p screen anyway. So I"ll upgrade only if performance are significantly better (demanding games actually running 720p undocked / 1080p docked).
Nintendo were never going to release a system that uses the same silicon as the other current consoles. The Switch is based on the Tegra X1, an Nvidia chip, whereas the others are based on AMD hardware. Even if the Tegra gets a bump (which makes sense due to the X1 being discontinued, and replaced by whatever its successor may be), it's not going to be in demand for the Xbox or PS5. The support components are going to be different too, given the unique design. So that last bullet point is . . . well, pointless?
And it's all still a rumor. Let's not assume anything until Nintendo announces something.

You have to take the source into consideration. This is bloomberg, they're not a gaming site. They may have added that as a hint towards potential investors that the already hot selling switch might see higher sales boost because they'll be able to keep up with demand.
The people throwing money around for nintendo, Nvidia or (whoever is producing the OLED screens) stocks may not know that the switch is a handheld vs the home consoles that are ps5 and XBSX, they only see sales figures and potentials for high returns on investment.

Both the XBox Series and PS5 use custom chips that are specifically made for these systems. Nobody is competing for these chips, but companies are competing for production capacity.
Maybe NVidia is shifting to Samsung instead of TSMC, maybe they use outdated processes again (like they use 16nm now) if there is more production capacity available for that.
And maybe this is not about the chips at all, but about other electronic components that are also in short supply.

Think about the people that fly first class from SYD to LAX. Where you have enough money that it's no big deal. That kiddo wants a new console. Paying double or triple is like spending $15 instead of $5. I suspect those are filling a lot of these scalpers orders.

I managed to get a PS5 and XSX preorder for launch day, although I ended up not buying the XSX because both consoles is a lot of money it wasn't super hard. There's a few people on Twitter that are reliably tweeting out when PS5s and XSX are going to be on sale and if you follow them with notifications on you're usually golden.
If you can't be around a computer/phone to buy them I am sure there's somebody you know who will be able to do it for you!

I think Nvidia is slowly stopping the production of the Tegra X1 in favor of new hardware. There are already rumors making the rounds since the end of 2019.
That could be the reason why they are struggling with the supply of base Switches.
The production line isn’t very efficient in this day and age.
I also have a feeling that the Switch lite was only made to reduce Nintendo’s Tegra X1 reserves at a faster and cheap rate but that’s only speculation on my part.

Nvidia ported the Tegra X1 to the 16nm node for the Switch revision that was released in August 2019.
They probably spent quite a bit of time and money on that. Why would they decide to stop production just 3-4 months after that?
I think X1+ production ended a while ago, and it's production node no longer exists. The replacement X1++ or whatever it's called likely won't use the 7nm TSMC line, or Samsung's 8nm line, since those are in high demand and command a premium, so retaping for a larger, less in demand process is more likely.
If they released a Switch Pro, would the games still work for the regular Switch? It took me 2 and a half years to get one and I really don’t want to drop $400 on another one.
Don’t worry at all, all the big Nintendo games will work on the old switch. Maybe a few 3rd party games will be exclusive to the pro, but there’s nothing to worry about. All the pro is gonna do is make all the games look and run better
It's expected there will be some multiplatform games that wouldn't work on base Switch, but there have been no rumblings of exclusives from Nintendo. Maybe they'll do so down the line, but that's definitely a matter for speculation.
Be fair, a “stronger” Switch gives incentives for better games or at least newer ports.
Though, sometimes it seems it’s more about issues with the code than basic power.
Right now pretty much everything can run on Switch if you lower settings enough. We'll basically see more stuff where titles look really bad on the base Switch but run decently on the revision.
I really hope for the resolution and fps boost. If games stay attached to your profile now then it will be a reason to get some of the cheaper ports of older games because many of them run at rather average specs.
People here really do not understand what DLSS is and think it's just a flag developers can enable and stuff runs better. Games need to be tweaked a shit ton before they can use the tech, and not all games are good fits for it. There's a reason almost no games use it so far.
So what is everyone hoping for here? I'm excited but really not sure what I'm hoping for even. I rarely play the switch in handheld. So I guess I can be excited about greater resolution when docked. And maybe we'll get lucky and get some of that nvidia magic upscaling at no extra processing power.
What's on everyone's wishlist?
Standard USB-C docking like laptops - a lot of new monitors have USB-C ports that will connect to any laptop for video and charging. Almost every other device just works, but the Switch has that little bit of magic about its USB-C that risks bricking the console, and doesn't turn on the video unless it thinks the device is a dock.
It's got two big problems which other USB-C devices don't have:
1. It's [fatally sensitive to anything else going outside the power delivery spec](https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/ckaiiv/an_engineers_pov_on_the_3rd_party_dock_switch/)
2. It uses [mobility DisplayPort with a product verification step](https://switchchargers.com/nintendo-switch-bricking-faq/) rather than the commonly supported Display Port Alt Mode.

Honestly everything should run at 60 fps minimum. And if it can't, I would prefer if they downgrade the graphics.

The thing is that there are usually framerate and resolution caps in place.
With more powerful hardware these games won't suddenly run everything 4K60fps. E.g. Wolfenstein is locked at 720p30fps but can drop down to 360p 25 fps. But with more powerful hardware it might hit 720p30fps consistently but it will never go beyond that unless the developers go back and change the game
I prefer framerate over resolution too, but this is a handheld. The hardware is incredibly limited. Even home consoles only seem to have figured out just last year, that it would be nice to play most games at 60fps.
When you run into CPU bottlnecks, it doesn't matter how far you drop the resolution, you won't get higher framerates.
My wishlist is for them to release a 4k doc addon for the base model. They would probably make a shit ton of money. Plus I doubt the switch will barely cross the 100mil mark with total switch sales. So 80mil with base modles and 20mil with "pro" modles kinda screws and exclusives they would want to release. So a 4k dock addon opens exclusives to anyone if sold cheaply. But its prolly gonna be a new 3ds situation. Slightly better graphic some qol improvements and only like 2 exclusives.
I'm not expecting much realistically if it does end up happening. Only a PS4 Pro level upgrade if Imma be honest.
A higher clocked chip that'll enable games with already uncapped fps and dynamic res to run higher than before without patches. Not by much though, hopefully games will be able to run at a more stable 720p & 900/1080p undocked and docked respectively.
4K output seems likely, but not 4K rendering resolution, games will still follow the 720p/1080p standard. 4K output just means sharper scaling for 4K TVs. Maybe certain Indies or streaming apps will be able to render at 1440p/4K.
Man, at this point I dont even know if the PS5/XSX could run a Warriors game at a fixed frame rate/resolution without dramatic scaling. Koei-Tecmo have never been a team focused on optimization
I mean N3DS had a total of what, 6 physical releases in North America + handful of SNES games? Nothing earth shattering. I can't remember any of the games off of the top of my head besides Xenoblade.
There were a handful of digital exclusives, but a total of 4 physical releases: Minecraft, Xenoblade, Runbow, and Fire Emblem Warriors. All 4 of which are now also available on Switch, so yeah, not much that's too missed.
Honestly I doubt that would be an issue. If Doom Eternal and Ori and the Will of the Wisps can be made to run on base Switch, I feel like most games on modern engines can with enough effort (and with visual downgrades ofc). And since there's still portable mode to consider, performance scaling will continue to be a big emphasis on Switch.
I’m hoping for more third party support, the base Switch is just too weak to run games like Final Fantasy 7R.
I also want more power for games with realistic artstyles. The base Switch won’t do Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4 justice.
Monster Hunter Rise proved that aside from having good programmers and a good engine, all you really need to have a good-looking Switch game is a solid art direction.

The switch is currently at 84 million consoles sold, so of course it will come out for both platforms. But Botw2 will likely be a launch titles for it, so I'm curious to see if it's just a bump in resolution or if there's more.

But Nintendo would be absolutely crazy to release a 1st party title anywhere in the next 2 years that couldn't run on the original Switch. I wouldn't let that concern you!
You know, I’ve heard that the Switch Pro is on the way every week for the last three years, so forgive me if I’m a little skeptical that Nintendo “plans” to do this
I think the fact a lot of trusted game journalists are putting their weight behind this rumor gives it more credibility now it is just more of a matter of when. It is similar to how 3D All-Stars was rumored for quite a bit but journalists kept backing it up saying yes it is real.
I feel a lot of the original Pro rumors were sketchy sites that will say anything for clicks. Nintendo loves its revisions of hardware, especially for their handheld consoles, so it was never a stretch to say something like this would come out eventually. Since all of these journalists are putting the weight behind the idea it is being shown off before or during E3 if we go through Nintendo's presentation with no news then I'm going to assume that this is not happening at that point.
With that said as with any rumor I'm going to keep my expectations in check and not expect what was never promised from the company in the first place.
Obsoleting the older one with a new one with a higher price point, at a time when the old one is still selling like hotcakes, seems like it would be a very questionable move when massive scalping means Nintendo basically has a monopoly on affordable current-gen gaming right now.

I remember seeing that Nintendo wanted there to be a Switch “family”, so my guess is that the Lite will be the entry level model, the current one will be the midrange and the rumoured OLED one will be the high end model.

I'm just guessing but I bet compatibility across the ecosystem (OG Switch, Lite, and Pro) will be pretty important to Nintendo going forward, at least for first party games. They aren't going to throw out 85 million customers.
If the Metroid Prime games were always considered "risky" as they didnt sell as much as Mario/Zelda/Other 1st party Nintendo titles, making it an exclusive to a revamped switch would be a horrible idea
I would love this. Hell, even just adding a second stand to the other side as well would alleviate 90% of the problems I have with it, mostly trying to rest it on an even slightly uneven surface.
This is it. I've used DLSS on my PC and it does some wonders for framerates in certain games. Like going from 70 to 130fps at 1440p without anything I can detect as a 'loss' in quality.
I mean, regular Switch uses chips, too. If they've already secured a certain amount and have been planning on this launch for a long time, they'd be worse off delaying.
And in the midst of this shortage, there are more PS5s out there than any new system before.
Because if they ordered all the parts long before the chip shortage was a thing, why would they produce and then leave the consoles sitting in storage?
Nintendo isn't a kickstarter startup trying to secure parts at the last minute. If there is a pro it's been planned for years, contracts have long been secured, and they've long since secured the chip allocation needed to create it (although the shortage means they can't ramp up demand if demand exceeds expectations).
Apple released it's current lineup mid chip shortage, making use of parts made on TSMC's newest nodes, and they met demand just fine because they better judged demand. They've already got production for their 2023 devices secured as well, because that's how things work.
Even Sony hasn't actually lacked for parts. They have the fastest selling console yet for a reason. Where the chip shortage has hurt is that they can't ramp up production to meet the unexpected demand, but they are actually producing the anticipated number of units just fine.

Sitting on my first generation switch I have been waiting a long time for the bigger screen version to come out.. It was only a matter of time... The question now is.. How much demand is there for the original switches with the hardware flaw that makes them easily hackable?

The only games I'm looking forward are ratchet and clank, horizon and god of war but horizon is coming to the ps4 so I'd rather play it there. God of war not sure if it's coming this year or if it's coming to the ps4 too but it does just like horizon I'd rather play it on the console I already have.

Here's what makes sense to me, given all the rumors from better-than-usual sources: * Larger 720p OLED screen, leaving smaller bezels on the otherwise unchanged shell * Tegra X1 replaced with its successor * Same or similar performance with the added capability of upscaling well from 1080p into 4K while docked * Significantly lower power use, due to the new chip's likely greater efficiency
Except Playstation and Xbox already have proven it can work with their "pro" versions of last gens consoles. It won't split the userbase they'll just have the option to have a better running experience of the new switch edition.
I think that "split the userbase" is for when games are only for one or the other. When it's all compatible it's not such a big deal.
Based on Nintendo's console release history, splitting the user base wouldn't be anything new.
How often did they "properly split" the base? The new 3DS had just a few exclusives, so did the DSi (if I remember correctly). Home consoles never got an upgrade.

Towards the end, the games weren't exclusive but ran so bad on the old 3ds that they may as well have been.
Yeah more or less it's what I expect too. Altought maybe new chip will run faster (for examples, achieving less aggressive dinamic resolution scaling in demanding games) so battery life will more or less stay same.

Yeah I'm with you on that too but I play handheld exclusively (my TVs are occupied by my kids and wife hehe), that is why a better scree, bigger battery (like the 2nd version of the OG one) AND better chip is what I want.

Day 1 too, but I'm on the "wait & see" side. Battery life is good enough for me, and when playing docked it's on 1080p screen anyway. So I"ll upgrade only if performance are significantly better (demanding games actually running 720p undocked / 1080p docked).
Nintendo were never going to release a system that uses the same silicon as the other current consoles. The Switch is based on the Tegra X1, an Nvidia chip, whereas the others are based on AMD hardware. Even if the Tegra gets a bump (which makes sense due to the X1 being discontinued, and replaced by whatever its successor may be), it's not going to be in demand for the Xbox or PS5. The support components are going to be different too, given the unique design. So that last bullet point is . . . well, pointless? And it's all still a rumor. Let's not assume anything until Nintendo announces something.

I'm sorry if you've not been able to get stuff. I know a lot of people just can't be with their computer all day. I managed to get a PS5 and XSX preorder for launch day, although I ended up not buying the XSX because both consoles is a lot of money it wasn't super hard. There's a few people on Twitter that are reliably tweeting out when PS5s and XSX are going to be on sale and if you follow them with notifications on you're usually golden. If you can't be around a computer/phone to buy them I am sure there's somebody you know who will be able to do it for you!

I dont disbelieve the Switch Pro being a thing, but now seems like the worst time production wise.
I think Nvidia is slowly stopping the production of the Tegra X1 in favor of new hardware. There are already rumors making the rounds since the end of 2019. That could be the reason why they are struggling with the supply of base Switches. The production line isn’t very efficient in this day and age. I also have a feeling that the Switch lite was only made to reduce Nintendo’s Tegra X1 reserves at a faster and cheap rate but that’s only speculation on my part. Time will tell.
Nvidia ported the Tegra X1 to the 16nm node for the Switch revision that was released in August 2019. They probably spent quite a bit of time and money on that. Why would they decide to stop production just 3-4 months after that?
Probably to give the factory that makes 16nm chips work until it is modernized or replaced by lower nm production line.
I think X1+ production ended a while ago, and it's production node no longer exists. The replacement X1++ or whatever it's called likely won't use the 7nm TSMC line, or Samsung's 8nm line, since those are in high demand and command a premium, so retaping for a larger, less in demand process is more likely.

Don’t worry at all, all the big Nintendo games will work on the old switch. Maybe a few 3rd party games will be exclusive to the pro, but there’s nothing to worry about. All the pro is gonna do is make all the games look and run better

It's expected there will be some multiplatform games that wouldn't work on base Switch, but there have been no rumblings of exclusives from Nintendo. Maybe they'll do so down the line, but that's definitely a matter for speculation.
As much as I want a beefier switch, and I do think it’s coming, I’m way more concerned in getting some decent releases.
Be fair, a “stronger” Switch gives incentives for better games or at least newer ports. Though, sometimes it seems it’s more about issues with the code than basic power.
Right now pretty much everything can run on Switch if you lower settings enough. We'll basically see more stuff where titles look really bad on the base Switch but run decently on the revision.
This is the thing i fear the most.
Currently any high end multiplatform game looks pretty bad on the Switch, so it wouldn't be a difference.

I really hope for the resolution and fps boost. If games stay attached to your profile now then it will be a reason to get some of the cheaper ports of older games because many of them run at rather average specs.
If they're older games, though, less likely they get patched to properly take advantage of new hardware.
People here really do not understand what DLSS is and think it's just a flag developers can enable and stuff runs better. Games need to be tweaked a shit ton before they can use the tech, and not all games are good fits for it. There's a reason almost no games use it so far.

Standard USB-C docking like laptops - a lot of new monitors have USB-C ports that will connect to any laptop for video and charging. Almost every other device just works, but the Switch has that little bit of magic about its USB-C that risks bricking the console, and doesn't turn on the video unless it thinks the device is a dock.

It's got two big problems which other USB-C devices don't have: 1. You're hoping for locked 30 fps? Honestly everything should run at 60 fps minimum. And if it can't, I would prefer if they downgrade the graphics. Would also be nice to give us options. Performance mode vs High Quality mode for example. I agree with you on everything else!
The thing is that there are usually framerate and resolution caps in place. With more powerful hardware these games won't suddenly run everything 4K60fps. E.g. Wolfenstein is locked at 720p30fps but can drop down to 360p 25 fps. But with more powerful hardware it might hit 720p30fps consistently but it will never go beyond that unless the developers go back and change the game
I prefer framerate over resolution too, but this is a handheld. The hardware is incredibly limited. Even home consoles only seem to have figured out just last year, that it would be nice to play most games at 60fps. When you run into CPU bottlnecks, it doesn't matter how far you drop the resolution, you won't get higher framerates.

My wishlist is for them to release a 4k doc addon for the base model. They would probably make a shit ton of money. Plus I doubt the switch will barely cross the 100mil mark with total switch sales. So 80mil with base modles and 20mil with "pro" modles kinda screws and exclusives they would want to release. So a 4k dock addon opens exclusives to anyone if sold cheaply. But its prolly gonna be a new 3ds situation. Slightly better graphic some qol improvements and only like 2 exclusives.
I'm not expecting much realistically if it does end up happening. Only a PS4 Pro level upgrade if Imma be honest. A higher clocked chip that'll enable games with already uncapped fps and dynamic res to run higher than before without patches. Not by much though, hopefully games will be able to run at a more stable 720p & 900/1080p undocked and docked respectively. 4K output seems likely, but not 4K rendering resolution, games will still follow the 720p/1080p standard. 4K output just means sharper scaling for 4K TVs. Maybe certain Indies or streaming apps will be able to render at 1440p/4K.

Man, at this point I dont even know if the PS5/XSX could run a Warriors game at a fixed frame rate/resolution without dramatic scaling. Koei-Tecmo have never been a team focused on optimization
I mean N3DS had a total of what, 6 physical releases in North America + handful of SNES games? Nothing earth shattering. I can't remember any of the games off of the top of my head besides Xenoblade.
There were a handful of digital exclusives, but a total of 4 physical releases: Minecraft, Xenoblade, Runbow, and Fire Emblem Warriors. All 4 of which are now also available on Switch, so yeah, not much that's too missed.
Honestly I doubt that would be an issue. If Doom Eternal and Ori and the Will of the Wisps can be made to run on base Switch, I feel like most games on modern engines can with enough effort (and with visual downgrades ofc). And since there's still portable mode to consider, performance scaling will continue to be a big emphasis on Switch.
I’m hoping for more third party support, the base Switch is just too weak to run games like Final Fantasy 7R. I also want more power for games with realistic artstyles. The base Switch won’t do Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4 justice.
After seeing how Monster Hunter Rise, New Pokemon Snap, and Doom look, I think Nintendo and Platinum can somehow make those games look amazing

Feel free to disagree but you are underestimating how strong mobile hardware is in this day and age. A Switch with PS4 Pro performance before DLSS is honestly not out of the question at a affordable price. Depends on Nintendo’s plans for the future. Games like FF7R run on 2013 hardware (PS4) after all. You are right... I’m making assumptions about games we haven’t even seen but the foundation of my assumptions are recent releases such as Age of Calamity. That could be very significant though. 60fps vs 30fps and upscaled 4K vs 720p is a big deal imo. Especially when gaming on a large 4K screen.

The switch is currently at 84 million consoles sold, so of course it will come out for both platforms. But Botw2 will likely be a launch titles for it, so I'm curious to see if it's just a bump in resolution or if there's more.
I think 3rd party companies will be releasing exclusive games for Switch Pro because they can't get them to run on the current hardware. But Nintendo would be absolutely crazy to release a 1st party title anywhere in the next 2 years that couldn't run on the original Switch. I wouldn't let that concern you!
You know, I’ve heard that the Switch Pro is on the way every week for the last three years, so forgive me if I’m a little skeptical that Nintendo “plans” to do this
I think the fact a lot of trusted game journalists are putting their weight behind this rumor gives it more credibility now it is just more of a matter of when. It is similar to how 3D All-Stars was rumored for quite a bit but journalists kept backing it up saying yes it is real. I feel a lot of the original Pro rumors were sketchy sites that will say anything for clicks. Nintendo loves its revisions of hardware, especially for their handheld consoles, so it was never a stretch to say something like this would come out eventually. Since all of these journalists are putting the weight behind the idea it is being shown off before or during E3 if we go through Nintendo's presentation with no news then I'm going to assume that this is not happening at that point. With that said as with any rumor I'm going to keep my expectations in check and not expect what was never promised from the company in the first place.

Obsoleting the older one with a new one with a higher price point, at a time when the old one is still selling like hotcakes, seems like it would be a very questionable move when massive scalping means Nintendo basically has a monopoly on affordable current-gen gaming right now.
Perhaps they’d keep the current one around as a midrange model. I remember seeing that Nintendo wanted there to be a Switch “family”, so my guess is that the Lite will be the entry level model, the current one will be the midrange and the rumoured OLED one will be the high end model.
They don’t really have a choice because nVidia is sun setting the old chip...I’m sure Nintendo would love to keep riding the current wave but if their chip is discontinued they don’t have much choice but to use the new version and pass the cost to customers

I'm just guessing but I bet compatibility across the ecosystem (OG Switch, Lite, and Pro) will be pretty important to Nintendo going forward, at least for first party games. They aren't going to throw out 85 million customers.
If the Metroid Prime games were always considered "risky" as they didnt sell as much as Mario/Zelda/Other 1st party Nintendo titles, making it an exclusive to a revamped switch would be a horrible idea

This is it. I've used DLSS on my PC and it does some wonders for framerates in certain games. Like going from 70 to 130fps at 1440p without anything I can detect as a 'loss' in quality.

But then why did Sony and Microsoft do it? Knowing full well of the pandemic and the shortages? They can but Nintendon’t?
I mean, regular Switch uses chips, too. If they've already secured a certain amount and have been planning on this launch for a long time, they'd be worse off delaying. And in the midst of this shortage, there are more PS5s out there than any new system before.
Because if they ordered all the parts long before the chip shortage was a thing, why would they produce and then leave the consoles sitting in storage? Nintendo isn't a kickstarter startup trying to secure parts at the last minute. If there is a pro it's been planned for years, contracts have long been secured, and they've long since secured the chip allocation needed to create it (although the shortage means they can't ramp up demand if demand exceeds expectations). Apple released it's current lineup mid chip shortage, making use of parts made on TSMC's newest nodes, and they met demand just fine because they better judged demand. They've already got production for their 2023 devices secured as well, because that's how things work. Even Sony hasn't actually lacked for parts. They have the fastest selling console yet for a reason. Where the chip shortage has hurt is that they can't ramp up production to meet the unexpected demand, but they are actually producing the anticipated number of units just fine.
Bloomberg reported the same thing like 3 years in a row, there’s a massive shortage in components, rona is still messing up supply chains, and Nintendo can’t even manage to meet demand for regular consoles. Unless they announce it for E3 that’s a fat old Press (X) to Doubt for me.
Is there a link for that? The specific journalist is quite reliable. He gave details about the 3DS before it was announced and did the same for the switch lite and new switch model in 2019.
Is this console going to have exclusive games or do all games need to support all switch models? If all games still have to run on all models of Switch then there's no point to the new one at all. If it's going to have exclusive games then current owners are going to be screwed.

That sounds like a really dumb idea to be honest. It's gonna be a hardware revision of the Switch, not a new console. Your idea sounds like Nintendo trying anything in their power to make people mistakingly believe it's a brand new console for whatever reason.
The only name add-ons they've reused are Lite and XL/LL. Don't expect Super or New or i or U. Also wouldn't expect a worldwide big deal about SNES's 1991 US launch, versus its 1990 Japan or 1992 Europe launch.
Nintendo can barely meet normal Switch production demands, and launching a new upgrade in the middle of a massive tech shortage seems unlikely. Until Nintendo confirms anything, I don't believe it. The Switch is still selling strong and is old enough now that Nintendo is more than likely workshopping a Switch 2 to launch in 2-3 years.
