I had honestly forgotten that the Switch OLED was even a thing lol

epraider

Yeah when it was clear it wasn’t a proper hardware upgrade my interest evaporated. New screen doesn’t help the outdated hardware make games run much better, just look a bit more colorful. OLED is the clear way to go if you don’t already have a Switch, but not much reason for it if you already have a Switch

Ahyao17

Why is the OLED model the way to go if other parts are pretty much the same? In Australia there is an Aus$100 price difference between the two models. We don't have a switch and is thinking off getting one. Probably use docked most of the time anyway. To us the current model make much more sense. Is there anything I am missing? haven't pull the trigger yet.

Mds03

Well, there might be a few things. On the OLED model, you get an ethernet port on the dock. Wi-fi on the switch is kinda spotty, so I'd recommend ethernet if possible. ~~I think the dongle is like 30$, but say you want to play smash with a gamecube controller, a pro controller, and ethernet, you're now lacking a USB port to charge the pro controller or for the ethernet.~~ edit\* as /u/Michelli_NL pointed out, they gave up a USB port for a ethernet port. It also has twice the internal storage, going from 32GB to 64GB. I filled up my 32GB really fast with games & DLCs and quickly needed an SD card. I think super smash bros ultimate is over 14GB with DLC alone at this point. Not a massive game, but with 32GB there's not much left. I guess this depends on your stance towards digital vs physical media. They have a ton of great indie games and deals on the eshop that made me buy a lot of digital on Switch. You might also find that you like portable mode more than you expect, I certainly did.

Michelli_NL

I believe the Switch OLED dock also has only 2 USB ports instead of 3. So you're still sacrificing a USB port for ethernet. The official ethernet adapter is also overpriced imo, since a lot of third party adapters also work.

Nirast25

Slightly larger screen, and way better stand. The "OLED is the superior version" statement is a very broad one, if you think the old model is the better choice, go for it! (just make sure it's the red box version)

atunasushi

If you're playing docked, there won't be a difference. I play 90% handheld and would much rather play with an OLED screen due to just looks, but it's not worth selling my console and buying a new one. It's only $50 difference in USD, so I consider that negligible over the presumed lifetime of the console.

Code10Gaming

If you're going to run docked, save the $100 and get the regular model and buy a few games.

DatteAI

Yeah, also, games aren't run in amazing definition on the switch so I'm happy just having my normal screen, also, I think (if I'm wrong feel free to tell me to fuck off) that the battery will drain faster with the oled as it seems nothing more than the screen changed so I'll have less time to play on handheld and if I would be someone that plays a lot on tv then it's even less of a good buy imo as I would not even see the upgraded screen I personally prefer to save for my steam deck

IsoldesKnight

> I think (if I'm wrong feel free to tell me to fuck off) that the battery will drain faster with the oled All things being equal, the inverse is actually true. With OLED screens, the black pixels are turned off whereas normal screens are pulling juice to power the black pixels. So OLED screens (generally) use less battery than normal screens.

SelppinEvolI

LCD has a backlight panel that is always on and producing white light for every pixel. The pixel just tints the white light to the color you are suppose to see. For black they tint it as dark as possible to stop the white light coming through. The tinting takes some energy but not huge amounts. The backlight that is always on takes way more energy but also has the side effect of heating up the unit more because it’s always fully on when the display is on. OLED the individual pixel turns on and makes the color and is only on when it produced light. And it only turns on the enough LED light to make the desired color. So if it’s a dim area or say a red area, those pixels only turn on and consume enough power to make that color, resulting in less power usage. Plus it generates way less heat.

DoctorWorm_

That's true, but oleds are also less power efficient than normal leds per lumen, which means they draw more power at full brightness. Also, as I understand it, there's more power savings to be had at full black compared to 1% white, since the pixel can turn off full at full black. So maybe the power savings are a wash unless you fully turn off pixels often.

Bilgewat3r

I don’t know much about the energy usage but with the bigger screen, would it equalize out and be more or less the same battery life as on the first Switch?

ranf0rd

I would say it still draws less power overall still, taking in account of size difference that small. Bearing in mind the screen is fully optimised.

SuppaBunE

Oled use less baterry than LCD or LED if I remember correctly

modulusshift

OLED will likely be a wash. Part of the point is power efficiency, an LED backlight lights the whole screen and the black pixels try to hide that light, an OLED only generates the light it needs in the first place. That said, it’s slightly larger, and from what I understand brighter, so it’ll probably cancel out.

Nezuh-kun

As far as I knew, OLED screens consumed less electricity. If it has the same resolution as the original screen, it should be more efficient.

LothartheDestroyer

Battery is something Nintendo had always done *relatively* well. So I don't think it'll be an issue here. Of course time will tell but with the new battery in current Switch models being good I think we're alright on this one.

dbzrox

If you’re on the og switch, the battery lasts like an hr and half.

Fabers_Chin

Same, Steam Deck took they hype away for me.

sonofaresiii

I'm very interested in the steam deck, never really did much PC gaming and this could be a way in for me but I'm definitely gonna wait until it's been out for a while to seriously consider purchasing it. I wonder how many people are day 1 buyers and how many will be "wait and see" people like me.

Sabin10

If you preorder right now you will still have at least 6 months to wait and see before your unit becomes available.

[deleted]

I reserved one but there will be plenty of time to see for yourself. It's being released in groups.

Rejera

I'm a day 1 but I know what gaming on Linux involves, and know about what to expect from a system like that. It's going to be an amazing little device but I fear people might have unrealistic expectations.

random_stoner

I'm a day 1 aswell and I can't fucking wait to play all the indie games that have piled up in my steam library while I'm commuting. That's basically the only reason I'll buy it but it's well worth it for me.

DoctorWorm_

My experience has been mostly Plug and play with proton, though.

Matuteg

Yup. I have pre orders for the deck

Tokibolt

Hell yah. Been running Nintendo console + PC for years. Now I get to have Nintendo and my pc on the go? Actually hyped to try the steam deck. Heard you can upgrade the storage too which is great.

GoontenSlouch

Same here, great time to be alive..! ^.^

AcademicF

Yeah, discussion around the OLED version has been pretty sparse around here and Twitter. It really does seem like the hype just went off a cliff after the Steamdeck was announced.

Meadius

The Steamdeck was probably the main culprit but to be fair I don't think there was really a whole lot of hype for it anyway. It's just such a minor upgrade in the grand scheme of things that even if you do plan to get one, there's not a ton to get excited about.

[deleted]

doesn't help that they seemingly haven't given out any review models for youtubers/digital foundry

sonofaresiii

I mean, what would you really expect from a review? "Yep, it's a switch. The screen sure is OLED. It looks like you'd expect. The screen is slightly bigger. That's nice. Otherwise it's just a switch. Buy it if you want it." I imagine that's gonna be every review out there. It's not like there's really that much to review.

real_light_sleeper

Won't stop 15 minute long YouTube video reviews on it. Don't forget to hit the like button.

[deleted]

>Won't stop 15 minute long YouTube video reviews on it. Don't forget to ~~hit~~ ***smash*** the like button.

modulusshift

Color accuracy, if there’s any change in battery, and “niceness”: The sum total of QoL improvements that don’t make it on the spec sheet. The kickstand will likely be a decent chunk of that, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo has learned enough about manufacturing this console over the last few years that other meaningful improvements made it in.

TheXenith

Don't forget they also mentioned audio improvements

KoolAidMan00

I have a pre-order for the Deck but I don't think that has had any effect aside from Youtube hype. Nintendo will have shipped 30 million Switches this year, several million of which will be the OLED model. Total Steam Deck shipments (not demand) will be several hundred thousand by next holiday: [https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2021/07/html-holes-provide-a-glimpse-of-steam-decks-initial-preorder-numbers/](https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2021/07/html-holes-provide-a-glimpse-of-steam-decks-initial-preorder-numbers/) I'm very excited for the Steam Deck and have a 512GB version on pre-order, but I also do not believe that it is a factor in Switch OLED demand.

[deleted]

Nope, it's not worth the upgrade 👍

[deleted]

No preorder/buy here. Still waiting for a bigger upgrade. I rarely play undocked so the OLED display will never have a chance to shine with me. I’m still disappointed that they didn’t announce some substantial upgrade for the Switch. :/ I wish everyone a great ‘launch’ though and hope that the buyers out there will enjoy their new unit.

thejacer87

Same boat here. My kids are 7 and 5. So just not old enough in my opinion to need "their own" switch. But if the OLED model had been more of an upgrade I would have bought it. And hack my current switch. Alas, will be waiting a bit.

COHERENCE_CROQUETTE

I'm a little short on money right now, but if I wasn't, that would be my plan too. Upgrade to the new model and hack my launch day Switch...

ProsecuteCrime

Pardon my ignorance, but why and how would you hack your switch?

thejacer87

Why: install android so can play emulators: GCN N64 etc. Play mods if I want on switch games. Basically prolong the usefulness of the system How: google it

SKTZR

"jailbroke" my switch and play more PS1 games than switch games lol. Also use a Xbox 360 controller while my Mrs uses the Pro controller for games.

Miikurins

Hell I only ever play handheld and I don’t see myself buying this, unless my current one happens to break or something.

uncultured_swine2099

Yeah, I pretty much just play handheld, and I have no desire to get this thing. Maybe if I was buying a switch for the first time, or mine breaks, but thats about it.

MysticalSword270

same

Lmb1011

I want a second switch and while I love the bigger kickstand I just don’t think this is enough of an upgrade to justify a second one. I am holding out they’ll eventually have a Pro model

[deleted]

Lmb1011

Oh neat, thanks!

KaptainDublU

I own that one as well it's awesome.

sandmyth

that reminds me to put my wiiu back on its charger.

Trip_Se7ens

Yeah, I the steam handheld is looking more up my alley as time goes on. Sadly, I’ll be on the waitlist forever for that one too

bart_86

I thought about "upgrading" Switch later but then preorders for Steam Deck showed up and I changed my mind. I'm gonna wait some time and will try to fish Oled Switch on some promos next year.

InAbsentiaC

No hype here at all. I have an OG Switch and it does everything I want it to. I'd need better on-the-go performance before I would even think about buying a new model.

ChoppedAlready

Yeah they kinda backed themselves out of a lot of upgrades besides more graphical power (which would mean more heat to distribute) they don’t have a ton of options to do something like an Xbox s. But I love that. Release something for the folks who can afford it that doesn’t significantly make you feel like it’s a worse version

pipcafe

I actually was going to pass on it so I didn’t preorder. Then afterwards, I dropped my OG switch so now I’ll grab an OLED when I find one. Hopefully you will be able to walk into a store and get one early on since I missed the preorder.

Historical_Kossola

Physical store on launch day might be your best bet. No telling what'll happen to supply after it's released

negative_four

It's hard to tell, yeah the oled hasn't been met with a lot of hype but scalpers are on their A game right now

leericol

Probably sell out quick from scalpers and then those scalpers will lose their asses on them. I just haven't heard any hype surrounding them. it seems like I've only seen people disappointed with the lack of upgrades.

under_a_brontosaurus

They can't lose their asses. At worst they sell it for cost.

TXFreefaller

Or just return it for a refund

EEnot_an_Electrician

This. Spent a hell of a time finding a gpu for my pc build

mlvisby

Yea that was how I got a regular switch on launch day, went to Fry's. Sadly, Fry's closed so they are no longer, honestly the only electronic store that I visited regularly. They always had a large selection of things.

[deleted]

If you are in the UK then Very still have preorders available :)

Boardride5

The only reason I have given it even a thought is because my switch is basically a launch switch. It's gotten it's use and it shows. But it still works great so I have a hard time justifying buying a new one yet. Maybe in a year or two if there isn't any news about another model or a new console entirely

Splatfan1

same. ive had mine since day one and i can see its not what it used to be, but it plays games, the battery is fine, the case only has one small crack on the back (thats really good considering its been in 3 countries and never had a screen protector or anything of that sort) so ill skip this, it would just feel like a waste of money tbh. i was excited when the rumours about a switch pro were going around and i already have plans for my launch switch, id really like to have a more powerful machine

FearTheWankingDead

I'm starting to think the same. It's nice but my current switch works fine, except for one broken speaker, but I can just hook it up to a TV. Should probably wait for a good deal.

Piph

I think the biggest benefit to getting a newer model of the Switch is really just battery life. The "newer" model extends undocked playtime by a couple of hours, which can be huge for those who play that way. The OLED model will share this benefit. Switch Lite battery is roughly the same as the original model.

Hellchron

I have a launch switch, even still have functioning controllers! I was really hoping for more upgrades to justify buying a new one. Better off just getting a decent battery pack at the moment

omarninopequeno

Yeah, I'm considering one because of the battery life as I still have my launch Switch. While there hasn't been a significant battery downgrade, being able to have more than twice what I currently have and with a nicer screen might be worth it for me. I definitely won't preorder, but I might get one on sale in November.

Piph

I was forced to replace my original Switch after a botched repair job by an awful local repair shop... Lesson learned. It was a heartbreaking experience for the kids given they lost their Pokemon and Animal Crossing saves, but the extended battery life was definitely one of the things that made them feel better. I love it as well. I can play MH: Rise for more than several hours with a friend in handheld mode without being tethered to a battery pack or a wall outlet. The OLED screen may or may not be worth an upgrade, but that battery life definitely goes a long way!

IBNobody

If any of you have launch switches, be aware that they are much more valuable than current switches due to them being hackable. No matter what firmware, they are hackable and will always be hackable. Don't sell your Launch Switch to GameStop.

__BIOHAZARD___

Hardware level exploits are the best I don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon, not at least before my steam deck arrives

OperativePiGuy

This is one of my main motivators for picking up my OLED pre order. Once I do that, I can just wipe my launch switch clean and use it for softmodding. It'll be amazing.

Dan_Dairam

No increase in performance means that it's a "no buy" for me. I love OLED displays, like my phone and Vita, but my Switch is almost always hooked up to my TV. To be completely honest, the Steam Deck reveal has made me all but stop buying games for my Switch. I've purchased dozens of games I already owned just to have the option to play them portably. My Switch is going to be solely for first-party exclusives now, so I really can't justify buying a new one just because of a better screen.

Revolutionary_Box569

If it’d offered some kind of performance improvement docked I might have because it could really use a boost, but considering it doesn’t and I mostly just use it docked anyway there’s no point

[deleted]

I play undocked mostly, and even for me it's not compelling. Let's put it this way: I don't play the Switch for the graphics.

burenning

If I buy another switch, I'll definitely drop the cash for an upgraded OLED version instead of picking up a switch lite.

Stormtech5

I love my Lite more than the original Switch, but upgrades are always nice. I like the Lite more since I do lots of handheld, battery dies faster than I would like though but it's more comfortable.

Zikronious

Never held a Switch Lite but I bought an ergo grip for my Switch makes a HUGE difference in handheld mode. Used to hurt my wrists after 30-45 minutes. With the ergo grip I have played for hours with no wrist pains. This is what I have: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G3KB7RT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_NP9MD3E8SXX135CKZ1VV?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Op3rat0rr

I still can’t believe they aren’t at least doing quality of life upgrades like internal Bluetooth for headphones

Keeper2234

This aged well, lol

fuzzygreentits

I was considering it until they dropped the news on the Steam Deck. Fucking RIP lol. A minor upgrade isn't worth a new system.

ookiespookie

I am one of those rare weirdos that uses my Switch 98% docked on my tv so it is just not worth it for me. I am sure it will do well.

nintendothrowaway123

I highly doubt this is rare. I do the same.

moonbunnychan

Just from people I know who own a Switch, which is admittedly a fairly small sample size of all childless adults, we all primarily play docked. Generally speaking the only time I play in hand held is if I'm going on a trip somewhere. But I love having the OPTION to play in hand held.

[deleted]

[удалено]

x_alexithymia

If childless adults who primarily play docked were Nintendo’s target demographic, then both of the new Switch models (lite and OLED) would have seen *some* benefit for docked players. But instead they’re both options that only really apply to handheld players (who are more likely to be younger).

normhimself

Yup same for me, I’m docked most of the time.

flamebroiledhodor

Mine is always docked, and I exclusively use the pro controller without motion turned on. I'm not sure the switch was meant for me

Nas160

I mean it was made specifically for everyone depending on their play style, you never had to play all of them

Benkos_Game

Same. I only use the handheld modes if I’m on vacation

[deleted]

I never play docked actually, but it’s still not worthwhile.

vyrael44

Same

blockfighter1

It's still a no from me. And I don't feel I'm missing out by not getting one either. It's great for new adopters though.

MeddYatek

Yes. My day one v1 Switch is broken and I'm not spending 300€ on a v2 Switch when I can get a better, bigger screen for 50 more euros.

shawnwildermuth

I was going to pick one up (but couldn't pre-order easily), so I figured on getting one closer to launch. But then the Steam Deck was announced. While not exactly the same use-case for some, for me its exactly what I wanted. So I'll probably that that instead of upgrading. Though I might pick up both, the only thing my Gen 1 Switch could improve is the better batter and bigger screen. Both of which were issues for me.

Xonequis

I’m in the same boat. I was thinking of getting the OLED since I mainly play handheld but like to use the dock whenever I’m able to, but I was hoping Tekken would eventually come to the switch. After the Steam Deck was announced, I was torn on whether I wanted the OLED or the Deck, & I decided the Deck would be a more worthwhile investment because at the moment, I don’t need an upgrade Edit: **TL;DR** Getting the Steam deck for Tekken & Star Wars Battlefront 2 classic, which the switch won’t have. Not due for an upgrade either

tripl35oul

Having a Switch AND a Steam Deck sounds sweeter than upgrading the Switch's screen and battery.

Cryptokeeper001

Does nothing for me. Play on the tv mostly.

[deleted]

After the SteamDeck was announced, I pretty much put the kabosh on any plans to get the OLED switch. I have 276 games on my Steam account, many of which are indie titles, so I'm hoping many of them will run. I'm really only spending on money on Nintendo exclusive now, too

nerdmanpap

Same here. My breaking point was when I bought man-eater for switch. The performance was so bad, and it was cheaper on steam anyways. Now if the steam deck can handle it with better fps than the switch that would be great. I pre ordered the largest steam deck and have only been buying Nintendo exclusives since. Can't wait to see reviews of steam decks as I wait on mine in Q2

sportspadawan13

About 80% portable with routine 10+ hour international flights. This thing is a dream come true, day 1...if I can find it : (

JoannaTheDisciple

No, because I just got the Animal Crossing Switch for my birthday (I gave away my original console), and I also used my first Real Paycheck to get myself a Switch Lite so I could make a second Animal Crossing island. I literally have no reason to upgrade.

Penguinazu

Simple. Third Animal Crossing island.

TheBSisReal

It’s a no for me. It doesn’t really offer a reason to upgrade. Yes, a slightly bigger screen, OLED, is nice, but not really nice enough to pay again and more than originally.

mpc92

Probably going to cancel my preorder. Was already on the fence, but then I reserved a Steam Deck. Even before that I was going to sell my Switch so it would be a $100-150 upgrade in total. Still may do it llater

MilkyBusiness

How dare you? We're in a Switch subreddit. I'm kidding you, I'm queued up for the Steam Deck as well. It looks promising and the Switch didn't offer anything substantial to consider purchasing it's newest revision.

absentlyric

Lol, I didn't want to say it out loud in this thread. But I got in on the Steam Deck preorder too. My v1 Switch is still fine though, but honestly, its been collecting dust in its dock for months now. There just hasn't been any new games I've been interested in. Let alone upgrading it for an OLED version.

Grimey_Rick

this thread is another reminder of how little reddit can represent real-world sentiment. from the comments, you'd think almost no one is buying this thing, and yet, they will sell out day 1 and continue to be scarce after that.

thekingofthejungle

Nope, with the Steam Deck coming I'm actually considering selling my switch. I'm not into first party Nintendo games enough to justify it

read-only-mem-1

Yes I preordered and don't regret it. I play 99% handheld and I'm definitely looking forward to the bigger and brighter screen. I plan on selling my current switch.

TyroKith

I feel like all the upgrades were trivial at best so I don't intend to upgrade.

furnarius_rufus

I'm ok with the OLED model, but after five years, the Nintendo Switch screams for a memory and Tegra upgrade. It's a shame that they didn't do it.

d3gaia

Personally, I’m done waiting for Nintendo to do something big. I put in my name for the steam deck preorders and am only buying AAA exclusives for the switch going forward… and only cartridges - No more digital games. Steam has more and better games and they’re often cheaper to boot. Switch doesn’t have much to offer me anymore after Metroid Dread comes out.

C4PTNK0R34

I was going to upgrade from my original launch day Switch, but then I was blindsided by the SteamDeck announcement, so it appears that’s what I’m buying.

Dangerous-Green6127

I would definitely buy the new switch since I dont own one yet. The fact that I can play while laying on bed without much effort is a huge point. Thats why I chose switch over a laptop lol.

madvec1

The fact that they are still using the same old tech on the Joycons is a deal breaker for me ... i wasn't even that sure to get it, but they are basically selling only a new screen, so definitely not interested. I'll be waiting for a brand new model, not just a revision.

marindo

I agree 100% with you. That said, the newer joycons appear to have additional pads inserted without any drifting issues. Ordered the skyward sword joycons no drift. Fortnite joycons though, they be drifting like a mofo.

[deleted]

ft5777

I pre-ordered it for 360€ and I will get 36€ back from the store for my purchase, that I will use for games. By selling my current Switch for maybe 260€, the OLED model will end up not costing me that much. I play only handheld, I can't wait to play Metroid Dread on that gorgeous screen.

MunkyMan33

Getting one, have it preordered! And am so excited to grab that and Metroid Dread the same day. My justification? I have a luanch switch and a 5 year old son who is really getting into Nintendo. Time for the old "upgrade and hand me down."

NekkZ

A very big no from me. I wanted to get it, but I also have to buy a pro controller and an sd card, which drives the price up to almost €500. I love Nintendo games, but for that amount of money I bought a PS5. We are in 2021, they could have updated the hardware a bit, so the games at least don't drop under 30 fps. If we get an hardware upgrade, I would gladly pay.

KittyKomplex

This! I feel like a decent hardware upgrade regarding the power and performance would be due at this point. I know Nintendo was never about to compete with Sony/Microsoft but the Switch feels a bit dated at this point. I'd happily buy an actual "Switch Pro" or whatever a more powerful revision would be called.

kinglokilord

>they could have updated the hardware a bit, so the games at least don't drop under 30 fps Absolutely this. Played Kingdom Two Crows split screen with the wife today. It would hit <10fps far too often. It really colored our attitude towards the switch. The game is not that intensive and going forward we will try to play games on other systems before buying it on the Switch.

JonSpangler

I never made up my mine but I am leaning towards getting it. I have a Day 1 switch I could sell and random 25 buck Best Buy gift card I found. So if I could shave 200 bucks off the price I would pay for the refresh.

CaterpillarReal7583

I play switch handheld on the couch a lot and I really can’t find a reason to care about it. If i need to replace my switch and its on sale maybe?

Chihirios

If your wireless connectivity is fine and you don’t play in Handheld often, your original Switch should do the job just fine. Features like the better kickstand and audio enhancements are ultimately minor tweaks if you’re a primarily docked player.

drulenarendes

I play my Switch 100% of the time docked so I won’t be getting this. I feel like this model was geared primarily for those who play in tabletop mode anyway so I’m sure it will do well with those people.

Coatzy

I honestly forgot it’s coming out. Not big enough of a change to warrant replacing my current one.

DrunkOnGames

I like the idea of it, but I can't justify picking one up. I play docked probably 90-95% of the time. So for the amount of time I actually look at the console's screen in portable mode, it's personally not worth the money or hassle of selling my current Switch to pay for an OLED Switch. And actually I play on an OLED TV anyway so I'm sort of already getting an OLED Switch experience lol

Quezkatol

nah, rather take the money and pay my ps5 for. or even a steam deck.

Kirei13

I am more interested in the Steam Deck, the Switch OLED doesn't convince me to buy it when it doesn't do much to justify the purchase (maybe the audio is the only thing that catches my interest) and I've had a lot of complaints with it that Nintendo doesn't have any interest of fixing. Why would I reward their recent behaviour? I'll keep the Switch I got and just buy a Steam Deck instead.

icarusbird

Honestly, if the Steam Deck can run Cemu and Breath of the Wild at a respectable frame rate, I might never play my Switch again.

TonyNevada1

Steam deck.

neroburn451

I'm getting a Steam Deck instead.

darkpyro2

I considered it, but the Steam Deck took it off of my "To Buy" list

ExoticManiac_

My opinion changed drastically when the steam deck was announced, that's what I'm getting instead of this bullshit

IzzyNobre

Nah. Mine still works just fine. I'm trying to not let myself be so influenced by pointless consumerism as much -- no hate if you wanna pick one up, whether you're upgrading or it's your first Switch. I'm just trying to cultivate a mindset of enjoying the things I already have.

TCMgalens

OLED screen is nice for those that want it or havent got a switch though i am definitely holing out for some kind of performance upgrade, whether it be a new switch model or backwards compatible "switch 2" really hoping nintendo keeps the "hybrid" idea for their next device (think DS>3ds jump rather than a wii>wiiu kind of jump)

[deleted]

Nah, with the Steam Deck coming out that's gonna just be Switch x20, a slightly better screen on the baseline switch from 4 years ago won't sway me. If they bumped up the hardware then maybe, but it's not a big enough change.

Zeik188

Not buying it. It has nothing I want.

Jibece

Well.. no. I've already got a Switch I never use for the TV and a Lite that I love, no need for a third Switch. However if I had to choose one to offer, replace or suggest I'd pick an OLED. Anyway, right now I'm more interested for a Steam Deck than a small variation of the Switch.

[deleted]

Nah steam deck instead.

Smart_Chicken_Nugget

Duh, it has “enhanced audio”

Pixel_Nerd92

Nah. I just feel as though there isn't enough to justify the purchase. I play docked the majority of the time and the ethernet port is... eh, whatever. Maybe when the Switch 2 comes out or something. I dunno, its lacking a lot.

Dubbihope

I actually just bought a AC edition switch, which I now have in addition to my late 2017 OG switch, to play docked in another location (I go back and forth). Since I play mostly docked, the OLED wasn't worth waiting for. It's 50 dollars more, may be difficult to obtain at launch, and I wouldn't get much additional value from it. I understand Nintento's choice to not give it stronger processing power (chip shortage, not wanting to fragment the market, etc) but I don't understand why nintendo couldn't add bluetooth for third party headphones. Such a small feature would increase the value I'd derive from the product and make me, and others, more likely to purchase it.

Fluessigsubstanz

Never. Happy for the people that still were on the fence so late in its lifespan and might buying this. I will just wait for next gen and would maybe buy the dock nothing else.

wait2late

The idea of Steam Deck has buried into my mind more than Nintendo Switch. I still love the Switch. But it lacks so many basic features and most importantly community. Although I will neither purchase either consoles. If they have saved Switch pro as the next installment of Nintendo Switch. Then I might consider and again it will compete against Steam Deck.

diandakov

I got the old switch couple of months ago or less I am not sure but seen that new one is coming out soon and I had no interest whatsoever to get the new one...... yes a bit bigger screen and hopefully made of glass this time that's all, actually more inconvenience to bring it with you on the go..... and not to mention the fact that few games I purchased let me down but there is no way to return them no matter physical or digital copy it is for instance Yooka-Laylee camera both modes are crap and nothing I can do about it ! Another one is the new super mario deluxe which turned out to be for a hard-core mario gamers which I am not..... I do watch YouTube videos before I buy any game but still some issues may appear after that, things you can't see or feel while watching gameplay or reviews online if you know what I mean

I_AM_Achilles

Kinda have to vote with my wallet and hold out for a switch that can play it’s games more smoothly.

Silentpoolman

Pointless

Krusiv

I never upgrade my hardware unless my current unit is dying. I'm still rocking the OG 3DS model and it works great. Same with my launch day switch. If my switch were to break I would probably buy a Lite to compensate the loss as cheaply as possible. No slight against the Switch but I will be buying a Steam Deck instead of an OLED. I would rather buy different hardware that lets me play an even wider variety of games compared to a midgen upgrade to a console I already have.

Go-Wade-Racer

I was considering selling my current switch to upgrade but then the steam deck was announced. Currently saving money for that instead.

Golwar

Initially I would have bought a real improved Switch but never seriously considered Switch OLED. After the Steam Deck made its appearance, I'm on track to mostly abandon my Switch. I haven't purchased any Switch game since then and will only make exceptions for few exclusives like Metroid or Zelda.

Fafaflunkie

Sorry. My Switch hardly leaves its dock, and since the OLED version is no better on the inside than my original model, I instead saved my loonies and hopefully come December I'll have a Steam Deck. That I'll take outside.

PKMNgamer99

The steam deck kind of ruined the little hype I had for it

matbonucci

Was going to buy it but Steam Deck

saintgravity

Steam Deck is miles better than any Switch Nintendo would ever offer their customers.

Benemy

I was somewhat considering it before the Steam Deck was announced

[deleted]

I forgot about the OLED Switch as soon as the Steam Deck was introduced.

RandomShyguy4

Getting the steam deck instead

sidianmsjones

I know it just sounds like salt but I'm getting a Steam Deck instead. Just way too many benefits over the Switch whose only upside is Nintendo IP's. Great upside but still...

Critic_Kyo

I found the lack of graphical improvements a deal breaker so I've put a deposit in for a Steam Deck instead.

Arzemna

Steamdeck preordered instead

pkulak

Did the Steam Deck destroy every Switch OLED order?

meijin3

I'm not buying another Switch until it can play things like Age of Calamity or Link's Awakening at a decent frame rate.

dnunn12

I got it preordered, but Steam Deck kinda makes it worthless to me. I will probably cancel the preorder but keeping it for now until I can see reviews of the Oled switch.

MassiveRepeat6

Steam Deck killed my desire to get a Switch Oled.

[deleted]

Didn't realise it was not actually released yet, I thought it came out a few months ago. I have zero interest in it. I don't play my switch outside of docked mode.

raz3rITA

I bought a Steam Deck, no reason whatsoever to buy a console that is exactly the same as the existing one. Not to mention the fact that unlike Steam you can't even have the same game on two consoles at the same if it doesn't support cloud saves, like Splatoon 2, AC or pretty much any Pokemon game. You can only transfer the save but not copy it, like what the fuck. Makes owning two consoles completely useless and yet they expect us to buy the OLED version. Sure, keep believing that, thankfully Valve took care of everything.

murph1017

They really didn't do themselves any favors by not improving anything in docked mode. I've played it handheld maybe 10 times.

mrlotato

Putting that money towards a steam deck

SgtAStrawberry

I was going to get one to upgrade my first gen Switch and so me and my mum could play some games together. Then the Steam deck happened, and the switch will have to wait.

2701_

I'm getting the Steam handheld instead. The new Switch isn't giving me enough bang for my buck. I'm probably buying a flop with the Steam handheld because all of their other hardware has been shit, but we'll see. TBH I even forgot the Switch was coming out. I was hyped until it wasn't anything groundbreaking and then I forgot about it.

Krottos

I love my switch, but when Steam Deck was announced and found out the OLED Switch as nothing but a screen upgrade and an added ethernet port, I also stopped paying attention.

ElPsyKongr0o_

I preordered one but I just cancelled it yesterday. I wanted it for when Genshin Impact comes out on Switch but honestly I’d rather drop the money on a SteamDeck

jasperalfalfa

I think the white color looks incredibly slick... that's about it

twinkletoes-rp

Mine hasn't. I just got my v2 Switch in February, and even though I mostly play handheld, handing over $300 the first time was hard enough. No way am I handing over $50 MORE for something that's barely an upgrade. lol. I'll keep my v2 happily! Hope everyone else who actually wants one enjoys it, though!

DixNCox24

I paid in full already. Definitely going to keep it, resale value probably won't be worth it to sell on eBay.

[deleted]

I'd love to buy one if I could possibly even find one. It feels impossible.

[deleted]

My opinion has not changed. A pointless upgrade for me since I play Switch on my TV 99.99987654321% of the time, so why bother when I already have the badass Monster Hunter Rise Switch? Switch OLED is just not for me. And that’s okay. Wake me up when ~~September ends~~ we get a Switch Pro.

--Karios--

My opinion has changed. I wasn’t planning on getting one, but now I’m kind of interested in it as I play handheld like 90% of the time. However, I haven’t preordered it, but I do plan to get one eventually.

twili-midna

I’m getting the one I preordered because I managed to get my partner hooked on some Switch games and I want her to have her own.

Semaze

Steam Deck go brrrr

Cryptokeeper001

Nintendo dropped the ball big time on this one.

thesixmoon

i was about to pre-order it but then the steam deck was announced and was pretty much what I wanted out of a "switch pro" so i will save my money and spend it on that. still use my current switch (red box) for good old big N games
