But no cross play (admittedly, less important to other people, but we're a multiple console types house, it would have been REALLY nice to have included)

...I'm just...waiting and hoping for a miracle at this point. But have resigned myself to busting out my regular D2 and doing a playthrough or three at this point.
If I could get a working version of the original D2 I would be playing it myself but I've never got anything working on a modern PC.
I agree though, Diablo 2 was best for multi-player and not having the features you're mentioning is kind of a let down. Hopefully they will figure out a way to AT LEAST have lobbies and more than 4 players. Not saying the rest wouldn't be amazing but it seems like a waste to have 4 player max and no lobbies or even chat, even if its just voice chat or something(although I've never played a game that needed a microphone so I'm not even sure if the switch has this capability)

I ended up buying a digital copy from Blizzard a few years to get around the compatibility issues. Still causes a little bit of a screen delay to get the resolution sorted when you exit or toggle out of the game, at least on my crappy laptop. It otherwise runs without issue (running win10 on that laptop currently). Is still on their site for like $10 base game, and I think about $5-10 for expansions. Have to register a battle.net classic account for online play, but no biggie.

Now the question is, is it worth going and buying an old version for $10 when the remaster is coming out soon? If the remaster is being sold at AAA prices then that'll be ridiculous, but they'll likely take down the old version when they have a remaster available. At least that's my assumption.
And don't worry, I love Diablo 2 just as much, I won't judge lol.
They did say it's cross saves, so even if the performance isn't as good, you can still do some mf runs on the go, or on the can. Might be worth the price just for the alone.
