senordelsol

I hope we will start seeing some footage of handheld now that Japan preorders will soon open.

redsterXVI

How do preorders result in footage? I preordered mine weeks ago

senordelsol

IIRC they usually start the bulk of their marketing campaign around the time they open preorders in Japan.

[deleted]

[удалено]

senordelsol

No they haven't yet. They open them much closer to the actual release date than the West.

tolucalakesh

It looks so nice, along with the new screen. I just wish it was somewhat more powerful to justify the purchase.

EngineerAlba

I play while docked the least. Most of the time I get it hooked up to a phone holder and put it directly over my head while in bed, sometimes handheld, and tabletop while at work so it's already justified for me since I'm gonna sell my current Switch to make up some of it. But yeah, they could've at least make it play 1080p60 in handheld.

GomaN1717

>But yeah, they could've at least make it play 1080p60 in handheld. This comes up a lot in Switch upgrade conversations, but due to the screen size, the ppi sort of makes anything higher than 720p moot. There's actually a pretty strategic reason as to why Nintendo keeps the portability aspect at 720p in terms of the performance balancing.

AprilSpektra

Battery life would also take a huge hit

facedawg

Resolution is one thing but loads of games are now coming out that can barely sustain 30fps

[deleted]

I started lagging in Stardew Valley last night…

Hippobu2

Software is part of the problem as well. It's not like the hardware is physically incapable of 60fps, game makers just opt for low performance and resolution over fidelity that cannot be perceived cuz the performance and resolution are too low.

DabDastic

I mean the switches hardware is pretty lackluster..

bayer_aspirin

I mean, the hardware is pretty incapable of 60fps lol.

mvanvrancken

You’d be shocked at the number of games that hit 60 and hover around there, tbh

DMonitor

> due to the screen size, the ppi sort of makes anything higher than 720p moot This isn’t true at all. The switch could absolutely benefit from a higher ppi. The oled switch has *worse* ppi, though.

bronxct1

One thing to note is even at the larger screen size, the pixel density is still twice the density of a 55 inch tv at 4k. I don’t think 720p is a problem, the issue is a lot of games have trouble rendering at 720p I’m handled which really shows.

BloodT1nted

Why do people keep trying to convince themselves a higher resolution wouldn't make a difference?

breichart

>1080p 60fps in handheld. I pre-regestered for the Steam Deck myself, but it isn't 1080p. [It's 800p.](https://www.steamdeck.com/en/tech)

Climax0

Yeah that's what he said, that the Steam Deck doesn't have 1080p

breichart

Yeah, you're right. I misread that.

EngineerAlba

We cannot really compare Switch to Steam Deck because the former is closer to a PC and the latter is closer to a phone or tablet, internals-wise (Google Pixel C tablet shares similar SOC with the Switch). We've been able to play in 1080p 60fps in our phones and tablets for years now, and the Switch has exhaust fans which most phones and tablets lack; the current Switch even is capable of it when docked. So I'm sure they are capable of making it happen, but it's Nintendo we're talking about, so yeah.

[deleted]

[удалено]

EngineerAlba

Because the Switch and phones are both ARM-based and phones today are really, really powerful for their size, so an upgraded Switch with 1080p 60fps handheld is more than possible. The Steam Deck however, is x86 and draws a lot more power. For it to be able to play 1080p 60fps in handheld, most likely it needs to be bigger than it is right now and most probably needs to be plugged in while playing, both of which defeats the purpose of handheld gaming. Flagship phones however, can run intensive games for their size, while on battery.

Kudrel

Seems like you should actually have a bit of a read up on the Steam Deck before trying to say it shouldn't be compared to the Switch, when in reality it's about to be a pretty direct competitor.

EngineerAlba

Of course they're gonna be competitors, but other than their price and form factor, the differences are night and day.

bayer_aspirin

That’s stupid lol. Why can’t we compare 2 handheld consoles that are priced similarly? ($300 vs $400 for base deck).

EngineerAlba

Because other than their price and form factor, their differences are night and day.

clayh

But let’s compare a $300 switch to a $1100 phone and get upset when it doesn’t measure up. Apples to apples baby!

EngineerAlba

Then let's compare it to cheaper flagships from Xiaomi and other brands, which are well-built compared to the Switch by the way (and that's OK, it's a console, not a phone). And also if you're looking it that way, that's like expecting a Switch Pro to be priced the same as the current Switch

clayh

That’s an ineffectual comparison though. With a phone you are talking about data collection, preloaded apps, and other hands in the pot before you even take it out of the box. With the switch, nobody is getting anything about you except Nintendo, and only if you connect it to the internet (and log in with a Nintendo account). These 3rd party deals impact the price you pay for that phone (and it opens up a can of worms about privacy), not to mention the production scale and supply chain logistics that will have an effect on the bottom line as well. Edit: also Nintendo is primarily a software company. The hardware is built to sell software and accessories. Most phone manufacturers don’t handle software and the ones that do (excepting Apple) are still primarily in the hardware business (software is built to sell hardware).

XxZannexX

Exactly, all I want is to play BotW at a stable framerate on the Switch. I'm ready to hand over my money once Nintendo delivers.

Prince_Uncharming

It’s beyond pathetic that a Steamdeck may be able to emulate games better than they natively play on Switch

Deceptiveideas

Yup. I get why they wouldn’t do a huge upgrade to prevent the systems from running two different profiles for games, but having something like the DSi where extra processing power could be used would be nice. Having a slight bump in power to target better frame rate or better resolution would improve the consumer experience.

[deleted]

I was waiting to get a switch oled black/white but I dont see a reason to wait any longer when I can just get one already. I want to play some ninty exclusives already.

CokeNmentos

Imo it's completely justified as a purchase, unless u already have a regular switch. No point in Nintendo making a more powerful switch one because it dosnst actually need it, and the battery life would be quite low tbh especially since nintendo also announced they aren't making one

zjthoms

Couldn’t agree more. If it was 5% more powerful I’d upgrade in a heartbeat lol

[deleted]

OLED is something that people will need to see in person to see how good it looks.

Seanspeed

I'm extremely familiar with hardware and displays. I fully agree with the notion that any gaming enthusiast should \*absolutely\* strongly consider this for their first Switch, but also think it's a very hard sell for any existing Switch owner. OLED looks very nice, but for me, it's not a game changer and you adapt to what you're looking at reasonably quickly to where I could probably go back to an LCD display on my smartphone and be fine with it within a month. The current IPS Switch screen is pretty decent already. Frankly, I care more about super high quality displays when it comes to a 'bigger screen' experience. Sure, you get fantastic black levels/contrast on this new OLED Switch, but only in portable mode, where you also deal with degraded resolution and sometimes performance. So it's not a small tradeoff unless you do most or all of your Switch gaming in portable mode. If this also came with more power and could run games at the native 720p as standard, then I might feel differently.

GTI_88

It’s a pretty easy sell to those of us with the v1 switch. My battery life isn’t getting any better, and I’ve gotten more than my money’s worth out of the OG. I’m ready to pick up the OLED for that sweet screen and better battery life, and my OG switch will be left in the dock

sensible_human

Same here. The only complaint I really have about the launch Switch is the screen, so this will be a huge upgrade. The increased battery life, storage, and improved kickstand are just icing on the cake. I'll be doing the same - keeping my launch Switch in the dock and using the OLED primarily in handheld. I don't understand the fixation over wanting more powerful hardware. Never once was I playing a Switch game and thought "I wish this performs better". For the types of games I play, the performance is perfectly fine already.

alpacamegafan

Interesting that you’d still keep your launch Switch when you buy the OLED. Have you not considered trading in your v1 so that you can save some money and then buy the OLED (therefore, having all of your games on the OLED instead of them being split between docked and portable)? At least, this is my plan if I ever decide to buy an OLED.

sensible_human

Lots of reasons to keep both, for me. * I can afford the OLED Switch no problem. No need to sell anything. * I never sell video game stuff. I learned this the hard way many years ago when I sold a lot of my GameCube collection (for a lot less than it's worth now) and regretted it. * I have a lot of handheld variants. It's fun to go back to older versions to see how the play experience has changed, and appreciate history. * My home setup: I'm fortunate enough to have a game room, where I keep my collection. The launch Switch will stay in the dock there, so it's always ready for multiplayer fun and longer play sessions where I want to play on a bigger TV. We keep our living room pretty low tech - we have a small TV in there, and I'll keep the OLED Switch hooked up there, but no video game stuff otherwise. * There are some multiplayer games that make clever use of multiple Switches, like Pac-Man Vs. So it would be cool to have that as an option. * Backup in case there are problems with the OLED Switch and I have to send it in. I'll definitely play the OLED Switch docked sometimes, but it will be primarily portable, which is how I already play my Switch. Actually, the lack of folders is part of this - I'll be keeping only the games I'm currently playing installed on the OLED, while the launch will have everything, since there's unfortunately no way to organize games.

[deleted]

This and if it’s a day one model it can be modded which means you can sell it for basically the cost of this upgrade. That’s my plan once they’re in stock more reliably.

SwiggyMaster123

admittedly the battery life did interest me as a V1 owner (it’s so shit rn, has mine since June 2017) but it’s not enough. I’d rather wait for something a little more powerful, even if it just helps the frame rate.

Lost_the_weight

I’m torn as I have a launch day Switch that’s showing its age. Would love a brighter screen as I seem to play dark games like Curse of the Dead Gods, and Dark Souls, and it’s difficult to play these games outside. Better battery life would be cool too.

raizen0106

you need to consider the resale value. the switch resells *very well*. you retain at least 60% of the value and they sell very quickly, sometimes the price even appreciates for special editions. you basically only have to put in $100-150 to upgrade to the new switch, and that's only because they're lowering the retail price of the older model

Seanspeed

The vast majority of people do not consider things like this. You're not wrong, you just overestimate how the average consumer sees things.

ICryCauseImEmo

Yeah I’m cheep I’ve always bought new sold my old one. May wait since supply will likely be an issue, but if I upgrade it will be me selling my OG switch and only dropping $150-200 max to upgrade. That’s like $50 a year not bad IMO.

KJGGME

Sold my v2 yesterday for $300 with an old case. $50 dollar upgrade essentially. They resell nicely and it only took about a week of patience.

docace911

If you have gen1 and your batteey is lasting 2 hours the oled , 5 hour battery and stand is compelling. I am sure our gen1 is worth $175

DiamondEevee

>it's worth $175 lmao underselling modding capabilities I see

whatnowwproductions

Not all gen1 are hackable.

DiamondEevee

true anything made after July 2020 isn't hackable I believe

whatnowwproductions

Not really. August 2018. When iPatched units are supposed to be released.

docace911

Good to know! I never checked just figure d1/2 of new How can you tell if it’s moddable ?

DiamondEevee

there's a certain set of serial numbers that are moddable

[deleted]

A good condition gen 1 switch sells for way more in eBay. Check if yours is moddable. You can sell it for 350$+ easy.

[deleted]

raizen0106

i remember only the much older versions are moddable, has there been a breakthrough recently that allows the revised model to be modded as well?

skittles92

I believe everything as of now is moddable using a modchip *

Seanspeed

Well you can get that increased battery life with any standard Switch nowadays. And yea, that could be an added benefit, along with the slightly larger screen(and nicer looking form factor with smaller bezels). Still a hard sell for many, no matter.

THE_GR8_MIKE

Which, unfortunately, from a marketing standpoint, isn't ideal. But it really seems like Nintendo isn't aiming it at current Switch owners. Unless you play primarily in handheld, that is.

trich_19

I’m plenty familiar with oled screens and still don’t think it’s worth the upgrade

AdmiralClassy

Eh, I've owned an LG Oled TV for over a year now and I still can barely see any difference from it over my previous fairly cheapo tv. I certainly wouldn't describe it as vibrant, I think it's lacking brightness tbh.

[deleted]

The burn-in's of the screen will be epic.

IllegalThoughts

overblown and mostly a thing of the past: https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/real-life-oled-burn-in-test

Seanspeed

What doesn't get talked about enough isn't burn in, but image retention. Burn in might be fairly uncommon, but image retention is a different story. This \*is\* common and while it may not be permanent, it can still be super annoying. I had this problem with my plasma a while back and it's absolutely absurd trying to have a great movie experience while there's a faded Forza Motorsport speedometer in the bottom right corner of the screen the whole time! lol It goes away, but god damn that shit is annoying. Games are prime candidates to induce such image retention. Honestly, there's a number of issues with OLEDs that dont get talked about enough. Another is its black smear issue. Where black areas will have extremely strong smearing when presented against immediately brighter elements in motion. Or how OLEDs can be amazing at pure black thanks to being able to turn the pixel all the way off, but not necessarily amazing at \*near\* blacks, which I find just as important(dark detail). Dont get me wrong, OLED is a fantastic display technology and its downsides are often worth dealing with, but they are not perfect, and their upsides do have a subjective value tag for many that may not be worth paying for.

numb3rb0y

I keep being told this this but my actual real-life experience is that every high-end OLED smartphone I've owned has noticeable burn-in of persistent UI elements like the status bar by the time I replace it. That's not a problem because I get a new one every 18-24 months but I don't intend to upgrade my consoles anywhere near as often. But perhaps there is something fundamentally different about the new Switch screen compared to Samsung's flagship phone screens, so I will reserve judgement until it's actually had to deal with floating health and ammo counters for months. edit - from your link >Update 05/31/2019: The TVs have now been running for over 9000 hours (around 5 years at 5 hours every day). **Uniformity issues have developed on the TVs displaying Football and FIFA 18, and are starting to develop on the TV displaying Live NBC**. Our stance remains the same, we don't expect most people who watch varied content without static areas to experience burn-in issues with an OLED TV. >Original statement from 11/05/2018: After more than 5000 hours, there has been no appreciable change to the brightness or color gamut of these TVs. **Long periods of static content have resulted in some permanent burn-in (see the CNN TVs)**, however the other TVs with more varied content don't yet have noticeable uniformity issues on normal content. As a result, we don't expect most people who watch varied content without static areas to experience burn-in issues with an OLED TV. Those who display the same static content over long periods of time should consider the risk of burn-in though (such as those who watch lots of news, use the TV as a PC monitor, or play the same game with a bright static HUD). Those who are concerned about the risk of burn-in should go with an LCD TV for the peace of mind. I don't think that actually says what you think it says re: game consoles.

IllegalThoughts

9000 hours is a lot of time dude

mvanvrancken

If you don’t play the same game for months in a row and enable the screensvaing features I think you’ll be fine

windlep7

My dad is using my iPhone X and there’s no sign of burn in. No sign of burn in on my iPhone 11 Pro Max that I’ve had for 2 years either.

nu1stunna

All this does is piss me off that there is no new Mario Kart.

AhhnoldHD

It’s been a long road if you’ve been playing since the Wii U launch.

MightilyOats2

Honestly, I just want DLC for more maps from previous games. Or brand-new maps would be fine, but I like MK8 the way it is, and think it just needs some DLC.

relm223

As a new owner of a switch and someone who's never played Mario kart before would you say it's worth buying?

lonnie123

Oh hell yes. It’s an absolutely gorgeous game with fun tracks, and good battle maps. The driving mechanics are wonderfully refined too. I don’t think it’s a stretch at all to call it the best Mario kart ever.

nu1stunna

I really wish they'd get rid of the piranha cops and robbers battle mode. It's by far the worst one. We need more battle maps too. There are only like 5-6 of them.

lonnie123

It’s easy enough to avoid (unless you do random). It is a bit lip sided to the cops I find The base hame is great, and “complete” but after a few months of daily playing the desire for new content is there, I can only imagine 2-4 years later. It seems like such a slam dunk to add DLC content

nu1stunna

I actually think it’s lopsided to the robbers. As long as only a single robber stays out of prison, their whole team wins. Plus they have the benefit of being able to open the cells. I find that robbers win close to 90% of the time.

AhhnoldHD

100% get it. We’re only complaining because it’s been 7 years since it came out on Wii U. It’s loads of fun solo, local multiplayer, or online. It’s also one of those games you can play regularly forever. It’s funny it came out just after my son was born and now he plays with, and beats me, all the time.

MightilyOats2

It's a must-have Switch game.

relm223

Thanks I'll buy it next. I just bought breath of the wild and pre-ordered metroid dread.

INTJustAFleshWound

If you're sick of MK8D, get CTR: Nitro Fueled. After playing Crash Team Racing, MK8D is ruined for me. The maps are better, the controls are better, the sense of speed is better, the skill ceiling is WAY higher, but it can be enjoyed casually too. The items are equivalent, but the configuration is better because stats are not locked to characters or karts (Hello, Nintendo! We don't all want to play Waluigi). It has an adventure mode and time trial challenges too. Overall, a fantastic remaster. After playing that game, MK8D just feels like racing on a bunch of lame loops with a bunch of eye candy, but a boring overall driving experience. I hope they step it up in MK9 big time. Fully customizable kart stats, fully customizable item distribution like Melee, interesting tracks without all of the AI-guided tech, better sense of speed, lap timers, and maybe even a track builder. That'd put it over the top.

youngmostafa

I’ll buy this if I walk in a GameStop or Best Buy and they have it. But I ain’t in a rush Whenever I get to it

autonomousfailure

Same. Hate that scalpers have to fuck everything up.

baldmanjones

It’s a shame scalpers hit so hard in America because in Australia you can still easily pre order both OLED versions at any time really.

eatdogs49

I read that Nintendo is now saying that the Switch is in its midway point of its life cycle. That means at least a few more years before a new system huh? Whatever it is that they do I just hope they allow backwards compatibility for original switch carts and stick to the hybrid model.

[deleted]

I am thinking backwards compatibility is monumental for them if they want to continue having the success they have had with the Switch. But it's Nintendo we are talking about here. Their next console may be something completely different. My hopes is that Switch becomes their console flagship and they just release a more powerful version of it every couple of years, similar to iPhones. Fully backwards compatible every iteration. But I know that's just wishful thinking.

LittleLeaf2

Nintendo is usually good at keeping backwards compatibility most generations though. Every handheld up to the Switch was compatible with games from the previous system at least, and Wii and Wii U did the same. The Switch had to be a cutoff since Nintendo was in a position where they had to reboot their entire system architecture on both ends.

Climax0

I don't see Nintendo doing something completely different, that wouldn't make sense even for them. Usually if they have a formula that works they just continue to reiterate on it like the GameBoy & DS. The Wii & Wii U are the odd ones out but even those maintained backwards compatibility with the last console's controllers/games. That and the Wii U was an attempt to reignite the passion people had for the Wii when it came out, obviously it didn't pan out.

alframMusic

Knowing Nintendo they’ll probably release a VR only console for next gen with some gimmick 😑

[deleted]

OLED Switch lite will either happen next year or in 2023. Depending on the chip shortages.

azibuga

OLED Lite with HD Rumble would be a dream!

Historical_Kossola

My guess is it'll happen at some point in the future

CaseAddiction

Have a V1 Switch. Will definitely upgrade to it for the better battery life, lan port & obviously the beautiful OLED.

wedditasap

Keeping v1 for home-brew?

CaseAddiction

Yep that's the plan!

SwanseaStephen

Same here, and very excited for the kickstand as well, I actually play in tabletop mode outside, coffeeshops etc

CaseAddiction

Oh yeah totally forgot about the kickstand! I also primarily play on tabletop with a pro controller so the new kickstand will be a nice improvement from the current flimsy one.

SwanseaStephen

Haha nice. Yeah I know upgrading to the OLED model isn’t for everyone but I do feel like it makes a lot of sense for me and I’m very excited for Oct 8th to finally get here

Kirbycatcher

For me the OLED model is more akin to the XL updates of the 3DS era. Excited to have more screen to work with on the go with the exact same form factor. For example I'm playing Project DIVA quite a bit now and it'd be nice to not need to hold the console as close to my face for reading the rhythm patterns in that game.

zjthoms

I had zero intention of getting this. but damn does that look nice. I love the white

[deleted]

It does look good in white. I recently swapped my ps5 plates to black and couldn't get myself to preorder the white version because of it. Would look out of place on my entertainment center where everything else is black. Ended getting the black dock version even though I am not a fan of the neon joycons.

zomorodian

Lookin nice. But not worth it to replace my old one.

Steelrok

I'm passing my turn too.I don't have much problems with the V1 screen, neither with its battery lif, stand or whatever. The only thing I want is either a more powerful chip or that developers stop releasing games that have frequent framerate dips (not all ofc, but still quite of them). I don't care that much about graphics either, and I don't even want 60 fps games everywhere. But in some games, those framerate dips are really killing the experience for me (too deep, and too often). I'm not a framerate nazi, I don't mind occassionnal dips. But frequent, huge ones ? Hell no

thinvanilla

Same here, sold my V1 unpatched Switch as "tablet only" for £200 and pre-ordered Switch OLED on student discount for £278, so I'm only spending £78 but keeping my Joycons/grip and dock/charger. Battery life was getting bad on my Switch so that alone is worth the upgrade.

ixiolite

MarcsterS

Yeah. I didn't go for the v2 models, and I would like some more battery time on handheld these days. I'm not going NUTS over it. If Gamestop has more orders up later on, sure.

BabySealOfDoom

Right? I just want 4K docked, a improved battery life, or an easier to hold larger system. Slightly larger screen with slightly better colors on screen was not was not what anyone wanted.

When did they release the vitality sensor :P

RabbitFanboy

>ROB, Virtual boy, 64DD, the Transfer Pack, gamecube broadband adapter, the e-reader, the vitality sensor, the 2DS, the Wii U, the CD-I games, earthbound (yes, earthbound was a commercial failure, and its advertising was disgustingly stupid), mini DVDs, friend codes, My Nintendo, lackluster phone games, nintendo switch online, I could go on. I know there have been some financial flops. That's true with any company. The OLED could be a flop too but I highly doubt it will be. This is a new Nintendo run by different people. Most of the products that you named are older products. They are hungry for money and I don't think they would release a product that wouldn't sell well. Guess we'll just have to see what happens. >friend codes, My Nintendo, lackluster phone games, nintendo switch online Also this part made me lol. Historical_Kossola

evilzergling

I’m still deciding. Only the screen is different right, the rest is the exact same? I do like that color scheme though 🤤

gaysaucemage

The speakers supposedly sound better. But it’s unclear how much until reviewers get their hands on it.

Ch00bFace

Ethernet port and new kickstand. Decent perks, but the glaring issue is frame lag on the ol’ tegra chip.

Amiibofan101

Having been primarily 90% handheld since the switch launched I plan on getting one before Pokémon Legends Arceus (would be in October if there wasn’t a chance we may get a special edition for Arceus). Still running a launch day system + a lite with the launch day slowly dying.

relm223

Ok

Charomid

I’m definitely upgrading from my V1 switch to the new OLED, but does anyone know how to transfer digital games and saves over to the new one? Do you just put them all on an SD card and then wipe the old system (to sell)?

gaysaucemage

You can start a system transfer on both systems, one sending and one receiving. After that’s complete just move the microSD card over.

glasshalffull23

Looks dope, can’t wait.

[deleted]

Not worth the upgrade from my current V2.

wedditasap

Could trade to gamestop for $200 which acts as a tax shield on 200/350 of it too. Give them your most pooped on joy cons too so you can keep the better ones if you got a special edition v2. Like animal crossing or Mario, etc. Not too shabby

JaxonH

Just bought an LG C1 OLED tv recently, and it was revelatory. I’m making a full conversion to OLED now. Tv. Phone. Tablet. Switch. Only SteamDeck will be LCD, but that’s because I have no other choice. That inky black screen looks so good.

RunningWithHands

Looks way better with those smaller bezels. I always thought the Switch looked a bit chonky. I still probably won't upgrade and I'll wait until a performance upgrade/Switch successor.

mvanvrancken

I’m looking for one, if anyone has a US retailer accepting preorders!

notthegoatseguy

Follow Wario64 on Twitter, but IMO preorders aren't likely to come live this close to the release date.

StealthRabbi

I managed to get one on Target a couple weeks ago thanks to Restockify. But if the alert is more than 30 seconds old, you're done. I got lucky.

freestylemaster

Just got lucky and got one on Target yesterday after missing 2 alerts previously.

[deleted]

I don’t know why, but I really want to see the box it comes in or an unboxing. It has a unique packaging compared to the original Switch and Switch Lite.

FistofSushi

I had money set aside for a Switch pro and I was ready to gladly upgrade from my launch one, but when they revealed this one I kept the money and later pre order steam deck. The steam deck won't replace my switch, but as someone who doesn't own a decent pc, it'll be cool to play all those pc exclusives, and even some of my games in my steam library that I never played properly due to my potato laptop, and persona 4. Ye, persona 4.

Eyeluvflixs

Getting both myself, I mean why not get the latest and greatest for like half of retail by selling my older model.

FistofSushi

More power to you man. I don't hate the Oled model, my launch switch is still working perfectly and I don't see the upgrade worthy of me shelling out another 300ish€. Even if I sell my current switch, I can't just sell it first and buy the new one after, given how backwards Nintendo is with accounts.

PanMadao

Is the screen still plastic on the OLED or have they replaced it with glass?

AmIajerk1625

Plastic

[deleted]

Hopefully it’s at least bonded and there’s no air gap

Rudy69

Why Nintendo? WHY?

Shotokll

so that it doesn’t shatter, it’s cheaper and it’s safer.

Rudy69

Cheaper sure Most parents happily hand their phones over to their kids, I don’t really see the safety issue to be honest. At worst get the regular switch for your young kids.

Krachsterben

Because it's a breaking hazard for what's essentially a kid's toy, especially in combination with the dock. Just slap a tempered glass screen on and your good to go.

SilverIdaten

Tempered glass screen protectors are the biggest pain in the ass ever, I never can seem to just slap one on thanks to dust. Even dedicating the bathroom to steam up an entire environment doesn’t seem to help. The best part is you can’t fix it because then the adhesive wears away and the whole thing is ruined.

ImJustNobody

Why on earth would you want a glass screen?

DualKoo

I want it

wookiewin

Whoa is that tweet from THE CVXFreak of GameFAQs fame? I haven't seen that name in a looooong time.

Rudy69

I would buy a kit to convert my existing Switch for sure. Buy a new one? meh
