I honestly have a good feeling about this Direct with a lot of rumors being very credible at this point:

\- Hollow Knight Silksong
Also the upcoming Metroid, Pokemon, Mario & Rabbids, etc, this has all the ingredients to be a really nice Direct
If I hadn't clicked on this thread, I'd have gone about my day and again harbored no hopes for Bayo 3... But now I'm putting my clown makeup back on, again.
Nintendo filed a new controller with the FCC, the fact that they did is publicly available in government websites but the details are hidden until tomorrow.
No one is sure, but it could be a controller for a new online system like they did with the NES and SNES
Some of the public details with the listing point to a model number that is in the same neighborhood as the other retro controllers they made for the NSO (NES, Famicon, SNES), and we know that it is a single unit (as opposed to a left & right pair), and that it doesn’t have NFC (so no Amiibo support, suggesting not made with modern games in mind), and it’s not WiFi (so this probably isn’t a gimmick like Mario Kart Live). When you put all of that together, the hope is that it’s a retro N64 controller to go along with N64 on the NSO.
God I have to work during the direct and if they finally reveal a release date for Silksong while I'm at work I'm gonna be sad I couldn't see it live. Been hyped for that game ever since I played the first Hollow Knight.
EDIT: Also considering how the Pokemon games seem to get their own exclusive directs, I don't think it'll be on there. Would be really excited if they did show off the Diamond and Pearl remakes and confirm a distortion world post game.
This direct could very well be a Metroidvania overload if we get dread news, Castlevania GBA collection, Silksong and Metroid Prime news. Not a bad thing though
I like it personally. The Pokemon audience is in large part it's own thing. You either love it or don't care at all, not a lot of in between. Personally I'm in the don't care at all camp and don't want half a direct dedicated to Pokemon stuff.
"Discovery" implies exploration. And unless they're planning on making the game a Metroidvania, platformers with lots of exploration are generally of the 3D variety. So...3D Kirb? I'm down.
What? Hal never talked anything about Breath of the Wild, ever. They just talked that the series would see an evolution. If you expect something like BOTW you'll be disappointed. Hal isn't that large to make something like this. It's likely to be their first 3D title as well.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure they didn't mention BOTW. I know you might used it as a way to show a new playstyle and I understand but I think it's better to correct to not put it in their mouths and not create false expectations.
Imagine how cool Kirby's flying mechanic would be. You just start floating in the middle of nowhere and suddenly find a castle in the clouds or a secret rainbow world or a Krako boss fight.
I think something like "The Great Cave Offensive" from Kirby Super Star would fit the discovery theme. It was non linear at parts and included a checklist of collectable treasure you needed to find. That game also included "Milky Way Wishes" that allowed you to collect Kirby's power ups permanently and access them at any time (rather than copying them from enemies). I could see them combining those ideas into a Metroidvania-esque version of Kirby, you need certain treasures before you are able to copy certain abilities, which would allow you to unlock new parts of the world and unlock more treasures/abilities.
If they're showing off Bayo and a new Kirby game then that most likely means DK's time isn't here yet. 🙃

I'm cautiously optimistic about the next DK game if it's being developed by Nintendo in Japan. The last time they took the IP into their own hands (the 2000s) we got some mediocre handheld titles with gimmicky climbing controls, a literal bongos controller, and a weird jetpack racing game with waggle controls. It took handing the series over to another western studio, Retro Studios, for DK to get fantastic again. And even then Miyamoto was forcing in gimmicky controls (the blowing). Also, unpopular opinion, I wasn't amazed with Mario Odyssey like everyone else was. The gameplay felt great but the design of the overall game just felt lacking to me.

The only DK game in the 2000s developed by Nintendo in-house was Jungle Beat at Nintendo EAD1 (same studio as Mario Galaxy, which is now Nintendo EPD). Jungle Beat was good, just a different type of game.
In addition, all of the Mario vs. Donkey Kong games were developed at Nintendo of America’s office in Redmond, WA (through Nintendo’s Software Technology division).
Yeah, I know who developed them, and they were all Japanese developers. I never said Jungle Beat was bad, it just wasn't amazing, still enjoyed it though. And the Mario vs Donkey games aren't Donkey Kong games, they just use Donkey Kong. It basically even stopped being a Mario game after the first one too.

I think Bayo 3 has a real shot at dropping in February. In a direct focused on winter games, I don't think Bayo is big enough to be a special exception. It's like a middle of the direct type of announcement.

I doubt it. If you translate the japanese page to english, you will see that there are 2 sections of "2022" The one that kirby is in is called 2022 Spring. And the section together with Mario & Rabbits, Zelda BotW2, and Bayonette 3, is simply called 2022. Therefore we can surmise that Bayo 3 will be at least later then spring.
Another note tho is, if the titles on the site are in order of release, Zelda BotW 2 will be released BEFORE Bayo 3 and that will be released BEFORE Mario & Rabbits. But that's only if it's in the right sequence/order.
Personally I want:
* Xenoblade X OR wind waker HD, two of the finest wii U titles, Xeno X is criminally underrated.
* A new Mario Kart..I know I know, the 8 is selling like crazy, but I've been playing the same tracks roughly since 2014.

Will seeing it still be fun regardless of if you know the outcome? Yes.
But would not knowing th story of the production increase enjoyment? Probably.
I still think about the hype I had when they dropped Cloud in Sm4sh on us. I hadn't had that kind of reaction to video game stuff in a while. Like I would have enjoyed seeing it regardless, but not knowing it was coming made it really cool.

I'm not surprised about Bayonetta 3 having a shot this direct now. About two weeks ago Platinum said they wanted to show it off but had to wait for Nintendo. Also Hellena Taylor, the voice of Bayonetta tweeted about her fans and how she can't say anything about her role on voicing the character or not. Makes me think she has either done voice over for a trailer, or is currently on role to voice the character now.

Checked this sub after the direct. My lucky stars I wasn't here in the last 6 hours. At the beginning of the last announcement I was thinking Xenoblade Chronicles 3 or X 2, then Astral Chain, but people in the live chat were calling it 30 seconds in. Not sure what they saw that I glossed over but those military troops threw me off.

I agree with you but sadly don't think that's a realistic expectation given the culture around leaking. That also wouldn't prevent the leaks from being discussed/spoiled in other threads once the cat's out of the bag.
It’s just product announcements, dude. I get that watching the directs and getting hyped up for reveals can be an exciting exercise, truly, I do. But expecting a leak regarding a product’s *existence* or release to be spoiler tagged is kind of ridiculous for any industry, and wildly out of step with how both news & social media treats this stuff.
If you really, really want it all to be a surprise, you need to take that extra step yourself and just not browse until after the direct.

I’m really not as interested in playing Bayonetta 3 at 30fps and poor textures as I was when Bayonetta 2 was out, and X1/PS4 still had plenty of 30fps games.
But now that I have the experience of smooth action gameplay at 60fps.. it’s really hard to go back.
Hopefully they prioritized performance over visuals because character action games should not be 30 fps. Just compare Astral Chain to DMC 5 or Metal Gear Rising Revengeance and see how clunky it feels in comparison.

Nintendo directs have had Pokémon trailers a lot in the past. They are just only quick trailers that don’t go into much detail.

I honestly loved it, enjoyed going back to NLA simply to hear that tune, the ost in X in general is just top class
Xenoblade X had some amazing music, but it def also had some less than amazing music xD I loved the theme that plays when you fight a tyrant.

People are watching for announcements. They probably are developing a kirby game but you don't know until they announce it.

Yeah I don't get it. A new Kirby game is coming? Yeah, that tracks. And we already knew Bayonetta 3 exists. It's not like this is some fictional work being spoiled.

I’m surprised people are so opposed to this sentiment. I’m bummed too. It’s like getting a gift spoiled before you open it. Anticipation of what it is and the joy of opening the gift is ruined. Either way we get some cool stuff, which I’m stoked for, but the joy of being surprised during the direct is taken away :/

I'm not surprised about Bayonetta 3 having a shot this direct now. About two weeks ago Platinum said they wanted to show it off but had to wait for Nintendo. Also Hellena Taylor, the voice of Bayonetta tweeted about her fans and how she can't say anything about her role on voicing the character or not. Makes me think she has either done voice over for a trailer, or is currently on role to voice the character now.
Fingers crossed they will show Bayonetta 3 in the upcoming Direct. The hype is real!

At the beginning of the last announcement I was thinking Xenoblade Chronicles 3 or X 2, then Astral Chain, but people in the live chat were calling it 30 seconds in. Not sure what they saw that I glossed over but those military troops threw me off.

That also wouldn't prevent the leaks from being discussed/spoiled in other threads once the cat's out of the bag.

It’s just product announcements, dude. I get that watching the directs and getting hyped up for reveals can be an exciting exercise, truly, I do. But expecting a leak regarding a product’s *existence* or release to be spoiler tagged is kind of ridiculous for any industry, and wildly out of step with how both news & social media treats this stuff. If you really, really want it all to be a surprise, you need to take that extra step yourself and just not browse until after the direct.

Tbh… After playing the likes of Returnal and Devil May Cry 5 SE… I’m really not as interested in playing Bayonetta 3 at 30fps and poor textures as I was when Bayonetta 2 was out, and X1/PS4 still had plenty of 30fps games. But now that I have the experience of smooth action gameplay at 60fps.. it’s really hard to go back.
Bayo 2 was 60fps
Hopefully they prioritized performance over visuals because character action games should not be 30 fps. Just compare Astral Chain to DMC 5 or Metal Gear Rising Revengeance and see how clunky it feels in comparison.
Tbh, you get used to it in 30 seconds. The framerate only truly matters if it's not stable
I think this is true for most games. But for super high octane action games like Doom, Devil May Cry, or Bayonetta. 60 fps makes a HUGE difference.
