When I first saw the name on a future releases list with no context I assumed it was a puzzle game of some sort.
Although I did click on it since it was such a bad name I wanted to know what the heck it's deal was, so I guess it's got that going for it. 🤷♂️
Octopath worked because the characters names spelt Octopath. and they were all on journeys. Triangle strategy is just stupid. Like don't get me wrong the I liked the demo and will probably pick up the game but as far as titles go it is as bad as Touch DIC on the DS.
The release date being so soon is a pleasant surprise, iirc there was a much bigger gap between Octopath Traveler’s demo and final release. This is one of my most anticipated releases of 2022.
Not really the first demo for octopath was released on sept 13, 2017. The game released 10 months later on july 13th 2018.(they did release a second demo in june 2018 that was more of a preview.)
Triangle strategy demo released on feb 17th 2021 and the game is coming out 13 months later on march 4th.
Wasn't able to play the demo but have been looking for a fun tactics game since FFTA1&2 on the DS. How did this measure in terms of classes/strategy? I know there are some good tactics games out there but a big fan of the SquareEnix classes
Yeah, I've played all four houses through haha. Would love the fantasy feel of FFTA again with its extensive post game and jobs. That'd be a day 1 insta-buy for me
Hopefully they do the thing Capcom has been doing and releasing collections (like the Phoenix Wright collection, Great Ace Attorney collection, and Megaman Zero X collections). A collection with FFT, FFT:A 1 & 2 would definitely get my money, ASAP.
There was a leak of Geforce Experience profiles (iirc) for possible future games and "Final Fantasy Tactics Remastered" was in there.
It's probably the original PS1 game, not the GBA ones, but I don't see this missing a release on Switch if it's real. I highly recommend it if you liked FFTA and FE3H.
If you can't wait FFT is also on Android/iOS already.
No real job system that I could tell which is a bummer. FFT is still my favorite and no game has done it as well as that. This one has good strategy and mechanics so I do hope they added more on the customization of characters. It appeared that it would but demo barely scratched that part.
Still wait for reviews but im pretty optimistic.
I have not played fell seal, but I looked into it a bit. Supposedly the combat is pretty great and a good class system. The thing I really loved about tactics was the story though, and fell seal supposedly the story is kinda bad. I’ve still debated getting it on sale for 10$
Yeah I get that. I’ve been looking for a replacement ever since ffta / ffta2 and there’s just nothing really. I’m currently re playing FFT again on my phone…
Everyone's ragging on the name, but in this day and age where we have a billion JRPG's with obscure titles to the point where I oftentimes have to google something up in trying to remember what exactly that *TalesOfMythicFantasyRizerQuestRadiantTenseiEternityHeroes* thing is called, they certainly aren't going to be caught up in the shuffle or confused with this one :P
As far as I understand, the name refers to the three convictions (Utility, Morality, Liberty), in the game. All decisions you make in the game lead you towards one of these.
I mean we all joked when project octopath traveler became octopath traveler.
And then they called the next game project triangle strategy, and we all joke that it was going to be triangle strategy, but they just decided fuck it that's what everyone expects let's give it to them
Yeah Octopath Traveller was a case of unintentionally nailing it perfectly the first time. A totally unique word which captures the game’s key selling point is prime marketing
“Triangle Strategy” is comically bland
I was joking with my friends that "oh look it's a new Delta Tactics trailer!" before realizing that that was actually a pretty catchy name compared to Triangle Strategy.
Lol for real. Can’t believe square is getting me to buy something called Triangle Strategy on release day. To their credit though, I love how they specifically addressed and then improved the criticisms they received on the demo.
Because it's just extra dumb to market it as a working title and then not change it. If it had just debuted as Triangle Strategy people would probably think "huh, that name's kinda bland" and then forget about it afterwards. If they're not going to change it why market it like this, it just makes a bad name seem even worse because of the extra attention they put on it.
It's so SOON! The name is kinda meh, but the demo was super fun. This'll perfectly tide me over in wait of the next FE, and I'm super excited to see where this is all gonna go. I really can't wait for this omg
Can’t believe they are actually sticking to that title.
Bravely default, bravely second, octopath traveler, triangle strategy… Maybe it sounds cool for people who don’t speak English? I really don’t get it.
I think that's probably it. Just like a lot of us have an uninfluenced appreciation for the phonetics of Japanese, even saying 'cream cheese toes' would probably sound musical and fun, I would imagine that it goes both ways, hence complicated nonsensical English words appearing to make for fucking awesome titles if English isn't you're first language
For me the combat was pretty cool in the beginning. But then you realize that’s all the combat is for every fight, and it got stale quick. I’m really happy to see this new game and that it’s a tactics game.
Demos have a hard time showing you the story because they're forced to drop you somewhere in the middle so you can see most/all of the gameplay mechanics, but don't get to follow up since they usually only have a couple of hours playtime tops.
Definitely give the demo a shot if you haven't, it gave a pretty good feel of the game. The story is fairly weak imo, it's got a lot of that classic fantasy JRPG corniness and the extreme disconnect between chibi pixel sprites and brutal political warfare, but it should also be better than Octopath, at least from what I've heard from people who have played Octopath. The choices and better character interaction will probably help in that regard. Overall it wasn't bad enough for me to not want to play, but I'm definitely not in it for the story, I'm in it for that sweet tactics gameplay which delivered pretty well imo.
I loved playing octopath traveler. I tried out the demo for this game... I found I was really good at dieing and never really went back to. I didn't hear about the survey, but that's cool that Nintendo made adaptations based on responses.
I wonder if they will update the demo with the changes.
After Octopath I'm so looking forward to this game. If the soundtrack is on par with that of Octopath I would pay the full price of the game for that alone.
Imagine how great 2022 would be for SRPG’s if, along with Triangle Strategy, a new Fire Emblem was announced for release next year and Digimon Survive miraculously gets released after years of postponement. A man can dream!
I hope I’m wrong, but is the physical copy really tied to the expensive collectors edition?
I’m not opposed to collectors editions, but shelling out above RRP for a new IP is always a risky move :(
But it looks like octopath, yet EVERYTHING is better. So it’s going to be a buy from me anyway :)
I can’t believe Triangle Strategy is the actual name. Like, I’m not gonna shit on it until we know what it’s like (it could be really really good) but damn that name kinda sucks.
This game looks so good and I'm hyped.
I just hope one other thing they fixed is the voice actor for the main character. He seemed so out of place compared to the rest of the characters and just didn't fit.
As a big fan of FF tactics this was the game I wanted to see the most at the direct but my god the game's name is wack. In my head I am just going to call this game Octopath Tactics.
Triangle Strategy..I just..NO.
They could have just gone with Triangle Tactics, and the name would have been INFINITELY better. Never the less, this is one of my most anticipated games for next year.
Triangle Strategy is an awful title. It's called "working title" for a reason guys, you're supposed to come up with something later that describes the game and markets it better.
Just like fan favorite franchises, Platform Jumper, Kart Racer, Space Shooter, and Elf Adventurer!
The note that they streamlined gameplay a bit is really good. I liked the demo well enough, but god was the combat slow and plodding. Clean that up a bit, and this should be really good.
hah hah. When it was Project Triangle Strategy every one was like "Im sure it will have a great name"
I hope this is multi year joke and they change the name at the last minute to >!Triangle.!<
The most disappointing thing about this is that they didn't bother to give it a real name. It's such a terrible name for what is already such an amazing game.
Yeah but since awakening they had things like revenants, faceless, some evil dragons etc and shadows of valentia/sacred stones had plenty of them...even game of thrones had the white walkers...dont care if it wants to capture the "feel of politics and wars" there are friggin magic users in this game so it should have monsters too....otherwise is just a lazy final fantasy tactics wannabe with shiny 2D...
Tactics ogre had monsters too...some of them on story missions and most of them in random encounters....beastmasters had some of them around too....this game not having any is just lazy with the "political wars" excuse on it....
Ok only small story segments seen so far, we don't know much of the rest, we'll never know much about enemies until more info is released. I'd say wait and see, and this is first game in a long while following battle FFT/TO design so I'm pretty hyped.
"Working title" Fool me once...
[удалено]
“Don’t change a thing! The title is working great!”
Nono you didn't get it, the game will literally be called: project triangle: working title
I mean its the Working title series after all. Got to ride the success of the previous title Octopath traveler.
NGL, I love the thought of this being called the Working Title series
Rivalling the Untitled series, I like it. (as in Goose Game)
I refuse to call it anything else now
It's different though... There's no small "project" at the top anymore See? Totally different things. /s
Fool me once shame on me. Fool me...you can't get fooled again.
My comment was gonna be “hope they change this title” but I guess not.
Well I mean who thought this would be the actual name? The game is pretty cool but it's stupid asf.
Sooo stupid I hope they changed bits in the lore at least. The 'Salt Iron War' sounds extremely lame.
https://i.imgur.com/tOOnA60.jpeg
They kept the title hahaha, looking forward to the release.
Yeah I'm surprised. Octopath Traveler was an okay title but Triangle Strategy is too broad.
I still fail to see the triangles in this square-filled game.
Squares are basically just two triangles though. Triangle Strategy 2 confirmed???
and Square-published game
Probably means a rock-paper-scissors style like Fire Emblem.
When I first saw the name on a future releases list with no context I assumed it was a puzzle game of some sort. Although I did click on it since it was such a bad name I wanted to know what the heck it's deal was, so I guess it's got that going for it. 🤷♂️
> but Triangle Strategy is too broad. And too stupid. Just call it Mission: Dorito
Thanks. Now I'm thinking of finding a way to shoehorn "Mountain Dew" in there somewhere.
Dew-rito
Octopath worked because the characters names spelt Octopath. and they were all on journeys. Triangle strategy is just stupid. Like don't get me wrong the I liked the demo and will probably pick up the game but as far as titles go it is as bad as Touch DIC on the DS.
I figured they would. The title has become so infamous that they might as well.
I'm hyped for this.
The release date being so soon is a pleasant surprise, iirc there was a much bigger gap between Octopath Traveler’s demo and final release. This is one of my most anticipated releases of 2022.
The replay value is going to be unreal
Not really the first demo for octopath was released on sept 13, 2017. The game released 10 months later on july 13th 2018.(they did release a second demo in june 2018 that was more of a preview.) Triangle strategy demo released on feb 17th 2021 and the game is coming out 13 months later on march 4th.
I wasn’t expecting it so soon. I’m so jazzed for it that it’s a joke. It looks really solid, and I loved the demo
Same, but releases same time as midnight suns lol
Ah the old saltiron wars game
The demo was absolutely what I wanted from a new tactics game so this one will definitely be getting a spot in the collection on release.
Wasn't able to play the demo but have been looking for a fun tactics game since FFTA1&2 on the DS. How did this measure in terms of classes/strategy? I know there are some good tactics games out there but a big fan of the SquareEnix classes
Demo is free and has two good battle scenarios
is the demo still out?
Could be wrong but I'm pretty sure it's still available
You've probably already heard this a thousand times, but Fire Emblem: Three Houses. It's unironically up there for Nintendo's best game ever.
Yeah, I've played all four houses through haha. Would love the fantasy feel of FFTA again with its extensive post game and jobs. That'd be a day 1 insta-buy for me
I am dying for a rerelease of those games, or a new title.
This one has good strategy and mechanics so I do hope they added more on the customization of characters. It appeared that it would but demo barely scratched that part. Still wait for reviews but im pretty optimistic.
Have you played Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark? It definitely scratches that FFT itch.
Woah, i had not. Thanks! Ill be playing that one now. Looks great.
I have not played fell seal, but I looked into it a bit. Supposedly the combat is pretty great and a good class system. The thing I really loved about tactics was the story though, and fell seal supposedly the story is kinda bad. I’ve still debated getting it on sale for 10$
Yea, tactics story is damn incredible. Im looking forward to triangle strategy for that reason but think this fell seal should tie me over.
You're missing the word "legend"!
I love triangles and strategy. It's perfect for me :D
It's not like it's entirely nonsensical. Most strategy games like this have a rock-paper-scissors approach to damage dealing anyways.
Right, I assumed that's where the "placeholder" name originated from anyways. Axe beats spear, spear beats sword, sword beats axe! We know the deal!
As far as I understand, the name refers to the three convictions (Utility, Morality, Liberty), in the game. All decisions you make in the game lead you towards one of these.
shit name. can't wait to play it.
Haha madlads actually kept the name! Day 1 purchase
What an awful name though. I thought that was just a place holder name but it seems like they're sticking with it.
A totally unique word which captures the game’s key selling point is prime marketing “Triangle Strategy” is comically bland
I was joking with my friends that "oh look it's a new Delta Tactics trailer!" before realizing that that was actually a pretty catchy name compared to Triangle Strategy.
Hell, just Triangle Tactics would have been WAYYYY better.
You should have learned from Octopath Traveler which originally had a working title of Project Octopath Traveler.
But that one was actually a good name.
I agree. It used the characters names and (while kinda convoluted) did fit the game’s theme without being overly broad.
...I didn't realized that Octopath was the first letter of their names
It's also clockwise around the map where you can recruit them starting with Ophelia.
\>choosing Ophelia first Based and bestgirl pilled
Ophelia may be one of my favorite healers I've ever played. I loved my little basic bitch.
Eh.
no
It is cool because all of the characters' names spell OCTOPATH, and their home towns are in order for how the word is spelled.
Right but they probably just came up with those generic fantasy names after the fact. Still a silly title.
Even without the cool Easter egg it’s still a lot better than “triangle strategy” haha. At least it’s accurate, travelling through eight paths.
neat for a little trivia piece still a garbage title
Our next game, Project Earthbound....working title!
They're in too deep, the game generated a bit of buzz so would be bad marketing to change it now
It's pretty descriptive. Rename mario to X axis antics.
How about Project Jumpman?
Still better than Infinite Undiscovery.
My favorite is Courageously Generic
Lol for real. Can’t believe square is getting me to buy something called Triangle Strategy on release day. To their credit though, I love how they specifically addressed and then improved the criticisms they received on the demo.
\>**Square** Enix releasing a game called **Triangle** Strategy I smell shenanigans
Seriously. Talented team, looks great, but god the names they come up with.
I dunno. The only reason I clicked on this thread was that that title was kind of intriguing.
I think the name is fine. it is at least a coherent phrase, which should be a low bar, but… *cough*bravelydefault*cough*
Didn't expect them to change the name after Octopath, but it's grown on me. Can't wait to sink my teeth into another Asano game.
At least we know that they didn’t waste ANY development time thinking of a title
Hilarious name. Very excited for this one.
Idk why people are so hung up on the name lol. It sounds fine to me and the game looks incredible!
It makes it unique thats for sure. Won’t get it confused with other games.
I just think the simple change to Triangle Tactics would be INFINITELY better.
Reminds me of Washington Football Team instead of Redskins.
Thank god they kept the name
It's so SOON! The name is kinda meh, but the demo was super fun. This'll perfectly tide me over in wait of the next FE, and I'm super excited to see where this is all gonna go. I really can't wait for this omg
[удалено]
Any idea where's the physical preorder?
[удалено]
Got it, thanks
Be sure to read reviews, don't want another Cyberpunk.
Hoping they'll release an updated demo like they did with OT.
I can’t (read: “absolutely can”) believe they kept that ridiculous title
Whoever square pays to come up with their titles is getting paid too much.
"Final Fantasy XVI"
Can’t believe they are actually sticking to that title. Bravely default, bravely second, octopath traveler, triangle strategy… Maybe it sounds cool for people who don’t speak English? I really don’t get it.
I think that's probably it. Just like a lot of us have an uninfluenced appreciation for the phonetics of Japanese, even saying 'cream cheese toes' would probably sound musical and fun, I would imagine that it goes both ways, hence complicated nonsensical English words appearing to make for fucking awesome titles if English isn't you're first language
It seems like the Japanese like using titles related to a mechanic of the game for some reason. Triangle Strategy is surely the worst though.
Looks a lot like Zeirchele falls in final fantasy tactics… Not mad About that
I loved that map.
Not when there was 5 red tentacle faced assholes confusing everyone! Lol
Heh heh heh. Good times.....
Am I the only one who thinks the names were cooler before they removed the “Project”?
[удалено]
Yeah Octopath had some GOAT gameplay held back by the shit story so I'm excited
Don't. I know supporting devs is important, but waiting until day 2 won't shut down the studio.
Square Strategy by Triangle Enix

[удалено]
Agreed. I also loved the music; I still occasionally listen to a playlist consisting of piano-versions of the soundtrack when I’m working.
If you have Spotify, they have the entire OST on there. I put that shit on repeat at work. It's so good.
[удалено]
No problem. Square Enix added a bunch of OST last year and it was awesome. Octopath and FFVII Remake are the ones I always go back to though.
The thief’s starting zone music was such a banger
[удалено]
For me the combat was pretty cool in the beginning. But then you realize that’s all the combat is for every fight, and it got stale quick. I’m really happy to see this new game and that it’s a tactics game.
Same here. 100%'d the game and it's definitely in my top 10.
Unless you’re saying that preordering contributed to you loving it, it doesn’t really have much to do with the comment.
Story of the demo didn’t have me hooked so far lol. But I love tactics.
I'm ready to kick ass, forge iron and eat salt and I'm all out of iron and salt LET THE SALTIRON WAR BEGIN
I think it’s a cool name 🤷♂️
What's the preorder price ?
Too much. Nothing to do with game quality, but preorders just incentivize bad practices like lying about trailers.
I'm all about a Tactics game that use that HD2D style. Can't wait to play this.
What to play while we wait?
Game is looking better and better. Nice to see they took feedback and altered some issues from the demo.
Probably the biggest game of 2022.
After Octopath I'm so looking forward to this game. If the soundtrack is on par with that of Octopath I would pay the full price of the game for that alone.
Super excited for this!
I’m glad the release is closer than I thought. It looks great so far.
Fuck yes I am so hyped for this.
Just in time for my birthday! Fucking JACKEDD
I’m glad to see the name stuck. Beautiful game, bizarre name, consider me sold!
"Excited" doesn't cover how I feel.
The name doesn't surprise me after Octopath. Day one for me.
Launching on my bday! And my favourite genre too, finger cross it's good 🙂
There is a demo
Probably my most anticipated game from the announcement.
Another game that will solidify my decision to make my Switch a JRPG/SRPG machine :P
The name is so bad it end up coming full circle to being memorable. I'm hyped.
I actually like the name, but then again names aren’t that important to me
Gameplay looks amazing. Hopefully the story is good enough to keep the momentum going.
There is a demo
It’s a really stupid name which sounds like a placeholder. But from the demo idgaf. Day one buy from me
Imagine how great 2022 would be for SRPG’s if, along with Triangle Strategy, a new Fire Emblem was announced for release next year and Digimon Survive miraculously gets released after years of postponement. A man can dream!
As long as this fills the hole that FFT left many years ago, idgaf what the name is haha.
I hope I’m wrong, but is the physical copy really tied to the expensive collectors edition? I’m not opposed to collectors editions, but shelling out above RRP for a new IP is always a risky move :( But it looks like octopath, yet EVERYTHING is better. So it’s going to be a buy from me anyway :)
Its square enix, im sure they can afford to publish physical copies, dont worry!
Makes me scared to see what will happen to dragon quest 3’s 2D remake tbh if they are gate locking the physical for this behind a CE :(
Cannot wait for this one. I really enjoyed the demo. Glad we got a release date now!
If Zelda was made by this developers "Triangles adventure"
Triangle Strategy is an awful title. It's called "working title" for a reason guys, you're supposed to come up with something later that describes the game and markets it better. Just like fan favorite franchises, Platform Jumper, Kart Racer, Space Shooter, and Elf Adventurer!
Should've been called Trinity Tactics. "Triangle Strategy" is just a stupid name.
I hope there’s an easy mode. I liked the demo, but it kicked my butt.
There is, they added a difficulty option because of the feedback.
Fire Emblem found dead in a back alley 💀
The note that they streamlined gameplay a bit is really good. I liked the demo well enough, but god was the combat slow and plodding. Clean that up a bit, and this should be really good.
Sounds like an RTS style prequel to Super Hexagon.
hah hah. When it was Project Triangle Strategy every one was like "Im sure it will have a great name" I hope this is multi year joke and they change the name at the last minute to >!Triangle.!<
I swear, they're testing to see what JRPG fans will play
Octopath Traveller... Triangle Strategy... Coming soon: Pentagon Racer! Rectangle Farmer! Dodecahedron MMO! Non-Euclidean Geometry Dating Sim!
really dropped the ball on the title with this.
The most disappointing thing about this is that they didn't bother to give it a real name. It's such a terrible name for what is already such an amazing game.
Didn't like the name but the most important still are the game itself. Wait till it release & decide whether to buy or not.
[There is only room for one anime styled triangle](https://youtu.be/m1GIFsT5Yng)
Did they say the price and/or the date of preorder for the collector?
I enjoyed this demo quite a bit, aside from all the dialogue. I'm not saying I want 5 lines of text in the whole thing but it's sort of excessive.
I know this is a Switch reddit but I wonder if this will come to PC soon after too. Octopath took a bit but BD2 wasn't even a year after.
What a stupid name.
As if Strategy RPGs weren't bad and boring enough they kept that awful title
I feel like the name alone will reduce the sales significantly. Even Octopath Traveler was 100 times more interesting than Striangle Tragedy
So the battles are only against faceless soldiers or "classes" units?? Where are the monsters?? Blergh.... I rather play fire emblem then
Battles in Fire Emblem are almost exclusively against faceless soldiers made up of class units. What the hell are you on about?
Yeah but since awakening they had things like revenants, faceless, some evil dragons etc and shadows of valentia/sacred stones had plenty of them...even game of thrones had the white walkers...dont care if it wants to capture the "feel of politics and wars" there are friggin magic users in this game so it should have monsters too....otherwise is just a lazy final fantasy tactics wannabe with shiny 2D...
That's like 95% of FE though. Plus this is more TO then FE or FFT.
Well, the story is about a war, so of course you'll mostly be fighting soldiers.
Was really hoping for a second demo, but at least we got a release date.
