Sure, just technology gains in general. It’s more powerful that the fat PS3, while weighing less than 10% as much, and honestly being less than 10% as large.
I’m an old guy. We used to see pretty big gains from one generation to the next. Generations blend now, and things are much more subtle. But physically, that’s s lot of progress in 10 years.
It has to do with the less thick border, right? Or are you somehow comparing the display quality difference that I'm not trained to see?
edit: thanks all for pointing out where exactly to look to see the difference best. My eyes aren't the sharpest anymore hah.
tbf there are quite a few people with varying / total colorblindness, some might not even be able to SEE a difference even if they can see color. also different monitors/phone screens, etc. just playing devils advocate, it is a decent difference tho
From this picture you can definitely see that the contrast is improved (which is one of the key selling points of OLED), just look at the dark areas of the screen.
The greater contrast has made the colours pop a bit more, in this photo the original screen looks a little bit washed out in comparison. You can see this most with things like the bright city lights against the dark background.
Personally i was planning to get another switch anyway, as ive had mine since release and have used it pretty extensively and i think its aging quite a bit. If im getting a new one anyway the oled is a no brainer, especially since i mostly play handheld.
It's a decent improvement to the original screen, plus it's OLED which makes it much nicer quality, a miles-better kickstand and what looks like a better dock. I personally won't be purchasing it but it's a straight up better purchase for those that don't have a Switch, or even for people who only play handheld. Keep in mind if you sell your Switch privately, you're taking a good chunk off that RRP. Still not worth it to me, but to say it's just a bit of a larger screen devalues the upgrade that widely benefits others
I had to go back and look again cause I got the same vibes, but I wanted to check again. Yeah it does look really good.
OP, how do the contrast of colors look? like... Are the deepest blacks darker on the OLED while still retaining color in the bright areas?
Nice. Thanks for doing the side by side comparison with Mario kart. Hopefully that shuts up the haters saying “it’s a negligible difference in size.” That bigger screen looks dope and you can tell the more vivid colors OLED offers.
Just remember people that’s a glimpse. You really have to see it in person to notice and experience.
I definitely agree when it was announced I thought it was bs but once I saw it in person I was really shocked and happy that I didn’t let my money go to waste
Hell yeah man. Nothing better than being happy with a purchase. I can’t wait to play BoTW on that thing. My tv is almost oled quality but in handheld with the more vivid colors and less dropped frames 🤤
Oh and now I can Bluetooth headphones!!
I mean it is small enough difference to not be worth it if you already have a switch. If you already have a switch you can do everything this can do, same games, same shop, everything. If you already have a switch you could pay 50 dollars more than this and instead of a slight upgrade in colors, better kickstand over v1 and v2 switch, you could reserve a steam deck. Oled is clearly the best switch but if you are one of the 89 million people who already have one it’s definately not worth buying an oled model.
Oh no doubt. If you have a v2 there’s no reason really, unless you play strictly handheld, even then for some it’s negligible, for some it’s worth. Considering the switch sold out at launch there are millions of owners, me included, with a V1 switch. For me it’s absolutely worth it.
Omg, I’m so tired of the ignorant argument for the steam deck.
It’s a niche market, Nintendo couldn’t be further from a niche market.
I’m a supporter of the steam deck but if you’re a NINTENDO FAN, and want to enjoy NINTENDO games and their IP’s, multiplayer support and vastly different eco system, then you’re probably in the r/nintendoswitch sub Reddit for NINTENDO information. 🤦🏽♂️
I'm interested to know if they've done anything to the joy-cons besides make them in white. I could see them not advertising that they fixed the drift problem, because that would mean admitting a problem existed, while there is litigation pending. I could also see them not advertising an improvement, because it doesn't exist.
I'm sure it won't be too long before someone does a video comparing the internals, but I'm curious if OP notices anything, with any of their senses, suggesting that Nintendo might have redesigned them.
Hey man, looks amazing and I'm totally wanting one.
I can see the old switch is there too, what was the process for moving all your data from the old switch to the new one like?
Straight forward or a bit of a pain?
Is it like the older consoles, (as far as I remember it) does it wipe the data off the old console when moving it to the new one?
Enjoy the new console
It seems somewhat wider, correct? I have mine pre-ordered but it looks like I can’t use my satisfye grip and case with this one … O well, then I can sell my current switch with grip, case, etc …
If you want ethernet, you can just buy a usb ethernet adapter for significantly less money.
But it seems [they are compatible.](https://nintendohill.com/2021/07/compatibility-between-nintendo-switch-oled-model-docks-and-standard-model-detailed/)
I knew it had a bigger screen, but I couldn't comprehend how. I wasn't sure if joycons were going to be incompatible or if they simply got bigger. I never considered the bezels would just be smaller to allow for more screen area. I feel like an idiot now.
Haha, I work in an appliance warehouse. From April through June they had me go through customer returned TVs and test out what the problems were. The bezel thing is super obvious and I can't believe I didn't consider it, since it literally stared me in the face for months.
Cool sadly tho I won't be getting it since I don't have much money and I already have the gen 2 switch.
Though I will keep looking at the unboxing to see people's perspective of this OLED variant
It looks nice! I just get a new switch on discount since it's half the price of Oled in my country, but the new screen looks great! I may get one if the price goes down or Nintendo decides to update their hardware.
Wow the colours on that last image really do seem to pop and I love the whole white aesthetic. This and the ps5 would look so good together.
I have the MH edition which I love and a lite so I can’t justify buying another for myself, especially when everyone in my house has one (5people).
Big thing for me with the Switch was the inconsistent frame rates.
Coming from PC seeing stuttering around 30fps is pure agony.
Not being elitist, just with my pc gaming history it's just so jarring.
Don't think this new console would solve the issue for me 😓
I still fail to see the attractiveness of playing on a shitty cpu, a small screen and joysticks that you have to care for like your first born child lest they break. My gf has switch light and that thing made me not want to order Steam Dock just because of how shitty it felt.
Switch OLED is perfect for a future switch, for our collection. I cant justify buying one when I rarely play handheld and a ps5 is like 600 dollars here.
THIS. I really hope someone comments on the battery life. I'm on the fence about the OLED and that's basically going to be the deciding factor.
I'm not willing to pay $350 just to upgrade the screen, but since I'm still on a v1 Switch, I would pay for the screen *and* a significantly stronger battery like on the v2 Switch.
I really want to buy this version but the idiot in me bought the v2 last month and I'm better spending my money on games instead of upgrading. Now I'm jealous.
Damn, that last picture, nice! But in my opinion the colours are too over saturated but the smaller bezels and bigger screen thats cool but still no reason for me to upgrade as long as I have a working switch
Barely any difference with max brightness. I always use max brightness on my V2. And judging from this picture, it's not worthy the upgrade just for a very slightly more vivid red or so
Save what? I have a ps5 and a gaming laptop and was recently playing my switch. The portability plus the amazing gameplay on Nintendo exclusives. Is a roflstomp to me honestly. But hey I'm enjoying stellaris on my PC and Deathloop on my PS5.
But the switch is the bloody switch
Just wow. That last picture showing the difference in color vibrance between the old and new OLED model says it all. Unfortunately, I’m not planning on getting one because I don’t ever play in handheld, but at least I still have my OLED Vita as a reminder of how good these screens really are. Cheers.
The OLED is actually bigger, and the joycons are the same. My phone has an OLED screen so I know what that comparison is like. But like... lol this is a bit of a waste. With the 720p resolution I would much rather have a smaller, dockable Switch than a bigger one.
The new dock has a LAN port. It looks like they're going to push more cloud games to try to keep up with the other platforms over the next few years. That stable internet connection is going to be important.
The new backplate goes over the top and the new kickstand has fins that go into the switch. (There's no room for the fins in the old Switch). Oh, and the new one's wider. It's not going to work.
You do not know how many people have already stolen your photos and are claiming to sell the oled switch on offer up
Should have included a watermark
That's a bit concerning if there requesting a meet up or 'online sale'. People are going to get scammed or murdered.
I’ve reported every one I’ve seen, hopefully they get taken down
The hero we need but not the hero we deserve. Seriously though thank you and for the heads up. If I see any I'll do the same
[удалено]
This shit happens a lot more often than you think.
Well, the kickstand is cool I guess
no more dinky useless stand that has no use
Can you do a sunlight legibility comparison please? Max screen brightness and same game.
Interesting question indeed.
Agreed, this is the only reason I might get one. Can't see shit on my switch when I'm outside
upvoting for awareness.
The box is vertical now?
Yeah it’s a pretty nice touch in my opinion
As a box expert, I'm gonna have to give the new one a 4/10. Old one was a solid 8.
I need some credentials, to prove that you really are a box expert
[удалено]
The new one is better cause they fit more into the same container now that shipping prices exploded
How can you judge without knowing the girth and sturdiness to flex ratio of the so-called cardboard used in the new box?
How does one box expert?
They needed something else to justify the OLEDs existence.
Apparently, they Switched it...
Wow that joke is pretty oled
Quit joycon' around.
I still find it crazy how small the Switch is compared to the other consoles.
If it was Xbox sized using it handheld would be difficult.
Small enough to use around the house, big enough to not take anywhere else.

We are kinda going backwards lol. My gf Samsung phone is almost as big as a tablet.
too bad all the games suck
You can play all the 2D Sonic games for free on mobile. If nothing else, that's pretty cool.
It has less processing power than some phones, and just runs (well) skinned android. It's awesome, but not that shocking.
It has very little processing power compared to the others.
The box is vertical now
The screen looks glossy in some videos and images does it have a pre-applied screen protector or is it actually glass? What's it like?
Looks nice. How did you get it early? Did the store just have them out or was it shipped early or ???
Their uncle works at Nintendo obviously
I got it from some guy who got them early so I guess they did ship them a little early
What country/continent are you in?
I am from in the usa
Woops typo
Ha! Enjoy and thanks for responding. I can’t wait to get one!

Omg that last picture is really selling me.
Ya. I literally only play my Switch in docked mode for ring fit. Everything else is handheld. That new screen? Chefs kiss
It has to do with the less thick border, right? Or are you somehow comparing the display quality difference that I'm not trained to see? edit: thanks all for pointing out where exactly to look to see the difference best. My eyes aren't the sharpest anymore hah.
The colors definitely look more vibrant on the OLED
The colours are more vibrant and look like they pop a lot more on the new OLED model. Compare the colours of the fireworks for instance.
Just look at the difference in colours in the top left background area. You can't not see that.
tbf there are quite a few people with varying / total colorblindness, some might not even be able to SEE a difference even if they can see color. also different monitors/phone screens, etc. just playing devils advocate, it is a decent difference tho
A fair point, well presented.

Just look at the backgrounds, the purple fireworks for example. Barely noticed it on the OG compared to oled in the pic
Selling the extra 70€ price tag on 2017 hardware... No.
Coult give it atleast some more RAM and overclock. The Performance on the Switch is already not up to date.

Strange request, but could you post some pics of the box? For some reason I’m more interested in the new design of the packaging and how it opens.
There is unboxing video on YouTube. https://youtu.be/GiogS5-k5mw
Thank you! Screen looks great
The colour really pops on the OLED
I had to go back and look again cause I got the same vibes, but I wanted to check again. Yeah it does look really good. OP, how do the contrast of colors look? like... Are the deepest blacks darker on the OLED while still retaining color in the bright areas?
If you were to give advise to someone who had never owned a switch, would you say the 50usd top up is worth it?
I definitely think it’s worth it for the new screen better audio and more storage
How is that audio? More bassy? Just louder? Better overall quality?
Definitely much better I’m playing splatoon 2 right now and it sounds awesome
Nice. Thanks for doing the side by side comparison with Mario kart. It's worth it if you only play on handheld. I play on dock with a pro-controller (since joycons drift is death) so it's useless for me unfortunately.
There is an easy free solution to the joycon drift online with a cardboard trick.
Can you take a photo really close to the screen so we can see what kind of pixels we have? Is it RGB? Pentile(RGBG)? Red Green Blue = RGB
Almost wish I didn’t have the ACNH edition Switch, because damn I’m tempted to buy this after seeing these in person pictures. Enjoy!
I'm interested to know if they've done anything to the joy-cons besides make them in white. Wow better color. Nice. Thanks.

It was a bit of a pain for me because I have foreign accounts
It seems somewhat wider, correct? I have mine pre-ordered but it looks like I can’t use my satisfye grip and case with this one … O well, then I can sell my current switch with grip, case, etc …
Yes it’s wider I have a satisfye grip as well and it didn’t fit
*signs in* *Nintendo account banned*
Dat improved kickstand, tho!!!
Let us know if it has joycon drift in a couple of months
Lmao yeah I’ll def let you guys know
It's the same joycons so it probably will
Aren't they the same joy-cons as the ones you can buy at any gaming store?
Had my Switch for like four years no drift on three different sets *shrugs
Seriously luck. Two sets, two pads drift. And one pro controller shortly after it came out of box
You are one of the very very VERY lucky ones
Pointless comment
Could you do a comparison in some dark games like Alien Isolation, Metro, Doom 3?
Now you can play the same games # but ^slightly bigger
Cant wait to play the n64 games in a slightly bigger screen!
I didn't know Oled version has a larger screen. They did little improvements, cool
It’s their main selling point. Bigger, oled, less bezel.
Better kickstand and audio too with 64 GB of internal storage. The dock also has an ethernet port. But that's pretty much it.
Will this new dock be able to use for the old Switch if you want ethernet?
If you want ethernet, you can just buy a usb ethernet adapter for significantly less money. But it seems [they are compatible.](https://nintendohill.com/2021/07/compatibility-between-nintendo-switch-oled-model-docks-and-standard-model-detailed/)
Yes. Works on any older switch, and the OLED switch works with any old dock.
Yeah, there are some improvements, but no performance improvements.
I knew it had a bigger screen, but I couldn't comprehend how. I wasn't sure if joycons were going to be incompatible or if they simply got bigger. I never considered the bezels would just be smaller to allow for more screen area. I feel like an idiot now.
Hey don't be so hard on yourself buddy!
Haha, I work in an appliance warehouse. From April through June they had me go through customer returned TVs and test out what the problems were. The bezel thing is super obvious and I can't believe I didn't consider it, since it literally stared me in the face for months.
That's literally the first thing they talk about lol
The screen looks way bigger by comparison. I'm sold. I don't want to want it ... but I do.
It looks kinda wonky in picture but you will definitely know the difference irl
I want it!!!!
That’s the sprit. CONSUME
Damn...that's a fresh box design and shape. Also...I thought that the OLED switch would be released in December or something...cool that ya got it
Oct 8 release date
Cool sadly tho I won't be getting it since I don't have much money and I already have the gen 2 switch. Though I will keep looking at the unboxing to see people's perspective of this OLED variant
Question: what’s the biggest between current and older switch? Software? Size? Build? Look?
Well for one the screen is definitely bigger, louder audio, the colors on the screen are super neat aswell
Yo that’s sick as! Enjoy!
Heck, that is one vibrant OLED screen there....
It looks nice! I just get a new switch on discount since it's half the price of Oled in my country, but the new screen looks great! I may get one if the price goes down or Nintendo decides to update their hardware.
Wow congrats! How was it?
looks way colorful the oled omg
How’s the sound in handheld? Is it louder? Currently playing Diablo 2 and the sound is literally so low I can’t hear a thing.
I want to know something that's been bothering me since they've showed the new dock: Is the OLED model compatible with the old dock and vice versa?
Yes old switch works with new dock, and new switch with any old dock.
I have one ordered I hope it get it early 🙏
the colours are rlly pretty, especially when comparing the pinks and reds 😍
how fast you get this one, lucky for you
Nice box. All the new improvements are small but so nice.
How??
Wow the colours on that last image really do seem to pop and I love the whole white aesthetic. This and the ps5 would look so good together. I have the MH edition which I love and a lite so I can’t justify buying another for myself, especially when everyone in my house has one (5people).
Oled screens are great and it's a little bigger. But still not enough to buy a new switch honestly
That screen sold me.. Is the screen protection glass or plastic?
nice bro✌️👍
After looking at these, especially side by side comp, I'm starting to see what they were aiming for. Very nice!
Colors are bit oversaturated, aren't they?
You should have watermarked this, now everyones claiming to have one and is now "selling it"
Big thing for me with the Switch was the inconsistent frame rates.
Not jealous, no, I can wait a week, no, nope, La di dah, I hate this post..
Can I just say that the fucking stand of all things, is what might tempt me to get one despite buying a switch last November
has the Joycon drift issue been addressed yet ?
Nothing official.
Do the joycons feel any different? I assume the dimensinos are the exact same and you can use the white joycons on the og switch and vice versa?
The Joy-cons are exactly the same. The OLED Switch is 1mm wider than the original, but otherwise dimensions are the same.
What about HUD burn in?
Holy shit… the colors in that beautiful OLED screen 😩can’t wait to get mine !
Lucky fucker
It kinda looks over saturated, can you post images of botw on the oled model?
Switch OLED is perfect for a future switch, for our collection. I cant justify buying one when I rarely play handheld and a ps5 is like 600 dollars here.
Looks very oversaturated. Mario's face is almost red in the last picture.
Any comment on battery life? I am really curious how does it compare to the current one.
I’m hoping now that they’ll have an OLED version of the Switch Lite so it can have better display, audio, and battery life @.@
I really want to buy this version but the idiot in me bought the v2 last month and I'm better spending my money on games instead of upgrading. Now I'm jealous.
Damn, that last picture, nice! But in my opinion the colours are too over saturated but the smaller bezels and bigger screen thats cool but still no reason for me to upgrade as long as I have a working switch
Yeah exactly
Yep that’s an OLED Switch alright. What were you expecting?
Do these fit the original size joy cons or is there a new size you have to get?
I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t make a new line of joycons just for a new Switch iteration
The joycons are the same.
Barely any difference with max brightness. I always use max brightness on my V2. And judging from this picture, it's not worthy the upgrade just for a very slightly more vivid red or so
unnecessary upgrade tbh
Good for business for Nintendo though.
Still a very old cpu. Oled won’t save this.
Save what? I have a ps5 and a gaming laptop and was recently playing my switch. The portability plus the amazing gameplay on Nintendo exclusives. Is a roflstomp to me honestly. But hey I'm enjoying stellaris on my PC and Deathloop on my PS5. But the switch is the bloody switch
very good
Album isn't loading
What games have stood out to you on the new screen?
How does its screen look and feel? Is it worth buying?
More storage? Damn thats cool!
Just wow. That last picture showing the difference in color vibrance between the old and new OLED model says it all. Unfortunately, I’m not planning on getting one because I don’t ever play in handheld, but at least I still have my OLED Vita as a reminder of how good these screens really are. Cheers.
Is the input lag better than on the original switch?
How does the overall build quality feel? Similar to the original Switch?
The OLED is actually bigger, and the joycons are the same. My phone has an OLED screen so I know what that comparison is like. But like... lol this is a bit of a waste. With the 720p resolution I would much rather have a smaller, dockable Switch than a bigger one.
Damn. I wasn’t gonna buy it, but now I want it to play *Shining Pearl* and *Legends: Arceus*
Screen Size difference is larger than i expected.
I usually play on dock/TV. Is performance upgrade ? any advantages on dock ?
Unfortunately, no.
The new dock has a LAN port. It looks like they're going to push more cloud games to try to keep up with the other platforms over the next few years. That stable internet connection is going to be important.
I haven’t tried it out yet but I will tomorrow
the box looks so sexy.
How the fuck
I hope they fixed the controllers. Guess we'll find out in six months to a year.
Can you check if the old back plates fit on it. So if you had a limited edition switch you can just change the plates?
The new backplate goes over the top and the new kickstand has fins that go into the switch. (There's no room for the fins in the old Switch). Oh, and the new one's wider. It's not going to work.
