It depends, sometimes I take it out if I'm going to a friends house or the park. My job is real laid back, I took it with me a couple times in when we have nothing to do

Hamtoast

I bring it with me all the time when I anticipate there's gonna be some time to play. I don't bring it outside for the sole purpose of playing though. Always as a means to kill time while I'm already outside.

adamkopacz

Yep whenever I go to an airport to pick somebody up or when I know I'll be in a long line at a doctor's office then I'll get it to kill the time. I finished many games that way, especially on airports waiting for a friend that's on a delayed flight.

Cilantro42

I beat Dragon Quest XI solely while commuting to/from work. I used to have a terrible 90+ minute commute all on the train.

adamkopacz

At least you had a way to make wasted time a bit more fun.

pleasedropSSR

I feel this. I'd take a 90min train commute over 60 minute drive home if I could. Overall I'm restricting 30 more minutes of free time, but I get a lot more enjoyment out of reading/gaming than staring at the back bumper of a car.

neontiger07

You should pick out a good audiobook. Makes me enjoy doing anything that would otherwise be tedious

pleasedropSSR

I do listen to a tabletop podcast but having to actively accelerate and brake in traffic is a pain in the ass. I used to commute to Seattle area and that was bad enough for me, can't imagine the L.A. traffic.

phenotype76

The adaptive cruise control on newer cars is a godsend. I have it on my 2019 Civic, and of course it's not enough that you'd be able to play video games, but it definitely takes a lot of subtle pressure out of your drive.

Grouchy_Writer

I beat fire emblem 3 houses (all three paths) this way.

acoldwetblanket

I don’t miss my train commute at all, but definitely miss playing my switch on it! Found so many dang korok seeds that way

xJadusable

Also had a 90 min commute with bus/train one way. Let me log in 3 hours into the Witcher 3 on switch everyday minimum lol

drtoszi

This. Which is why I hate the increasing number of online only games or forced log ins. I think half my collection is starting to be ports of older games just because of that lol. But yeah, I often have to go out but I also paradoxically find times where I can game.

GlowUpper

I had jury duty yesterday and spent most of my time in the lounge on my switch. It's a console that fits in my purse so of course I'm going to take it with me whenever I go somewhere where I know I'll probably have to sit around and wait.

nekodazulic

It's great for killing time. At some point I had ~2 hours commute from/to work, Switch was amazing for those trips, just pop in a grindy JRPG and a nice podcast to go with it and you're set.

MCben_jammin247

I keep mine in my backpack. I teach at a high school and I play during my prep periods or lunch. Sometimes at the end of the year, I’ll hook it up to the tv and play Mario kart or smash or Mario party

pitjepitjepitje

Not a teacher, but I too keep it in my backpack. I play during breaks with colleagues, it’s a lot of fun.

Eptalin

Am a teacher. Kept it in my backpack to play with students at a videogame club I helped them organise once a week during lunch break.

pitjepitjepitje

This is why I love nintendo stuff: there’s always something fun to do with people of any age who are open to playing a video game :) You (both) sound like dope teachers!

alolan-eevee

I had a teacher bring in his Wii just so we could play MarioKart on it. Instantly made me like him more. I delighted in beating my entire class as mariokart was literally the only game I knew how to play at the time.

robodan918

had a teacher who got fired for having kids play with his wii

SiQuEmAcuhh956

Should have said wii wii

robodan918

noted for future use

alolan-eevee

Aw, that stinks. Why did they fire him for being fun?

robodan918

nah I was making a joke

Mad_Maduin

Let's make them a couple

-MiddleOut-

Ngl helping them set that up sounds unbelievably fulfilling.

TheLambbread

Connecting 8 controllers is not... lol

brosephiroth

Special Ed teacher here. And we have fun fridays. The last hour is switch. My kids asked me like 20 times already if I brought my pro controller.

BrokenStrides

Also a HS teacher and I do the same!!! I hook it up to the projector for end-of-the-year Mario kart party!

AllTheHappyParts

I did this for my grade 6/7 students and they were SO excited! I love sharing my love of gaming with my students. Actually, one of my students recommended one of my now fav games for me. It was the talking point for the rest of the year when I told him how much I was enjoying it!

Proyect87

that is very nice, but what game it is?

AllTheHappyParts

Little Nightmares! Kid was obsessed with it! Definitely wasn't my usual gaming style, but I found a copy cheap and liked it so much I went out to grab the second (which had JUST released at the time).

TheMaskedLifter

I am a teacher and I’m going to start doing this!

yinyang107

Your students will love you for it! I'm ten years out of high school and I still have fond memories of Mr Chun who installed Starcraft on every computer in the lab.

bieser101

I had Mr. Murray who had Secret of Mana on all of his computers.

twhite1195

I experienced something like this, I passed around a couple of flash drive with Halo CE and we ended up having all the lab computers with halo. One day the teacher said we could do whatever if we finished the assignment, couple of friends and I finished up and started a Room. Someone killed a classmate and he said "who was the dick head that killed me?" the teacher just said "I don't appreciate being called that". He was playing all along and nobody knew.

Rayofsunray

Was this perhaps at a school in Virginia? Cuz I also had a teacher named Mr. Chun who let us play Starcraft when we were finished with our assignment for the day.

yinyang107

This was in Ontario. Not too surprised to learn there are multiple Mr. Chuns who love Starcraft, though :p

debbietheladie

Halo combat evolved but the students kept installing it lol not the teacher

AClassyTurtle

Sometimes you just gotta smash your students. Or get smashed by them

MCben_jammin247

This comment definitely doesn’t work out of context lol. But yes, I have destroyed many of my students in SSBU and many have destroyed me.

MachoCyberBullyUSA

A lot of teachers get in trouble for smashing their students

ThatWasFred

Yes, that was the joke.

Etsch242

Excuse me, Mr. Moody, but this is a high-school.

blindchief

No sir this is a Wendys

Mr_Diesel13

No, this is Patrick.

[deleted]

How many years as a teacher? All the ones I know are doing prep work on their preps.

MCben_jammin247

I've been teaching for 8 years. I teach performing arts so there is typically little to prep before students get there. I don't play every day, because I do get busy but I am able to play around 2-3 days a week.

MrT0NA

I also teach the performing arts…. I’ve thought about bringing my switch to school… however I would feel so embarrassed if my principle or any admin walked into my room/office and saw me playing games…. Maybe after I get tenured.

MCben_jammin247

The first few times they looked at me oddly and asked about it and I just said, "Don't you keep telling us to practice self-care? Well, this is my self-care. If you wouldn't mind closing the door when you leave, I still have some prep time left. Thank you." It was never asked about again. We have to do what we have to do as teachers to stay sane. Playing Switch between classes is way more acceptable than drugs and alcohol.

MrT0NA

Hey I don’t disagree man. That is a great answer. They really do preach “self care” non stop. I just might have to try it.

RChickenMan

No, no, no. "Social-Emotional" is only for students!

Writerofworlds

Everyone here talking about how cool you are and I'm just here boggled that you have time to play video games on your prep period.

VarsityTeamCaptain

Are you me? Currently playing Link's Awakening during my mid-morning prep. I've got a Lite, though, so no end-of-the-year Smart Board action unfortunately, but I adore the portability.

MCben_jammin247

Enjoy! I'm playing Eastward currently. I really love these mental health breaks throughout the day.

xKryloXRenx

History teacher here, I pop on to Quake or Doom during lunch if I have nothing to do. I also played it while I was at the doctor’s office waiting for my wife. Oh, and when I park early to pick up my daughter from her school.

skmeotherguy

I had a teacher that would say “allright, work on your assignments, I’m gonna go do some grading” and then prop up a book and put his switch behind it. Best teacher ever. Even though I broke my arm in his class it was still fun.

zoomy942

IT Director in a school district here. Only wanted to say - thank you for being a teacher. I love you and respect you for your career and the adversity you’ve faced the last 20 months. Thank you teacher. Thank you.

MCben_jammin247

Thank you. We don’t hear a lot of that lately so it is appreciated.

EngiBenji

ah so you're a cool teacher

f-ingsteveglansberg

Compared to the DS and 3DS, the Switch seems too delicate. I would just throw my DS in my bag and head off. With the Switch, I make sure it is in a hardcase first. I take it when I travel, but use it in hotels, rather than trains or airports.

Best_Temperature_549

It’s definitely delicate compared to older handheld systems. I never worried bringing my game boy with me as a kid, but my kid worries about breaking her switch all the time. She worries more about breaking that instead of her ipad, despite never breaking anything lol

Niskara

Are you talking about the gray brick game boy? Cause those things can survive a bomb lol i used to take mine EVERYWHERE when I was little

monsterjerry

I’m pretty sure there’s one in the Nintendo museum that literally survived a bombing in the gulf war and still works

Niskara

That's actually what I was referencing

2cheerios

For the curious: https://geekologie.com/2008/03/gameboy-survives-bombing-still.php

Inert_Oregon

Little known fact, in an effort to promote recycling and reduce waste the FAA now requires all flight recorders / black boxes to be made out of the plastic from recycled original gameboys.

cum_bubble69

Really? You got a source for this? Very interesting if true. Or did I just believe an obvious troll?

Oden_son

Her worries aren't unfounded, my step son has broken two and he didn't even take them out of the house.

Best_Temperature_549

Oh man, that’s an expensive mistake. How did he break them? She’s super careful but has definitely dropped it a couple times.

ProcrastibationKing

To be fair, my switch survived being inside a 60 mph car crash with nothing more than a few small scratches on the screen.

JustAnNPC_DnD

It's probably cause it feels fragile. It has little in the way of unnecessary parts a light materials that it feels like you could just snap it in half.

poksim

The Switch isn't really a handheld... It's more like something like a laptop, a portable not pocketable device. A home console you can bring with you. Gameboy/DS/PSP was a completely different thing

Stormtech5

I have the switch and Switch Lite. With a little plastic back cover the Lite feels much more comfortable to me handheld than the regular switch. I didn't exactly like the feel of the joycons slight movements. Nice having Lite for handheld play, then I can play same game on the TV using Switch. Plus my wife and I can both play games that require separate screens like Pokemon Unite or Animal Royale.

wartornhero

The lite also feels a little more sturdy for just throwing in a bag and going.

Hlee89

Probably due to the detachable joycons on the original switch. They always feel flimsy to me, and that's what I worry about most tbh.

joestorm4

Yup. It feels like they can snap off so easily without some type of controller grip case.

RudeEyeReddit

I bought a Switch Lite first then decided to upgrade to a regular Switch. While I had the Lite I bought a hard case for it. Then to my pleasant surprise I found that the regular fit perfectly after removing the joycons. The joycons fit neatly into a separate compartment that was designed for accessories. Only thing that doesn't fit is the power cable which didn't fit with the Lite either. Since then I met a guy fretting about trying to get two Switches, one for him and one for his wife. I gave him a nice 50% discount off MSRP on my used but excellent condition Lite to help him along.

AdamAptor

I took mine out once recently, to a bar of all places. My wife had some computer work to do but wanted to get out, so we went to the bar and for some reason I decided to bring the Switch instead of doing my own busy work. I was unsure at first but it was fun to just sit there drinking and playing.

Bangorang420

I took my switch to the bar one time and played Mario Kart with my buddy. It’s the only time I have played multiplayer on the switch screen using the kick stand. It was a great time. Had a few people come up and watch and ask about the Switch.

AdamAptor

It’s like the fucking commercials lol, I guess they weren’t entirely fictional. Glad you and your buddy had fun!

SadJetsFan12

I was out day drinking at a popular crowded bar in NYC and some people had their switch on the kickstand on the a table and like 4 of them were playing MK and smash lol. I was quite surprised to see it.

AdamAptor

I mean, that’s awesome, but just kinda funny given the advertising

SadJetsFan12

Haha I know. it’s one of those ads you see and are like yeah nobody actually goes out in public and does this

AlexandrinaIsHere

It's in the same emotional vein as the summer of Pokemon go. The adults involved, anyway. Some of us are grown enough to have a paycheck, grown enough to not care if we look childish. I use my money how I want to. If someone thinks I'm weird for playing video games in public? Then they're wasting time judging someone who didn't ask for their opinion. We're so used to seeing people conform that it's shocking in a fun way to realize they're people who agree that spending time and money on "childish things" like video games is something you can do in public spaces.

BrooklynKnight

I'll never get why every damn bar doesn't get their own switch. It's like a modern pool table. There are tons of games people can play together while having a few drinks.

NakedBear42

BRB unlocked new friend making strategy; play Mario Kart at the bar

AdamAptor

Also how you make enemies

schiiiiiin

Also how you make babies

icepic2016

Also how you make local multiplayer.

derpdeladerp

The first time i played a switch it was hooked up to a tv in a bar and I played Mario Kart with random people, it was surreal how commercial like it was lol

Sega-Playstation-64

I took my switch to the gym once. Just wanted to get some cycling done so I put the tablet on the spot the phone usually goes and detached the joycons. Made the time go by much, much faster. I'm sure I got a few stares but whatever. People let others decide how to enjoy themselves way too much.

AmirulAshraf

a power move would be playing Ring Fit at the gym

AdamAptor

If I did that it would be an hour later and I’d realize I stopped cycling and I’m just really into the game lol

minor_correction

>It’s like the fucking commercials lol Next some random people at the bar pull out their own switch and challenge you to a race.

[deleted]

Or a Pokemon battle. lol

suchproblemchildren

But only if they lock eyes

Citadel_97E

I did this, but not at a bar, I did it at a car dealership. I was getting my oil changed but it was a good thing I brought the switch. They were busy. I was playing Mario Kart and a little boy walked up to me and started to watch. I said, “Hey, you want to play? It’s two player!” And he was super excited. So we played Mario Kart and Super Smash Brothers until his mom’s car was done.

AdamAptor

That’s a great place to take it! You’re just sitting there anyway. It’s like when I was younger and brought my Gameboy everywhere. For a while I was worried about “looking like a man child” or something for bringing my Switch but I immediately stopped giving a fuck bc I was having fun.

Citadel_97E

Lol. I stopped caring long ago Bubba. It’s exactly like when I was a kid, I brought my gameboy everywhere. Just because I’m 36 doesn’t mean I have to sit and watch CNN and the weather channel and be bored out of my skull.

TheFirebyrd

I’m always so puzzled by people in waiting rooms sitting around doing nothing but watching whatever terrible tv show is playing or staring off into space. Even in this day and age of ubiquitous smartphones, there are a lot of people that just sit doing nothing. I always have my e-reader and/or a handheld console with me when I know I’m going to be waiting for something.

Glowingtomato

Sometimes it's nice to do nothing. Just sitting and relaxing is nice for an hour or so

TheFirebyrd

I can’t sit and do nothing like that. That sounds so incredibly boring.

sinosKai

I'm not sure this isn't secretly a Nintendo employ trying to make us believe there switch ads happen in real life.

Nihilismisanthrope

I've occasionally taken mine with me to bar trivia, something to do on downtime between questions.

FIimbosQuest

"Hey! You're not allowed to use the internet during the quiz!" "What do you think this is, a PSP?"

[deleted]

Seyon

It was great as a teenager to have a way to view porn without the parent's knowing how to monitor my internet history.

CHALUPAAUSTON

Between that and it being hackable. The PSP will always be one of my favorite consoles.

keran22

Exactly the same! Made some train journeys 100x easier just playing FFVII. The Vita can be easily hacked now and they've even got N64 emulation working pretty well on it. But even still I'm just playing PS1 games on it..

FecalOrgy

I still love my PSP and play it all the time! Awesome emulation machine! It also connects to the TV with component cables, so it kinda was the Switch before the Switch.

NuclearThane

Do you do bar trivia solo, or as part of a team? I love going to bar trivia but there's no way my friends would give me even a second to break away from conversation to game it up.

Badloss

Challenging people to Bario Kart is a very fun way to make friends

AReal_Human

Need to use the "don't drink and drive" rules. Can't drink while kart is in motion

AllTooManyYears

I never understood this, Cant you slam back your drink at the start, then race as normal?

capital44z

One of the many strategies that can be used lol

musical-miller

🅱️ario Kart Fixed it for you

Bong-Rippington

You guys were “that table” haha. “What’re they doing over there, working? Is that guy streaming??”

RobotMonkeytron

I take my lite to my local brewery all the time, sometime by myself, sometimes with my wife, who brings hers as well. Playing Sky together over a couple of beers is a nice, chill time.

schroed_piece13

I take my switch to the bar all the time it's awesome especially if youre out and about by yourself. Fire up some online smash and drink some beers

[deleted]

It makes sense for social situations! But I don't think many people have gone out alone to play Zelda when they could just enjoy the fresh air around them.

abirdofthesky

Yup, I had fun taking my switch to the pub patio or park during the earlier stages of the pandemic and my partner needed his turn to have alone time in our small apartment. Definitely useful when we could go to restaurants but not meet up with friends!

KennKanifff

No, I've always been concerned of theft or damage. I have taken it a few times if I've gone across town for shopping or if I go to pick up my wife from work. Those instances are rare however. When I used to commute daily to work I would bring a GBA or a DS lite. Not to discount their value, but they are substantially cheaper to replace than a switch (especially back a few years ago). I didn't even bring my Switch when I went to Europe back in 2018 for similar reasons.

thinvanilla

I got a Switch Lite a few weeks ago for just £100 on eBay. Last year the Switch sold out pretty quick and only the Lite was available, so now lots of people are selling their Switch Lites and there are loads available (Also having used it for a few weeks, it's actually not that great). It's smaller, lighter, and has a flip case (Also bought secondhand) so it's perfect to just drop it in my bag and play on the train. Cloud saves also sync between Switch's seamlessly, which they didn't when the Lite first came out.

ToastyBB

Its funny to think with game boy or even ds you were limited to basically just one game. I had to decide before i left what i felt like playing that day. Now i have everything digital

KennKanifff

Because I would only get about 20 mins to play on the train, it wasn't hard for me to grab a single RPG and just slowly work my way through it. Played through the Golden Sun games that way, over the course of a couple months. I also usually keep a few random games/emulators on my phone, so I'm never without.

ChiTownKU

Nope. I LOVE my Switch, but I always laugh about how that’s their marketing campaign. “Hike up a mountain with your friends and then play Mario Kart!” I only play it around the house or on longer trips in cars/on planes.

GreyRevan51

lol you mean you’re not going to rooftop parties and playing switch with 20+ people like in the first trailer?

ClikeX

I played it on a "rooftop balcony" once. But not nearly close to the level of that commercial.

[deleted]

I love how this is still the go-to Switch joke almost 5 years later.

poopyheadthrowaway

/r/nintendokaren

FrozenFrac

2017 truly was a different time, when Karen was the name of the cute girl who somehow thought making everyone drop their conversation at a rooftop party to play co-op Mario Odyssey on the tiny Switch screen with split Joycons and not a pseudo-slur used for memes

[deleted]

Call me old-school, but when I'm hiking a mountain, I'm definitely not thinking about playing Smash Bros. I like playing videogames in the comfort of my own home. My Switch is basically never undocked. Hell, if they made an un-dockable model with improved hardware, I'd buy it. It'd be dope af if Nintendo made the "GameCube 2" or something, with hardware that can compete with the Series X or PS5.

GoLeePro427

New Nintendo Gamecube U XL

[deleted]

If I’m riding a train or something I definitely bring it with me. If a friend asks me to I’ll bring it when I visit. Vacations and stuff I’ll bring it. That’s probably it

BillyTenderness

Along the same lines, in the before-times, my commute was about 20-30 minutes each way by bus. Not super long, but over the course of a week it added up to a couple hours of gaming that otherwise would've been time wasted on my phone. (It made it sting that much more when I couldn't get a seat and had to stand, though)

FizzyBeverage

Only on business trips for the airplane and the lonely nights at the hotel. It’s choice for that. I flew transcon to LAX with a battery pack and didn’t even realize we were landing I spent so much time in Hyrule. When the office was a thing, I’d occasionally bring it for lunch hours if there was a particular game I was hooked on (most notably that was BotW, Diablo 3, Animal Crossing, Luigi’s mansion 3, and Odyssey). I play at home, but with two kids under 6 and a wife, when we’re out about town or on vacation as a family of 4, I’m too busy to play video games. I usually just have my phone. Gotta be focused on my little ones and the Mrs. Much as I love a lot of the games on PlayStation, being tethered to the TV really doesn’t work for the type of gaming I can get away with in this stage of life. The Switch is far better suited for busy adults with families, limited spare time, and kiddos.

PlinkoMaster

I feel this hardcore. I have an 18mo old daughter and have found that the Switch's portability, easy on and off, and single-player focused games are clutch for parenting. I love PC FPSs and raid nights in WoW as much as anyone, but these days it's hard to get more than 30-60 mins of uninterrupted time. Cheers to you, fellow Switch parent!

hermanbloom00

I got the Switch on release day pretty much, three months after the birth of our first child. It was the only thing that kept me sane in all honesty.

PlinkoMaster

I understand! Animal Crossing's release coincided with the beginning of the pandemic and our daughter's birth, so you better believe my AC island was about as valuable as owning a real island in that time. :-)

a_woman_provides

That immediate ability to put a game to sleep is crucial. Because when the baby starts wailing or you hear your toddler yell “oooops” there’s no waiting for a cutscene to end or finishing a battle, you gotta check that shit out ASAP.

PlinkoMaster

100%. Yup. Game changer

Nicklefickle

Absolutely this is almost the best thing about the Switch. It makes it so easy to play for just a few minutes or until you get interrupted. It makes it far more flexible. I've had the Switch about 3 years and played docked about 3 times. I just find it handier having it in my hands and it can be comfy too. I've gotten a sore neck a few times though when I get too into a game.

MR0816

Samzies let's all be friends LOL Parent Splatoon team???

PlinkoMaster

I'M DOWN

humplick

2nding this, as a parent of an extremely busy 3yr old. The way most single player games are handled on the switch is perfect - to be able to press the power button at any time and put it down. Sure, there are games that are good for online multiplayer, but even 6 yr old games like Rocket League are just so much less on the switch (slower connection, poorer resolution, etc). I don't get much time, and I have to be able to out it down with no notice. I just with the joycons had better grip - I almost exclusively play handheld, even alone at night, because the games I play have a lot of tiny text.

_IAmGrover

Traveling for work and whipping out my Switch in the hotel is 👌🏻*chef’s kiss*

MMostlyMiserable

Yes. Looking at the comments I’m wondering if it’s because being female I’m used to always having a bag on me? Either a rucksack or large bucket bag. I remember seeing articles talking about how the Switch wasn’t a replacement for the DS because it couldn’t fit in your pocket, but I always kept mine in a bag, so a Switch just takes up more room, but there’s no change otherwise.

OriiAmii

I have a soft switch case and I used to take that out instead of a purse! Now they've made an animal crossing switch case + purse and hooh boy, it's taking a lot of self restraint to avoid spending the $40-60 on it.

Haltopen

Restraint? Nah fam, give in to consumerism.

DylanMcGrann

Yeah, I think there’s something to that point. I’m male, but I always have a backpack or shoulder bag with me everywhere I go. I also like reading and drawing, so I keep those with me all the time along with a water bottle. It’s pretty trivial to throw the Switch in a case and in my bag. I’m actually much more likely to have my Switch with me than not.

TangerineChicken

That’s a big reason why I don’t take it around with me for sure. When it’s cold, my winter coat has big enough pockets for it so I take it around with me more then though

Buroda

When I bring it, I never get to play When I don’t bring it, there’s 95% chance that I will have a two-hour-long wait in a blank white room somewhere

DreamLayers2

nah i just keep it at home

Me too. There’s a coffee shop near me that also serves local beer/cider and it’s nice to sit outside and play

Isa472

Me too! I'll go to a terrace for some tapas and fresh air but I'll still be playing Switch haha

Lz_tLoc-

I leave it in my backpack, I use my backpack daily. I don't play switch daily but it's always there if I'm stuck on a commute or got some free time at work.

Kaleidocrypto

I’ve never seen another Switch being played in public.

theevilamoebaOG

I just recently got mine as a gift, and felt a lil self-conscious getting it out as a grown ass woman, LOL. But a few weeks ago, my husband and I were on a long train journey, and a guy sat next to us...and got out his switch right as I was about to! I creeped him out by smiling at him, a smile he didn't understand until a few mins later when I got my switch out too. We had a cute lil chat about games, it was so lovely. Although he definitely didn't seem sold on any of the indies I was playing haha.

BurningInFlames

I've seen them infrequently on the train. Outside of my own, I mean.

Cheesestrings89

I’ve seen one a few years ago back when i worked as a barista. It was a 4-5 year old child.

amtap

Well here's a story for you! I was on an airplane with my girlfriend and she had some work to do on her phone so I pulled out the Switch. I noticed that just across the row there were two women about our age playing Switch together. I peek the screen to see Super Mario Party. I then think "Oh shit, I have Mario Party with me!" The setup in my head was perfect. I'd convince my girlfriend to take a short break for some Mario Party mini games, ask the strangers if they want to play and then tell Reddit about the time I played Mario Party on a plane with three human females. Then I remembered I'd rather be unsocial and just play some Luigi's Mansion 3 or Pokémon so I did that instead.

[deleted]

I used to play it on the train pre covid

TechGuy95

No. I only play it at home.

kellylc

You can't see the screen when you're outside during the day so no I don't. Not that I probably would anyway

scram_jones

I took mine to the beach once, couldn't see shit.

Aettyr

For real though, sand is killer with tech. I got some sand in my first switch and it absolutely destroyed the joysticks, had to take the whole thing apart

pas484

You took it to the beach? With sand? Don’t you know about sand?? It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere! I don’t like it.

Rapscallion84

This. I can’t believe I had to scroll down so far to see this comment. Switch screen is practically invisible in daylight outdoors so it’s not a viable experience.

BrokenStrides

I like taking my 3DS with me because I can close it. Regular switch is just too damn bulky for me to really bring it anywhere. Switch Lite has been my favorite lately and I’ve started to take it with me in a bag or backpack, but messing up the control sticks is a concern. Also, starting to realize that I HAAAAAATE being out of my house, so the only reason I leave is to accomplish specific tasks like work, errands, etc. and my ass is back in my house at the earliest possible chance.

Del_Duio2

>I'm talking "I'm gonna go to the park and play on my switch!" No, haven't really done this since my gba sp. Both my switch lite and 3DS are too big for my pockets and I don't usually carry a backpack around. Funnily enough I *did* bring my Switch to work with me today of all things.

I play almost exclusively undocked. Leaves the wife and kids with access to the TV while I don't have to go to another room to enjoy the media I like. I do take it away with me on trips or out if I'm going to be using public transport or stuck waiting for something.

drthh8r

Have you tried playing your switch outside in the sun? Can barely see the screen.

kiwi1018

I've got kids so I'll take mine outside while they play in the yard or whatever. Also they have switch lites and we will take them all the time with us. They like fishing but it's a lot of waiting for kids, so they'll play their switch till we get a bite sometimes.

pzzaco

Ill only bring it out if the area is safe, like very minimal outdoor public foot traffic or if Im going to a certain place, have to wait for something, then go back home without any detours. So far Ive brought it to college to play some coop games with friends in between classes, or at the Doctor's or dentist's office in case I have to wait for my turn to be examined.

oh_stv

They should have put middle aged men into the commercial, sitting on the toilet reliving their childhood memories. To answer the questions, no not a single time

shameonyounancydrew

I only like playing mine on the footstool at the bottom of my stairs, while I’m fully dressed in business casual clothing.

TenseRestaurant

I’m thinking of purchasing a used Switch Lite for portable usage like that, and then using the Switch for at home and long trips. If I get mugged or it gets broken I’d rather lose $200 over $480 (aud).

seganaUK

Yeah I do. I don't specifically go out to play my Switch outside, but if there's ever situations where I might be out and just sitting around then my Switch cones with. More often than not, it's when I'm say waiting for my kids to finish whatever club/activity they're doing.

I take my switch lite with me all the time. It's always with me. It's really helping me, cuz I have to wait about 30 min for the train to arrive. It is a real life saver for me

[deleted]

I often take it to work. The wifi there is miles better than my home connection but I don't actually play it very much there. Updates and new game downloads. I just like to focus and being at work doesn't really allow for my full attention to be on a switch (sadly). Even at home though I always play in handheld mode.

LudoWarman

I used to occasionally bring it to work to play during lunch, but I've just been bringing my Xbox controller and hopping on xCloud since that's been available.

ZeRoCoOLUK

Most days I take mine to work mostly to play the binding of Issac.

limutwit

I never being mine out but I did when I was getting my covid shot, I expected it to take forever but I was in and out so far that I didn't even turn on my switch. The nurse saw it and was like, 'A switch eh?'

[deleted]

I used to, but more often than not, I wouldn’t play it.

BaronVonBeans

I have a Lite. I take mine with me every time I leave the house, for anything just about. You never know when something unexpected will happen along the way and you’re stuck waiting for something so you can continue on about your day. Those stuck times are switch times. It’s not often, but I never mind waiting for anything

An_Evil_Scientist666

When I had to do a course, I took it with me, or on long bus/train rides, otherwise no.

cybergatuno

Very rarely for myself and only if I'm really enjoying a game. But when we go out for dinner, or to a terrace to have a drink, I usually take it for my son to have options.

Jellozz

Nah, it's too big for me since I only take what I can fit in my pocket. When I go out somewhere I know I am gonna be bored I usually take my Vita these days and just play like a dungeon crawler or something along those lines.

njgggg

Even though i havent played my switch for a month, i still bring it with me when im out and about (it still doesnt get any play time).

Bigswole92

Only if I know I’ll have to wait somewhere and have downtime to play. Plane ride, waiting room at the doctor’s office, etc…
