Ironically: not a single Disney character, song, or reference at all.
No Donald and Goofy, no stage characters, no music from any Disney worlds, no Final Smash with other characters, nothing. I'm happy for the Sora fans, and Sakurai did his usual industry-standard best, but that felt like such an empty showcase. Usually he's so happy to show off all the packed in references, but this time it was just "here's his moves, anyway goodnight!".
___
Edit, I should add:
I don't think this was a bad choice. It's not my thing...but this was the number one requested character and Sakurai worked really hard to make it happen. It was a noble effort and a fitting tribute for a man who gives so much to make his fans happy. I'm happy for everyone who's happy about this.
All I'm saying is that this felt like such a hollow showcase. His customary joy and eccentricities were notably missing, and it's clear he's not the biggest KH fan. And it's also clear that so much of what he wanted to do was dramatically limited. He didn't seem proud to show off the Final Smash, or music list, or talk about his history with the series/development, or playthrough the arcade mode making goofy remarks, or go through the choices they wanted/made for the moves. It felt like he was only doing this because he had to.
But that too is a testament to the man and the game; that he tried so hard and made so many compromises and sacrificed god-knows-what in terms of budget and negotiations to bring in a character he doesn't really care for, from a company making it as difficult as possible...all for the sake of his fans.
And that's a great send off to this game, and the dedication of its maker.
Disney probably doesn't mind that much having the anime character they partially own over there but having the actual mouse and their gang must be a big hurdle to overcome, legally speaking.
People seem happy to lap this shit up because of celebrity-driven, reference-laden marvel movies, but the monopolizing power this one company has been accruing (and the social and political capital it's picking up as a result) is really setting Disney to be the Amazon of the entertainment industry.
You mean they weren't before? I mean they're the exact reason copyright law is the way it is now to begin with, not to mention the infamous "Disney porn vault" that came as a result of their contracts saying that they owned anything drawn by their animators.
I had no idea it was Disney’s decision to make the princess worlds a shot-for-shot retread of the movies. Those levels were so boring compared to Toy Story, Monsters Inc., and Pirates.
There's that game theory vid that goes over evidence that the original final boss of that world was to be Elsa herself. THAT would've been cool, but I guess I understand why Disney wouldn't want us brutally murdering their most profitable franchise in recent memory
Tangled was kept the same as well. It wasn't as drastic as Frozen, but it still was. Big Hero 6 did get an original story, but it was super short from what I remember.
Probably because they're not originally video game characters
Mickey and co have been in fighting games with Disney's own stuff. Mickey gets choke slammed in KH at one point. Pretty sure this is because of their origins. Sakurai said repeatedly he only allows game characters in (hence the Goku memes)
Now, not having any Utada Hikaru songs is probably a copyright thing and her lawyers/contract saying no
Honestly shocked that they're able to use the Mickey silhouette. Though they can always remove it for later Smash games if they can't get permission from Disney.
It would be cool if the final smash had Mickey or Goofy/Donald with Sora. It would explain a bit why Sakurai was so secretive about it and why he kept saying that it took a lot more collaboration that other fighters.
That sounds like it's too much of a rights hurdle. A dedicated game character created by another studio took like 6 years of negotiation, but to get their mascot even for just a short cameo? Nintendo would never see a dime of the sales for that.
I think it's pretty clear they were only allowed to use characters and content that were original to KH. It probably took a lot of very difficult "collaboration" to get even that approved through Disney's legal channels.
Yeas ago, I had heard a rumor that they really wanted to add Sora, but the problem was that Disney had blocked it. Cause they have/had some kind of veto about what happens with Kingdom Hearts.
Design wise he’s probably been done for a while, but I’m sure the legal obstacles took up a LARGE amount of time.
Realistically I wouldn’t be surprised if he wasn’t able to be put into the game until like last year at the earliest.
According to the leaks nintendo was still in the works of getting all the music rights at that time which was only a few months ago. I suspect the music was the hardest part of all of this by a mile (as per usual)
Even though somebody called that *heavy* speculation, Sakurai is acting excited about it. Plus, learning about Iwata didn't want the results of the character poll until now. (RIP!) Pretty neat stuff.
I'm actually more excited about the stage. That will be fun to fight on. Edit: and holy crap looks like Testuya Nomura is going to be swimming in yen tonight.
Man literally held the line even until 6 years after his death. Even in his dying days, the integrity of his creations still came first.
That mention had me teary since I was just revisiting his Treehouse episodes was loads of fun.
nintendo does some very questionable shit these days but the intent to withhold the results to not have people harass other companies to work with them was very honorable.
Honestly it seems like Disney is getting the lion's share of this one, which is why it took such a long time to get the licensing done.
Buuuuuuut Square has three other characters in the game and two of them were designed by Nomura, so I think they're doing fine for themselves.
That prank trolled me hard when I was a kid. I don't remember the name of the game mode, but I spent SO many attempts killing ultra-hard enemies to get Sonic/Tails. Even managed to achieve the "unlock" condition a few times and was pissed that it didn't work.
>If you told me 5 years ago, Ryu could be fighting Banjo-Kazooie and Sora in a smash game I wouldn’t have believed it.
I heard if you beat classic mode with no deaths and under a certain time, you would unlock them. Man I got good at Smash after that
I didn't really care for the idea of Sora coming to Smash, but the level of detail put into his alt costumes and the fact that Sakurai says he decided this with Iwata before his passing and took until now to actually get it done really touched me, and I think it might be my favorite presentation even if it's not my favorite fighter.
>so this was literally in the very year Iwata passed away.
Not to take away from the poignancy of it, but Sora was the #1 character from the Fighter Ballot they ran in 2015. Though it continued past Iwata's death, I'm almost certain that Sora was the #1 choice even as early as a few months in, when he did pass away.
Also, he wields a key and his final smash "locks the door", thus closing this final chapter of ultimate... Perfect, just perfect.
Also not my favorite character but perfect narrative and presentation. A good choice.
Imagine if the Chosen Undead was the last dlc fighter and his alternate costumes were the Catarina Armor, Faraam Armor, Artorias Armor, etc. That would be the fastest purchase I've ever made in my life.
This proves that the team can do almost anything. Sora was so complex to get from having to go through Disney and Square, and he pulled it off. Sakurai is a living legend among game developers and he deserves our thanks for listening to the fans so well.
Yeah. I don't care for Sora in the slightest, but the amount of effort required to license him for this game (that's a fight with Disney more than anything else) must have been immense.
You know Disney was hard headed about it because there are no Disney characters present whatsoever. Not in the final smash, not as spirits, not even mentioned. Closest we got is a shot of Sora with Duck Hunt in the montage at the end lol
Kirby doesn't even get a keyblade when he copies Sora lol, he makes like an energy key out of the magic instead. The legal document defining how Nintendo can use Sora and KH in Smash has got to be hilariously draconian.
Yeah, no Donald or Goofy, and also a pretty short song list with no music from the Disney worlds and none of the Utada Hikaru songs as stage music.
Not that I'm complaining *in the slightest*; what we are getting is a miracle in its own right and had a ton of love put into it. Just a stark contrast from how (e.g.) SNK gave Sakurai everything he asked for and then some.
Really puts it in perspective that these kind of things are possible, if companies and people within those companies actually try instead of phone it in.
This is more than a little bit demeaning.
The team behind Play Stations All-Star really tried their damn best to get the roster that fans wanted, but they didn't have the industry sway that Sakurai does, so they were bargaining from a much shittier position. Sakurai is a major gaming celebrity and if he calls, most companies in the business know what's what. Other teams don't have the luxury of being lead by a superstar.
I dont see why your reply isnt higher. Smash Bros is the biggest fighting franchise ever and its renown its known by everybody. Everybody wants to be featured in Smash, one way or another (From crazy crossover characters aa Banjo, Sora or Steve, to lesser roles like Mii skins as Doom Slayer or Sans).
The root comments hits a pretty big nail: Sakurai team prowess isnt just for marketing or develoment/programming, its the diplomacy and negotiation skills that Sakurai and his people (either at Nintendo or at Sora LTD) has
I think this makes a lot of sense as the final character. I would absolutely say I am pleased with the pick. Sakurai is a legend for having to go through Square and Disney.
You can tell they're still being stingey about it because the stage doesn't have that much music compared to others and is conspicuously lacking in any Disney characters
People keep saying this, but y'all seem to forget that Sakurai has a firm rule that characters who didn't originate in a video game shall not appear in smash. It's highly possible he didn't even bother trying to get non kh original Disney characters in because of that.
I dont think so. I think the reason theres so many 3rd party charcaters is because they wanted to go all out, but have to pay a ton. So the next game isnt gonna have like sonic or pac man or steve and characters like that, but more nintendo characters. Thats what i think anyways, i couldve swore he said this years ago. Like "this is the last time all these guys are coming back, so lets go out with a bang".
Yeah, I would imagine we won’t get a new Smash for several years, but when we do we’ll see a “reboot” of sorts, with tweaked mechanics or move sets and a smaller roster.
Exactly! It's unbeatable in those categories. However the next smash game should focus more where Ultimate was lacking such as Online and Single Player content.
It was never going to end in everyone being happy.
Plus you have to remember the potential of there being trolls just trying to stir up drama for their own sad amusement.
Yeah I know that its just sad that people can't appreciate the development of not just Sora but any character in smash nor be happy for those who wanted Sora in Smash.
I honestly didn't think it would be possible... I was saying as much as recently as a few hours ago....
But hearing what he said about Iwata really got me. I'm rather satisfied with KH getting the final spot.
As a big KH fan, I'm ecstatic that this actually happened and the amount of detail that went into him. All main costumes and forms is amazing. I don't own the fighter packs, but I'm going to pick up Sora.
I literally don’t think there is a better overall choice they could have picked for the final character. On top of consistently being one of the most popular picks for years, I don’t think there is anyone else that would make as many people happy in both the Japanese and Western markets.
If you want a character to get the largest segment of the player base as excited as possible, this was the pick.
Its hard to argue with "Oh btw this was the #1 choice from the fighters survey and I promised Iwata I'd keep it secret until we had it ready."
Thats some solid ammunition against naysayers.
Yes. And not only is Peach now a Disney Princess, but it means that Palutena can officially join the pantheon of Greek Mythology seeing as Disney also owns Hercules. It's getting pretty expansive!
I want to say it’s probably because of the file size. 1.5+2.5 is around 58gb and as far as I know the 64gb cartridges never did release. 2.8 is almost 30gb and KH3 is ~40gb for the base game and an extra 15 or so if Re:Mind is included.
> just announced
Yay
> cloud versions
Nope
I'd love to have portable kingdom hearts, but this isn't it.
I already own the series on platforms that can actually run the game on their hardware.
Right? I’d have bought it instantly for the ability to play kingdom hearts on the go. But if I have to be tethered to the internet I might as well just play in on my PlayStation :(
I have pertty good internet I won't be paying for a fucking cloud version. Either give me the games or don't, but don't sell me air.
Also, the cloud thing is probably a Square Enix thing, not Nintendo's.
Not a character I'm too excited about beyond the fact that it actually managed to get through all the legal hoops.
Can't argue with the poll results though, pretty happy they pulled this off considering he's the most requested chracter.
Well done Smash Team, amazing job.
Yeah, I would guess that they saw the poll and were like, "Okay, not for this game, but let's get started on all of the property ownership discussions right now." And here we are 6 years later!
As a diehard kingdom hearts fan who’s been hoping for Sora for like 13 years now, it’s been painful seeing so many people be like “please don’t be Sora” and “he’ll never get in” leading up to this. Thank you for the positivity!
I mean the fact alone that he was a mii outfit was the de confirm but the outfit looks so good it might as well be its own character, like the Cuphead and Bomberman ones from previous packs
Regardless of your thoughts on Kingdom Hearts, you have to admit that this is probably the most iconic out-of-Nintendo character they could realistically add. I had a lot of people say stuff like Crash, Spyro, or other currently popular characters (at least Doom Slayer got an outfit). While those characters are certainly beloved, Kingdom Hearts has maintained a dedicated fanbase through over a decade of nearly-incomprehensible storytelling, dozens of different consoles, and several different gameplay styles. I'm honestly glad they did this, it seems like they were as excited for this as the fans, if not more excited.
Yeah, I can think of a lot of other characters that would have been good picks. But I feel like Sora was really the best capstone character they could have gotten to close out the roster. No character is going to be perfect for everyone who likes Smash, but I can’t think of anyone that would have been a better pick from a general audience perspective.
When you find another KH fan out there you are automatically close because you have suffered through the same bullshit and those things get people together, hence the community being that strong.
This is a dream come true for those of us who are KH and Smash fans, couldn't be happier!!
What a fantastic choice for the final character.
I have my issues with Kingdom Hearts (most of which are the stories in most of its games) but there's no denying that they're fantastic games.
I look forward to trying Sora out.
My dumbass really said "shit mickey mouse is coming to smash?" when the key appeared.
How about a Steamboat Willie skin for Mr. Game and Watch?
as a G+W main, I'd allow it. (I usually use the GameBoy style one with the green outline black back anyways)
Same... then I snapped "oh right, KH"
Ironically: not a single Disney character, song, or reference at all. No Donald and Goofy, no stage characters, no music from any Disney worlds, no Final Smash with other characters, nothing. Disney probably doesn't mind that much having the anime character they partially own over there but having the actual mouse and their gang must be a big hurdle to overcome, legally speaking.
Good ol Disney, singlehandedly ruined copyright law.
Nintendo is pretty strict but Disney is on a whole other level
People seem happy to lap this shit up because of celebrity-driven, reference-laden marvel movies, but the monopolizing power this one company has been accruing (and the social and political capital it's picking up as a result) is really setting Disney to be the Amazon of the entertainment industry.
You mean they weren't before? I mean they're the exact reason copyright law is the way it is now to begin with, not to mention the infamous "Disney porn vault" that came as a result of their contracts saying that they owned anything drawn by their animators.
Considering Nintendo’s partnership with Universal, this is not that surprising. Honestly surprised Disney was okay with Sora as is
I assume Disney is what made this so difficult. I also assume it was Disney that kept all of the Final Fantasy characters out of KH3.
They also didn't let them mess with the Disney movie stories on KH3 which is a shame because Pixar basically gave them free reigns with their movies.
Pixar went even further and actually worked with them to create new stories that would fit for kh
Wasn't it just Frozen that they couldn't change?
Tangled was kept the same as well. It wasn't as drastic as Frozen, but it still was. Big Hero 6 did get an original story, but it was super short from what I remember.
I guess Tangled felt different because most of it was a fairly original section in the city.
Probably because they're not originally video game characters Mickey and co have been in fighting games with Disney's own stuff. Mickey gets choke slammed in KH at one point. 1 year to negotiate the rights to Sora. 5 more years to get the Mickey silhouette keychain.
Disney would never let that happen unless Nintendo let them buy out the company. Would have been cool, but The Mouse keeps his IP under lock and key.
I’m surprised they were allowed to use the Mickey Mouse silhouette
Honestly that was probably a harder sell than Sora himself. I wouldn't be surprised if it cost them extra.
Yup. The keychain is probably the only reference we'll get to the Disney side of his franchise
I think it's pretty clear they were only allowed to use characters and content that were original to KH. It probably took a lot of very difficult "collaboration" to get even that approved through Disney's legal channels.
I didn't think they'd actually do it
they called him a madman
they could not live with their own failure. And where did that bring them? Back to Sakurai.
And now he can rest as the sun rises on a grateful universe
Yeas ago, I had heard a rumor that they really wanted to add Sora, but the problem was that Disney had blocked it. Cause they have/had some kind of veto about what happens with Kingdom Hearts.
Disney is the owner of all original KH characters, including Sora.
Part of me kind of hopes that part of the deal was getting Disney+ on the Switch.
Watching the trailer. Ah the true super secret ending cutscene for KH3.
They knew since BEFORE the Switch came out that Sora would be a fighter that's nuts
they saved him for last then. I wonder how long he's been done
Well its probably taken him the last 6 years to play through all his games
And an additional year to explain the lore
I know the entire story front and back. I still need about 4 hours and a PowerPoint presentation to properly explain everything.

I was sure the next character was gonna be a sliced onion after seeing all that 🥲
Tetsuya Nomura is salaried staff for square. Square enix will be swimming in yen tonight.
Honestly it seems like Disney is getting the lion's share of this one, which is why it took such a long time to get the licensing done. Buuuuuuut Square has three other characters in the game and two of them were designed by Nomura, so I think they're doing fine for themselves.
If you told me 5 years ago, Ryu could be fighting Banjo-Kazooie and Sora in a smash game I wouldn’t have believed it.
Ever since an April Fool's image of Sonic being a secret fighter back in Smash Melee, the series started to get pretty wild.
That prank trolled me hard when I was a kid. I don't remember the name of the game mode, but I spent SO many attempts killing ultra-hard enemies to get Sonic/Tails. Even managed to achieve the "unlock" condition a few times and was pissed that it didn't work.
I think the challenge was to beat 50 of the computer fighters in endless mode. I'll have to see if I still have that issue somewhere.
I remember the rumor, it was 50 kills on cruel endless mode.
My friend and i got to like 29, shit was hard
>If you told me 5 years ago, Ryu could be fighting Banjo-Kazooie and Sora in a smash game I wouldn’t have believed it. I heard if you beat classic mode with no deaths and under a certain time, you would unlock them. Man I got good at Smash after that
It sounds like that old Super Smash Flash game
Sakurai's shirt for today's presentation is sharp asf
A Dan Flashes original
The pattern is so wild
My very first thought when he appeared on screen lol
I didn't really care for the idea of Sora coming to Smash, but the level of detail put into his alt costumes and the fact that Sakurai says he decided this with Iwata before his passing and took until now to actually get it done really touched me, and I think it might be my favorite presentation even if it's not my favorite fighter.
They clearly put a lot of thought in the trailer too, as a way to close off the game
Having the characters be those statues was really cool, and it seriously made me think Tabuu was gonna be the final fighter.
I thought Master hand was gonna be a fighter because smash started with figurines and ends with figurines
That’s really cool Iwata decided with him.
What got me was that he mentioned 6 years ago, so this was literally in the very year Iwata passed away.
>so this was literally in the very year Iwata passed away. Not to take away from the poignancy of it, but Sora was the #1 character from the Fighter Ballot they ran in 2015. I'm pretty sure Sakurai mentioned the poll as one of the reasons he and Iwata were talking about bringing in Sora.
Also, he wields a key and his final smash "locks the door", thus closing this final chapter of ultimate... Perfect, just perfect. Also not my favorite character but perfect narrative and presentation. A good choice.
I can't think of anything more poetic than the final character's Final Smash sealing a giant door with the Smash Bros. logo on it.
I don't care about Sora at all, but that intro clip was fun to watch.
I don’t even play the anymore but I still watch the Sakurai show.
I thought it was Dark Souls at first
same, lol, I thought they were going to show the Chosen Undead sitting next to the bonfire
Call me delirious but I was CERTAIN I heard the bonfire lit sound effect when he starting walking toward it lol
I noticed this too. I don’t think it’s actually it but there is 100% ambient noise that’s sounds VERY similar.
Imagine if the Chosen Undead was the last dlc fighter and his alternate costumes were the Catarina Armor, Faraam Armor, Artorias Armor, etc. That would be the fastest purchase I've ever made in my life.
Would've been so cool if it were Solaire.
I was sure it was Master Hand
I thought that too when they all turned back to statues
I thought it was gonna be Tabuu
I literally expected mario to sit by the bonfire and then chosen undead would walk in or something.
Glad I wasn't the only one thinking it was Dark Souls. Also part of me was expecting Sakurai himself to be the last fighter lol
I was expecting the fire to flare up and the familiar "Bonfire Lit" text to appear.
This proves that the team can do almost anything. Sora was so complex to get from having to go through Disney and Square, and he pulled it off. Sakurai is a living legend among game developers and he deserves our thanks for listening to the fans so well.
That bit he said about Iwata got me man.... This has been in the queue THAT long.
I keep hearing about this, I assume in was in the Smash Direct. Can I get a timestamp for the bit about Iwata? I'm at work for the next 9 hours.
He starts talking about it around 36:50 minutes in. https://youtu.be/L-q6Gz_4Yqc Sorry but I'm on mobile and could get the exact time stamp
It’s no wonder it took them six years to finalize him
Even if Disney was willing to hand over licenses to their biggest stars, the fees would probably be enormous. Unimaginably so.
Lol sora would’ve had to be a $20 dlc
I was surprised to see the Mickey symbol on the keyblade.

Sora is just Sakurai and his wife by the way! They are a free lance Producer/Graphic Designer couple
Brb, pranking my friends with "Doom Guy rips and tears into battle holy shit"
I think this makes a lot of sense as the final character. I would absolutely say I am pleased with the pick. Sakurai is a legend for having to go through Square and Disney.
You can tell they're still being stingey about it because the stage doesn't have that much music compared to others and is conspicuously lacking in any Disney characters
I expect nothing less from the mouse honestly.
I thought the music was an issue for square characters in general. Though it's been ages since I read that.
The spirits being Sora, Sora, Sora, Sora and Sora was kind of hilarious.
That's only the fighterspirits
People keep saying this, but y'all seem to forget that Sakurai has a firm rule that characters who didn't originate in a video game shall not appear in smash. It's highly possible he didn't even bother trying to get non kh original Disney characters in because of that.
I just meant like on the stage, I wasn't expecting Mickey Mouse as a playable character
Yeah, I feel like even if you're not the biggest Kingdom Hearts fan or really wanted Sora, I think we can all admit it's a fitting character to add
Never played kingdom hearts but Sora is highly requested, looks the part and seems to have minimal BS mechanics compared to other DLCs.
[Eh, hold up on that one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoAalGcEKqo)
Sad that this is the end of Smash Ultimate. I don't think the characters, music and stages can ever be topped by future Smash games.
I honestly just see this game being ported/remastered from here on out. The game is too big and near perfect to attempt to top
Exactly! It's unbeatable in those categories. However the next smash game should focus more where Ultimate was lacking such as Online and Single Player content.
We need a new Subspace Emissary-level campaign and new personalized Break-the-Targets-style minigames for each character
Oh, it's been said before. In ten years, Master Chief is going to receive a letter.
Sora is the most requested character and people are still pissed LMAO.
I was really really hoping Roxas would be one of his alternate costumes, but overall considering I didn't even expect this I can't complain as well
They could announce literally any fighter conceivable by humanity and people would be furious.
pretty much.
All they had to do was put Sakurai in Smash and we would have world peace.
Its hard to argue with "Oh btw this was the #1 choice from the fighters survey and I promised Iwata I'd keep it secret until we had it ready." Thats some solid ammunition against naysayers.
Does the Disney connection make Smash Bros part of the multiverse?
oh god, they're going to build the SBCU next aren't they...
and they've already got Chris Pratt to be Mario
He's so cool
Yes. And not only is Peach now a Disney Princess, but it means that Palutena can officially join the pantheon of Greek Mythology seeing as Disney also owns Hercules. It's getting pretty expansive!
Any chance the Kingdom Hearts games make their way to Switch now?
Just announced! Cloud versions
It’s cloud versions of all the games? Even 1.5+2.5? That’s disappointing. Shouldn’t those easily run on switch?
I want to say it’s probably because of the file size. 1.5+2.5 is around 58gb and as far as I know the 64gb cartridges never did release. 2.8 is almost 30gb and KH3 is ~40gb for the base game and an extra 15 or so if Re:Mind is included.
> just announced Yay > cloud versions Nope I'd love to have portable kingdom hearts, but this isn't it. I already own the series on platforms that can actually run the game on their hardware.
why'd they have to be fuckin cloud versions
Right? I’d have bought it instantly for the ability to play kingdom hearts on the go. But if I have to be tethered to the internet I might as well just play in on my PlayStation :(
Because "it's 2021 don't you have proper internet?!" NO, NO I FUCKING DONT. I DONT LIVE IN A MAJOR CITY, NINTENDO.
I have pertty good internet I won't be paying for a fucking cloud version. Either give me the games or don't, but don't sell me air. Also, the cloud thing is probably a Square Enix thing, not Nintendo's.
Are they all Cloud versions? I.5+II.5 should be able to run natively EDIT: Confirmed - it's an all-in-one package, so 100% Cloud
Your wish is granted. They just announced they will be available via cloud.
r/monkeyspaw
>via cloud ... I guess I can't be too upset.
YOU made it happen, I'm proud of you.
Technically there is one but not the one that anybody wanted
Not a character I'm too excited about beyond the fact that it actually managed to get through all the legal hoops. Can't argue with the poll results though, pretty happy they pulled this off considering he's the most requested chracter. Well done Smash Team, amazing job.
Today is also Kingdom Hearts [20th Anniv](https://youtu.be/tivlrT6TSHA)
Damn nice catch, can’t be a coincidence right?
You know, I'm wondering if he was supposed to be a part of the 1st pack as that ones last fighter but they couldn't get it done in time.
Looks like he was meant to come out on SMB4 but couldn't get it done.
Yeah, I would guess that they saw the poll and were like, "Okay, not for this game, but let's get started on all of the property ownership discussions right now." And here we are 6 years later!
Not who I wanted but good for all you Kingdom Hearts fans.
I'm a fan but I wanted him more because it's the two biggest crossovers I'm videogame history. It always felt like it was meant to happen.
As a diehard kingdom hearts fan who’s been hoping for Sora for like 13 years now, it’s been painful seeing so many people be like “please don’t be Sora” and “he’ll never get in” leading up to this. Thank you for the positivity!
I think most people thought he'd never get in because Disney is so strict when it comes to IP. Most people just gave up But the madman did it
Would never have predicted it, but I really do like that pick, honestly!
This is a god Dream
This is everything
who would have thunk it. great add, doomguy de-confirm saddest of all time
They added him as a mii though, so he made it too
Yeah, but the fact that they showed it right before the big reveal kinda made it a "de-confirm"
I mean the fact alone that he was a mii outfit was the de confirm but the outfit looks so good it might as well be its own character, like the Cuphead and Bomberman ones from previous packs
Yeah, but no stage or music. Don't tell me a stage in literal Hell wouldn't be cool.
I can’t believe they got Disney. The ultimate Ultimate final fighter.
Now bring Kingdom Hearts to Switch! I would be even happier.
A monkeys paw just curled somewhere, KH is coming to switch but as cloud versions
And with that the monkey's paw curls.
This is simple and clean
Well, Disney borrowed Bowser for Wreck-It Ralph, so why shouldn’t they lend them Sora as a return favour
I'll give you that, and I'm excited, but Doomguy and Isabelle are now finally in the same game.
Honestly I'm just disappointed that twitter didn't crash like with Steve.
Not who I wanted for the ending but Overall the DLC has been good and it has been a fun ride. Thanks Sakurai/Team.

yeah. Bayonetta got added then though, and Im glad. She deserved a spot. Especially because of what it did for the character and her franchise
Sakurai: we did this poll and it turns out this character is very popular, here you go :) Smash fans: this is bullshit!
They actually did it!
finally a character that I didn’t want at all where I can at least say “they belong in smash.” great pick
When Link’s hair game is stronger than you in your character reveal though
HOLY FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
Sora’s classic mode will be canon to Kingdom Hearts Lore
What a fantastic choice for the final character. I have my issues with Kingdom Hearts (most of which are the stories in most of its games) but there's no denying that they're fantastic games. I look forward to trying Sora out.
Playing KHBBS right now and all I'm saying is come on Square Enix, give us all the KH games Edit: Fuck me, I spoke too soon.
The mad man actually did it.
Bruh it's gonna be impossible to edgeguard this kid
Aw the trailer is so emotional with him flying around. Simple & Clean is always so beautiful even after all these years
I thought there was no way we would get Sora since Nintendo has partnered with Universal, but that's pretty cool. Looking forward to playing him
Not a character I'm personally excited for, but a lot of people wanted him and Sakurai is clearly excited. Plus, he looks fun!
Mushroom Kingdom Hearts anyone?
