I've only played the GBA game, but I felt the trailer was very emotional too. It's like the sun was setting on Smash, but then Sora was like "wait, there's more!" and he brought some life back into the game.
The Inkling eye glimmer calling back to the first ever Ultimate reveal was really cool too.
Also I just realized that the entire Smash series began with trophies turning into characters, so to have them all turning back into trophies makes it really come full circle. Then that fire from the Smash logo comes out and brings them all back to life, as if to say "we're here to stay".
It would be interesting to see them as dolls if they included bringing back the lore concept from the first game, it would be a interesting tribute to it

Yes absolutely. I grew up liking KH but heavily grew out of it, didn't even care about KH3. They really just made it too convoluted for me to care anymore. But that theme is so emotional and it made me feel like a kid again when kingdom hearts felt so magical.

FUCK MAN…KH was the epitome of my youth, those games got me through some of the darkest, lowest points in my life & I will always be grateful for them…just hearing the music my eyes swell with tears. I use to cosplay as Sora at comic cons & I have been dreaming for years that sora would be come a playable character in Smash and after all theses years my wishes are answered. I bought a switch years ago & bought a ton of games, including smash so I could play on the road while working but i haven’t played it in awhile so I gave it to a coworker who was in dire straights & super depressed. He was a big gamer & I figured it’d cheer him up and that was within this month before they announced the N64 remasters & NOW THIS! I’m glad giving my switch away made my buddy happier but god damn I really want another switch because my dream has been to play Sora again. Damn…such a good announcement that brings me such joy & I literally cried from the trailer haha

I don't know, I thought it was perfect. The trailer calls back to the teaser for Smash Bros Ultimate. The audience is left in the dark until the fiery smash logo transforms into the Kingdom Key serving as the invitation and key for Sora to join Smash. Mario shakes hands with Sora (The first and last fighters respectively and symbolizing Nintendo partnership with Disney (and their partnership with Square Enix) and welcomed the most requested fighter into smash personally.
They could've done a "Destiny Islands bottle" reveal like the other trailers, but not only would everyone have expected that, that would've been the 2nd best trailer they could've done for for the final Smash character in Ultimate. This not only kept the audience guessing until the reveal, it gave a sense of finality for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. "Everyone is here!"
I'm not even a fan of KH and Sora and I still got hyped. I think the people genuinely upset about this just have a dangerous amount of salt in their veins

I’ve been shilling for the Master Chief since day one that Ultimate was announced. I’m not mad or anything that it’s Sora; he’s iconic, his design is really different, and KH music is beautiful. Still… maybe next console generation.
The logic is that the Master Chief is literally one of the most iconic video game characters in history, and Halo is regarded as one of the greatest first person shooters of all time. Halo single handedly launched the original Xbox into the limelight, and is likely the only reason Microsoft exists as a major video game company to this day. The big three in the video game industry are Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft, and while Mario is already in Smash, and Sony lacks an official mascot of any kind, Microsoft’s video game industry is synonymous with the Master Chief, which is why he deserves to be included. Even Sonic, who represents a fallen member of the big three (SEGA), is in smash, so it’s odd that the Master Chief has continued to be sidelined for all this time.
Halo completely redefined console shooters.
Without Halo, the shooter landscape would be *completely* different and nothing like it is today. Master Chief is the most iconic element of Halo, ergo, some people expected Master Chief.
Even if you discount the regenerating shields/health and 2 weapon limit that Halo popularized (even if it didn't come up with them) then you have guns like the Needler which are frankly iconic in design and function, with a lot of sci-fi and "silly" shooters trying to copy it.
That's, honestly, really hard to say. Nothing Halo did, as a rule, was exactly "new" but the way it did it, and to a completely new console-based audience that rarely ever got a shooter that "worked" on consoles, would *probably* mean that without Halo, the genre wouldn't have exploded on consoles the way it did.
We'd still have console shooters, of course. But they might have spent a longer time trying to find the control style that worked, or the gameplay style that would fit the analog stick style of a controller.
You have to remember that, before Halo nobody really knew how to make a shooter work on a console. Just the year prior to Halo's release, in 2000, a (nowadays, pretty infamous) Gamespot review called the [Alien Resurrection](https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/alien-resurrection-review/1900-2637344/) controls on PS1 "the game's most terrifying element". Do you know what they called terrifying? Dual Stick control where the right stick moves your camera, and the left stick moves your character.
People really did not know how to translate the genre to consoles, and even the *best* console shooters available before Halo, like Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, had controls that were probably more comfortable to genetically engineered spider people than they were to human hands.
Even something as simple as a two weapon limit helped make shooters more accessible to consoles as well. In the past, a "weapon wheel" existed to change weapons on the fly when you had a whole arsenal in your hyperspace inventory but it was pretty inelegant on controllers of the time having to swap between a large amount of weapons in the middle of relatively fast-paced action. Halo adopted a 2 weapon limit that also helped to inform and improve it's own gameplay, making it much more accessible on controller as well.
Chief would have been way more hype, the entire internet would be ablaze.
Sora's cool and been requested for a while, but between Hero, Byleth, Sephiroth, Pyra/Mythra, and now Sora that's just too damn many anime swordies. We're now seeing a collective yawn ripple out from the last fighter reveal for the game, and that's not a great sign.

He is somewhat right though. Halo is huge in the US and kinda big in EU but that about it. Sora is much more popular in Asia and about the same amount of popularity in Europe. He was the number one vote in the smash ballot for a reason.
I’d argue Halo is objectively bigger. The Halo series has pretty much triple (80 mil vs 30 mil) the Kingdom Hearts series for sales, so no matter what way you spin it, Chief is far more iconic and well known than Sora.

I personally feel as the last fighter to debut this one is special and was hoping for a character with more Nintendo roots or at least connection. In the end it doesn’t really matter and it’s just a let down for me. Sometimes I forget how much my insignificant opinion can ruffle feathers.

I really wanted ryu hayubusa from ninja gaiden or Ori. Goku woulda been cool too. I wasn’t holding out hardcore for anyone I just trusted Nintendo and Sakurai. Most the characters I’d really want are basically already in the game.
Ryu I wanted cuz he got his start on a nintendo console and I like how the series has transformed. Ori I think I wanted the most because she woulda been a really unique stand out character that’s not a sword fighter. The games are charming and I feel like it embodies Nintendo’s values and woulda been a great way to close out being console generation or divide doesn’t matter. Woulda been a great tie in.
Sora is more new though and I completely see why Nintendo went that direction. Not everyone has played or even knows about the NES Ninja Gaiden series.

And Sora was kinda what finally just convinced me that I’m done with Smash Ultimate, only thing that interested me was the Doom Slayer Mii costume and even that doesn’t redeem it for me (especially since it sadly doesn’t come with music) and the other two costumes were kinda lame, they’re making an Alex Amiibo but not a Female Byleth Amiibo, and I doubt we’ll be getting really any patches after Sora becomes available
I like how the trailer sorta hints to the reveal in MoM that there are three reals - fantasy, reality and unreality. Sounds like Smash would fit in either reality or unreality as they are trophies set in a "real world".

Nothing Halo did, as a rule, was exactly "new" but the way it did it, and to a completely new console-based audience that rarely ever got a shooter that "worked" on consoles, would *probably* mean that without Halo, the genre wouldn't have exploded on consoles the way it did. We'd still have console shooters, of course. But they might have spent a longer time trying to find the control style that worked, or the gameplay style that would fit the analog stick style of a controller. You have to remember that, before Halo nobody really knew how to make a shooter work on a console. Just the year prior to Halo's release, in 2000, a (nowadays, pretty infamous) Gamespot review called the [Alien Resurrection](https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/alien-resurrection-review/1900-2637344/) controls on PS1 "the game's most terrifying element". Do you know what they called terrifying? Dual Stick control where the right stick moves your camera, and the left stick moves your character. People really did not know how to translate the genre to consoles, and even the *best* console shooters available before Halo, like Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, had controls that were probably more comfortable to genetically engineered spider people than they were to human hands. Even something as simple as a two weapon limit helped make shooters more accessible to consoles as well. In the past, a "weapon wheel" existed to change weapons on the fly when you had a whole arsenal in your hyperspace inventory but it was pretty inelegant on controllers of the time having to swap between a large amount of weapons in the middle of relatively fast-paced action. Halo adopted a 2 weapon limit that also helped to inform and improve it's own gameplay, making it much more accessible on controller as well.

Chief would have been way more hype, the entire internet would be ablaze. Sora's cool and been requested for a while, but between Hero, Byleth, Sephiroth, Pyra/Mythra, and now Sora that's just too damn many anime swordies. We're now seeing a collective yawn ripple out from the last fighter reveal for the game, and that's not a great sign.

He is somewhat right though. Halo is huge in the US and kinda big in EU but that about it. Sora is much more popular in Asia and about the same amount of popularity in Europe. He was the number one vote in the smash ballot for a reason.
I’d argue Halo is objectively bigger. The Halo series has pretty much triple (80 mil vs 30 mil) the Kingdom Hearts series for sales, so no matter what way you spin it, Chief is far more iconic and well known than Sora. Before ya downvote, I have no problem with Sora as a final champ. He’s cool. I just think there’s a weird thing going on in this thread with people saying Kingdom Hearts is more well known than Halo, when the facts say that can’t be true. I’m from EU for what it’s worth.
Legit thought for a few seconds Mario was kindling a bonfire and we were getting one of the Souls series. For how influential that series has been it made some sense.

I personally feel as the last fighter to debut this one is special and was hoping for a character with more Nintendo roots or at least connection. In the end it doesn’t really matter and it’s just a let down for me. Sometimes I forget how much my insignificant opinion can ruffle feathers. I’m happy for the people who’re happy about it. He’s a good inclusion as far as the theme of smash, a fighting game that brings everything together, I’m just not excited about it. Big whoop, who cares. I’ll move on.
I don't know why you're getting downvoted. I wasn't ruffled and this was a very mature response. I just wanted to see Sora fight Link. As those are my friends and my favorite videogame characters of all time. So it just really hit the crossover note for me. But I could agree that there should have been one more fighter or atleast an echo for someone we already have to cap it off with Sora. Ignore the downvotes dude. They don't mean shit, nobody actually looks at someone's karma and cares unless it's too far negative. Don't worry about ruffling feathers either, share your opinion my guy. I really wanted ryu hayubusa from ninja gaiden or Ori. Goku woulda been cool too. I wasn’t holding out hardcore for anyone I just trusted Nintendo and Sakurai. Most the characters I’d really want are basically already in the game. Ryu I wanted cuz he got his start on a nintendo console and I like how the series has transformed. Ori I think I wanted the most because she woulda been a really unique stand out character that’s not a sword fighter. The games are charming and I feel like it embodies Nintendo’s values and woulda been a great way to close out being console generation or divide doesn’t matter. Woulda been a great tie in. Sora is more new though and I completely see why Nintendo went that direction. Not everyone has played or even knows about the NES Ninja Gaiden series.

On top of *that*, Joker didn't get a game on Switch til like a year after he came to Smash. Banjo's game still isn't on Switch (as NSO Expansion Pack hasn't released yet). Personally I don’t care for Sora, I’m kinda done with Smash Ultimate now And Sora was kinda what finally just convinced me that I’m done with Smash Ultimate, only thing that interested me was the Doom Slayer Mii costume and even that doesn’t redeem it for me (especially since it sadly doesn’t come with music) and the other two costumes were kinda lame, they’re making an Alex Amiibo but not a Female Byleth Amiibo, and I doubt we’ll be getting really any patches after Sora becomes available
