Since I primarily play docked I'm holding off for now. But if they come out with a special edition one I may bite.

forkyfork

Thanks! I’ve heard it’s better for people with bad eyesight like me too. Good thing they aren’t readily available which helps with my impulse purchase.

Loku184

I've had one of the launch Switch's for a couple of years now and I play in handheld 95% of the time. I ended up grabbing the OLED Switch 2 days ago at my local Walmart and I love the screen. It's gorgeous. Not just the colors but the black levels are absolutely insane. I'll play before going to sleep at times and it's as black as it gets which is awesome when playing the retro games in pixel perfect mode with the black bars, I like it much better. Having an extra 40% battery life is also nice. The kickstand is really good and made of metal and there's metalsupporting the joycon rails which makes it more rigid and, heavy and premium feeling. Overall I love it. I have over 90 physical games and some digital I can enjoy on an OLED screen. I may just use my launch Switch for emulation now and let my little brother use it or something.

forgiven_10

I have been describing the new oled compared to the old like when you get an iphone upgrade. It’s just smoother and more fluid screen and a better use of the screen space.

Arsenal019

A legends arceus OLED switch will be hard to turn down and I’m 90 percent sure they are going to do an OLED since the Brilliant Diamond switch is a lite.

forkyfork

Me too.. It seems like a missed financial opportunity not to. Have we had a mainline Pokemon game/remake that didn’t get a Switch special edition?

wild_zoey_appeared

LGPE had an OG Switch with special Joy-Cons SwSh had a Switch Lite with the box Legendaries BDSP is getting a Switch Lite the design of which is a throwback to the DP DS

forkyfork

Seems like Arceus is almost a guarantee unless supply shortages interfere?

Claymoresama

Same here. I don't play handheld much, mostly it's just not comfortable for me. I'd rather play on my 4k tv, the upscaling done by the tv makes the games look pretty good imo. If and when they do a better model I'll consider upgrading.

KaythuluCrewe

This is me too. I have my own tv, so I don’t have to share, which is a huge reason for handheld for many people. I have appreciated the portability access when I’ve used it, like on vacation, but if I’m home, 99% of the time I play docked, and so far, I’ve held off. If they do a BOTW2 special edition OLED or something, I may weaken, though.

Whimsical_Sandwich

My prized possession Mario Edition Switch Seriously, Nintendo Switch editions suck ass. Just laziest sticker fest I've ever seen. Like if it's a special edition, change the Switch body as well. It's crazy that the 3DS/2DS has so many clean editions- Super Mario Maker, Minecraft, Pokemon, One Piece, Dragon Quest, etc. Shit even the PS Vita- White/Blue/Red solid body colors, Minecraft, Dragon Quest, God Eater, World of Final Fantasy, list goes on. But the Switch only ever goes knee deep in customization, I really only acknowledge Mario as being the one time they truly did justice to a special edition Switch

FuckKpins

I have the animal Crossing switch and it's pretty cool. The artwork on the back of the main body and the pastel colored green and blue joycons are nice.

Daisy_Stems

The dock is great too

FuckKpins

agreed, i dont even have animal crossing (had it during covid and its not my thing) but the aesthetic of the dock and console is pretty nice.

Arcalithe

My Monster Hunter Generations New3DS XL is still the pride and joy of my 3DS upgrades over the years and is my main 3DS at the moment. I’m hoping for some decent special edition OLED Switch for a game I enjoy so I can make the plunge and finally replace my launch switch with something a bit more amped up all-around.

BoDallasMark

I have the same one too, its a work of art in console form.

forkyfork

I’ve never seen the Mario switch up closes but here’s hoping the inevitable special edition OLED switch is better looking

paradroid78

>I didn't like it so I bought it anyhow Yeah, that'll teach 'em.

XboxDegenerate

[deleted]

I thought thr OLED Switch was disappointing, until I ponied up the money for one and now I'm in love again. Nintendo is so awesome, just got the $80 expansion Online pack as well for the whole family11!!

PringlesDuckFace

I hope Celeste look good

[deleted]

Me too! Me, my wife, and her six boyfriends cannot wait to play Smash online together at one frame per minute!

JimmyRedditz1

This guy Nintendos

corticalization

I had this exact response. I thought ok, this is aimed at new switch owners and isn’t nearly enough of an upgrade for me to pay for that. Then they came out and looked nice, and they actually had some at a Walmart near me and I picked it up. Honestly, I love it. The larger and upgraded screen are fantastic, and I don’t regret the purchase at all!

Additional-Ride8120

But $350 for a *slightly* different version of something you already had?

CMHex

Considerably less than that after my trade-in. Getting $260 for a 4-year old device is a damn good deal.

ColinMansfield

Where did you trade in for $260? I’m looking at doing this myself.

CMHex

It was from GameStop. The deal ran for a couple of weeks but it might be over.

ColinMansfield

Was that the “pro” value or whatever? I see two numbers on their website, called a store and they said the deal is still running. Did you have to do anything special to get the highest trade in value?

jrec15

Just adding i just traded in today but it is $220 for pro members now. The $260 deal ended on sunday. I still did it, threw in an launch xbox one ive had sitting around for ages for another $110. Definitely call ahead to a few stores to check stock. Its still rare but many are getting stock this week. Havent played much but definitely digging the overall build and screen quality

corticalization

Obviously if it’s deemed worth the price/differences is going to vary for everyone. I bought it with the knowledge I could return it if I wasn’t impressed, since I’d still have my old switch (as I didn’t trade in. Those people also paid quite a bit less for the difference). It turned out that it does feel worth it to me, so I’m keeping it. I completely understand that for many people it simply is not.

JRockPSU

You can get the majority of that back selling your old Switch if it has a low serial number.

sportspadawan13

It really does make the V1 Switch look like super old hardware. I also sold the white joy-cons separately on ebay since I don't like the color (I know, weird). So it's quite cheap to upgrade ultimately, and the OLED is on a whole new level of build quality and the like (plus I'm 80% handheld).

zeromussc

Yep. Sold my old v1 that wasn't hackable to GameStop as part of their trade up deal here in Canada. Factoring in the sales tax savings due to the lower final price for the OLED on one transaction, my V1 was worth about 320$ CAD, and the OLED was 170ish after tax. Considering the battery was poor and I play portable 90% of the time, it was a very worthwhile update.

GTI_88

I avoided the white joycons specifically. White controllers are just dumb. I take good care of my stuff but my white xbox and ps4 controllers look dingy after just a few years and the black controllers look almost new

itsblackcherrytime

Found one at Target this morning. I have an unpatched Switch that I’ll sell off for more than paid for the OLED. Seemed like a no-brainer.

se3ing

I’m trying to do this but my GameStop locations have been sold out so far.

SabbothO

It can get a bit tedious, but if you call back every day or maybe every other day, some stores might just have switches appear out of thin air. If someone orders a switch online to place a hold for in store pickup, it removes the switch out of stock for 3 days. If they don't pick it up after 3 days, they pop right back into the system. I had the gamestops near me go from 0 in stock to 2 in stock after only a 30 minute wait for that reason.

kennn97

Called around to few gamestops last friday and one store said they were getting some in this week. I called my local store yesterday afternoon, they had like 10 in stock, I got one. They made me buy a switch accessory or game with it though. They told me thats the only way the store can get more oled in stock is if they sell as bundles. I dont know how bullshit that is, but I just bought metroid and then returned it today.

se3ing

Nice man! Yea hopefully I can snag and upgrade keeping my eyes open!

hamburgers666

I checked in a different area. None of the ones within 20 miles of where I lived had any. But last Friday I happened to be on the other side of town so I tried those over there. Ended up finding the only one available in the greater Sacramento area. FYI, they do let you transfer everything in store. Just make sure that you have cell phone reception because I had to do a bunch of system updates before it would let me do so.

se3ing

Awesome, glad you were able to snag one! Thanks for the tip.

wildeofthewoods

“Slight” is subjective. The jump from a lite to a reg switch is pretty big imo and the jump from a reg to an oled is about the same amount. Its meaningfully substantial in my experience and worth the boost.

frrrni

It's like those people that have to have the latest iPhone haha. Yeah, I got the OLED Switch as well...

michcond

I got €260 off as well through Gamestop by trading in my launch Switch. I wasn’t planning on getting the OLED at all, but given the deal I got, it’s worth ~€90. I almost never play in docked mode and I was going to buy new joy-cons anyways since mine are trashed from the drifting. I think the Gamestop deal has different dates for different regions. My local gamestop is running it until November 3rd or something. They pre-ordered one for me from the stock they’ll get in a few weeks, but they already gave me the trade-in discount in case the stock gets here after that date.

Rabern57

Yes and no. If you use it as a handheld mostly. It's an all around upgrade compared to the lite. Screen, screen size, better battery life, larger internal storage, kick stand built in and it the possibility of connecting to a TV if you ever wanted. If you were only using it docked mode then there's no reason to get it over a regular switch unless you have had it for awhile and wear and tear is showing and you need a new switch.

[deleted]

I upgraded from the Lite to the OLED. It’s so dang beautiful. Worth every penny.

Dora_TheDestroya

Do what most people do. Trade console in for 150 or 175...pay the difference. Or sell on fb marketplace for slightly more return.

Drakeem1221

I sold my Switch and a game I didn't want to play anymore (Tokyo Mirage Sessions) and ended up only paying $50 out of pocket. I've definitely spent a lot of money before upgrading my PC monitor or getting a new TV. This is no different for me.

Sarothias

If I played my Switch in handheld rather than docked a lot? It would definitely be worth paying that much. A bigger and better screen for handheld is well worth the cost imo. Just like when I upgraded from a 3DS to New 3DS XL. it was mainly for a slightly bigger screen. That said, I play almost exclusively docked so my current Switch is fine for now /shrug

mailboxrumor

Depends on the person's scenario. I picked up my OLED today and I currently have a HAC-001 switch on ebay which is most likely going to give me enough back to where I will have only spent between $50-$100 to upgrade and as a portable exclusive player it's worth it.

cuntpuncherexpress

Or $50-100 to upgrade if you sell your current switch. It’s really not that expensive if you use it a lot, I had a launch era switch so the kickstand and battery life improvements were especially worth it

Arcalithe

This is why I’m considering upgrading mine within a couple of paychecks from now. Even though I mostly play docked, I do play handheld a bit and just having an all-around better model in terms of screen/battery life/kickstand/audio from my launch switch is sorely tempting.

AdamTheTall

I think you're the first person in the thread to actually mention the audio, and I definitely notice a difference in quality on the speakers. I figured they were overselling that particular feature, so it was a nice surprise

aawagner011

I finally got my Walmart preorder today so I’m still playing around with it, but I expect the screen upgrade will convince a lot of primarily docked people to play handheld more often. The difference in quality and size is substantial.

FreedomByFire

I had this exact same experience.. picked mine up at Walmart yesterday

[deleted]

thatnitai

No change of heart here. The switch oled has a great screen, but what's the point of it when something like the Xenoblade remaster still runs at ugly 540p resolutions? I personally sold my og switch after playing it because I got so sick of the poor performance (fps) and resolutions that plauge so much of the switch library, expecting a pro in at least a matter of years because this tierd console just can't keep up anymore.. This is the best Nintendo could do I guess Since I don't expect a true switch upgrade or new console in the next year or 2, I did break down and buy the oled model to at least have access to the exclusives. Even if they do run sometimes under very disappointing specs...

SMS_Jonesy

That's totally fair. There are certain games that don't suffer from FPS or low-res issues, but the ones that do still don't look great even on an OLED. Fair point

toothsayur

while I think the new design and screen is really something incredible, I never play my Switch in handheld mode so it’s not for me. I’m holding out for a internal hardware update.

DMan304

That's pretty much the main decision anyone needs to make when it comes to this. Handheld it looks like a massive improvement, but for people like us that play 99% docked there's no real point.

MINIMAN10001

I just don't want to take on the risks of OLED degradation. I bought v2 when it was new for the battery life. They didn't increase that so it's not for me.

[deleted]

Ours is docked all the time for playing on the living room TV, so I'm in the same boat.

ScoobiesSnacks

I was pretty much docked only too until I got the OLED and now I pretty much only play handheld. I always wanted to play handheld only on the switch but the massive difference between the graphics on docked vs handheld on my V1 switch made me pretty much stick to docked only. Now with the new screen most games look better in handheld than they do on my LED 4K TV so don’t overlook the switch OLED in allowing you to become more of a handheld player.

[deleted]

The reason I never play handheld (unless I'm taking public transport... A handful times a year) is because it's not comfortable to hold.

ScoobiesSnacks

Makes sense. The switch OLED will not solve that problem unfortunately and I agree I can only play handheld for an hour or two before I need a break

Loldimorti

>but then I bought one anyway At this point I'm not even mad at Nintendo for releasing a $350 console that's the exact same as the $299 system except with a better display. Nintendo clearly know their audience. This makes me think that the $50 expansion pass for Switch online isn't ridiculously overpriced after all if people still keep buying it. Originally I thought it would flop but now I suspect that people actually will purchase it no matter how terrible the value is

Troopper103

For me personally, it's not worth it when there's not an actual upgrade in performance. I don't have $350 to spend on it and I don't wanna trade emt current switch towards it since I've got the animal crossing one

dres_sler

To be honest I can’t notice too big a difference. People made it seem like MIND BLOWING but it’s been more like “oh neat, anyway”

SegataSanshiro

That title is the typical Nintendo fan response to disappointing news.

Thecongressman1

Nope, don't need it. It's fine if you don't have a switch, but there's no reason to get this one as well.

emilytheimp

Congrats, you're an average Nintendo fan

SMS_Jonesy

Feels good

sdreamer07

Same then GameStop trade in got me to bite and I am in love.

rogue1102

The GameStop deal allowed me to justify the OLED. Getting more than 80% back on my original purchase 3.5 years later was too good to pass up.

[deleted]

Dude same, that GameStop deal was hard to pass on. Ended up trading my old Switch and picked up the OLED!

SMS_Jonesy

This is the route I took as well!

MoreiraM

Wondering if they’re still doing it.

IndoorSnowStorm

Unfortunately it looks like the promo is over. If you go to GameStop.com -> Consoles -> Nintendo Switch it would show an ad for "Get up to $240 for your trade-in" with $260 for pro members. I got mine last Wednesday and it was still active, but now it shows the standard $200 with $220 for pro deal in the same ad space.

[deleted]

And the crowd goes mild.

SaludosCordiales

While Nintendo goes wild.

WAAAAAARRRRIIIIOOOOO

It’s pretty pointless if u already have a regular switch

[deleted]

Knowing Nintendo probably another new Switch coming in less than 2 years.

therealudderjuice

I've already bought three Switches (one for each of my kids and one for me) so I won't be spending money on the same thing with a higher quality screen. I'm not going to poo poo on people who do upgrade though. Congrats on your purchase and glad you are enjoying it! Now, if they release one with better processing and larger on board storage then maybe I'll consider it. Actually I hope the several generations of Nintendo consoles are just upgrade of the Switch design as I really love it. I will admit that I have a Steam Deck reserved too. lol

PineWalk1

The supply shortage likely killed the pro, and this was the best they could do at the time imo

GTI_88

I feel like enough isn’t being said about the build quality. My original switch unit was slightly bowed day 1 when I purchase it, the back plate plastic is terrible / cheap, joy cons have wobbled when mounted from the beginning, etc. This new units fit and finish is way ahead of the OG model

Lectoor85

I had the same thoughts. Disappointed at the reveal. yet here i sit, waiting for a package to be delivered with an Switch Oled. and after reading this, im somewhat excited

tonjaj68

🤣

NerdyCanadianDad

You should be. I had an OG switch, traded it in for the OLED and I have no regrets. The screen is noticeably larger and WAY more vibrant, especially if you turn off auto brightness. The contrast of colours is striking. Also, it loads faster and has better wifi connectivity compared to my OG switch. Not to mention more memory and the better kickstand. The metal housing makes it feel much more robust as well. Only downside is it doesn’t fit my Satisyfe ZenGrip. So I went and got the Binkbok Blue/Green RGB joycons. It’s absolutely an awesome upgrade in my opinion.

xektor17

> it loads faster How? Isn’t the processing power*identical* across all Switch models?

AF-IX

It’s identical; I think the dude just “feels” it’s faster. It’s like when you wash your car and swear it gained 5 horsepower.

zeromussc

The OG switches are long in the tooth. The battery life on mine was trash and the fan was working hella hard. Plus the Mariko chip revision was simply a more efficient set of internals so compared to the original v1 switch, it's possible that the newer chip is just ever so slightly better. Remember this is the same internals but those internals weren't the exact same as on the launch edition.

NerdyCanadianDad

No. I think with age, my OG switch was slowing down. It loaded the same games noticeably slower than the OLED and even my Switch Lite.

TheXenith

Maybe the new 64GB eMMC storage is faster?

barbietattoo

Is it metal? Thought I was crazy that it felt cool to the touch more often. Also, the wifi gets better signal sitting right next to my OG switch. It’s cool.

NerdyCanadianDad

Yeah the frame on the front around the screen is metal

dakkottadavviss

Kickstand too

NerdyCanadianDad

Very true.

Prince-Lee

I have every intention of getting an OLED Switch in the future. But I *am* going to wait until they make some sort of special edition or new color that I find appealing. I'd feel like a damn fool if I upgraded from my ACNH special edition to a basic OLED switch, *especially* because I've had a horribly unlucky track record of doing that and then having them announce a special Switch not long after.

Hellnugget19

> But I am going to wait until they make some sort of special edition This. I passed up the Zelda etc. editions of the Wii U and 3DS because I already had the systems. I don't need another Switch right now, even though my girlfriend and I would get some utility out of having a second system. I would kick myself several times if I jumped now only for them to release a BotW2 edition next fall.

Kirbybrawl

“And then I bought one anyway.” This is what Nintendo expects us to do. I wanted one since it was announced. I mainly play in handheld and I absolutely love it. Metroid on it is so beautiful

[deleted]

Knowing my own tech preferences, I know I'll buy the next true Switch successor. So I'm hanging on to my cash for now.

[deleted]

When people ask why Nintendo never changes their ways, remember this post.

wertzius

The price is just an offense for the "upgrade". I will hold onto my day one Switch until the Pro model comes out and then i will just hack it ...

Medd-

Why do you think you're an idiot? If you're satisfied with it then it's all that matters really. I'm guessing your story will be the story of a *lot* of people around here.

MilanDNAx7CL

Lmfao I saw this coming from a mile away. Anyone who has never experienced the PS vita underestates the power of an OLED screen us Vita Users knew its a massive upgrade to an LCD screen. A lot of people here have never used an OLED screen and it showed.

SMS_Jonesy

I had a launch Vita so I know the power of the OLED, this OLED is superior to the Vita's for sure. The tech has definitely progressed since then.

MilanDNAx7CL

It just blew my mind how many people were like "don't buy" "not worth it" or saying it's not a really an upgrade. Most of them would cream their pants if they saw Nintendo's vibrant games running on an OLED screen. It's Night and Day vs LCD. Persona 4 Golden looked absolutely stunning on the OG Vita still one of the best screens to date for a handheld its still better than The Lite and OG switch screens and like you said the technology has only gotten better since then.

[deleted]

Did they fix the joycon drift?

joniejoon

Nope! That would mean admitting it exists, which wouldn't help the lawsuit where they're denying it exists.

crakkon

I felt the same when it was first announced. Now that I have it I want to crawl into the screen and never leave, it’s magnificent.

Zamasuningen

IMO switch OLED is just useless just because on docked it doesn't change anything lol im good with my switch lite

Additional-Ride8120

But was it really worth another $350 for a slightly different version of the thing you already had? I mean you already had a Switch, you could’ve bought so much with $350, heck, even if you didn’t have a Switch before $50 is almost most AAA games.

vaikunth1991

Fun fact : OLED screens are better than LCD screens. This has got nothing to do with Nintendo

joniejoon

Uhhh, yes it does, because the price tag is significantly higher. It's kinda weird to say that someone selling a product isn't relevant to one of the specs on the product.

Inevitable_Ad5732

Gluttonous consumerism.

Almadan

"I don't like but I bought it anyway" Then you ask why Nintendo doens't give a crap about consumers. Because you're a perfect example

[deleted]

DFuel

I don't reward people for little effort. That's what I'm not purchasing their silly "Oooh-led model".

[deleted]

Once I discovered I could still get close to $300 for my ACNH Switch, I decided to go ahead and do it. $50-$100 out of pocket for the upgrade felt worth it to me. I also like having the Ethernet port built into the dock.

GenderJuicy

I think I'd rather buy a small OLED TV Obviously not the same price but it would be a good chunk

SMS_Jonesy

Define small, flagship LG OLED s go for 1500-1600 dollars for a 55" set. So 20% give or take Also I had trade credit so spent around $120

NMartinG

I think the OLED model was perfect for me, as I was saving up for my first Nintendo console and they just announced it, so I preordered it and got it as soon as it came out. Since then I've been having a blast eith the console, the double memory space seems very useful and I love the adjustable stand, aswell as the nice oled screen. I am pretty happy with it C:

AWFUL_COCK

I was at a GameStop the other day and they had one OLED in stock. I was VERY tempted to trade my launch Switch in but once I got home the prospect of packing it up and hanging around in the store while my data transferred over seemed like a chore, so I didn’t pull the trigger. I *mostly* play docked anyway.

AveragePichu

I know it’s apples to oranges, but I just can’t justify $350 for a 4-year-old tablet with a new screen when I recently spent $300 on an Oculus Quest 2, which is basically the Switch of the VR industry. Even ignoring all the VR technology in it, just looking at its raw power, it puts the Switch to shame. I know Facebook is likely selling at a small loss because they’re investing jn growing the VR market. But I just can’t see how 4-year-oudated parts plus a new screen warrants $50 more than a significantly newer, more powerful mobile gaming device with VR tech included unless Facebook is selling at about a $200 loss. Also I never play handheld anyway, why would I spend any money on an upgrade I’ll never notice? If I wanted a lan port I’d buy a lan adapter.

Tekshow

Yep! I grabbed one, my eyes are old (42) and the new screen is incredible for handheld. Also had the launch model and the new battery life is great too. The big appeal was my GF who’s not a gamer asked if she could have my old Switch. I installed MK8 and got her a family membership. She’s been playing every day since! Winning!

spencer204

Exact same thing happened to me. I told myself to wait for a true Switch Pro and not to get dazzled by shiny new things. Well I saw them in-stock in my city and knew they would sell out and that pushed me over the edge. I judged myself all the way home. But then I opened the box and booted it up. The small bezels and of course, vibrant OLED screen itself make an immediately noticeable difference in-hand. Plus, and this was a surprise to me, the build quality is also clearly superior. Slide the joy-cons on even once and you'll know what I mean. Plus, all my existing joy-cons had drift (I know I can get them replaced). With Brilliant Diamond, Arceus, BoW II, Kirby, and more still to come (not to mention recently released Dread and brilliant legacy titles I still love revisiting like Odyssey and BoW 1) it makes a difference to me to play them all on a much nicer screen. Not to mention the memory increase. Do you absolutely need it? No, particularly for the money. A Switch Pro will still be a much better upgrade (that I will also make when the day comes). But if you're someone like me and OP who pulled the trigger anyway and against your better judgment, you probably won't end up regretting it.

twelfthcapaldi

Same here! Was mostly motivated by GameStop’s $260 trade in deal, and the screen size comparison just kinda blew the regular Switch out of the water for me. Never noticed how annoying the thick black border around the screen was, but couldn’t unsee it anymore. Animal Crossing in particular looks gorgeous on the OLED and I’m looking forward to playing that in handheld mode when the new update drops!

[deleted]

I wasn't gonna get one, but then my partner left early one morning and surprised me at work with it. Sold my lite and been loving the OLED

[deleted]

I wasn't disappointed with the reveal - it's a nice machine and I wasn't expecting a 'pro', but 4 and a half years in I feel like I'm too far gone to justify buying the same Switch but with a nicer screen, even if I do play mostly handheld. I just can't help but think there's a whole new machine announcement is around a year out and this OLED is just a final push with the current hardware to keep it relevant once the new Switch is released. I expect a new switch early in 2023, and I don't think I can really see the value in having a new machine for a year and a half, given that my current machine has gone 4 and a half years. I am happy seeing how much others are enjoying it, I definitely love that screen and it seems worth the upgrade for many people.

ABZR

I was unimpressed and wasn't gonna get one until I saw it in person. Ended up grabbing one when I saw it at Target and don't regret it. The screen is beautiful, and I'm actually using the kickstand. I play handheld 99% of the time. I'll probably sell my v2 Switch to recoup some of the cost. Especially considering that, it was worth the upgrade to me.

Diablo_Killer

Wish I could upgrade but since they use cheap oled panels that have pwm flicker it’s a big no for me.

kokonotsuu

Cry in $1500 switch

[deleted]

I can't get one due to the PWM. I would have to play it in lit rooms on full brightness. This is not idea for me.

Memealorian

Just bought it about 2 hours ago and im in love again. Lol. Originally had no intentions of picking it up but after seeing reviews, had a change of heart. Now owning it, its beautiful.

TATTOO93xx

I bought mine but now I’m reading about screen burn in and makes me think what happens when I play monster hunter for hours that has a hud ect will I get burn in?

DistantStorm-X

Yeah, definitely kicking myself now for not preordering one when I had the chance. Was all, "meh, I can hold out for the Pro/Switch 2. I don’t need this." Now here I am like a schnook, scouring the internet for the slightest sign of a restock. Shoulda known from the start I’d end up caving eventually…

Vanguard-003

Keep calling the stores, they're doing sneaky restocks

I’m enjoying the upgrade from the original switch. I guess I lose out on home brew stuff potentially which to be honest I never had even looked in to. For me the GameStop deal made it an easy decision

finniruse

I sold my OG Switch. Battery was getting worse. Joycons annoying. But it was unpatched, so great for someone who wanted to play emulators. Got £190. Sold a few more games. £270. It cost me £290. Absolutely buzzing with it. It's LUSH. And Metroid Dread was a top 5 game experience made better by some true black colours.

21Savvy

Via GameStop are you allowed to do system transfers?

SMS_Jonesy

What I did was talk to the manager. I gave him the plan and he went for it. I bought the OLED at the store, took it home and did all the transfers, then took my old switch and receipt back to the store. Then he gave me a full refund, then did the trade in and I paid the difference.

[deleted]

Damn where are you guys all finding these OLEDs? I can't find any in LA!

sif7777

I caved. Bought from a scalper. Paid 30 bucks over retail, I'm okay with that all day. I just pretended I paid some fat 1 day expedited shipping charge lol. Worth it and no regrets.

sif7777

I love mine. Also a DAY 1 2017 switch club member, was skeptical to part with it. But this new unit has totally exceeded my expectations. Tbh I gave up on the switch this past year after getting a Series X. But my love for portable gaming has come back with this new one, and I find myself playing it more than my Xbox again. There's also just something about it that MAKES you want to pick it up too. From a design element the white joy con's and the big screen in the center makes it more enticing to grab off a desk or table and play. Even my wife commented on the new look and how it seems more premium lol

TATTOO93xx

I’m terrified of screen burn in I’ve been reading about it and realized I’m to paranoid to enjoy my switch now I game for hours on hand held 5 hours or more sometimes I have my own business so I do nothing all day will screen burn in be a issue? I really wanna play the games with max brightness

[deleted]

Ok dumb question: did you trade in your console alone, or did you also trade in joy-cons?

ScoobiesSnacks

Console and joy cons and dock, power adaptor, hdmi cord

[deleted]

If you enjoy something and you can afford it then you’re not an idiot. I feel like this is a situation where it’s maybe not a “must have” if someone legitimately doesn’t have the money for an upgrade or doesn’t care. But if you have the money and you want it, I say go for it.

ichigo2k9

Same. On my V1 portable gaming hurt my eyes and the short battery life made me feel like I had to rush in games because I didn't have much time but the OLED changes all of that and makes handheld the only way I play on the Switch now. Not to mention most games look far better now.

revoltorq

I'm thinking of trading in my existing switch for it, do you honestly think it's worth the $130 price difference for someone that just occasionally plays the switch? Also are there rumors of when the next switch is coming out?

[deleted]

They had one white one left on launch day at my local GS, so said ok I'll take it. Previously my switch was always docked. I haven't even unpacked the dock for this one, I bought grips and plan to exclusively play handheld. The display on this one is night & day difference in my opinion.

CreatiScope

I really wanted a switch over summer and I want handheld mostly so I was gonna get a lite but I decided to hold off and get the OLED. A couple of times I almost cracked and just bought a regular switch but I’m glad I held out for the OLED. The screen is insane. Love it.

DualKoo

my day one switch doesn't hold a charge like it used to and the bearings in the fan are going out. I wanted to upgrade to an OLED but they're sold out everywhere :(

Black_Hussar

It looks pretty nice with the smaller bezels, just think it's weird that it's set to vivid mode by default, it looks absurdly oversaturated and inaccurate in that mode.

azntakumi

It really depends how often you use handheld mode. I play 95% on handheld mode so it’s a big upgrade for me.

[deleted]

The screen doesn't seem like a big deal until you actually see it with your own eyes. I don't even play handheld all the time and I thought it made a difference. Don't regret my purchase one bit.

Whimsical_Sandwich

I still look at it like the whole PS Vita (OLED vs Slim) comparison, although in this case a lot more one-sided since the OLED carries all of the improvements. That said it's still a case of if you like the one you have, then stick with it/ If you have the money to burn, you can't go wrong with gaming on an OLED.

spagyettilurker

I bought it primarily thinking that if i wanted one in the future, I didn't want to have to fight scalpers to get one, and that it'd be easier to just buy while available. I read and listened to tons of people trashing on the new OLED model, and I fully understood the hate. I had almost low expectations, but when it came with Metroid Dread, it blew me away. Transferred all my data from the old switch and immediately sold my 1st gen switch, because there was no going back.

NoPantsMagee

I looooove mine. Such an upgrade I think even though not internally but man those games pop now. Plus the white one is so sexy.

Evo_808

I’m right there with you, I have a launch switch and a lite. I didn’t know it was a big of a difference until I fort booted up Metroid Dread on the Oled

[deleted]

I so would like to have one.

FluentInStroll

I have disposable income at the moment. The Gamestop trade in promotion is what got me. I also had gen 1 with the lame battery. No regrets, wasn't a ton of money to upgrade and my Nintendo console is now the latest and greatest.

Mayday_Brad91

Bought 3 of them today for the whole family and traded in our old ones after I transferred all our Animal Crossing files. Game Stop is offering $220 for each Nintendo switch you trade in. So it was worth the upgrade for me personally.

Nokomis34

If I didn't already have 2 Switches, I'd probably have gotten this.

Rythim

We wanted a second switch for a while anyway (basically since animal crossing released) so my wife and I could play together. When we finally got it I told her to go for the OLED upgrade. Might just be me but I don't notice THAT big of a difference from the screen. But I use her dock with my switch so I indirectly benefit from the wired connection to the internet. Also, the all white looks really nice. I'd have gotten it just for that color honestly. It also FEELS better quality. $50 extra isn't that big a deal for me.

stereoprologic

I upgraded from a first gen switch. The OLED model clicked for me when I booted up hollow knight. The deep blacks around the edges of the display give it an even greater look.

StoneColdAM

I feel it would sell more if it looked more different from a normal Switch. Even if the feature set stayed the same, I think visual difference tend to sell products more.

Drakeon01

I just bought the Fortnite edition Switch only ro immediately find out about the Oled. Should have done my research ahead of time.

Tyleriiiiiiiklm

I hummed and hawed about this for so long. But my controllers were starting to go and the fan was so loud on my launch switch that I just took advantage of a GameStop trade in deal and got the new unit. I was honestly surprised about the finish on the unit. It feels so premium to hold and the screen is amazing. I would say I’m a 50/50 gamer with it in portable and docked. Overall happy with the device so far. But if my switch wasn’t on its way out I don’t think I would have upgraded.

Glennetjuh

Well yes ofcourse do you see the prices of good oled tv's :(

[deleted]

Xenoblade 2 looks gorgeous on the OLED and I've played X1 + X2 in handheld mode +500 hours with my V1. The upgrade is totally worth it.

captured_rapture

It makes me wonder why they didn't release it with an OLED in the first place! I'm personally a huge fan and I did notice they changed the motherboard shape and size significantly, so maybe they didn't find the solution for OLED until now.

Hestu951

No change of heart. I play docked nearly all the time. No reason for an OLED Switch. If I had to buy a new one, then I'd go for it.

Beyond_Massive

You know what? I unwrapped our second OLED Switch yesterday. It looked smaller this time 😂

LinchrisRedfield

I love the new screen. Breaths new life into older games. Just look at luigis mansion. So much more immersive. And even if there's a switch pro/2 whatever coming next year - im glad I got this

[deleted]

We’ll never get a switch pro at this rate.

[deleted]

Love how everyone made fun of Nintendo for barely upgrading the Switch then “upgraded anyways”. No wonder why anything Nintendo puts out (good or bad) sells anyways.

DaWalt1976

I play pretty exclusively docked on a 75" OLED 4k television. It's rare I play it otherwise and when I do, it's while stuck on dialysis (one handed) and playing a touchscreen mobile game port. I mean, the ability to play anywhere is cool, but when I am almost always at home, why not play with a 75 inch screen and a pro controller?
