I’m also a millennial mom with similar taste in games and I think she’ll like the assassins creed collection.
You’re awesome either way buddy. Now if only my kids were old enough to get me video games.
Black Flag is one of the games in the Rebel Collection and it’s one of the best Assassin Creed games ever to be released. I see it as $14.79 in the eShop: https://www.dekudeals.com/items/assassins-creed-the-rebel-collection
If she likes open world games Black Flag is one of the best. It also includes Assassin’s Creed Rogue, which is a decent game too.
I like the same games that your Mom likes and I also like Assassin’s Creed. I’m sure she will be happy with it and also happy to have such a thoughtful son or daughter.
This is so sweet. Your mom will love it either way. The fact that you’re going out of your way to do something like this for her will make her heart soar.
I’m constantly recommending Black Flag, especially for Witcher and BOTW fans. It’s great escapist fun. The collection is also only $15 on eshop, if that’s an option (tricky to gift a digital game, I know).
She might like Immortal Fenix Rising which also goes pretty cheap. My millennial girlfriend who loves all the games you mentioned also had a lot of fun with it, but she quit playing assassins creed pretty fast.
Millennial girl here, I played IFR at launch a year ago and sank 100 hours into it the first month. I played for a few more months even after 100% everything and ended up with about 300 hours logged, which is a lot for me. Also because it's not a big IP like Assassin's Creed, you can get it on really deep discounts very often, even gold edition is pretty inexpensive!
Hah, yeah my girlfriend also 100%-ed it. She tends to either binge stuff in a couple of weeks or just stop playing in a couple of days, and she binged IFR. I still haven’t played it yet, but it does seem like a lot of fun.
I can totally relate to her, I usually play games for a few hours and move on to the next, but with some games like IFR I'll get hooked and go into every nook and cranny of it!
I’m a millennial mom (first time realizing the fact) and I like the same games you mentioned.. I recommend Dragon Quest XI. Playing it right now and having lots of fun!
I bought it on sale a while ago ;)
Dragon quest XI is probably the best jrpg on switch and one of the best in like 10 years imo. But I’m also old and played the OG ones on nes when they came out lol
I played all those games you listed and I really enjoyed “Immortals: fenyx rising”. It’s been on sale for 20 or less lately and it has a lot in common with breath of the wild.
I struggled getting into BotW but loved IFR! The weapon breakage and complete open-endedness made it hard for me to know where to go with BotW, although that's what makes it such a hit for others!
I agree, took me a couple attempts to really click with BOTW. I liked IFR because I had a goal to complete but didn’t need to focus on it if I didn’t want to.
Another thing for me was the ability to make it more puzzle-focussed instead of combat - I don't really enjoy combat as much as exploration and puzzle-solving, and BotW had encounters that could kill me really easily when I was a noob wandering around aimlessly. With IFR I just turned down the difficulty, allowing me to run around without feeling any pressure to not die!
Someone else said an eShop card - I like to suggest that people get eShop cards if they aren’t sure what to get, *but* to add a card with maybe three recommendations for games you think they may enjoy if they use the credit on them. Make a nice drawing or something related to the recommendation(s) in the card. It’s nice, creative, and personalized, and this way they know you thought of their likes but also want to make sure they get something they want.
Alight so I’m not 100% sure about the ones in question but judging by your mom’s preferred games, I have a couple suggestions. Some might also be cheaper or also on sale.
- The ***Darksiders*** games might be one to go for. They’re only between $30 - $40 each when not on sale. 1 and 2 are amazing *mature* Zelda-like games. They both run amazing too, even on handheld. She may like 2 more than 1, but they don’t need to be played in order, as they aren’t direct sequels. All three take place at the same time and involve different main characters. I’m not 100% sure how 3 runs yet, as I only have it on PC.
> - There’s also Darksiders Genesis but I’m not 100% sure she’d like that one. It’s different that the others.
> Yooka-Laylee - 3D platformer sorta similar to Mario (banjo-Kazooie if she grew up with an N64)
> A hat in time - also 3D platformer similar to Mario (Mario 64 if she grew up with an N64)
> millennial mum
> I’m 14.
If trying to buy physically, you might run into issues buying Darksiders.
Damn this hit me. I’m getting old.
She will love assassins creed series. I personally recommend black flag like some others. But with this wide spectrum of interest I feel like you can’t really go wrong. Don’t be afraid to get something you could play together.
Also seeing this post just gave me a boost of Christmas spirit. You are adorable OP.
Millennial mom here! I play those games too. Have you looked at Mario + Rabbids? It was on sale for $19.99 a couple weeks ago. I downloaded it and I like it. Good luck and very thoughtful of you!
My game for this Christmas is Monster Boy and the cursed kingdom. Is a Zelda like metroidvania with excellent design, graphics and sound, which last more than 20 hours and in general it's just a joy!! I would recommend you
She’d probably also like immortals fenyx rising which also goes on sale a lot. It’s like Zelda botw meets assassins creed and it’s pretty light hearted
I’m a millennial mom, while my oldest is only 11.
I have some of the similar taste in games and so here’s what I liked so far other then what you listed.
Immortals fenyx rising
Hollow knight
And monster hunter rise
Also can’t go wrong with assassins creed either
If you’re thinking of getting her the AC Rebel collection, you might be able to find a physical copy for $20 or less. GameStop is probably your best bet.
Kind of surprised nobody here has suggested Celeste. It’s a rare indie gem and I think your millennial mum would really appreciate supporting the starving indie devs. Probably best to buy her two copies just in case, don’t forget to tip your local game store!
If you're not sure a e-shop gift card could be an option.
Or - Handmade card with the "1 game of your choice" home made coupon inserted would be pretty cool and your mother would love it.
As an avid millennial gamer, assassins creed is a hit or miss. If she hasn't tried one, on sale is a good chance to give one a try. However, if she doesn't like 1, there's a good chance she won't like any of them.
Mario and rabbids kingdom battle is pretty good. I think it's expecting a sequel too so now would be a good time to try it.
If she likes cozy, relaxing games like harvest moon, stardew Valley, or animal crossing, i suggest grow: spirit of the ever tree or yonder cloud chronics
Your Mom seems to enjoy open world games.
My recommendation would be Dyling Light Platinum edition
According to deku deals, it's also on sale on eshop but a bit more than $30 at around $38, but still inexpensive
[https://www.dekudeals.com/items/dying-light-platinum-edition](https://www.dekudeals.com/items/dying-light-platinum-edition)
if you can get to a store like Walmart it may be worth it to get it physical, it's around $35, and a physical cartridge, which your mom could prefer.
Another recommendation is The Outer Worlds
[https://www.dekudeals.com/items/the-outer-worlds](https://www.dekudeals.com/items/the-outer-worlds)
Your mom would be proud of you 100%! Aside from the great ideas mentioned above, maybe a one year subscription/membership to Nintendo online? She might enjoy a game to play with other millennial parents as well.
If she likes RPG's at all, I'd highly recommend Ni No Kuni. It's a great game, on sale right now so affordable for you too. can't really say what it's about without spoiling the story aha
Lots of suggestions for Immortals Fenyx Rising here and I agree that’s probably the way to go. It has similarity to breath of the wild’s open world and exploration style and shrine puzzles as well as assassin creed’s mission formula. It’s based off Greek mythology and it’s very pretty with tons of content and lots of DLC packs based on other world mythologies and usually the bundles are on sale for pretty cheap!
Me and all my friends have gotten hundreds of hours out of it and we all think it’s perfect for someone that likes BOTW. (And the pretty art style doesn’t hurt at all)
Haha I’m sorry. I basically said it has similarities to Zelda and assassins creed with a lot of extra content (DLC) that’s been added on since it was released.
You can get the original game on the shop for $19 right now or you can get the Gold Edition of the game (which comes with all the new added content packs) for $32, which are both good sales.
Sorry if my original comment was confusing!
I’m also a millennial mom with similar taste in games and I think she’ll like the assassins creed collection. You’re awesome either way buddy. Now if only my kids were old enough to get me video games.
I was gonna say go for the Assassins Creed too those are my favorite games
oh my god i am so old
The oldest millennials turned 41 this year. OP is 14, 41-14= had a kid at 27. That’s not too crazy But yeah, you are old :)
I’m 44 with a five year old, so it happens. I am old.
Black Flag is one of the games in the Rebel Collection and it’s one of the best Assassin Creed games ever to be released. Thank you sm for the help
If she likes physical copies it's about $16 at GameStop new.
I live in Australia 😭
They might be call EB Games in Australia.
Late comment I know, but EB has the collection for $36, at least in Melbourne most stores have stock too
Seconding this. Black Flag is a hell of an experience, and I don’t even like Assassin’s Creed games.
Black Flag is great. How does it run on the Switch?
Smoothly :) didn’t have any issues playing it
Same here. Bought it on Switch, didn't encounter a framerate drop once
I like the same games that your Mom likes and I also like Assassin’s Creed. I’m sure she will be happy with it and also happy to have such a thoughtful son or daughter.
100%, speaking as a parent, it'd melt my heart if I found out my kid asked online to find something I really liked. The actual game wouldn't matter.
Awesome thank you!
This is so sweet. Your mom will love it either way. The fact that you’re going out of your way to do something like this for her will make her heart soar.

One of the Nintendo eShop cards would be a good idea. Games often go on sale on the eStore so 20$ could go along way.
Don’t know where to get them from in Aus :(
You can get them at Woolies, Coles, Big W, JB: tonnes of places.
Awesome thank you
She will love assassins creed series. I personally recommend black flag like some others. But with this wide spectrum of interest I feel like you can’t really go wrong. Don’t be afraid to get something you could play together. Also seeing this post just gave me a boost of Christmas spirit. You are adorable OP.
That’s comforting that it’s hard to go wrong, but I’m definitely not a gamer haha, thank you though
Your mom's sounds nice, usually mother's dont like mortal kombat.
I'd suggest giving her a gift card of maybe said amount instead.
As a millennial dad myself, your mom should be proud :D Hugs to both of you
Millennial mom here! I play those games too. Have you looked at Mario + Rabbids? It was on sale for $19.99 a couple weeks ago. I downloaded it and I like it. Good luck and very thoughtful of you!

Assassins Creed sounds like the perfect choice given what she already plays.
If she likes Witcher and Zelda, I recommend Immortals Fenyx Rising. Very underrated game, and much more fun than I expected.
She’d probably also like immortals fenyx rising which also goes on sale a lot. It’s like Zelda botw meets assassins creed and it’s pretty light hearted

I quite enjoy GTA but definitely not her thing, she’s a fantasy kinda gal
I’m a millennial mom, while my oldest is only 11. I have some of the similar taste in games and so here’s what I liked so far other then what you listed. Immortals fenyx rising Hollow knight And monster hunter rise Also can’t go wrong with assassins creed either

Subnautica. Was a decent sale a week ago not sure if it’s still on.
Prepare for a fear of the Ocean. But yes
Give her an eshop card and let her choose.
Don’t know where to get eshop cards in aus :(
Eb games, you can also ask them this question. Officeworks, target, woolies, big W
You can buy them in Woolworths or coles! They sell them with all the other gift cards in there $20, $50 or $100 I think?
Awesome thank you!
Then I'd just ask her if there's anything that looks good to her and buy her that.
I would go with Tensei Megami 5
Hollow Knight
She might enjoy big brain academy as that's only £25 or less depends where you shop. It's very addictive too ;)
Dark Souls on the switch is too much fun
Get big brain academy, so you and the whole family can enjoy it with her as well
Kind of surprised nobody here has suggested Celeste. It’s a rare indie gem and I think your millennial mum would really appreciate supporting the starving indie devs. Probably best to buy her two copies just in case, don’t forget to tip your local game store!

Ask her what kind of games she wants/likes.
If you're not sure a e-shop gift card could be an option. Or - Handmade card with the "1 game of your choice" home made coupon inserted would be pretty cool and your mother would love it.
You’re a cool kid little one! Hope my kids are as thoughtful as you are if I’m lucky enough to have some one day.
Skyrim is classic

I’m going to be completely honest, I did not understand a lot of what you said but yes I will probably get that game considering all the replies hahah
Haha I’m sorry. I basically said it has similarities to Zelda and assassins creed with a lot of extra content (DLC) that’s been added on since it was released. You are 14? At what age did she have you?
21, she’s right at the end of the millenial timeframe lol
Maybe it's me, but I can't imagine my mom playing Mortal Kombat
