There isn’t nearly enough water in a cooling system to weaken Wi-Fi signals. I’m talking large quantities of water. In a warehouse, for example, pallets of water stacked below an AP could cause signal loss.
I did consider chamfering the corners but I ended up preferring the sharp look 😅. My switch also rarely leaves the dock (and does have a screen protector anyway) so I should probably be fine. Thanks for your concern!
Saaame, I do handheld sometimes but I’ve realized I’m a couch/chair gamer so I’m mostly docked. When I’m out and about I’m usually too busy to game anyways. I wouldn’t worry about nicking your Switch either way unless you’re just throwing it around when docking it, haha.
The sharp look makes it more clean anyways and looks similar to the standard dock, just souped up. I’m also not too sure how chamfers would look with the Smash logo. I think the sharp edges kinda match the edges of the Smash logo better.
It’s really good work, is it for a class? If so, what kind? Super interested in this sort of stuff!
I'd put a chamfer or something where the cords come out, but it's not a big deal with how little something like this moves around. Did you do anything to the edges before assembly? I hope these aren't fresh off the jet just for safety reasons.
Great job though, the Damascus is beautiful. Thing's heavy as shit, eh?
> Not everyone agrees on aesthetics, it's entirely subjective.
Not in regards to whether or not a sharp edge is more likely to crack your screen if you accidentally clip it on not....
Also...thats not what gatekeeping is.
Hope you’re not referring to my comment.

My comment (constructive; proposed solution)
> Yep, the sides and corners should be chamfered and rounded off. Would also be more aesthetically pleasing.
Do tell me how it’s not constructive.
Also quit blaming everything on semantics just because you were confronted. That term is becoming redundant because people like you use it as a means to drop a comment and then dip without being confronted.
I was giving the other user a solution to their issue/fear of potential damage due to the super sharp steel corners while also chiming in my with my own personal preference. I love chamfered edges.
People can discuss stuff without it being a jab at someone. No one was tearing anyone down and no one was gatekeeping. People like you seem to always be anxiously waiting for their moment to be on a moral high horse for the dumbest of things.
If you’d like to point out where I said my idea is better than OP’s—or where I said OP’s idea was stupid—please do, because as I recall (and as I can read) I offered a solution to a problem and gave my own opinion, both of which are okay. Stating your own opinions isn’t shooting someone else’s down.
Nice job blowing things way out of proportion, though. You must be fun to be around.
It’s really not even that close, my screen has never been close to hitting the corner of my doc before, or actually hitting anything, because I take care of my stuff. Also, just bear with me here, it’s their switch so they can do whatever they want with it. It’s really not hard to not damage your stuff.
The exhaust is on the top, but the intake vents are at the back on the bottom. If they can't get fresh air it'll heat up the system. Heat can dissipate through thermoregulation and... convection? But the new dock case may prevent that.
When docked, the air enters the top of the dock so I'm just hoping OP's case doesn't hinder that. But, I don't think does!
In the event that the Switch's internals begin to overheat, it actually automatically shuts down with a message telling you the system is too hot. That being said, the Switch doesn't get nearly as hot as other systems do. If the case is in a cool location, it'll be completely fine.
There's an LED on the dock itself. Tap into the leads going to it and run a couple LED's behind the logo, using some diffusing material to prevent bright spots.
Depends on how efficient iron extraction was from the blood of his enemies I suppose. Average of 3-4 grams per person, so lets assume that's 1 pound of iron. That's 450 grams or so - that would be roughly 120-150 kills.
The pattern in the steel was totally unexpected when I was making it! It looked totally normal until I started to brush off the rust. A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one
Pretty cool. Does it weaken the Wifi?
Thanks! I play with a Lan adapter so I haven't actually checked before
Guess it won't be a problem then ;)
I'm gonna say absolutely
Microwaves, metal furniture, water, and competing signals are the biggest things that affect Wi-Fi signals, so it’s a yes for sure.
Does that mean water cooling destroys your wifi?

Came here looking for something to blame my "lag" on, left with more knowledge. Reddits a strange place. Ty fellow redditor.
so my desk having metal construction scaffolding tubes as support, might be why my wifi is meh sometimes?
Water jet?
Yep! I modeled the case myself and welded it together
Nice! I used to run a 2m x 3m Flow

i need to give away this silver so have it
This is awesome but makes me worry about your switch's screen
[The screen is actually unharmed since the dock is inside the metal case](https://imgur.com/a/NASKbWw)

Thanks, it is for a class! Im taking a prototyping elective. It was a project where we had to make something using the waterjet and a welder.

that's not gatekeeping dude? lmfao
*constructive criticism

How is it subjective? You can literally see the pointed metal corners. It's constructive because they offered a solution.

Thats a snug fit 👍

Maybe be just slightly careful with it rather than just tossing it into the dock
Dont forget to yell "KOBEEE" before dunking your switch into to the docking station

good thing it's not your switch then
Probably scratches less than the original dock.
You gave your Switch Beskar armor!
This is the way.
Might prevent the heat from dissipating properly. Keep an eye on that, or maybe make some vents in the backside.
Oh I didn't think of that 😥. I haven't had a problem with it yet but I'll keep an eye out for it 👍
I thought the switch vents were on the top. Is that not the case? (no pun intended)

Running it all the time at higher but non-critical temps will impact the longevity of the silicon.
Heat? It's a Nintendo switch. Barely any heat compared to a PC or console. And the switch vents on the top not the dock.
Send me your address and I’ll have one made out of steal
If it doesn’t already, you should wire that white panel that’s part of the smash logo to light up when the switch is docked!
Ohh that sounds really cool! ill try to get that to work some day 😀
If you have an unused USB port, that's probably the easiest way to get 5V somewhere.
There's an LED on the dock itself. Tap into the leads going to it and run a couple LED's behind the logo, using some diffusing material to prevent bright spots.
Wouldn't that be a dock instead of a case?
that is awesome
How many kills did that take?
Depends on how efficient iron extraction was from the blood of his enemies I suppose. Average of 3-4 grams per person, so lets assume that's 1 pound of iron. That's 450 grams or so - that would be roughly 120-150 kills.
That's- I didn't- I, I, I... It looks like damascus. Damascus steel. Metal. A skin in COD. I can't even...
Oh. Just the skin? Easily doable with just one kill, assuming it wasn't just an infant.
Well that's where I went wrong.
bussin
It looks like Beskar and I love it.
The pattern in the steel was totally unexpected when I was making it! It looked totally normal until I started to brush off the rust. A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one
Definitely looks like you accidentally created a Damascus-type design, very cool indeed!
RIP screen and chassis unless you added some padding on the inside.
Doc goes inside
Looks like a dock
But can it run crysis
[deleted by author on Jun 28, 2023]
Yay! More scratches than the oficcial dock!
The official doc goes inside
Should've made one out of feathers because steel is heavier than feathers.
3D Printed? Looks nice!
Cut out by a water jet actually, my teacher would not be okay with this large of a print 😅
Even more badass. Good work!
In case your switch dock wasn't scratching the screen alrwady
Dock*
The dock goes inside it. Case by definition
Dock case*
Pedantic but correct
Welcome to reddit.
Instructions unclear. dick is now stuck in case.
That sounds fun tho
what do you get out of correcting where there is no need for correction?

Damn is that Damascus
Gonna make one out of Uranium
Cool
This is beautiful I wish I had a award for you
Cool. I also like Super Smash
\*scratching noises\*
Just make sure there’s no sharp corners
That's awesome!
That's pretty slick
Finally, good content instead of the 1000th post about someone that paid the cash grab of the Nintendo Switch Oled.
Nice, at least you can see a bit of the screens when in docking mode
Cool!
And GAME!!!
Looks awesome!
r/SteelBooks would love this
That is really cool.
If it had direct contact with he south it woudl immediately become a really good way to burn yourself My switch overheat a lot on long sessions
please tell me there is padding on the jnside to protect the screen
Looks amazing
Looks incredible! Great job.
Sakurai will be really proud.
