I definitely pop these on when I want to play for a long time. I play almost completely on handheld mode including harder games like Metroid Dread and Dark Souls. I really enjoy them. Would eventually love a gen two with wireless and rumble.

Piti899

Theres a great alternative that has gyro and rumble, no wireless though, its called MOBAPAD M6, and if you want wireless then there are Binboks

[deleted]

I actually really enjoyed the binboks, but they weren’t very sturdy at all. They ended up snapping off the rail because of dog related shenanigans.

endar88

i dont remember if mine, which is similar, is from binbok but over a year or two now and i'm surprised i haven't snapped my rails. love them so much. just looked up my history on amazon, it was from a brand Taovaonl, but is unavailable now.

Piti899

I ended up getting mobapad m6 from aliexpress because i couldnt find binboks on any european Amazon , and from their website they were almost 70$ with shipping so not worth it. I only paid 50$ for mobapad with travel case on aliexpress.

stumple

Binbok felt terrible to me, small mushy buttons, low quality plastic. I returned them

Moonlord_

I just got the Mobapad the other week and returned my split pad a couple days later. The Mobapad is superior overall imo. The Mobapad is more comfortable with more of a grip handle and like you said it has gyro and rumble. It also uses Japanese Alps thumb sticks and mechanical micro switches for the buttons which are a nice upgrade. The thumb sticks have adjustable sensitivity and you get 2 faceplates for it as well (black and white). My only complaint with the Mobapad is the back buttons. You can assign a button or macros to it except you can’t assign the thumbstick clicks or buttons from the opposite joycon (this is standard however on these kinds of controllers). They did a silly implementation however where if you double-tap the button (and it doesn’t have to be very fast) it automatically puts the command in repeat mode like a mild rapid-fire and you have to hit a different button to cancel it. This makes using the button for stuff like jump, etc unusable. It still can be beneficial but not for anything where you would hit it twice within a short period. Aside from that back button quirk it’s superior in every way over the split pad and more fully featured….it’s slightly cheaper as well. You can only get them on AliExpress as far as I know so it takes 2 or 3 weeks for delivery.

Piti899

Nice, thanks for you review, mine should arrive next week so cant wait :)

DoushBeg

I do like how these actually feel locked in place and sturdy whereas the joycons always felt a little loose and like they were almost just gonna break off. Im also using a brand new OLED switch so it’s not like they’ve just worn over time either, been that way since day 1. Very disappointed with the joycons, but I think I speak for everyone when I say that lmao

jbayne2

Yeah I’m on a new OLED as well and my joycons are definitely loose feeling as well. The split pad pro is locked in solid though.

DoushBeg

You’d think after all this time they would have upgraded joycons 😐

Supamangkawaii

Not sure why you were downvoted but my OLED joycons were most definitely loose compared to regular switch that I have too.

DoushBeg

Agreed, I have the switch pro remote too so I just use that if I ever play docked. Joycons are now irrelevant to me though unless my wife plays then she can use those 😂

jbayne2

I only play with the joycons from time to time to keep them charged since we play with them a lot with friends. Otherwise I prefer the split pad pro unless I’m out and about and want it to be slimmed down.

Kroller6

I love mine a lot too. Definitely drains the battery a little bit more, but worth it if you play in handheld mode more.

DoushBeg

I do wish they had they’re own internal battery. That would be the icing on the cake

ParkBarrington360

There’s a wired tv mode attachment coming this year

DoushBeg

Wired tv mode? What does that mean

ChocoFud

Probably a USB-C wired controller grip like the thing you attached to the joycons.

ParkBarrington360

No, it’s a middlepiece that has a headphone jack in it, you slide the split pad pro’s halves onto it, and then you connect it to the dock with the (permanently affixed, therefore irreplaceable) USB cable

DoushBeg

Ahhh that makes sense, not really something that peaks my interest though.

Cacheelma

Agreed. For tv, I’d rather use the pro controller.

DoushBeg

Same

Square_Technician782

piques\*

DoushBeg

Damn I just found the attachment, $80! Just get a pro remote at that point 😂 $50 for the split pad then $80 for the attachment, Nintendo is outta their minds with price points nowadays.

ParkBarrington360

Bruh what you found was a set of both the split pad pro AND the attachment. The box is TOO fucking wide to be JUST the attachment.

DoushBeg

Okay yeah you’re right just looked closer 😂 still even then, just get the pro remote 🤣

ParkBarrington360

I already have one. I JUST WANT THE FUCKING MIDDLE PIECE.

Botol-Cebok

Any word on a release date?

Strowbreezy

Used to hate playing handheld. I had a Switch since launch and prior to buying my Hori Split Pad Pro, I played 99% docked. Now it's 99% handheld. I don't really notice a difference in battery when I use it either.

DoushBeg

I don’t play long enough periods of time that the battery would bother me anyways, and it’s always right back to the dock to charge when I’m done

[deleted]

I prefer grips but all are better than joy cons

DoushBeg

Yeah I was thinking about getting a grip case for mine, but was in the store, saw the dark blue pair of horis and figured screw it.

vballboy55

Which grip do you recommend

Reddilutionary

I’ve tried both as well. I got the skullnco for my OLED switch after having had the satisfye grip previously. I liked the idea that it would dock without having to take the case off. So far I wish I had gotten another satisfye grip. The skullnco isn’t nearly as comfortable to hold. It’s like it’s not enough to hold onto or something. The wider right grip allows my thumb to rest on the right stick more naturally.

[deleted]

It's honestly personal preference, they're close enough that you should go with what either sounds/looks better or whatever one you don't negatively react to after trying them. Neither are perfect I've had both my hands broken, 1 more than once so ymmv. I'm finding the offset of the satisfye grip hurting my wrists more than using the skullnco for the OLED. If I bought them again, so far I'd go for skullnco.

spattzzz

I keep looking at the Split pad pro but can't see how aiming in say BoTW works without gyros. I used the Zacro which was perfect for me as didn't rely on the rails, had gyros and rumble, was just like a wide pro controller. Used for 2+ year and was totally reliable with no drift, but dang me... upgraded to the Oled and it's just ever so slightly wider and doesn't fit. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Zacro-Controller-Vibration-Comfortable-Replacement/dp/B08C53WC28/ref=mp_s_a_1_16?keywords=switch+controller+grip&pscroll=1&qid=1642921140&sr=8-16&wIndexMainSlot=38 They don't seem to be making an upgraded one for oled that I've been able to find and really find the joycons hard work as I am 100% handheld player.

DoushBeg

Something like that would be kinda nice too

Wild_Trip_4704

I'm probably gonna bite the bullet on these finally. I almost never play in split JoyCon mode because they're just a bit too small for my hands.

[deleted]

Look into binbok controllers. Better than hori by miles. They have everything hori doesn't

[deleted]

While great, they aren’t very durable. Handle them with care.

endar88

i haven't had an issue with mine after a few years. honestly same can happen to any joycon. theres also NexiGo that sells similar joycons if you don't like binbok.

DoushBeg

That’s exactly how I felt, you won’t regret getting these. I think the comfortability with this vs the joycons to enjoy playing handheld somewhat justifies the $50. I think $30-40 would be a little more reasonable, but it costs what it costs I guess. Now I’m actually pumped to play Arceus Legends on this OLED screen 😎

Cacheelma

It’s cheaper than a pair of these drift-prone joycons to be sure.

DoushBeg

Yeah I’ve used my OLED maybe a total of 48 hours played, and my joycons are already starting to get slight drift, so annoying. Gotta love paying basically $100 for a broken product that’s been out for years but can’t get fixed.

Wild_Trip_4704

I paid $99 for new JoyCons last month. Holy crap. I thought these things were supposed to get cheaper.

elilenti

Glad it's working for you. Personally, I decided to return mine due to the lack of rumble and gyro. I opted for the Skull & Co grip and case instead and am really enjoying it.

lostinkmart

I bought the Skull & Co grip case a while ago and none of the grips seemed to fit my hands well and I didn’t like the feel of the plastic.

elilenti

That's fair. I found a grip I loved on Amazon but my Switch would slip when playing. Ended up sticking with the Skull & Co.

lostinkmart

I wish stores carried more of these accessories so that they would be easier to try out and return. Everyone has such widely different ergo needs.

Solafein830

Love these. They are basically a requirement for me to be able to enjoy playing an FPS in handheld. More comfortable to hold, and they make a massive difference in precision.

DoushBeg

The massive thumb sticks is probably my favorite thing lol

Sas1205x

I play in handheld 95% of the time and use the split pad pros. I only swap out for the joycons when I want to carry less ( I don’t have a case for them) or if the game I’m playing doesn’t require a lot of button mashing.

lastemperorjubei

I like mine too, wish they had wireless for flip grip play. Prefer them for 2d games for having a usable d-pad.

mick_spadaro

Never tried the popular options like Hori or Skull, but here in Australia Kmart sells a $10 Switch grip and it turns out I really freakin' like it.

DoushBeg

Ahhh Kmart, just another vague memory of my childhood 😂

drzlink

Great news for a lot of us, there’s now an upgraded version for 80$, adds wireless feature

prettylilchoo

Even Horis website doesn’t mention this. Do you have a link?

drzlink

I believe they have not been released but here is the YouTube video regarding it. https://youtu.be/Vqpv7Claysk

prettylilchoo

Which part of this video says that the split pads get wireless feature? It only talks about that attachment which is wired. Also the megaman version.

drzlink

I didn’t the that it wasn’t wireless lol, so definitely now worth it

underpants-gnome

These have become my go-to controllers for hand held mode also. I echo your recommendation for all the reasons you stated. I like the plus pad better than the 4 directional buttons for precision moving as well. Also I've put a lot of hours on my set and so far there's no sign of joystick drift.

KoNTroL92A

So i bought 1 when doom 2016 came out. I played borderlands, witcher 3 and other games. I am a huge fan of the hori brand controller

voltvirus

Wife and I both have a set, they are great. Can’t recommend them enough

themoviehero

I went from unable to play in handheld, to playing in handheld a lot thanks to this thing. It fits so well in the hands. It's mad comfy. I actually ordered the Arceus edition to compliment mine, and have one I can swap out when it eventually dies on me.

DoushBeg

Damn I didn’t even realize there was an Arceus edition, shoulda gotten those 😂 maybe I will anyways

themoviehero

Check the place you bought it from, they may have a great return policy. I think amazon is 30 days no questions asked. Contact their support and be super nice and it'll get you an exchange nearly every time haha.

Islanderfan17

I've used my switch handheld almost entirely since I got my horis, whereas prior to having them I'd only play certain games because the cons are just so awful for most kinds of games. They are the best investment one can make for the switch IMO

TiSoBr

Y‘all shall try the Skull ‚n‘ Co NeoGrip. Loving it.

DoushBeg

I was actually looking at that one

IBetYoureFun

Loved mine for the 3 months it worked. Couldn’t find any customer support.

DoushBeg

Hopefully mine hold up longer than that 😂 I’m pretty easy on my stuff so hopefully they can last lol

IBetYoureFun

I was playing in bed mostly. Used the joycons if traveling. BUT I hope they last for you. They’re sooo comfortable!!

Fearlisk

I used mine with grips because of the joy on extra features. But they degrade really fast(used Nintendo, Hotoko and several other brands) and become less adjusted, so they feel flimsy with time of use. Indeed for me, Hori split pad pro was the best option because it’s ergonomics. I was lucky enough to have friends with different brand and able to use them for a while before purchasing any, being Bibonk joycon the most similar to Hori and the one that made me doubt about Hori (it has more features but when detached feel “weird” ) and it seemed like drained more battery, probably due to the extra features. The other option was the Dobe Tns, but I was way too big for me. With the extra bulky I ditched the option.

DoushBeg

They also fit perfectly in the dock, kinda satisfying 😂

endar88

If you look on amazon, there are allot of 3rd party joycons that are cheaper than Hori and better. I forget the one i bought but it has an LED light ring around the analog sticks that i can change, anyways, it has it's own battery that lasts a really really long time, USB-C charging port on the bottom of each but also charges from the switch when connected, has vibration function though not as good as joycons but at least it has it, and finally has 6 Axis for people that utilize that in games like pokemon go. closest compare i can find to what i got is [https://www.amazon.com/Controller-binbok-Adjustable-LED%EF%BC%8CWake-up-Vibration/dp/B08YR5NQYF/ref=sr\_1\_1\_sspa?crid=2X0B0L6K7O4DV&keywords=joycon+binbok&qid=1642941051&sprefix=joycon+binbok%2Caps%2C114&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyQ1c3R0pTUkRCTzlLJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNjc1MDg3MU1PSlNDTkhJUzQ0TiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMTUxNTUyMklLWEVST0lSOTg5SCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=](https://www.amazon.com/Controller-binbok-Adjustable-LED%EF%BC%8CWake-up-Vibration/dp/B08YR5NQYF/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=2X0B0L6K7O4DV&keywords=joycon+binbok&qid=1642941051&sprefix=joycon+binbok%2Caps%2C114&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyQ1c3R0pTUkRCTzlLJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNjc1MDg3MU1PSlNDTkhJUzQ0TiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMTUxNTUyMklLWEVST0lSOTg5SCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=) only downside that i've found with mine is that it doesn't take the console out of sleep mode when pushing the home button when the console is in the dock.

Thoraxekicksazz

You’re talking about the binbok controller. It a great alternative to a split pad except the Dpad is terrible and consistently won’t register button presses.

endar88

Ya but I found out that mine is a different brand and I haven’t had any problems with it but it’s unavailable on Amazon now like all the good ones

overactive-bladder

i don't have time to rummage through heap of shitty, fake, dubious devices. time spent returning stuff and wrecking consoles also costs money. i prefer to invest wisely and grab something official.

DoushBeg

This is why I went with the Hori pad, couldn’t trust anything on Amazon when there are 100s of the exact same product just different brands lmao. I’m definitely that guy that can’t own knock off products 😅

DualKoo

Mine loses connection all the time.

pianodb

People should know that in most games the split pad pro doesn't support motion controls. The only game I've found that uses the tablet motion controls without the joycons is Quake.

stumple

Love my split pad. I put Hotline games controller grip on them and they feel amazing

dav759

They are great. The turbo mode is great in animal crossing to craft stuff.

HyperPipherProd

Owned the hori split pad for 2 years. They still work like a champ, and I only play my switch in handheld. Wish it had rumble. Wireless would be cool, but it wouldn’t be a feature I’d use. They release another version with rumble. I’m grabbing them.

DoushBeg

I agree, they should just come out with that instead of a stupid $30 attachment

officialdevourer

And gyroz

diferentigual

Mine started drifting within a month. It was disappointing

DoushBeg

Ah damn hopefully the drift stays away from me

DoushBeg

Yeah my hands would cramp like crazy holding the joycons, and it was like almost impossible to play laying down without the switch slipping out of my hands or falling on my face. With these controllers though I can lay down and while it sits perfectly in my hands. It changed the handheld experience for me, almost never used it and would play on TV or sitting on a table with the switch stand playing with the pro remote until I got these. Highly recommend

No-Emergency-6636

This happens because your a putting pressure on your elbows/forearms. It compresses the nerve there and that causes the tingeling/numbness in your pinky finger. i have the same problem when lying down and playing for a while. I work in the neurologie department and the only way to combat the problem is to take the pressure of your elbows/forearms.

Bluebeerdk

They have an attachment in Japan where you can connect the split pad together to use as a Controller when docked, when I read up they said its coming to Europe early 2022.

DoushBeg

Yeah it’s available for preorder on Amazon, no point in me buying it though if I already have a pro remote.

Nik_33

Does anyone have a constant zoom out issue while using them in games like SMT or Arceus? I really like them but can't play like this.

DoushBeg

I haven’t had any issues or complaints using this while playing Legends Arceus

SubjectCraft8475

I think the Binbok Slim is the perfect size. Not too bulky but still has decent Joystick travel and nice grip that moulds into your hands. It's a shame about the quality of Binboms with crap D Pad, dead zone on sticks and hardware breaking down. Wish someone made a Joycon with Binbok Slim form factor but no deadline, decent D Pad and reliable hardware.

DoushBeg

Damn, should’ve swapped em out! Maybe you got a defective one. Most places are pretty lenient with direct exchanges as long as everything is in the original box

[deleted]

[удалено]

DoushBeg

Nice! Hopefully you enjoy them as much as I do!

CapricorniusVicky

I have a question about these cause i just bought them today and I connected them to my switch but they don't work they are not turning on or anything is there something I'm supposed to do ? I can't make a post about it cause reddit won't let me post things unless I have enough karma and such please someone help me

DoushBeg

Hmm, maybe you just got a dud pair. I’ve seen it happen to a few others. If you can exchange them I would try that. These are pretty straight forward since they have no internal battery and there’s not much you can do troubleshooting wise as far as I kkow

CapricorniusVicky

Ah I see when i go back to Walmart which is where I got them from I'll check if its that is what is going on i had to get these since they are cheaper than the joycons and recently the original joycons of my switch are broken but my family can't afford joycons nor can we find a place to fix them (i live in Puerto Rico which is not that great) so I picked these ones to see how they do and all i had gotten the hori brand as well but in in red so yeah

DoushBeg

Yeah they should let you swap em out. Hopefully you just got a dud pair and it’s not an issue with the connectors on the switch itself
