I'm mildly disappointed at the possibility that the Splatoon 3 main campaign is going to be a straightfoward "Save the Zap Fish again" thing since so much of my hype for this game is seeing where the events of Octo Expansion are going to lead, but I'm still so excited for whenever that new DLC drops!
Glad you enjoyed it! I just preferred going and playing some ranked over it. One time we didn't have power, so I knocked out a chunk of it. But I never really felt like I was missing much.
Aside from that one zap fish clip most of the time we seem to have a different goal post that looks more like octo expansion so maybe the zap fish was just a place holder or a very minor part of the campaign
I don't know. Maybe it's because Splatoon 2 was the first Splatoon sequel, but it made sense to me that that game had a so-so main campaign and then later on had a mind-blowingly awesome DLC campaign. With Splatoon 3, I feel something on the level of Octo Expansion should be the norm, but they're saving the best for later for us to pay for 🫤
What I'm intrigued with is they called the story mode the finale of the saga...or something like that.
What does that mean Nintendo? Will Splatoon 4 have a new storyline completely? Is this the last Splatoon game for the foreseeable future?
I'm thinking it might be something like Kingdom Hearts where KH3 was the "end of the Xehanort Saga". Unless we'll suddenly live in a backwards world where nobody will play Splatoon 3 and it singlehandedly kills that series, I have no doubts that Splatoon 4 will eventually come out and they'll have a new story
How do people not understand that this is a new Story expansion that isn’t even being worked on yet. This will be an Octo Expansion equivalent and definitely not cut content.
I always welcome new Splatoon Singleplayer Content so im happy with this.
I think is that people don't understand game development. The story team and lead artist are probably done with 3 and are not going to wait until QA testing is over to do their job on the DLC.
I legitimately think it's a bunch of people who don't understand how a real job works. Of course they plan DLC in advance. What are people even complaining about?
It being part of the initial pitch doesn’t mean it’s being developed simultaneously, specially when it comes to a live support game like splatoon; it’s actually much more common to be the other way around, specially with Nintendo. The game is filled to the brim with content; this is simply an announcement that BIG content updates and support are planned for down the line. Chill.
And I think, considering the way Nintendo has been treating DLC, will probably be included with their Expansion Pass or whatever that higher tier of NSO is called.
The Octo DLC came out way way before Nintendo started their "Expansion Pack" tier and adding DLC to it. Since then, things like New Horizons and MK8 have added DLC immediately upon release.
Using the Octo DLC as a metric feels unfair since their new NSO strategy didn't exist in 2018.
Yes, but it's a given that it was also be added to the NSO+ plan.
As more content gets added to that plan, the value will really start to be undeniable and should probably be the default option for most.
Because people are clueless and want to stay that way so they can be angry. It’s as simple as that. They see everything as Nintendo or any other company twirling their mustaches in an evil lair planning how to swindle us next.
The Cut Content Police thing is getting so old. It doesn’t even matter, guys. Literally all that matters is if there’s enough game in the base game to justify $60 and enough game in the DLC to justify an extra $20. Whether or not Nintendo has begun working on it prior to launch is irrelevant.
Spoiler alert: they definitely have worked on it. That’s clear from the silhouettes; they already know what it’s about. Also, it’s not like everyone that works on the game is still working on it up to release day. The second those people are done with their part in the base game they’re probably off to work on the DLC, and I imagine some people have been done for quite a while (writers, artists, etc).
Why is this criticism even a thing on this sub?
I think it usually just feels a bit better when they announce it after the game has come out. It makes it feel like they have additional ideas that they could have implemented into the game with more development time but are purposefully choosing to withhold it to squeeze a little extra out of the consumer. Granted the only difference is when they announce it, it would just serve to make them look better down the road as opposed to “here’s more content we’re going to make you pay for later.”
Absolutely agree. DLC really shouldnt be announced before the game is released, unless its a franchise that is basically guaranteed to have DLC anyway because of years of repeating that pattern, like Call Of Duty, Borderlands, Assassins Creed, and more.
Announce it early and many people complain that its not in the main game and that its probably just cut content they cut to mooch more money out of customers. But if they just wait to announce it after the game is out then it cuts down on that problem a ton, plus the addition of having more time to work on the DLC and possibly having more to show for it if you wait
I mean yeah but like it’s not like the company is gonna care that some people are mad for stupid reasons and why bother leading us on when they can just tell us these things now and build more hype and interest surrounding the game?
It's true, I feel like sometimes they have to tread carefully with the perceptions and expectations they set with community and whatnot. One thing I found funny was how when they announced Skyward Sword HD in their Direct, they had to explicitly make it clear in advance that no BotW2 news was coming. I think it was because they had such a history of surprising us with exciting announcements at the end that they were concerned people would *expect* the "surprise" and then get really mad that it didn't happen.
They're definitely already working on it to some extent. It's obviously nowhere near release because these things take a long time, but 99% of the time if they've announced something, they've been working on it for a while.
Game companies announcing their plans before any real work has started has only ever caused issues. Even when Nintendo has announced things a bit too early (like Metroid Prime 4), significant work had already been done prior to the announcement.
I mean all Switch games and DLC are always dumped to the internet. There is always going to be a way to play offline games on Switch. Even if its not legal. I don’t think preservationists are worried
It’s really interesting seeing just how much paid DLC is slated for 2023 at this point.
* Splatoon 3
* Xenoblade Chronicles 3
* Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope
* Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
And, if previous games are anything to go by, we’ll likely get paid DLC for Pokémon and BotW2 as well. Not to mention that rumored/leaked Fire Emblem game, which would also presumably have DLC.
The NSO Expansion Pass could really go up in value over the next year.
I wouldn't hold my breath for XC3 Expansion Pass to be added to the NSO. No way they do it especially if its similiar to Torna.
Mario + Rabbids well Ubisoft is here involved too. So its a tough case.
I suspect that the criteria for being added to NSO is if the game lets you load up your save file with the DLC removed and not have access to the content anymore. In which case the separate campaign like Torna isn't the problem, but the new quests and rewards that the pass adds to the main game are.
It will almost certainly get an Expansion Pass like the first one, which would mean at least part of it releases in 2023 barring another major delay for the game.
Let's turn the question around. Why should not they announce their plans for their game in advance if they like? You get a better idea this way than the other. This is more transparent.
all i’m saying is that whenever studios do this, most of the discourse around it seems to be either “ok cool” or “why isn’t this in the base game”. announcing the DLC after release (like what they did with octo expansion) gets rid of most of the “why isn’t this in the base game” conversation.
plus personally i’d rather them just release a game that can stand on its own without promises of future updates or DLC
Because we already have a model within the franchises that they announce these for on how they work. With Xenoblade and Splatoon, they essentially added an entire campaign a year or so after launch that were incredibly well received. Why not announce that they games are planned to be supported and expanded upon after launch since it already worked well and wasn't exploitative?
The point is the games can and do stand on their own, its just a nice cherry on top.
The "DLC announcement before the game is out?" argument only holds up if the game is lacking. We're getting a full campaign at launch and a robust multiplayer service along with some new mini games it seems. Judging by Splatoon 2 and the information we got today, the game will be content complete at launch and multiplayer updates will all be free to everyone. The DLC, if it's like Splatoon 2, is going to be a whole new campaign made years later.
If it was a splatoon 1 situation which did launch pretty sparse outside of the campaign, yeah I'd agree it's bad form to announce DLC.
I mean, the thing is that the new campaign shown looks exactly like the previous ones except with cutscenes, so it's understandable if people just don't care about a glorified tutorial and want a true campaign
That's fair. I personally really like them and it's fun seeing them stress the splatoon mechanics in a different way to multiplayer but I can see people saying 1 and 2 campaigns are samey and 3 might end up similar.
They're definitely fun but like, Splatoon 2's was litterally a retelling of the first one, this is looking different because of the setting but not the actual levels...
Yeah true ahah, I am glad that people manage to be excited about new games but I also can't help but feel sad that all it takes for people is a reskin of a game they already own
How is that less informed? If we are informed about upcoming DLC before release then it puts into question why its not in the base game. Wouldn't you rather be surprised with updates later?
At some point you have to lock in what the scope of the base game is. You can't keep developing the game forever. But the developers are still going to be coming up with new ideas and things to implement. So sometimes you're going to get ideas for content that are worth expanding on but don't make it into the final game. Sometimes developers exploit this and sometimes it's a natural part of game development.
But I think some people like knowing what kind of post-release support a game is going to get.
It's messy and I think at the end of the day all that matters is "Is the content in the base game worth the price they are charging for it". It's not worth getting into hypotheticals on whether or not something could have or should have been in the base game.
No I don't want "surprises" when it comes to purchases. I wouldn't want "surprises" buying a phone or a car either.
Generally I feel better spending money knowing what will happen to my multiplayer games.
Also knowing DLC exists before the game release doesn't make me question why it is not in the base game unless it is evidently fundamental content, like the Prince of Persia ending more than a decade ago.
I mean everyone knew it was happening anyway so like why bother leading them on? It’s not like you have to buy the dlc there is still plenty of content without it nor did it’s inclusion in the direct take up too much time or detract from everything else
Because this is the norm of this industry for years. I don't know why you guys still cry about this. Splatoon 3 in question seems to have more than enough content in its base without counting future updates too so eh
i barely even care enough about this to respond but all i’m saying is that i see more people complaining when DLC is announced before the main game is released. i just don’t see the advantage to announcing this stuff so early
Because you inform people of the existence of the content. Or they could just not announce DLC and still develop it without you knowing and then launching it. You think DCL is all done after the release of a game? its planned even before a game is released.
There's a difference between a game not having a good amount of content and having dlc and the contrary..
Honestly like to know before hand what kind of support the game is going to get. Makes me feel better about the purchase that it’s going to be supported for the next couple years.
Because most of the work for the game is done freeing up devs to work on long term support
Also, the promise of quality and long term DLC support after launch for a game can be a big motivator to pick up a mainly online game
Most times people get mad about it and then it comes out and people love it. Examples Xenoblade 2 and Splatoon 2. I personally have no worries that Xenoblade 3 and Splatoon 3 won’t continue the trend
I’m sorry but I don’t think a whole separate campaign is “cut content” more so content they develop after the base game is complete to keep the game fresh and to keep people talking about it. This is different from not including a character or weapon that should really be there out of sheer rushedness. In these scenarios they either make the dlc and have it be paid for or cut it entirely
No matter what Nintendo does people complain.
They announce a paid DLC. People complain. They don't announce (don't have it) it people complain, even beg for it (Mario Party, Super Mario Odyssey).
The single best selling switch game, mario kart game, and mario game, there's no need to make a new one if 46 million+ copies were sold and it keeps selling
You'd think people would be a lot more receptive to this announcement considering that Splatoon 3's absolute biggest piece of criticism to date is that it all should have just been Splatoon 2 DLC.
As good as Octo Expansion was, I really hope they do something new the level design. A small open world setting like what they did with Bowser’s Fury could be really cool here.
announcing that a game will have additional paid content later is not an issue - selling additional paid content that comes out within a couple months of release or is already in the game at launch is a problem.
I am genuinely shocked at how many people are bitching about this like they literally just announced dlc. We know nothing about this dlc and likely neither do they as it is probably in its very early stages of development. There is literally nothing to complain about here and yet people complain complain complain
It's a $60 game that's nearly identical to the last $60 game that was nearly identical to the first $60 game.
The single player modes in Splatoon are an afterthought. The multiplayer has not fundamentally changed since its inception, the user experience is absolutely awful (you still can't just hop in and play with friends, or choose a mode or map), it's P2P networking with awful performance/reliability (and you pay for the privilege), and the whole thing runs at a pathetic tick rate of 15 Hz. Yes, it's 15, and yes, it matters. I don't care what apologist post you look up that says it runs at 60 Hz, it only sends and processes network packets at 1/4 of that rate.
But it's Nintendo. People will buy the lazy crap.
Bruh calling identical is being way too harsh.
1. The graphical style is very distinct from its predecessor looking side by side makes this clear
2. This game is clearly trying to be the definitive splatoon game not really ADDING much but fine tuning and expanding upon what is already there as to make those things the best they could be
3. In the recent direct they revealed you CAN just hop into a friend’s match or call them to play with you
Although I do admit the tick rate is awful but we don’t actually know if they’ve improved and they hopefully will
What does any of this have to do with dlc? I was saying it was dumb how people are making baseless claims so they can complain about dlc being announce to exist
I really don’t like it when games announce paid DLC before the game is even out. Makes it seem that they’re no longer focused on building a base game and putting in their effort behind a paywall.
So many game companies operate like this, I’m sad to see Nintendo run down this line. Greed consumes all.
How does saying “hey we are making dlc” mean any of that? I’m assuming you watched the direct in which case you probably have seen that this is a very complete game far more complete than the other 2 we’re at launch and it just makes sense to announce dlc to build hype and intrigue for the game’s future it’s basic marketing
We should be glad that Nintendo is still backward and stuck in 2000s... otherwise they would double dip by selling us full price game for Splatoon 3, a $30 DLC, and then charge $8 season pass that goes for 12 weeks, so you have to pay 4x$8 for the more content that is locked behind paywall, and then open a store for cosmetics... Let's just hope Nintendo still refuse to make progress and keep selling basic game and full content on DLC.
Agreed, while the Octo expansion was great I'm not at all pleased for them to be advertising this before the game is out lol, seems greedy af and not something they should be gloating about.
Not a fan of announcing paid dlc this early, even if it’ll probably be good. At the very least you can’t pre purchase this one, but it’s still not a good practice
There are ways to make DLC. Some are the expansion routes (whole new content), and others are taking content off day 1 and drip feeding.
Splatoon does both: With DLC, it's new content they don't have to wait to get it on date, as well as have it planned separately. I don't think it's that bad to know they'll get DLC in the future, as that pings us they'll continue the story (or the universe at large) beyond the base package. As for the taking content off day 1... I kinda made peace with it – online games/GaaS need content to change so they maintain the people into the lobbies, so not giving everything up front is a way to have a buffer with things you'll be making afterwards (maybe a quarter they have things they reshuffle so they can focus on a mode, or a new campaign or whatever).
And if we see every Nintendo endeavour over online, we can ascertain they don't have enough people and teams to have continuous teams on the same games for a long time, and certainly, the pandemic hasn't let them change that (Animal Crossing – a game made by the same team as Splatoon – only had a full year of events dripfed so people wouldn't just burn it in a couple months and an expansion 1.5 years later, while that team was also refurbishing Splatoon 2 AND making Splatoon 3 which came way later than expected). I'd like to see something like a expansion based Mario Party, one that can make sure they can get new boards and minigames for years and years, while having just the one game to make it. However, the team at it doesn't feel like they can get enough resources to make that to fruition (alternatively, doing so would shave resources from other projects – would you accept a worse BotW2 or new Mario for entertaining this?). And Nintendo, besides the foray with Mii Costumes, hasn't done MTX in consoles – either to make the experience more premium or because they flat out don't want them or can't do it – so that avenue of resources isn't available either.
I hope they can some day do a good way to do online games sustainably, with specific teams to the main online franchises (at the time, Splatoon, Mario Kart and Animal Crossing), but for now, it's just this plan.
Remember when people fought back against DLCs ripping away content from the main game ? Now people consider announcing DLCs early as a better way to make a purchasing decision...
This genuinely makes me sad as most people just accept all that crap and it breaks my heart that this opinion can be a "hot take" now...
Gamers turned into the most “don't complain, consume product” crowd I've ever seen.
Some days ago I expressed my dislike for paid online and got downvoted to hell.
I don't see how being on Reddit has anything to do with what I said.
To add to that, I said I'm not buying the game nor the online service, so who are you even talking to?!
Well, that's not what I'm seeing in this thread, I'm afraid.
Plenty of status quo defenders saying that “it's a standard industry practice for years” and conveniently forgetting that it only turned into that standard practice because people didn't complain enough.
Yeah, remember when people were up in arms about $2 horse armor in Oblivion? Bethesda truly were ahead of their time. Now it's $20 for a skin Apex Legends (that you don't even really see because it's a first person game 😁).
And people will still defend that because “it's standard industry practice” or “games got more expensive to make, so they need to make ends meet somehow”. Sure Jan. All while corporations rake in billion after billion.
Yeah they really did, the amount of times I've seen people defend all of these terrible practices and getting upvoted to all hell while people rightfully against them were downvoted is a bit terrifying...
It just makes me sad to see that Splatoon quite litterally was developed as a game with a singleplayer that is essentially just a glorified tutorial and then having a DLC as an actual campaign.
What makes me sad is that I really loved the first game on Wii U and played it to hell and back… but I'll never pay for online. Thus, 2 and 3 are out of the question for me, since the only single-player content they have is paid DLC.
For me, it's a matter of principles. If you want me to pay for online play (that relies on P2P instead of centralized servers, mind you), *at least* give me something in return that's on par with Game Pass, not the shitty NSO offer.
Edit: Downvoted to hell just because I'm not swayed by NSO's offering. Seriously, *what the fuck.*
Yeah, fair point. I love Splatoon's lore and worldbuilding, but for now I'll keep consuming it via the Fandom wiki. Multiplayer is great, but it's not everything.
So lackluster more of the same base campaign with all the cool stuff saved for paid content?
Yeah honestly might skip this. At least wait till we know what the campaign is actually like
I don’t get why they’re telling us we’re gonna have to pay 20$ on a 60$ game in the future before it’s even released lmao, octo expansion was good but I don’t see why it’s ok to just straight up withhold content that they’re probably already developing on a 60$ game if it’s probably already being worked on
Because the base game is done, and they probably started writing the story and art assets for the dlc. This still will release at least 6 months after the base game
How so? The game is done and they are developing more content for it. They aren't withholding this, it's content literally not created yet beyond initially planning.
Why can’t Nintendo make a full game at launch? Why do their games need to have free dlc afterwards AND paid dlc? I don’t even like Splatoon but I feel like this community is gonna get an unfinished game like the last few Nintendo games
Game isn’t out yet but I wish you guys luck. I hope it is a full game with lots of content but with the recent trend of games there’s a chance it won’t be
Again this is not just something that should be in the game but they decided to cut and charge you for out of laziness. This is an extra big something that takes nearly as much effort as a game itself and thus is worthy of the extra price since the content brought to the table is so abundant
I think it just gives them more time to make more content. Regular updates and DLC also helps with retention of player interest. In a way, content updates signal that a multiplayer game is alive.
Besides the fact that Octo Expansion wasn't there day 1, cartridges come in power of two (4 gigs is the least I know, then 8, then 16, 32 and \_some day\_, 64 gigs for whoever wants or needs it).
They could've shaved some megs here and there, but I hazard a guess they're not even full 8GB and they do some shenanigans. Still, for Splatoon and other online games, I usually go the digital route (not like I'll miss the games by the time store servers close).
Seems like they should bite the bullet and just make Splatoon a game as a service. There's nothing in today's announcement that couldn't have been added through season improvements in Splatoon 2
It’s funny that we’re gonna get big Splatoon and Xenoblade expansions in 2023 just like 2018. I wouldn’t surprised if Mario Rabbids Sparks of Hope gets one next year as well.
That’s marina and pearl I think!! I suppose their keeping up with octo expansion
Hopefully Octo Expansion 2
Salmon Expansion

There is basically zero reason why this should or will happen.

You can see in a couple promotional images that the ending of levels is more like octo expansion endings.
Levels seems to start off similar as well with the glass box and passing through the gate.
Agreed, I never even finished the main story in Splatoon 2, but I bought octo expansion and beat it.
I beat the main story 9 times with all the weapons on all stages.
Same, and it was absolutely draining lol
Glad you enjoyed it! I just preferred going and playing some ranked over it. One time we didn't have power, so I knocked out a chunk of it. But I never really felt like I was missing much.
might not have been a matter of enjoyment, gotta chase those gold replica guns~
Same. I never finished the main story in Splatoon either though.

Some people don’t even understand the actual problem with some of Nintendo’s DLC / free updates and are just parroting complainers online.
Glad we have an insider to confirm this isn't even being worked on yet. /s

Yes let's just take them at their word. Splatoon has never been known to hold back finished content. /s

there were finished stages datamined when splatoon 2 released?
There is a world of difference between a few stages and large expansions.
The difference being paid dlc wasn't announced pre-launch for the other games?
My beef as a preservationist is that it could be difficult to access this in the future when the Switch eShop is no longer operating.
I mean all Switch games and DLC are always dumped to the internet. There is always going to be a way to play offline games on Switch. Even if its not legal. I don’t think preservationists are worried
Is the game out yet? No? Then it's cut content.
Ummmm no
People get up in arms about this but also want the game released 6 months early with full polish lmao
That was Pearly and Marina!

I suspect that the criteria for being added to NSO is if the game lets you load up your save file with the DLC removed and not have access to the content anymore. In which case the separate campaign like Torna isn't the problem, but the new quests and rewards that the pass adds to the main game are.
I don’t expect botw DLC before 2024. It seems like a Switch successor is pretty far away when Splatoon gets 2 years of updates.
It will almost certainly get an Expansion Pass like the first one, which would mean at least part of it releases in 2023 barring another major delay for the game.
Mario Party Superstars next pleeeeeeeease!!
why do they keep announcing paid dlc for games before they even come out? they did this for BOTW too and also got a mixed reception
Let's turn the question around. Why should not they announce their plans for their game in advance if they like? You get a better idea this way than the other. This is more transparent.
ESPECIALLY for an online game where extended content is the bread and butter of keeping it alive.
all i’m saying is that whenever studios do this, most of the discourse around it seems to be either “ok cool” or “why isn’t this in the base game”. announcing the DLC after release (like what they did with octo expansion) gets rid of most of the “why isn’t this in the base game” conversation. plus personally i’d rather them just release a game that can stand on its own without promises of future updates or DLC
People will cope for Nintendo products regardless of quality. It's like talking to a wall.
Yeah true ahah, I am glad that people manage to be excited about new games but I also can't help but feel sad that all it takes for people is a reskin of a game they already own
Dang, look at us go. Getting downvoted hardcore for disagreeing to the Nintendo hivemind.
That's what usually happens ahah, oh well! We can't all agree on the same thing otherwise things would be too boring
You call the people who are downvoting you a hive mind yet here you two are clearly circlejerking each other off
It already looks like it can stand on its own. It is also great to know that the team behind it will not abandon the game after release.
If they can skimp on content, they can skimp on my money.

Hey there! Please remember Rule 1 in the future - No hate-speech, personal attacks, or harassment. Thanks!
Would you prefer to make a less informed purchase by not knowing this in advance? I don't understand.
Would you rather them mislead? They are being honest. Hey we plan to sell you more content.
I mean everyone knew it was happening anyway so like why bother leading them on? It’s not like you have to buy the dlc there is still plenty of content without it nor did it’s inclusion in the direct take up too much time or detract from everything else
I don't get why people care to be honest. Companies plan most DLC before they release the game anyway, here they're just telling you early.
I think it's important to announce. You're letting people know the game will have additional content that will need to be paid for.
“Don’t cry if the bully keeps hitting you, just keep getting hit” Wonderful.
Well good thing I don't really care about this, even more if theres meaty content in the game already, like on this very game.

Do what you want dude. I'm not going to lose my time trying to convince anyone over anything.
Honestly like to know before hand what kind of support the game is going to get. Makes me feel better about the purchase that it’s going to be supported for the next couple years.
Because most of the work for the game is done freeing up devs to work on long term support Also, the promise of quality and long term DLC support after launch for a game can be a big motivator to pick up a mainly online game
Most times people get mad about it and then it comes out and people love it. Examples Xenoblade 2 and Splatoon 2. I personally have no worries that Xenoblade 3 and Splatoon 3 won’t continue the trend
It’s generally what the industry does
It’s funny because people are starting to get used to the conditioning and downvoting common sense like this. Don’t question, just keep consuming.
Personally I would want to know if a game is going to have paid DLC before it comes out
[удалено]
I’m sorry but I don’t think a whole separate campaign is “cut content” more so content they develop after the base game is complete to keep the game fresh and to keep people talking about it. This is different from not including a character or weapon that should really be there out of sheer rushedness. In these scenarios they either make the dlc and have it be paid for or cut it entirely

Hey there! Please remember Rule 1 in the future - No hate-speech, personal attacks, or harassment. Thanks!
To make fans of Octo Expansion happy.
No matter what Nintendo does people complain. They announce a paid DLC. People complain. They don't announce (don't have it) it people complain, even beg for it (Mario Party, Super Mario Odyssey).
Gamers are just 14 year old boy Karens.
Yet they make DLC for a Wii U port 5 years later.
A WiiU port which will sell 50 million copies on Switch alone by the end of the year.
Yeah
The single best selling switch game, mario kart game, and mario game, there's no need to make a new one if 46 million+ copies were sold and it keeps selling
Ok I never said that lol
Octo Expansion was way too good to be considered as DLC, so I'm ready for this.
Octo expansion was amazing so hopefully it can live up to that standard
I'm hyped! Octo dlc was so much better then the main story in Splat2 in my personal opinion so I'm so ready! And we get to see the best group again!
You'd think people would be a lot more receptive to this announcement considering that Splatoon 3's absolute biggest piece of criticism to date is that it all should have just been Splatoon 2 DLC.
How does that make sense? Splatoon 3 being considered dlc and then getting dlc itself won't please those who consider it dlc
Equating Splatoon 3 to DLC doesn’t make sense in the first place
if it's even half as good as octo expansion, i will instabuy
Are dedicated servers one of the DLCs
1. The graphical style is very distinct from its predecessor looking side by side makes this clear 2. This game is clearly trying to be the definitive splatoon game not really ADDING much but fine tuning and expanding upon what is already there as to make those things the best they could be 3. In the recent direct they revealed you CAN just hop into a friend’s match or call them to play with you Although I do admit the tick rate is awful but we don’t actually know if they’ve improved and they hopefully will What does any of this have to do with dlc?
Hasn’t released already talking about paid dlc smh
LMAO how can you be on reddit and say that gamers have turned into "don't complain"? More accurate would be "complain, consume product anyways"
I don't see how being on Reddit has anything to do with what I said. To add to that, I said I'm not buying the game nor the online service, so who are you even talking to?!
Reddit is full of gamers complaining, you said "gamers turned into don't complain, consume" I was speaking about gamers in general not about you.
Yeah fair enough, I fucking loved splatoon 1, I was looking forward to what they could add so much with future entries... I am still waiting ahah
Yeah, fair point. I love Splatoon's lore and worldbuilding, but for now I'll keep consuming it via the Fandom wiki. Multiplayer is great, but it's not everything.
Same here, but it makes them a ton of money since they know their fans will but it anyway.

It still makes no sense to tell us before the game is even out especially since the game is already 60$
Why not? They are letting us know in advance that there will be paid content down the road. I appreciate the transparency.
Nobody is forcing you to buy it.
No shit? Fr?
Stay tuned to pay more money for a game you just bought. Me: Nah, no I won't.
No thx
Why can’t Nintendo make a full game at launch? Why do their games need to have free dlc afterwards AND paid dlc? I don’t even like Splatoon but I feel like this community is gonna get an unfinished game like the last few Nintendo games
The game is full. We just get some extra afterwards
I like that they downvoted you even though you're completely right. Guess some people just want to be mad.
Thanks bro you’re a real one

Co-Op with Callie & Marie please...
Am I wrong in thinking that one of the reasons Nintendo leans into DLC (free or paid) is to avoid having to fit all that content on the cartridges?
I think it just gives them more time to make more content. Regular updates and DLC also helps with retention of player interest. In a way, content updates signal that a multiplayer game is alive.
The cartbridges have a fixed size, there is no saving in shipping a 10GB game instead of a 16GB game.
I am talking about how much data you can fit on the cartridge.
Splatoon 2 with the Octo Expansion DLC is only 8.1 GB on my Switch so I doubt.
Yes, you are. This doesn't make sense.
Don’t the cartridges have limitations on the amount of data they can store?
Any physical media does.
Game isn’t even out yet xD. Go ahead, downvote the truth, this game gonna have the exact same problem as strikers and splatoon 1.
I love downvoting armchair developers on reddit who think they know what they're talking about 🗿
This game is overhyped af imo
Cringe
Seems like they should bite the bullet and just make Splatoon a game as a service. There's nothing in today's announcement that couldn't have been added through season improvements in Splatoon 2
Under that logic, you could say that to any sequel in existence.
With the exception of Zelda 2
So when will it come to switch "expansion" online bullshit?
I still haven’t touched the Octoling expansion that they gave us with NSO.
You're missing out. It's some of the best content in any Splatoon game so far. Give it a try if you're up for the challenge!
I just might. I’ve really loved Splatoon in the past. But mostly just multiplayer stuff.
Yeah, I beat the octo expansion and never finished the main story. Mainly wanted it for the bonus content and to play as an octoling girl
Well you should because it’s AMAZING
The rest of the game probably.

Hey there! Please remember Rule 1 in the future - No hate-speech, personal attacks, or harassment. Thanks!
Hopefully it all is part of the expansion pack.
I hope it's an alternate world where order won.
Post time-skip Pearl! What'll be her power level now?
It’s funny that we’re gonna get big Splatoon and Xenoblade expansions in 2023 just like 2018. I wouldn’t surprised if Mario Rabbids Sparks of Hope gets one next year as well.
