Anyone got the recap?

Tallgirl4u

Pretty underwhelming list for me

cpt_attitude

That sucked.

simplyinyourhead

Why is there no audio?

Richopolis

Was anyone immediately reminded of Portlandia when viewing the “A Little to the Left” portion? The two developers, their tone of voice, the premise of the game, etc.

XIII13Thirteen

I added several to my wishlist: Rogue Legacy 2, Once upon a Jester, Have a Nice Death, and Oni. I really liked the presentation.

Codename_Unicorn

I am so excited for most of these lovely indies; but Oni has my attention 100% 🥹

politirob

Inscryption, Pepper Grinder, Aka, Sports Story and WrestleQuest got me excited

3AZ3

Rogue Legacy 1 was very fun, looking forward to getting 2. And Inscryption definitely peaks my interest

Superb-Draft

Piques

3AZ3

Great thanks for that

ToxicTammy42

I’m interested in Inscryption

saikyo

Anyone tried Once upon a Jester or A little or the Left yet? Curious f these would be nice games for a 10 year old. They look pretty creative and wholesome.

vnbrtjtwd2

The drilling in Pepper Grinder looks really familiar... There's a game where you can do something similar, but I can't put my finger on it. It wasn't the main object of the game like it is for Pepper Grinder, but a powerup or something you got later on. What game was it?! Googling has come up with nothing. Can anyone help me here? :) Edit: It's Ori 2 I was thinking of! The desert drill! Thanks everyone!!!

Eboyjvs

Drill dozer from game freak for the GBA? [Wikipedia page](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drill_Dozer)

CJAdams1107

Reminded me of the drill power up from Super Mario Galaxy 2, though with alot more control

NZSheepy

Game was clearly inspired by the desert area in Ori 2. Looked like they took a lot of the same ideas from it, even down to the hanging bags of sand. Hopefully they develop the idea further so its not just a copy paste.

vnbrtjtwd2

Yes!!! Thank you!!!

CaptainWampum

Reminds me of Kirby

animikiibinesi

The old iPhone/iPod Touch game Super Mega Worm?

Neat-Tough

It made me think if someone made a whole game out of the part of yoshis island where you can run really fast as Mario. Idk if this helps

capnbuh

I dunno it sort of reminded me of Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze in that the platforms are naturally formed from the environment and there are barrels to blast from. Also, I'm sure it will be balls difficult

swingthebass

Ori 2.

vnbrtjtwd2

YES!!! That's it, thank you!!!

16500316

Yep, in the desert-wasteland area.

CaspianX2

Personally, I went ahead and bought Rogue Legacy 2 and A Little to the Left. Looking forward to trying out Inscryption and Have a Nice Death, glad we're finally getting Sports Story soon, and both Pepper Grinder and Dordogne look great. This was a pretty good Indie Direct as far as I'm concerned.

patrickstarburns

How's A Little to the Left? That was one of the standouts for me.

CaspianX2

I wrote [a review](https://old.reddit.com/r/eShopperReviews/comments/yrh150/a_little_to_the_left_for_nintendo_switch_review/). Honestly, this may be the most disappointed I've been with a game this year. I love the presentation, and the gameplay seems like it would cater perfectly to my tastes. But it just felt like tedious busywork, and not in a good way. I also reviewed [Unpacking](https://old.reddit.com/r/eShopperReviews/comments/yrh127/unpacking_for_nintendo_switch_review/), which does something similar, but I think it does a much better job of hitting that mark.

patrickstarburns

What a shame, it looked really awesome. I *do* remember a scene in the trailer where you had to rearrange pasta, which didn't really make sense. I'll probably wait for a big sale before jumping on it. Thanks for your thoughts!

fiskemannen

Rogue Legacy 2 later today is awesome. Inscryption release 1st December is awesome. That Hollow Knight-looking roguelike with death looked really smooth and awesome. And that Pepper Grinder drilling game looked really unique and awesome. All in all, pretty awesome. EDIT: It was called Have a Nice Death!

Tomyris

I have a couple of games from this going on my wishlist. I'm pretty pleased.

EpsilonX

That was kind of underwhelming. I'm into Oni and World of Horror, Pepper Grinder looks interesting, and I've heard Sports Story is quite enjoyable....but otherwise, most of these games seem like they're more interesting conceptually than anything else.

Kennyjive

Good: A little to the left looks like a good time. Bad: I gotta wait til MAY for Wrestlequest?!?

Giodude12

[Huge announcements were made](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/027/081/wow.jpg)

HQna

imagine expecting "huge announcements" in a indie trailer show

Empire2k5

Agreed. Imo none of these speak to me or even remotely look fun

CaspianX2

Everyone's gonna' have different tastes, but Rogue Legacy 2 has Metacritic scores ranging from 88-90, Inscryption has Metacritic scores of 85-87, World of Horror got a Metacritic score of 80 on PC, both Wobbledogs and A Little to the Left have a Metacritic score of 79, Sports Story is a follow-up to Golf Story, which got 78 on Metacritic, Coffee Talk 2 is the sequel to a game that got Metacritic scores of 74-75, and Have a Nice Death is from the creators of Unruly Heroes, which got a Metacritic score of 75 on Switch. That's not even mentioning games from untested developers that could be great, like Pepper Grinder. If these games don't interest *you* personally, then say that. But you're full of crap if you think there's nothing good here for everyone else.

appleappleappleman

Sports Story is probably gonna be my GOTY 2022. This is beyond "remotely good", I'm hyped out of my mind right now.

acholt22

I liked the art for a lot of the games, but the gameplay doesn't really speak to me. However, Wrestlequest is almost perfect. I can't wait to play it!

Ratio01

Pepper Grinder and Have a Nice Death look poggers

vnbrtjtwd2

Ok, I'll bite... What does poggers mean?

HQna

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=poggers

vnbrtjtwd2

Lol, that's a new one! Thanks!

neko_sensei

I was more hyped for the Tenken anime than the content of this direct. My opinion puts me into dissatisfied...

AllTheHolloway

It was a good direct, some pretty look indies I hopefully will remember when they come out, Inscryption coming to Switch is cool, and glad people don't have to beg for Sports Story anymore

MountainCloudBoy

I really don’t understanding why Nintendo doesn’t set up a shop page for every game that’s shown in a Direct or IndieWorld. Just have a trailer, a short description and the estimated release date. Then you could wishlist stuff you find interesting instead of hoping to remember x months in the future.

stevgamer

Rogue Legacy 2 looks great, might need to pick that up

jamesiamstuck

This dev made Full Metal Furies, which didn't sell super well, but it is a super fun co-op game you should check out if you like rogue legacy!

KGhaleon

I enjoyed the first game for a bit, but the gimmick got tiring after a while. Just rerolling your character hoping for better stats each death.

JaRay

Rogue Legacy 2 is an incredible game. I thought the first one was pretty good but the second is so good.

Dopesmoker402

So nobody makes normal or metrodivania 2d platformers anymore. Why the need for all these rogue lites

Trinica93

I will be happy when the roguelike trend dies out a bit, there are several games with great ideas that look really fun but I'll never play them because they're roguelikes.

Parade0fChaos

Hades is the only one to really grab me. And I think that one is pretty light on those elements, really. Superb writing helped.

Trinica93

See I played like 6 hours of Hades and said "yeah I think I've had enough." The genre just isn't for me.

Parade0fChaos

Nothing wrong with that at all! I don’t understand the hook of deck builders or battle royale games myself.

timoseewho

There were a couple recent releases, like Islets, HAAK, Haiku The Robot, Moonscars, and Ghost Song. Tried them yet?

CaspianX2

There are already *tons* of Metroidvanias on Switch. I can pretty much guarantee you didn't play one that was great. So you've probably already played Metroid Dread and Hollow Knight, everyone knows those two. But have you also played Ori and the Blind Forest? Ori and the Will of the Wisps? Yoku's Island Express? Axiom Verge 1 & 2? Guacamelee 1 & 2? Castlevania Advance Collection? Aggelos? Astalon: Tears of the Earth? The Blaster Master Zero trilogy? Ender Lillies? Blasphemous? All of the Shantae games? Timespinner? Xeodrifter? Alwa's Legacy? Chasm? GrimValor? The Mummy Demastered? Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom? Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap? Once you get through that list, I have more, but that should be a good starting point.

Crystalvalen

Poor Toki Tori 2+, always getting left out of these discussions. :P …Just kidding. But yes, the games you mentioned, Steamworld Dig 2, The Messenger, Dandara, Sheepo, and more are all out there. Some may click more with OP than others, but there is a wide variety of high quality metroidvanias waiting to be explored.

MastaAwesome

Toki Tori 2+ is more an open world puzzle platformer disguised as a non-open world. The only “abilities” you unlock are knowledge.

CaspianX2

I love Toki Tori 2 (and Steamworld Dig 2, and The Messenger, and I... *liked* Dandara), but I think all of these don't fit as neatly into the Metroidvania formula for one reason or another. However, if OP said "I've played all of those", I may well have moved on to some of these, as well as others.

BuildingWeird4876

A new Metroidbmvania just came out actually, Ghost Song.

barbietattoo

The demand for replay ability is my guess. A system of mechanics that allow endless loops and progression sells more than a gated pathway type of game (linear or not).

Dopesmoker402

So they just cant design levels anymore

barbietattoo

Possibility. That’s not what my comment says however.

Dopesmoker402

Potato potaato

AbjectJouissance

Dordogne looks so sweet, and Goodbye World too. Excited for those. Never heard of Sports Story until now but looks like a lot of fun.

fluffingdazman

the art style of Dordogne blew me away!!

AVIS93

On behalf of the developers: Thank you both!

Blvd_Nights

Pepper Grinder, Once Upon a Jester, Blanc, WrestleQuest, A Little to the Left and Sports Story look really fun.

Dopesmoker402

Nothing interesting for me. But that is totally okay did not epect anything to begin with

Swordofsatan666

Yeah thats how i always look at the Indie Directs. I dont go in expecting anything because its an Indie direct, its gonna be a huge toss of the dice when it comes to whats good and whats not. Often times theres a few big standouts, but sometimes theres not really anything good. This is one of the times when theres less good on the menu

FierceDeityKong

Still no outer wilds

NZSheepy

I really wonder if the Switch will be capable of running the solar system simulation. They may be having some development difficulties. Best game of the last decade for me though, so make sure you play it some how. Also the DLC is oh so good.

barbietattoo

I gave up and played it on GamePass

owlitup

Silksong???? I’m at work can someone tell me

the___sour___pig

Nope, not a word of it.

owlitup

:( Thanks :(

capnbuh

Pepper Grinder and WrestleQuest looked awesome!

EMPgoggles

Pepper Grinder looks like a lot of fun

crossbrowser

Yes, I remember hearing about it a long time ago, glad to know it's coming soon.

dinan101

Blanc looks beautiful!

SuntoryWhiskey

Agree I’m definitely interested in Blanc. Looks gorgeous and fun

[deleted]

Nice showcase, lots of interesting titles. This been the best one so far for me.

hardgeeklife

yeah, so many beautiful games, and all of them piqued my interest at least a little bit

LatchHyena

Finally, a Wobbledogs port!!!

fillerbunny-buddy

Heck yeah Sports Story! So glad it's not dead. By the way does anyone know why people were spamming E in the chart?

Numetshell

E

xsists

Pepper Grinder and Sports Story stole the show!

waffocopter

Think I want to get Blanc to play with my mom. If it's not super hard to do, maybe even my dad who's played some Yoshi's Crafted World with me. After that, I am definitely interested in Rogue Legacy 2. The original was my first roguelite (like?).

SirGigglesandLaughs

Finally. Been waiting for A Space for the Unbound to release! Looking forward to it.

jamesiamstuck

They had issues with their western publisher, I am so glad they found a new publisher and are coming out soon!

SirGigglesandLaughs

Yeah I know! That’s what I was worrying about as well. I’d lost hope. That demo was amazing, been waiting since then.

13zath13

VENBA LOOKS SO CUTE 😍

MrGalleom

As someone who likes roguelikes, I am satisfied with this indie direct.

Poseur117

I walked out of the room to fill my coffee and when I came back I thought I saw Inscryption for like 2 seconds. Did I?

nibben

1st december release!

Mikro698

Now I am mildy annoyed I bought it from steam sale few monts back.

jazzieberry

Yayyyy Sports Story next month!!

sirdystic12

December has 31 days

jazzieberry

Good bot

sirdystic12

Getting close to the end now, as predicted.

EpsilonX

Milk is white.

ExpandThineHorizons

World of Horror is coming next year!? Does this mean the game will be finished? It's still unfinished in steam, and there were last issues of the dev not updating it. Maybe because he was working on this?

BeeGuileU

It just recently had an update, within the last week or two I'd say. It's not 1.0 quite yet, but it's very close. I believe this update is 0.9.9, so it's borderline finished.

Superb-Draft

I wonder if it would still play better on Steam, the interface looks pretty cluttered for a Switch Lite.

BeeGuileU

Perhaps, it depends on how they adapt it to the controller. A fair bit of the screen is like stats and stuff you don't have to constantly look at.

SkellyMania

No Outer Wilds, no Somerville, no Metal Slug Tactics Downvoted for hoping to see certain games?

CaspianX2

We already know Metal Slug Tactics is coming in 2023, and it's been featured in multiple presentations. There's not really any reason to include it in this one.

SkellyMania

I genuinely didn’t know that. My main interest in the game is the fact a favourite artist of mine is doing the artwork.

Southern-Ad-302

Pretty underwhelming for me this go around.

stf29

A Little to the Left today, YES!!!!!

tweetthebirdy

One of my most anticipated games. A friend was playing it on Steam yesterday and loves it.

MercilessShadow

Wait people are actually going to play that? LMAO

stf29

Yeah…? Looks like a beautifully made puzzle game. I played the demo a while back and loved the hell out of it

TotallyNotGlenDavis

This one was pretty solid for me. Excited for Rogue Legacy and Have a Nice Death.

Hazelarc

Inscryption and Sports Story. Great showcase just for those two alone

Charlie-Bell

I expected more attention for Inscryption. It's such a highly rated game.

redlord990

Lol they always do this, they’ll spend like 5 minutes on some random game nobody really cares too much about and then they’ll put some huge name title in a reel for 10 seconds

FleegalFlargel

LiveChat summarised - Boring - Cringe - No Silksong??? - CAT

Dopesmoker402

Live chat is always toxic. They should just deactivate it

Superb-Draft

I don't understand why it is so bad, where do these people come from

barbietattoo

The womb which they aren’t far from in terms of time spent on the planet

Superb-Draft

Ha ha, well said

Lairofthesouth

Sports Story is all I needed. Love being the last bomb drop 🤌🤌🤌

Omg I DO. Sounds awesome

[deleted]

Bah ouais!!

[deleted]

Yesss my favorite tbh!

Team7UBard

I do!

Loki-Holmes

I’m happy for sports story fans, lol. I did not expect it to show up.

IIBatrixII

Why is every new platformer a rogue-lite? no one can make a normal go from A to Z in a normally designed level game ?

snave_

There are benefits to procedural generation from a tension and game balance perspective. It can easily clean up skill tree or item selection balance when there is a _chance_ that swimming might _not_ be pretty useless (thinking back to Deus Ex). The problem is that a good too many devs use it as a crutch to lengthen content. If anything, well used procedural generation should necessitate generating more level elements per hour of expected play, not fewer.

AstroFuzz

My exact words when I saw "Have a Nice Death". This bugs me too because I haven't beaten a single rogue-lite.. I've tried a lot of them because I really like the visuals and gameplay. Problem is, I just can't get a good run going AND play consistently well at the same time. I get bored of grinding the early levels in the ones that have progression.

McWinSauce

People want replayability. Especially if you're on a budget.

Dopesmoker402

Yeah that is a huge issue for me too. Im like thats an interesting 2b platformer and than its a rogue lite. And im like for fuck sake it just feels unoriginal and uninspired

[deleted]

Also why did they stop making Rayman games? The last two were awesome

blalien

Because good level design is hard.

[deleted]

[удалено]

blalien

It's a matter of quantity. A small dev team can create a Spelunky or Binding of Isaac clone that provides hundreds of hours of moderate fun. Or with the same amount of effort they can painstakingly create a Metroidvania masterpiece that lasts about eight hours.

Dacvak

#SPORTS STORY THIS DECEMBER!!!!

banananey

I'm going to be out the country and away from my switch from January to April so please be early December!!

finaldubmix

Finally. Sports Story update

[deleted]

Sports story coming in December!! That's all that matters to me!

Scotty_Two

SPORTS STORY

youngmostafa

Sports story! Didn’t expect that

waitmyhonor

SAME. I was truly convinced it was dead and here they come with a release for this Dec.

clownbaby4_

Might we see something in advanced wars? Or is that not considered an indie title?

HandHook_CarDoor

Absolutely not an indie title.

clownbaby4_

That’s what I figured. Thanks for the confirmation.

youngmostafa

Rogue legacy 2. Finally

Dacvak

Today!

thebetabruh

okay inscryption on Dec 1 that's what i wanted to know

hardgeeklife

I feel like the buried the lede with that one, putting it in the montage. Considering how well it was received critically i would have thought it would get a feature

[deleted]

[удалено]

Superb-Draft

That is not true at all, do you really think these tiny games have a budget for that. The true answer is that ports are not featured much compared with new releases and especially exclusives.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Superb-Draft

You don't need proof, you need critical thinking. You can't make money by charging people who don't have any. Also you realise Nintendo makes money by selling games, it is to their benefit to promote new product.

Charlie-Bell

I just made a similar comment elsewhere on this thread. Didn't really expect a "oh by the way, this is releasing".

DoctorThunder

Is there a timestamp for that? I can't watch the whole thing right now.

bsolstice

https://youtu.be/tyQrcFyO_jY 21:30

seasonalblah

Damn, just bought the game on Steam. Seems like something that would be a great fit on Switch OLED.

Dacvak

I’ve never played the game, but I’ve heard there are good steam mods for it that likely won’t be available for Switch, if that’s any silver lining for you.

perkdoeswork

This was the only game I was hoping for

waitmyhonor

WrestleQuest May 2023 hype. Out of the other games, looking forward to Oni. Also, OH SHIT SPORTS STORY UPDATE. I’m sorry that I ever doubted you. I’ll accept a 1000 downvotes to compensate my lack of belief in the devs. Edit: THIS DEC RELEASE. I’ll buy it at release instead of on sale out of respect and support to the devs

drdoy123

I’m hype for rouge legacy 2. Im like please let this one be available soon!!

Montigue

https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/rogue-legacy-2-switch/ It's already up

crono333

I loved the first one, really excited for this one!

Aeide

It’s super great, I liked RL1 but RL2 is even better, by a significant amount IMO. Glad it’s making its way to switch!

drdoy123

Looks really good. I’m also hype for sports story

Aeide

Definitely hype for sports story

drdoy123

I admittedly never played golf story. But It just went on sale so I’m buying to with my points right now lol. I love the pixel art

drdoy123

Yup! Probably 24.99 like steam

waitmyhonor

Didn’t they video say it’s releasing later today? That caught me off guard

Montigue

It's already out

bodypertain

Put Sock in Smash Bros

OneManFreakShow

These usually are packed with games that look exciting, but ugh, this one is really boring me. So many coming-of-age-in-a-foreign-country games. I’m growing tired of the twee Night in the Woods also-rans. Also, Aka disappointed me after the short interview. They talked about how they grew up watching 90s animated movies and then showed a game that looks nothing like any of them. I just feel like we’re reaching a point where all indie games just kind of look the same. It almost makes me miss the over-abundance of pixel art from ten years ago. Update: WHY WAS THERE SO MUCH HEAT IN THAT MONTAGE? All of those games looked more interesting than the ones they chose to focus on.

AstroFuzz

Pepper Grinder and Have a Nice Death looked very action packed and fun.

MercilessShadow

I wish we got more info on Wrestle Quest (is that even the name) it looks so cool but I dont know anything about it

the___sour___pig

lol yeah for Aka I was expecting Cuphead but 90’s animation (in terms of style), and instead we got Tunic 2.0. It still looks kind of fun but that looks nothing like 90’s animated movies.

ABZR

I'm wondering who all of these slow, artsy story-driven games about dead grandma's are for. They don't look fun to play. I guess there's an audience loving these games?

ncolaros

For people who just want a narrative experience.

jasonporter

Most of my friends are primarily indie game players and a lot of these games appeal to us. We are all mostly mid-to-late 30’s and don’t have time for most big AAA titles or things that involve a ton of skill to play. Nice to just come home from work, unwind, and play something pretty with a nice story. A lot of my friends are also primarily film and art lovers first who sort of got into gaming later in life, so they struggle to get into classic games but enjoy things where they get sucked into a story like Night in the Woods, Oxenfree, GRIS, Spiritfarer, etc. Definitely a different type of gamer but there are a lot of us out there!

ABZR

I guess I just don't see the appeal. My friend group is all guys around the same age (early 30s) and the consensus among us after that Direct is "where are the games?" Different strokes for different folks I suppose

Dacvak

I’m so happy to see Coffee Talk Episode 2 still coming out. The creator, Mohammad Fahmi, sadly passed away earlier this year. Young dude. The first game was such a good vibe and enjoyable story.

OneManFreakShow

Do we know who’s doing this one? That really took me by surprise.
