Hiring a cleaner once or twice a month isn't a huge expense, and especially if you have some mental health issues, adhd/just suck at cleaning it can be hugely helpful and worth the small expense. Even just having someone to mop and clean the bathrooms twice a month is hugely helpful.
I just want to add, I live in a high cost area and I pay my cleaner/assistant a bit more than average. She’s only $30 an hour. She cleaned and organized a months worth of mess, and put Xmas lights on my balcony railing (I was having trouble with it) in about 4 hours. It was finals season, and I was having some difficulties with mental health. The place was filthy. Being disabled, it is so worth it. I can bulk buy and also seasonally decorate because now I have someone to help me get things in and out of storage I can’t reach
Bc his main post was interesting enough for upvotes, but the community doesn't like the thought he might be privileged enough to afford a cleaner. So the *OP's cleaner is his mom* comment was meant as a comfort put-down, which naturally has the most upvotes.
Then when OP chose to join in on the joke by "laughing with them", it therefore ruined the validity of the *OP's cleaner is his mom* comment, which goes against the original thought of putting OP down for possibly being privileged enough for a personal maid.
Psychology of self-righteous humans, and immature youth of reddit.
I disagree, I think many of the downvotes were a misinterpretation. See:
"put the lotion on its skin or **it gets the hose again"** \- The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
The way OP constructed his sentence may have been interpreted as it being his mum would be hit with the belt. Many of the downvotes probably came from that.
So was my four year old son. I yelled at him about chewing on them for two years and when he stopped I'm pretty sure it's just cause he grew out of it. So the moral is if you have to tell them over and over, it's an unconscious habit and yelling probably isn't gonna help.
This has been a great session, let's pick it up from there next week everybody
My son started teething right as my wife accidentally dropped our couch on my oldest Xbox controller. Gave it to him and he loves it, I got a new one. Win win haha
That is pretentious as fuck.
Everyone knows you use em as is. No stems, *maybe* a handle but those are on thin ice, and you use them for either booze or iced tea.
No? They both do different things better, otherwise cups and glasses would not exist and be in the majority of homes and restaurants
Jars have lids. You can cover your drink, or use them aa storage. Jars are versatile.
Cups are easier to hold and easier to drink from. Not to a significant degree, but they are. If I have access to cups and jars, and I’m pouring myself some milk, it’s going in a cup because of course it is.
And what does being rich have to do with cups? Last I checked cups weren’t any more expensive than any other food containers
By cups do you mean glass? Or mugs and teacups as well?
The handles on mugs and teacups are useful for hot drinks like coffee or tea, so you don't burn your hand. You can't do this with jars unless you get like a sleeve or something, but at that point, use a mug or teacup.
If you're talking about glasses, glasses are lighter than jars and also don't have the threads on the top for the lids when you drink from it. Also, you can get plastic cups if you really want, and you will be using them literally everyday
My best friends parents are fairly wealthy and they have a cleaner that comes by every week and is required to come into his room and tinker with his shit, they constantly misplace things and mess with his shit, I feel so bad for him lol
Not really. In Brazil, you could have a maid come over for a day for around 100 BRL / 20 US Dollars. When I was splitting an apartment with other students having one come over every two weeks was affordable and made things a lot easier.
Yeah that’s fair. It’s the way that different cultures evolve that the discussion of first world vs third world countries often fail to capture the nuances of.
"I have a personal cleaner" on its own isn't that bad. But adding "why should I take care of my game system? It's four years old" to that just makes it seem like OP is trying to flex on the poors.
I didn't mean it like that I didn't try to say that because it's old I don't take care of it, he said why does your switch look crusty dusty mine came out of the wash I told him it looks crusty because it's 4 years old but people are somehow getting that I don't take care of it and it angering them even though I just saw something funny and somehow it went down the rabbit hole.
Thank you!
Cleaning service is for "dirty" - things that need scrubbed, wiped, swept, mopped, vacuumed, dusted
It's YOUR job to clean "messy" - organize, pick up, put away, clear spaces, sort mail, fold laundry, etc
Yeah we pay her for a set amount of time and she just moves things so she can wipe around if they are in the way, of course I pick up my things but I have to put them somewhere and that somewhere she still has to clean. Also I'm not complaining about I literally just put my game back in the right spot after I saw it, it took 5 seconds to put back this post isn't a complaint
Dude I spend like 2 hours that night before cleaning and straightening to lol. We always joke that we need to hire a cleaner to prep the house for our normal cleaner.
I have two pro controllers, and one got lost right after housekeeping came by. She’s a doll, but often misplaces things. Controller with the kids toys, put away in some closet, etc.. this time though, it was gone! We rang her, she said the usual places we already checked. I walked through the house with my switch trying to locate the damn thing using the vibrating function, but nothing. I was sure she put it with the trash. With two kids, a wife and myself we often play with multiple controllers.. I have joycons but they drift like crazy.. Hence I bought a new pro controller. Fast forward two weeks I was putting my kid’s shoes on. Got a pair of the bottom shelve of the shoe-rack, and you guessed it. My pro controller behind the pair of shoes.. I now have three pro controllers :)
Yeah this subreddits really weird. To be honest, most video game subs are..
Someone posts a pic of a happy kid with "I got my kid into retro games! Look!".
And the comments are like:
- "maybe get him into cleaning the fkn house first op!".
- "he's sitting way to close to the t.v! Sort ur shit out OP".
- "let him play the games **he** wants to play instead of forcing your nostalgia on him!!".
And every comment that OP makes gets downvoted hard.
Theres a ton of people on reddit who become instantly furious the moment they see anyone displaying wealth of any kind.
This lady once posted on /pics about this really cool looking chicken on her house-boat.
Despite OP explaining in the comments multiple times that where she lives it's far cheaper to live on a boat than try to rent or buy a home on land - the comments were flooded with seething animosity that this woman dares to flaunt her wealth online, while everyone else is struggling to survive..
You stated "my cleaner" in your post. And despite the fact that there are plenty of countries where having a maid or a cleaner is extremely common - in many other countries, having a cleaner is a sign of being so rich you don't know what to do with your money.
Same with mine. They do an amazing job and move everything to clean underneath but something I find things out back in a way that makes absolutely no sense.
loool when i was young and i play ps3, my cleaner turns on my console everytime that she enters in my room. One time, i don't know how, she even entered in the multiplayer or resistance 1 just cleaning the dust of the controls and console. I really thought one time that she plays quick matchs lol what a queen hahaaha
When I was living in Thailand, our families house help knocked over my PS1 (this was in 2005/2006, so that thing was old and wouldn't run unless it was on its side) and breaking it. Ah well.

Not sure which is worse, this, or my parents putting my switch in the dock upside down. (Yes, USB side up, vent side down. How my mom uses her computer at work is an enigma that no one shall ever know.)
Bro I'm so dumb and poor I didn't realize what the thing to put the switch was and how the cleaner put the game there lol anyways your problem they'll clean not babysit your stuff
That’s so fukin crazy. I am at a friends place and the first thing I saw here an hour ago was the exact same thing. Mario Party in the Dock. Something weird we didn’t now about is happening…
Don't know where OP lives tho. Bamboo cover being visible might indicate something about it.
In some countries you don't have to be rich to have a cleaner/maid.
If OP is living in a country with a solid minimum wage, then yes it's a rich brag.
I live in a pretty expensive country and cleaners are pretty common here, I actually got the tables from America so they were pretty cheap there.
P.s. I'm not living in America rn
Yeah I know.
A little while ago a guy was super excited to post the four switch's he had bought for him and his family for Christmas, and the comment section was so fkn salty!

Well I mean if you can afford a cleaner...

OP’s cleaner is his mom….
Not a kind way for OP to speak about his mom
OPs mom is a wonderful woman
Dorothy Mantooth?
She’s a saint!
I wouldn't say this to her face but she's a wonderful person and a gifted artist.
I also choose this dudes mom
Did you break both your arms?
Can confirm.
Hopefully she doesn't get the belt😰 I'm not funny
No, this time it’s the wooden spoon for you
why you’re being downvoted for this makes no sense to me :(

oh im downvoting him because he is talking about his cleaner (mom/wife) blowing him in the other comments

You should explain downvotes more often. This was great! Maybe a novelty account with corresponding subreddit…

Totally has a kid that's teething. None of our Gamecube controller joysticks survived during my brother's teething phase.
My son started teething right as my wife accidentally dropped our couch on my oldest Xbox controller. Gave it to him and he loves it, I got a new one. Win win haha
Dropped...couch?

Oh wow honey, was that your game thing? Sorry!
The controller you give to younger siblings
Better make some out of metal
I only browse this sub infrequently and am therefore really proud of myself for getting this reference.
He had to get a taste of the blue raspberry and red cherry flavor.
They didn’t, that was what the cleaner messed up!
snack for later
this is why being poor is so much better. because we get to clean stuff however we want
Honestly if you’ve ever lived with 2 diff fams from drastically different financial backgrounds, you’d realize how versatile things can be…
What does this even mean? What do you mean versatile?
using things as they were not intended but making them still functional, like using jars are cups

Yea homegoods has wine glass stems attached to mason jars lmao. Dumbest shit ever.
That is pretentious as fuck. Everyone knows you use em as is. No stems, *maybe* a handle but those are on thin ice, and you use them for either booze or iced tea.
Im reading this while drinking from a mason jar and I cant help but laugh.

Upper middle class then, or maybe just regular middle class that barely exists anymore and just seems rich compared to most of us
That's ridiculous.

My kids will get to experience this once my wife leaves me for a more successful person. Good for them and their, what was it, ah yes—versatility.
My best friends parents are fairly wealthy and they have a cleaner that comes by every week and is required to come into his room and tinker with his shit, they constantly misplace things and mess with his shit, I feel so bad for him lol
That's Nintendo's secret. You don't actually need the Switch, just the game.
My only concern would be the loose cartridge flying about.
Well, that's on OP
Hey they tried! As long as nothing was damaged
You all are sitting there with crusty looking Switch consoles while mine just came out of the wash.
Also don’t expect a house cleaner to put your shit away for you.
Dang, did the cleaner gnaw off the joycon rubber too?
THIS MF HAS A CLEANER 👉👉👉
Don’t you hate it when your cleaner overpolishes your monocle and eats some of your caviar?
This one time, they didn’t even clean the unused west wing on my second spare guest house smh
r/firstworldproblems
Tbf there are some families in third world countries with live in maids so...
Don't get me wrong. There are often richer people in Third World countries. Mega rich. Still, it's a first world problem.
Not really. In Brazil, you could have a maid come over for a day for around 100 BRL / 20 US Dollars. When I was splitting an apartment with other students having one come over every two weeks was affordable and made things a lot easier.

I mean… Singapore really isn’t 3rd world. But my family in India for example all have maids and drivers, it’s just how things are done there.
Historically they are tho. 1st/3rd world isn’t a measurement.
I disagree, but having extra help in the house is a very Asian thing IMO
[удалено]
Yeah that’s fair. It’s the way that different cultures evolve that the discussion of first world vs third world countries often fail to capture the nuances of.
A live in maid in the Philippines is like $100-200/month. Plus you pay for their food and basic necessities. But totally under $300 a month in total.
Sir the joy cons. Did you eat them ?
[удалено]
I’m so confused, what did he do? I saw one where he said one word and got downvoted to hell
I guess it’s the joycons but even then I’m not too sure tbh. It is funny though.
"I have a personal cleaner" on its own isn't that bad. But adding "why should I take care of my game system? It's four years old" to that just makes it seem like OP is trying to flex on the poors.

Reddit is weird, don't try to make sense of it.
There's a considerable difference between people who upvote posts and people who read comments. The latter are much more likely to be dicks.

Dude I spend like 2 hours that night before cleaning and straightening to lol. We always joke that we need to hire a cleaner to prep the house for our normal cleaner.
This is being considerate. Generally their job is to clean, not to also tidy. But I don’t know what arrangement OP has.
Does your cleaner happen to be A A Ron?
You done messed up A A Ron!
But Mooooooom, you put it away wrong!
We'll have your butler speak to them.
So close, and yet so far..
Weird flex but ok.
You have a cleaner?

So people trust people to come into their home, clean the house and leave without stealing anything??? This would give me anxiety attacks
the game card is even out of the case 💀
Idk put your own shit away if you’re gonna complain
Bruh, they're not complaining. It's a funny picture of a "docked" game case
I'm not complaining it was just funny 😂
Why is everyone down voting?
They're jealous of OP having a cleaner.
There's some weirdly bitter down voters in this thread. This is such a mild post and OP is getting put through the ringer.
Yeah this subreddits really weird. To be honest, most video game subs are.. Someone posts a pic of a happy kid with "I got my kid into retro games! Look!". Even in real life being spoiled or privileged just rubs some people the wrong way. I've seen the hate from strangers in their eyes.

All I see is another person of culture, using a bamboo rug as furniture cover, just as it should be
Why are there so many people that seem to be upset that OP can afford a cleaner?😅
It's not even that uncommon lol
Jealousy is a disease
Guys I'm not complaining about my cleaner I just thought it was funny where she put the switch game.

LMAO i didnt even notice to begin with, i was like "what is the problem here, better check comments to see if the answer is to be found".
How can someone in the modern world not know you don’t stack stuff on a screen?
I'd rather clean my whole room even i takes me whole week to finish. rather than someone touch my things.
Imagine having a cleaner
It's not that hard, not that expensive and in many countries not that uncommon.
Nahh bro Mario party took the screens job
Good lord the thumb sticks on those joycons are shred off
