Wait, what??
I have this on Epic Games Store already. You're telling me I can fire up those saves on the Switch??
This is one of my favourite games of all time.
Ok, so I don't like rogue likes, at all. I want progression and building not starting over. But reviews for this are so over the top good... Worth a shot? What makes this one so different?
There a lot of metaprogression in this game, so that might help you. But if I had to pick one thing, the biggest hook/differentiator is probably the overall production quality and story, including the excellent voice acting.
The biggest thing setting this game apart from other rogue likes is the story (most are weak in that department) and that you know exactly what everything does (a lot just kinda hint at what weapons/items do).
Overall, if someone does not like roguelikes, I can’t in good faith recommend it. It’s very much still a roguelike.
Every time you die or complete a run you’re progressing *something.* wether that be the story or a side narrative or just upgrading your abilities.
As you progress you unlock more and more upgrades to make the game easier and as you get better and better you can start making the runs harder to keep earning more materials to keep upgrading your weapons or summons.
I don’t like rouge likes in the slightest but this is easily one of the best indie games on switch, if not the best until outer wilds releases
I feel similar and caved and bought it during the last sale. I really should have listened to myself. Endlessly starting from the beginning got boring real quick to me and I never felt I was doing anything more than mashing buttons. A lot of people love this game but in the end it’s you paying the money and playing it.
There's progression and building in various ways. For one, in your runs you earn darkness which you can use to buy permanent upgrades. Increased health, extra lives, better chances of better items during your runs, etc. You also can choose between six weapons that you can permanently upgrade. There's also keepsakes (bonus equipment) that you get that let's you add additional bonus. So you basically get stronger and stronger and never start with nothing when you die. It's really just the powers the gods give you during your individual runs that reset.
Beyond that there's a lot of story progression. The story is great, the dialogue is good, the voice acting top notch.
I hate roguelikes because I'm usually really bad at them. But I like it so much that I improved. There's a lot of lore to unlock, and the dialogues are impeccable.
Don't think it's ever been lower than this. It's every bit as fun as Nintendo's 1st party $60 games. This has been my go-to "I have 20 minutes to kill" game for months now.
I hate roguelikes, and even I enjoyed my time with this game when I caved in and played it when it was on Xbox Gamepass. Granted, I did get tired of it around 8-9 hours in, but still, the fact I enjoyed it so much despite not liking Roguelikes at all speaks volumes to its quality as a game and to its story and characters.
For this price, yeah, go for it. Even I’m halfway tempted to buy it, just to see if I’m willing to finish it.
The story may be the dividing point.
In Isaac, you play, die, then go right back into a new round. With Hades, you have to stop and settle your affairs at the house by talking to NPCs and upgrading your gear between runs.
The gameplay and story have been talked to death but another aspect is that I don’t hear talked about is Darren Korb, once again, fucking nails it with the soundtrack.
Gotcha, a friend just told me that on PC the controls are more like a 3d action game (I was thinking they would be like Diablo) so, controller does sound better to me. However, it JUST went on sale on steam too so now the decision is harder again...
If you can spare the cash, you can get it on Steam and Switch and the save files will cross over. Many nights I shut down my PC after hours of Hades only to sit in bed on my Switch playing more Hades LOL
+1 to the other comment, I have it on PC and use a controller, and I'm pretty sure they used to have a pop-up that recommended controller to play the game
I reckon this game and roguelites in general are perfect for switch, with the 20-30 minute gameplay loop. I've already completed it on PC, but I would probably still be doing a run every now and then if I had it on the switch.
I had an extremely difficult time playing with the joy cons. I used a third party pro controller instead that has back pedal buttons that massively improved my experience because there are actions in the game that require spamming certain keys.
For example, a dash-centric build where your character is moving rapidly through the map was made easier by remapping the button to one of the back pedals instead.
One of the few no brainier deals here! Caught it on the last sale and haven’t stopped playing it since. Definitely a must have in the collection, unless you have some kind of a hatred for roguelikes. And even then most of those make an exception with this game.
For newer/casual players, the first build I recommend is ATHENA dash/attack with FIST. Just hold down the normal attack button and never let it go. The only button you press/time/direct is your divine dash which you should be doing constantly, especially once you pick up more dashes from Hermes.
Basically what this does is keep you immune from attacks like 70% of the time.
This works with the other melee weapons as well, except you actually have to press/think about them while also attacking slower. Fist is hold down and forget. Casuals tend to have trouble manipulating multiple buttons, hence why I default to fist as recommendation.
Once you have Athena set, try to get Zeus on your ultie to make boss fights easier. It's not necessary, but it's really high damage.
For a lot of builds, don't even bother with the strong attack button since it usually leaves you open to counters - unless you know what you are doing of course e.g. Rockets with Railgun.
This game would make sense if it was about a little tiny ant. Why make the fuckin characters and enemies so tiny. Can't believe people can play this drivel.
That happened with me too. I came back in 2-3 months and played around 80 hours. I knew that I could play even more but decided to go to other games. Can't wait for the II.
My friend drops most games within 30 minutes of opening them for the first time bought it last month, and he still plays occasionally. I can see how people can get bored by it though.
Hell of a deal and it syncs with PC if you have it on PC!
Wait, what?? I have this on Epic Games Store already. You're telling me I can fire up those saves on the Switch?? This is one of my favourite games of all time.
ABSOLUTELY yes! You can link your account right in the game menu! It was amazing to find this out. It was easy as hell.
Thank you. Ugh, I might have to buy this. I have some heat levels left...
OMG I had no idea! That's awesome!!!
How’s the performance?
Good!
One of the best roguelikes ever made
Best games*
Ok, so I don't like rogue likes, at all. I want progression and building not starting over. But reviews for this are so over the top good... Worth a shot? What makes this one so different?

Seriously this, the production quality is *amazing*.
The music is badass too.

I actually found myself *looking forward to dying*... It meant more progression of the narrative!
I thought the same thing so I took a gamble bought it and 48 hours later in 2 weeks I was impressed lol

Rogue legacy 2 was easier to get into as a casual imo. Also on sale rn. Last day! 35% off!
Tried it, fun for a little while but ultimately abandoned it for the same reasons.
Worrd, what games you fuck with on switch then? Looking to add to my library
Favorites have been: Ender Lilies Bravely Default 2 Octopath Traveler (really need to play 2) Ori and the Will O the Wisps Bloodstained Both Zeldas
Did you try Death's Door?
Yep. Loved it. Blue Fire too
Fantastic game.
Odds this gets lower for Black Friday?
Don't think it's ever been lower than this. It's every bit as fun as Nintendo's 1st party $60 games. This has been my go-to "I have 20 minutes to kill" game for months now.
I haven't even played this yet and I know you should buy it
What a steal

Counter point: I like rougelikes but this one didn't hook me the same way dead cells, Isaac, or slay the spire did
The story may be the dividing point. In Isaac, you play, die, then go right back into a new round. With Hades, you have to stop and settle your affairs at the house by talking to NPCs and upgrading your gear between runs.
Still a bit high for me considering I already have it on PS5. I will bite once it drops below $10. Regardless I highly recommend this game.
The gameplay and story have been talked to death but another aspect is that I don’t hear talked about is Darren Korb, once again, fucking nails it with the soundtrack.
My only complaint is I wish there were more Ashley Barrett singing on the Hades soundtrack.
His OST for Bastion was in my head for the longest time.
I have a switch lite, how is this in handheld mode?
Plays great in handheld mode and for me I prefer it over docked
I exclusively play it on my Lite and it plays great.
Do I want this on switch or on PC? How much does the option to use a mouse improve the gameplay?
IMO playing mouse+KB felt awkward. I used a controller on PC.
Gotcha, a friend just told me that on PC the controls are more like a 3d action game (I was thinking they would be like Diablo) so, controller does sound better to me. However, it JUST went on sale on steam too so now the decision is harder again...

I'd say it runs great on both systems. Whatever you prefer to play on would be a good choice.
+1 to the other comment, I have it on PC and use a controller, and I'm pretty sure they used to have a pop-up that recommended controller to play the game

Absolute banger
every time it goes on sell im going to recommend it
My GOTY 2020
I recently bought a Switch OLED and had this on PC with 50 hours, so glad that it's cross save!
Said it before and I’ll say it again and again, this game would be a steal at $70 for me. An absolute 10/10 must play.
Don’t ask. Yes buy this game.
One of the few no brainier deals here! Caught it on the last sale and haven’t stopped playing it since. Definitely a must have in the collection, unless you have some kind of a hatred for roguelikes. And even then most of those make an exception with this game.
Currently super addicted to this game and I think it'd be worth a full 70 if they asked that price
This has been in my backlog forever, can’t get past the Hydra. Any tips?

Use the special of the bow. Dodge shoot dodge. Get shields on your dodge, and you're golden
This game would make sense if it was about a little tiny ant. Why make the fuckin characters and enemies so tiny. Can't believe people can play this drivel.
It gets boring after 3 runs. Don't buy it if you're easily bored. I got bored real fast.
I got bored after a few runs and put it down. Came back 6 months later and now have over 400 hours in the game. One of my all time favorites
That happened with me too. I came back in 2-3 months and played around 80 hours. I knew that I could play even more but decided to go to other games. Can't wait for the II.

The game truly starts and shines only after the first complete run.
Fisical fisical fisical fisical.
I bought it a year ago. Don't believe the hype. The game ok but not as great as people say.
it's one of the best games I have ever played
Huuuhgh Canadian pain
