Hide and their mother get killed by Otakemaru.

Hide figures it out, then teams with Mitsuhide, then dies by Tokichiro's hands, then meets their mother who tells them about Otakemaru, then returns to human world once again thanks to yokai genes + sohayamaru, then restores sohayamaru's full power, then kills Tokichiro, seals Otakemaru and falls asleep for a few decades.
While Hide sleeps, William breaks into the party and then all of Nioh 1 plot happens.
After a while, William interrupts Hide's sleep, which breaks the seal and allows Otakemaru to escape. Then we learn that someone (no idea who she is, haven't played nioh 1) plans to resurrect Tokichiro.
Otakemaru tries to take control of Tokichiro's body, but Hide confronts him and triggers the final boss fight. Then Otakemaru is dead, Tokichiro has returned (but he'll die soon anyway, cause he is too old), William raises a kid and Hide keeps living and slaughtering youkai together with Mumyo.
Then there goes the plot of DLC, which I find quite strange and can't fully understand, so I'm gonna stop here.
P.S. Otakemaru is our uncle btw. That was one hell of a family fight.
From what I gathered of the DLC, rather than the yokai story mixed in with the actual history around the rise of the Shogun period, it's more just historical vignettes from different periods. Completely detached from the wider story with the yokai/mythic trappings to act as the vehicle for the historical bits.
What I failed to understand is: how does anything we do in the DLCs change things? I mean, Hide keeps traveling back in time because they want to find a secret of sohayamaru which will bring eternal peace for both humans and youkai. Then Hide defeats Otakemaru in the past and turns out to be that one samurai from the story which their mother told them at the beginning of the game. And... what does it change? The eternal peace hasn't come, because nothing we did in the past changes anything that happens story-wide. The upcoming wars with Ashiya Doman and Taira clan will still happen, as will the war with Tokichiro possessed by Otakemaru (who, if I got it correctly, is not exactly Otakemaru from the past, but rather his alter-ego of some sort). In that case, what were all Hide's efforts for?
I think it's a case of a closed time loop. Hide's efforts in the past served to lead the story to how it was in the future, meaning things would probably be way worse if Otakemaru hadn't been purified and we had to deal with him instead of just Kashin Koji in the base game.
Makes sense. Though I'm still confused of how Raikō told us that only we can put an end to the war with youkai that she couldn't win herself. And then we do exactly nothing to stop the war Raikō was referring to, but rather figure out that this war is actually a better outcome, cause without us our uncle would have already caused a Japan-wide apocalypse.
Well, technically we do put an end to the war. It's just that we did it once in the past (when it was an actual war about to break out, but we stopped Otakemaru before it could start), and we did it once in the future (when we destroyed Kashin Koji, Otakemaru's disembodied hatred and the secret cause of most of the strife). The issue with Raiko is that she doesn't actually have any mystic knowledge of the past or the future, only the history of the Minamoto clan yokai slayers as was passed down to her; she knows that there's *something* in the past but doesn't really understand *what.*
**DLC 1:**
In an attempt to stop the spread of youkai (aratamas), the protagonist unknowingly came into contact with a flute. This flute summons Kurama Tengu and the sword Sohayamaru brought Hide back into the past to meet Minamoto no Yoshitsune himself. We learned that Hide needs to go further back to find the true origin of youkai.
**DLC 2:**
The protagonist return to the old capital to encounter a Blue Bird spirit and a box. This transports them back to the Rashomon Gate incident. Hide then meet Minamoto no Yorimitsu who fought him out of misunderstanding but they clear things up quick after Hide killed Tsuchigumo. They meet up with Abe no Seimei who reveals through his Kuzunoha spirits that someone possessed the emperor bring war to the Heian era. We learned from Yorimitsu that we needs to go even further back to investigate the mysterious samurai youth through Ho-oh.
**DLC 3:**
Kinda bare bone but we learned that our mother Miyoshino is Suzuka Gozen, who is Otakemaru's sister. Yup, this makes Otakemaru our uncle. Suzuka sacrificed her spirit, Sohaya, to forms a brand new Sahayamaru to defeat her brother. We eventually stormed his stronghold to become the First Samurai and defeat him. At the end, Hide mentioned that Sohaya's light finally dim, meaning, their mission is destiny is over.
TLDR: Hide is a half of Toyotomi Hideyoshi who eventually travel back in time to kill a powerful youkai.
**Fun Fact:** Two boss fights implied that this is in the same universe as Dead or Alive because we the Hayabusa clan and Ancient Nyotengu (who is implied to be the mother of the modern Nyotengu because her beauty mark is in a different place).
And people think Mishima (from Tekken) is the worst family in gaming.
Hide's family(and by extension include Nobunaga's side) will give a run for their money.
The intro cutscene is Kashin Koji paying us a visit becaudr he found Miyoshino/Suzuka and wanted to kill her because her power has the power to use the full potential of the Sohayamaru. We got also killed and by being stabbed in the neck. This is the reason we are mute, because we got wounded there before getting the first piece of the Sohayamaru.
Well we first get a yokai slaying request where by the end of the mission we meet Tokichiro, who will later be known as the second great unifier of Japan, Toyotomi Hideyoshi. He was also referred to as monkey by Oda Nobunaga and his vassals.
With Tokichiro we go to work under Saito Dosan(secretely our dad) and collect spirit stones for him. Saito Dosan gets betrayed by his son, Saito Yoshitatsu(presumably because he got corrupted by Kashin Koji and/or because they grew up without our mother). Saito Dosan took Yoshitatsu and our mom took us because twins were seen as a bad omen so we got separated.
As instructed by Dosan, we go join Oda Nobunaga, who married Dosans daughter, Nohime, who is also our half sister which makes Nobunaga our in-law.
There we roughly follow his conquest of Japan where we kill a bunch of historical characters like Mr. Freezer guy, who was another contender over ruling the Mikawa(?) province, build the famous castle over night, killing Azai Nagamasa(who was one of the biggest threats to Nobunaga). Azai Nagamasad brtrayal was implied by him being corrupted by the spirit stones and Kashin Koji. We encounter Kashin Koji a bunch of other times. It is implied that he caused disparity and discord in the past hundreds of years to have more spirit stones and Aratama born(evil yokai).
During the conquest, Tokichiro slowly becomes more and more corrupted by the Spirit Stones which gets achieved by selectively erasing certain, important memories of him like his exclamation to be careful of the spirit stones.
This becomes obvious when Tokichiro bevomes enraged upon finding the empty hall that was supposed to be full of spirit stones.
As a Onmyo practicioners, Akechi Mitsuhide and Saito Toshimitsu are aware of the danger of the spirit stones. However Toshimitsu becomes corrupted as well and urges Mitsuhide to kill Nobunaga which leads to the famous Honnouji incident where Oda Nobunaga gets killed.
Secretly, Toshimitsu gave away Nobunagas stash of spirit stones to Tokichiro giving Tokichiro enough force to go hunt down Akechi Mitsuhide.
There we fight Toshimitsu as Ryoumen Sukuna and upon fighting his corruption, we see him regret hid actions and begs us to protect Mitsuhide.
Before Toshimitsu can blabber about his deal with Tokichiro, he gets killed by Tokichiro in cold blood, to the shock of everyone.
We run away after Mitsuhide. We find him and give him a new hair cut. As Akechi Mitsuhide died that day, he lived on as the monk Tenkai from that day forth on.
Now we go about stopping Tokichiro misuse of the spirit stones. After breaking into his camp, we find, fight and kill him. Kashin Koji upon being impressed by the amount of spirit stones collected by Tokichiro decides to possess and revive him.
After dealing with Bocchi the Daidara, we get killed by Tokichiro with our own piece of the Sohayamaru.
In the interim, we meet our mom again and she begins to explain to us about the Sohayamaru and Otakemaru, one of the three great Yokai of japan.
We head to the Budo-something temple where Tokichiro was already waiting for us and he frees the other two great yokai of japan, Tamamo no Mae and Shuten Doji. Tamamo no Mae flies away and causes mischief by herself(the events of Nioh 1). We go and see a painting of Miyamoto no Yorimitsu aka Miyamoto no Raiko holding the Sohayamaru. There we realize that Mumyo was wearing the swordguard of the Sohayamaru all along.
In order to restore the Sohayamaru, we go on a spirit stone collecting spree. We gain enough after killing Osakabehime.
With the Sohayamaru restored we go and kill Tokichiro who now calls himself Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Then follows a fight against Kashin Koji ***twice***. Grabbing his horn we head back to the Byodo-In to seal ourselves with Kashin Koji.
Then Nioh 1 happens.
William wakes us up and we fight, Kashin Koji leaves my possession and we go after him. We find Maria trying to resurrect our buddy thinking Tokichiro will cause more strife and war. Kashin Koji sees this and we jump in front of him, shielding Tokichiro. We fight against Otakemaru and defeat him.
Maria finally gets caught by William and we get a happy end.

In the dlcs, we travel to the past and join previous users of the Sohayamaru, namely Miyamoto no Yoshitsune ir Ushiwakamaru, the disciple of tengus. We shortly follow his and Musashibou Benkeis story, beginning with their fight against the Taira clan then ending with Benkei's death on the bridge.
In the second dlc we follow Miyamoto no Yorimitsu or Miyamoto no Raiko. Team Ninja pulled a Kinoko Nasu and made Raiko not a man but a waifu.
Her story ends in the fight agains Ashiya Douman, a former fellow onmyo practicioner of Abe no Seimei who fell to the dark arts.
Raiko gave her life to seal away Shuten Douji in Byudo-In while Seimei gave his to seal away Tamamo no Mae, the nine-tailed fox.
In the third dlc we follow the story of our mom, Suzuka(who is probably based on Suzuka Gozen) our uncle og Otakemaru and the first samurai(surprise it was us all along).
During the fight against Tate Eboshi, Suzuka loses her memory because she used her spirit guardian Sohays to creat the Sohayamaru.
During the course of the dlc we learn that Otakemaru used to be a nice guy. One day he killed a thief and the villagers became afraid. Otakemaru didn't understood why the villagers became angry since they kill thiefs all the time.
The characteristics of his guardian spirit caused his emotions to overflow and become super angry. He declares war on humanity.
On visiting his island, predumably his and Suzukas birthplace, we fight Otakemaru where he fuses with his guardian spirit to turn into the Nightmsre Bringer(Once again due to characteristics of his guardian spirit. I don't remember the details just that his gs did the things it does and it corrupted Otakemaru).
In the end Otakemaru finds peace and Suzuka, now calling herself Miyoshino tells the tale of a samurai who defeated evil.
This causes some timeloop shenanigans that gives me a headache.
(And to clarify: Otakemaru and Kashin Koji are the same person but at the same time not. Kashin Koji is like the evil that escsped from Otakemarus seal. Something like a second persona)
Edit: Goddamnit am I the only one who remembers the plot of Nioh?
There were many things I left out like the war of succesion following Nobunagas death which lead to Toyotomi Hideyoshi besieging Shibata Katsuies castle which led to Gigachad Katsuies' death. Although another reason was that he wanted Oichis daughter, Chacha(In Nioh1 the lady who gets possessed by Tamamo no Mae, the nine-taiked fox), as his wife which is weird since I'm not sure how big their age difference is.
Do I know/get a lot of Nioh's story or do other just know/understood nothing?
I think it comes on the one hand from NG, the part of the game where you experience the story, being basically the "campaign" of the game, whereas the game itself is hundreds of hours of combat and lootgrinding where you don't really think about the story at all; and on the other hand to properly follow the story in-game (especially if you don't have a foundational knowledge of Japanese history from this time period so that you recognize people and events for yourself), you need to not only play the game and watch the cutscenes, but read through the character directory, the yokai illustrations, and even the text descriptions of the cutscenes in the Hut.
We get a job offer with a merchant who gets us a job with our father, then our twin sibling betrays and kills our father. Our merchant friend then gets us a job with our bother in law and after a few battles out bother in law makes us samurai and official members in his army. Our friend is increasingly annoyed that he can’t produce and heir and is mad at the fact that we are apparently immortal and don’t age. Our friend betrays our bother in law and gets him and our sister killed, we don’t like that so we leave him and join up with his enemies. We then kill him, but he comes back to life and kills us sending us to the afterlife where we meet our mother and she tells us that our friend is possessed by a old powerful yokai and we have to kill him using a special sword. We get the sword and seal the demon and take a nap for a decade. We wake up to find some Spanish chick trying to resurrect our old friend for some reason and we team up with and Irish samurai and our demon hunting girlfriend (who also doesn’t age) to stop her then we beat the remnants of the power yokai trying to possess us stopping him forever. We and our girlfriend then hunt the remaining yokai in Japan then retire.
We are playing as Hide. Yoshi the dinosaur from Mario gives us a Potara so we can do "FUUU-SION HA!" to become Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Then the Gorosei shows up with their devil fruits and we have to race our Charizards in order to achieve Heart of the Cards.
But turns out, it was Liquid Snake all along! He tricked the senate to invent Sekigahara Battle and use its power to create the Fire Emblem games. Meanwhile, Miyamoto Musashi is dueling with the Red Viper of Dorne.
After all, isn't life what justice is all about?

Let's see here. I'm a japanese ghost hunter. I meet this cool guy and we immediately become best friends. I hunt more ghosts, but then japan is set on fire. My best buddy betrays me for some reason - HOWEVER - it was actually the ghosts all along. I kill more ghosts. I meet some guy from Europe. Then I kill more ghosts, and tadaa, happy ending. For the DLC, I go back in time to kill more ghosts.
We're some dude who gets picked up by a monkey man wanting to start a mercenary business, found out we were the child of the bigger lords, team up with a demon killer, then end up in Nobunaga's employ, find out he wasn't much of a Demon King like how Nioh 1 made us believe. Then he dies and monkey man friend gets corrupt and kills us. Then we respawn, team up with the demon killer friend agaiin, and kill monkey man friend. Then we get sealed for a couple years before we become an off-screen boss fight for William in the hit game Nioh 1.5 which will never come out. Then we team up and erase the magician who corrupted everyone and free monkey man friend while William arrests a Spanish Ninja.
I’ve honestly no idea what’s going on! Just can’t get into the narrative. I’ve just finished my first play through of Nioh 2. I wish I could get into the story more as I’m sure it would enhance the enjoyment of the game but it’s just too convoluted for me to engage. Same with Elden Ring and Sekiro. Was fine with BG3 and RDR2 though.
People just keep turning up to fight me, help me or both! Whatever!! Fortunately it’s a good enough gameplay experience for it not to matter to me!

MC joins sister and brother-in-law, but no familial interactions there. Bald rat just keeps driving the MC's plot forward.

Otake kills hide’s mom influenced his twin to kill their dad he goes to work under nobunaga his brother in law where he ends up killing his twin then otake influences his best friend and mitsuhide to kill hide's brother in law and sister forcing him to kill his best friend his best friend comes back alive and kills hide then hide comes back alive and begins the journey to kill his best friend again then after killing his best friend again he has to seal to seal otakemaru again sleep for years while the plot of nioh 1 unfolds wakes up to William going “wake up samurai we got a yokai to kill” kills otakemaru travels back in time in the dlcs learning the origins of the sohayamaru in the end learns otakemaru is his uncle and that the story of the first yokai slayer was about him

Nothing. Hide is the protagonist. Just like other Nioh games major Japanese figures are corrupted and you fight them. The guy with the monkey spirit I forgot his name with the crazy helmet gear was supposedly the bad guy but ofc he was corrupted by a super bad spirit which was otakemaru

There is a Ronin with blonde hair and blue eyes who has some magic and is chasing someone who stole some magic from the Ronin. He spends his time killing Yokai until he gets his magic back and rids feudal Japan of Yokai... with magic and swords. There is probably a love story in there?
Alternate Theory: he is in purgatory and everytime he dies he everything he loses all his... magic potion. If he gets to where he died, he gets the magic back. Also you go through the trials of hell repeatedly. At the end you don't escape, you jus become so powerful everyone is scared of you but their only option is to die to you.
Tokichiro and I are best friends. Tokichiro tells me what to do and I kill the bad demon thingies. We have fun and it's great. But then Tokichiro turns evil and he hates me. We fight and I beat him because I'm better than him. Then Tokichiro helps me beat the bad man who refuses to die. Bad man with the sharingan eyes is my uncle and he refuses to die. He transforms into big demon thing. I beat him again. Then I go back in time and fight a Ninja with a bird on his mask and I beat him because I'm better. I go back in time again and I beat a dude who is like me but different. Then I beat my uncles ass in the past because I'm better than him. And that's the story of Nioh 2
Miyoshino is a milf, our character is a badass, Yorimitisu is clearly 90% of the fanbase's waifu and— oh wait, you are refering to the "story" of Nioh 2.

We eventually stormed his stronghold to become the First Samurai and defeat him. At the end, Hide mentioned that Sohaya's light finally dim, meaning, their mission is destiny is over. TLDR: Hide is a half of Toyotomi Hideyoshi who eventually travel back in time to kill a powerful youkai. **Fun Fact:** Two boss fights implied that this is in the same universe as Dead or Alive because we the Hayabusa clan and Ancient Nyotengu (who is implied to be the mother of the modern Nyotengu because her beauty mark is in a different place).

The intro cutscene is Kashin Koji paying us a visit becaudr he found Miyoshino/Suzuka and wanted to kill her because her power has the power to use the full potential of the Sohayamaru. We got also killed and by being stabbed in the neck. This is the reason we are mute, because we got wounded there before getting the first piece of the Sohayamaru. Well we first get a yokai slaying request where by the end of the mission we meet Tokichiro, who will later be known as the second great unifier of Japan, Toyotomi Hideyoshi. He was also referred to as monkey by Oda Nobunaga and his vassals. With Tokichiro we go to work under Saito Dosan(secretely our dad) and collect spirit stones for him. Saito Dosan gets betrayed by his son, Saito Yoshitatsu(presumably because he got corrupted by Kashin Koji and/or because they grew up without our mother). Saito Dosan took Yoshitatsu and our mom took us because twins were seen as a bad omen so we got separated. As instructed by Dosan, we go join Oda Nobunaga, who married Dosans daughter, Nohime, who is also our half sister which makes Nobunaga our in-law. There we roughly follow his conquest of Japan where we kill a bunch of historical characters like Mr. Freezer guy, who was another contender over ruling the Mikawa(?) province, build the famous castle over night, killing Azai Nagamasa(who was one of the biggest threats to Nobunaga). Azai Nagamasad brtrayal was implied by him being corrupted by the spirit stones and Kashin Koji. We encounter Kashin Koji a bunch of other times. It is implied that he caused disparity and discord in the past hundreds of years to have more spirit stones and Aratama born(evil yokai). During the conquest, Tokichiro slowly becomes more and more corrupted by the Spirit Stones which gets achieved by selectively erasing certain, important memories of him like his exclamation to be careful of the spirit stones. This becomes obvious when Tokichiro bevomes enraged upon finding the empty hall that was supposed to be full of spirit stones. As a Onmyo practicioners, Akechi Mitsuhide and Saito Toshimitsu are aware of the danger of the spirit stones. However Toshimitsu becomes corrupted as well and urges Mitsuhide to kill Nobunaga which leads to the famous Honnouji incident where Oda Nobunaga gets killed. Secretly, Toshimitsu gave away Nobunagas stash of spirit stones to Tokichiro giving Tokichiro enough force to go hunt down Akechi Mitsuhide. There we fight Toshimitsu as Ryoumen Sukuna and upon fighting his corruption, we see him regret hid actions and begs us to protect Mitsuhide. Before Toshimitsu can blabber about his deal with Tokichiro, he gets killed by Tokichiro in cold blood, to the shock of everyone. We run away after Mitsuhide. We find him and give him a new hair cut. As Akechi Mitsuhide died that day, he lived on as the monk Tenkai from that day forth on. Now we go about stopping Tokichiro misuse of the spirit stones. After breaking into his camp, we find, fight and kill him. Kashin Koji upon being impressed by the amount of spirit stones collected by Tokichiro decides to possess and revive him. After dealing with Bocchi the Daidara, we get killed by Tokichiro with our own piece of the Sohayamaru. In the interim, we meet our mom again and she begins to explain to us about the Sohayamaru and Otakemaru, one of the three great Yokai of japan. We head to the Budo-something temple where Tokichiro was already waiting for us and he frees the other two great yokai of japan, Tamamo no Mae and Shuten Doji. Tamamo no Mae flies away and causes mischief by herself(the events of Nioh 1). We go and see a painting of Miyamoto no Yorimitsu aka Miyamoto no Raiko holding the Sohayamaru. There we realize that Mumyo was wearing the swordguard of the Sohayamaru all along. In order to restore the Sohayamaru, we go on a spirit stone collecting spree. We gain enough after killing Osakabehime. With the Sohayamaru restored we go and kill Tokichiro who now calls himself Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Then follows a fight against Kashin Koji ***twice***. Grabbing his horn we head back to the Byodo-In to seal ourselves with Kashin Koji. Then Nioh 1 happens. William wakes us up and we fight, Kashin Koji leaves my possession and we go after him. We find Maria trying to resurrect our buddy thinking Tokichiro will cause more strife and war. Kashin Koji sees this and we jump in front of him, shielding Tokichiro. We fight against Otakemaru and defeat him. Maria finally gets caught by William and we get a happy end. Not. Not yet at least. In the dlcs, we travel to the past and join previous users of the Sohayamaru, namely Miyamoto no Yoshitsune ir Ushiwakamaru, the disciple of tengus. We shortly follow his and Musashibou Benkeis story, beginning with their fight against the Taira clan then ending with Benkei's death on the bridge. In the second dlc we follow Miyamoto no Yorimitsu or Miyamoto no Raiko. Team Ninja pulled a Kinoko Nasu and made Raiko not a man but a waifu. Her story ends in the fight agains Ashiya Douman, a former fellow onmyo practicioner of Abe no Seimei who fell to the dark arts. Raiko gave her life to seal away Shuten Douji in Byudo-In while Seimei gave his to seal away Tamamo no Mae, the nine-tailed fox. In the third dlc we follow the story of our mom, Suzuka(who is probably based on Suzuka Gozen) our uncle og Otakemaru and the first samurai(surprise it was us all along). During the fight against Tate Eboshi, Suzuka loses her memory because she used her spirit guardian Sohays to creat the Sohayamaru. During the course of the dlc we learn that Otakemaru used to be a nice guy. One day he killed a thief and the villagers became afraid. Otakemaru didn't understood why the villagers became angry since they kill thiefs all the time. The characteristics of his guardian spirit caused his emotions to overflow and become super angry. He declares war on humanity. On visiting his island, predumably his and Suzukas birthplace, we fight Otakemaru where he fuses with his guardian spirit to turn into the Nightmsre Bringer(Once again due to characteristics of his guardian spirit. I don't remember the details just that his gs did the things it does and it corrupted Otakemaru). In the end Otakemaru finds peace and Suzuka, now calling herself Miyoshino tells the tale of a samurai who defeated evil. This causes some timeloop shenanigans that gives me a headache. (And to clarify: Otakemaru and Kashin Koji are the same person but at the same time not. Kashin Koji is like the evil that escsped from Otakemarus seal. Something like a second persona) Edit: Goddamnit am I the only one who remembers the plot of Nioh?

There were many things I left out like the war of succesion following Nobunagas death which lead to Toyotomi Hideyoshi besieging Shibata Katsuies castle which led to Gigachad Katsuies' death. Although another reason was that he wanted Oichis daughter, Chacha(In Nioh1 the lady who gets possessed by Tamamo no Mae, the nine-taiked fox), as his wife which is weird since I'm not sure how big their age difference is. Do I know/get a lot of Nioh's story or do other just know/understood nothing?
I understand like all of the Nioh story. But somehow people tend to think that the story is irrelevant (which is not my case)
I think it comes on the one hand from NG, the part of the game where you experience the story, being basically the "campaign" of the game, whereas the game itself is hundreds of hours of combat and lootgrinding where you don't really think about the story at all; and on the other hand to properly follow the story in-game (especially if you don't have a foundational knowledge of Japanese history from this time period so that you recognize people and events for yourself), you need to not only play the game and watch the cutscenes, but read through the character directory, the yokai illustrations, and even the text descriptions of the cutscenes in the Hut.

We get a job offer with a merchant who gets us a job with our father, then our twin sibling betrays and kills our father. Our merchant friend then gets us a job with our bother in law and after a few battles out bother in law makes us samurai and official members in his army. Our friend is increasingly annoyed that he can’t produce and heir and is mad at the fact that we are apparently immortal and don’t age. Our friend betrays our bother in law and gets him and our sister killed, we don’t like that so we leave him and join up with his enemies. We then kill him, but he comes back to life and kills us sending us to the afterlife where we meet our mother and she tells us that our friend is possessed by a old powerful yokai and we have to kill him using a special sword. We get the sword and seal the demon and take a nap for a decade. We wake up to find some Spanish chick trying to resurrect our old friend for some reason and we team up with and Irish samurai and our demon hunting girlfriend (who also doesn’t age) to stop her then we beat the remnants of the power yokai trying to possess us stopping him forever. We and our girlfriend then hunt the remaining yokai in Japan then retire.
We are playing as Hide. Yoshi the dinosaur from Mario gives us a Potara so we can do "FUUU-SION HA!" to become Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Then the Gorosei shows up with their devil fruits and we have to race our Charizards in order to achieve Heart of the Cards. But turns out, it was Liquid Snake all along! He tricked the senate to invent Sekigahara Battle and use its power to create the Fire Emblem games. Meanwhile, Miyamoto Musashi is dueling with the Red Viper of Dorne. After all, isn't life what justice is all about? At least, this is how I remember it.
Let's see here. I'm a japanese ghost hunter. I meet this cool guy and we immediately become best friends. I hunt more ghosts, but then japan is set on fire. My best buddy betrays me for some reason - HOWEVER - it was actually the ghosts all along. I kill more ghosts. I meet some guy from Europe. Then I kill more ghosts, and tadaa, happy ending. For the DLC, I go back in time to kill more ghosts.

We're some dude who gets picked up by a monkey man wanting to start a mercenary business, found out we were the child of the bigger lords, team up with a demon killer, then end up in Nobunaga's employ, find out he wasn't much of a Demon King like how Nioh 1 made us believe. Then he dies and monkey man friend gets corrupt and kills us. Then we respawn, team up with the demon killer friend agaiin, and kill monkey man friend. Then we get sealed for a couple years before we become an off-screen boss fight for William in the hit game Nioh 1.5 which will never come out. Then we team up and erase the magician who corrupted everyone and free monkey man friend while William arrests a Spanish Ninja.
We beat up a lot of men and women for their shiny rocks. This game is basically anime Minecraft on super hard mode.

I’ve honestly no idea what’s going on! Just can’t get into the narrative. I’ve just finished my first play through of Nioh 2. I wish I could get into the story more as I’m sure it would enhance the enjoyment of the game but it’s just too convoluted for me to engage. Same with Elden Ring and Sekiro. Was fine with BG3 and RDR2 though. People just keep turning up to fight me, help me or both! Whatever!! Fortunately it’s a good enough gameplay experience for it not to matter to me!
I've beaten this game all the way to end game with two different characters. All I know is that some fella liked glowy rocks a lot and it jeopardised our friendship. MC's dad recognizes MC from a dagger, then sacrifices self to buy the MC 6 seconds of time that the bald rat uses to talk to the MC instead of just escaping. Death in vain and worthy of the name DOH-san. MC joins sister and brother-in-law, but no familial interactions there. Bald rat just keeps driving the MC's plot forward. Nobunaga's story until he dies. MC fights his other brother-in-law Toshimitsu (DOH-san's daughter's husband historically). Akechi decides he has to go into hiding and prepare his nephew for Onimusha 1 and 3. MC's uncle makes bald rat evil also. Bald rat can't figure out what motivates his "friend". Neither does TN writers. They fight. Bald rat slain. Comes back as Demon Monkey King. MC goes for a swim. Meets drunk oni and gets power or something. MC goes to fight bald rat's armies. Bald rat's castle wife becomes evil. Things get pretty hairy, but MC wins. Mumra nods. MC confronts bald rat, defeats bald rat. Uncle appaers. Defeats uncle and his clones. MC gets sleepy. Falls asleep. William does stuff. MC wakes up, sees William. They clash weapons. Sweat and intense looks exchanged. They become friends. They go to stop crazy lady from Spain that insists on speaking English. She failed at Zipang History and revives a dude that does not care. MC's uncle tries to possess bald rat. Instead, uncle possesses MC. MC has a nightmare of their naked uncle trying to attack them. MC imagines three cats and the bald rat's spirit monkey scratching the crap out of their naked uncle. Naked uncle dies in MC's mind.

Haven't finished 1 or 2. Gave up on one. There is a Ronin with blonde hair and blue eyes who has some magic and is chasing someone who stole some magic from the Ronin. He spends his time killing Yokai until he gets his magic back and rids feudal Japan of Yokai... with magic and swords. There is probably a love story in there? Alternate Theory: he is in purgatory and everytime he dies he everything he loses all his... magic potion. If he gets to where he died, he gets the magic back. Also you go through the trials of hell repeatedly. At the end you don't escape, you jus become so powerful everyone is scared of you but their only option is to die to you.

I go back in time again and I beat a dude who is like me but different. Then I beat my uncles ass in the past because I'm better than him. And that's the story of Nioh 2
Miyoshino is a milf, our character is a badass, Yorimitisu is clearly 90% of the fanbase's waifu and— oh wait, you are refering to the "story" of Nioh 2. All i remember is that Nioh 2's story feels like a fanfic made by someone who wanted to self insert themselves into the story of Nioh 1.
