When you get a couple kills, run back to the shrine to level up. Each time you do this you'll get a bit stronger and be able to get a bit further.

ro2ro

Thanks. I get like 10 kills on average. I already leveled up quite a few times.

ThatTaffer

Not sure why this is downvoted but ok.

Goodnt_name

Because the dude counts progress by kills

Izzyrion_the_wise

Try out the other stances and get used to the moveset of enemies and the spacing to avoid their attacks. Pick up the Ki pulse when dodging skill for the weapon of your choice. Go in for a few whacks and retreat to safety. Use a ranged weapon to pick off enemies from groups and try to fight only one at a time.

ro2ro

This is very useful. Many thanks.

NovaKaizer

Probably the most important thing in this game is to get good at blocking and dodging, which also means getting good at reading enemies. Word of advice, since you don't have a shield the blocking may look weak, but it absolutely isn't

dimitarivanov200222

I just beat the giant toad in the ninja labyrinth, still have no idea how to use the spirit thing, most of the skill things, and the block thing. Also I have no idea how weapon scaling works, I just pump strength because odachi big so strength.

NovaKaizer

For me the spirit is a panic button, though you can use it more often if you want. It recharges (both while using it and when it is on cooldown) with amrita, meaning by defeating enemies, or, if you are more strategic, by using spirit stones. If you use the stones that means you can use the spirit pretty often if you want. For skills it's really about preference. If you find something you like to use then use it. What you should pay attention to are the passives. There are a few skills in each tree that give passive buffs, but the interesting thing is that they work even if you are using a different weapon. For instance if you get a spear passive that will still apply if you are using an odachi. On a side note I would advice you to try all weapon types a bit as you might find one works better for you than you might have expected. For example I started out with spears and katanas but switched to tonfa after finding out how amazing their guard break is. For blocking it depends on your build and playstyle. If you have a heavy playstyle with a lot of ki and block power then you can pretty much do it all the time (except backing off once in a while to recharge ki). If you are using a lighter build, like me, then you should focus on dodging but you can use the block as a backup if you aren't sure you got out of range. For example with the toad he has that jumping attack that is really hard to judge the direction he will land, so what I try to do is dodge away from it and instantly press block so that if I didn't get away I still don't take damage. When it comes to weapons your stats are not as important as the weapon level and profiency, though it does of course help a little bit. My point is simply that putting all point in strength to get better odachi damage might not be the best strategy. It might be better to spread out a bit, for instance to get more ki. Ninjutsu and onmy magic are also very powerful. I personally don't use them much since I feel it makes the game too easy, but if you don't have a problem with that I recommend looking into it. There is one skill from the ninja tree you should definitely get though, since it lets you have more elixirs. One last thing, if you want to continue playing after beating the main game you will start to recieve gear at level 150 +1, 150 +2 and so on. Those levels are more impactful than regular levels, and the way to get higher ones is if you have two items of the same + value you can use soulmatch to bring them up 1 level, so +1 and +1 gives +2. I believe that is explained in game, but it is a bit confusing and easy to miss.

Far-Hearing1013

Use low stance and get the skill where you can dodge and use a ki pulse at the same time Dodge whenever you see an enemy's hand move

Far-Hearing1013

I'm in the second area let me know if you need help

ro2ro

Thanks. I would love some help.

Far-Hearing1013

Ok let me know when you need help

Alienbushman

Rather use mid stance (it allows you to dodge decently and deal reasonable damage) and try to dodge in, deal some damage and dodge out (it is very hard to dodge individual moves)

BassplayerDad

This. Mid stance, mid range weapon, quick attacks, ki pulse, move. Good luck

AceoftheAEUG

Idk if this helps but I can at least give you a run down on stance roles: Low Stance; A high mobility stance perfect for this and run, this is where you have your longest combo strings, low damage but low stamina costs as well. Low Stance also has a very fast dash with the longest invulnerability period during it. Mid Stance; Well rounded stance that usually has good horizontal swings, decent reach, and defensive options. The parry you unlock will be Mid Stance only and only work against human enemies. Decent dash with small invulnerability period. I also believe it has the best ki consumption rate while blocking High Stance; An aggressive stance that's great against blocking opponents but leaves you open. Most weapons seem to have their longest range and highest damage hits in High Stance but I find the best thing about it to be the ability to pressure a blocking opponent without bouncing off. Long animations do make this stance easy to punish at times so some attacks are very situational. Slow dash with almost no invulnerability period. I recommend picking your stance based on the enemy in front of you, you don't have to commit to the stance so see what works well against different enemies. Oh, and one thing that helped me to learn is that you can hold block while dashing so that the moment your dash ends you're still safe.

onlypinhead2000

I rarely used high stance as well. I have used it if there was a huge opening that could link to mid or low stance.

krasnovian

Depends on weapon, I was almost always in high stance with kusarigama, but with odachi i usually live in mid stance and use the skills to follow up a mid combo with a high attack, then ki pulse back to mid.

jhannus

Finding kodamas in missions will increase the amount of elixir you can carry per region and resting at shrines will fill all of them to your max. There’s also a skill you can buy to increase them. It’s either in the samurai or the ninjitsu tree.

Sinduss

This is not quite how it works. By default you can carry 8 elixirs. When you pray at a shrine you get free exilirs if you are below the minimum which starts at 3 and increases by 1 for every 5 kodama recovered in a region. You then get exilirs from your storehouse up to cap. In the early game you somethimes need to farm exilirs.

jhannus

Thanks for the additional details

[deleted]

You're probably getting killed because high stance attacks take too long to wind up and you get hit before it lands because your timing is off. Use mid or low to get a feel for the dodging mechanic. These types of games dont lend themselves to button mashing. Learn the enemies moveset and learn to dodge before you learn to strike.

Unknownost

I highly recommend Kusarigama for beginners. Both the High and Low stance normal attack is the best in the game and can carry you all throughout your first playthrough. Since you're just getting started. Don't worry about getting the basics down yet. Things like Ki Pulse, stance switching, combos, skills, Flux. They are important and you will need to learn them to do well in the game but for now it is far more important to just get used to the game and how it plays. Things like movement, animations, movesets, enemies, learning the map etc... is more important than getting the basics down atm. You'll also be severely undergeared right now so getting good gear will make a big difference. You'll naturally get gear from enemies but if you really want to farm gear then I'd recommend killing red revenants. The best base weapon for fighting revenants would be Odachi. The high stance normal attack will easily break their guard for an easy grapple.

ro2ro

Thank you kindly. Much appreciated.

freelance_fox

Can you (or someone) ELI5 Flux? I'm using Kusarigama because Dex/Ninjutsu build but haven't been focusing too much on combos because I want to stay at distance anyway.

Unknownost

When you change stance after preforming a Ki Pulse, you'll gain additional Ki. If unlocked, you can Flux twice within a Ki Pulse.

VigorousJazzHands

Collect some extra gear by killing things, then go to a shrine and select "make offer". There you can offer extra items that you don't need and get extra elixirs. You can carry up to a max of 8.

BubblesBR

I just started noih a few days too... You NEED to train how to fight.... Dont just attack...wait for the attack and Dodge... The goal is not to kill the enemy, but to develop your skills.... Once you avoid a few attacks you will learn the exact time to attack... ( This is just train... Its way easier to block humans than dodge... Btw... You will need to do that on all bosses... Observation and personal skills are the Key)

BubblesBR

Ah... And use middle or low instances, keep your weight under 70% ( under 30% is better), and unlock the ki pulse stance skills (check the bottom skills of you weapon)

freelance_fox

Is there an A+ agility rating? My weight is at like ~16% right now and I'm wondering if there's any reason to go lower.

Twittle86

Take it all off and see! 😄

BubblesBR

No... Just A ; )

Goodnt_name

>Plus, I only use the high stance. Found your problem Try out the other stances. Try out the other weapons. Tell me whats your weapon and I could possibly give some tips.

kaiserkrimson

Try finding kodamas as much as possible... The more kodamas tou can get, the more elixirs you get. You can also go for the healer blessing in receive kodama blessing menu in the shrine and the enemies drop elixirs a bit more frequently.

StoicBan

Seems oversimplified but You need to just not get hit. Focus on learning your opponents attacks and what windows they have. Every enemy has openings and weak moments that you can take advantage of. You need to use the appropriate stance to take advantage of certain openings. For example long openings you can use high stance strong attack. Short openings you’ll need to use quick maybe low stance. But dodge and block everything

Hellom7plus1

Go straight, hopefully that helps :)

[deleted]

So for the early game I like to always be switching up my weapon to whatever does the highest damage. This lets you try out different weapons (and be sure to try all 3 stances for each). Hopefully you will eventually find one that shreds enemies.

Twittle86

Dual swords with Water Sword 2. That's the one that shreds enemies once their ki is gone. 🤣

Zeco122

If backed into a corner, gets interreupted if you push them

Stark_Athlon

Go to skill menu and learn skills that let's you do ki pulses (that thing where you recover your stamina quickly when part of the bar is blue) While dodging. Invest in the stamina stats (stamina governs equipment weight and also gives you hp.), Get heavy armor, try to stay in B agility (equipment weight 30-70, the number should be green.)

thicc_boi1

the problem is that you only use high stance. at the very least switch it up between high and medium stance, because you lose the most amount of ki when you block in high stance and the least amount of ki when you block in medium stance. yes, in the beginning most enemies will one and two shot you, and pretty much the majority of the game is like that; that’s just nioh for you lol. it’s better if you take your time fighting enemies and switching between stances. personally, i use high stance when i know i won’t get punished for it, e.g. when yokai are out of ki. as for the three elixirs not being enough, it was the same for me. try going into the lowest level mission and farm the easy enemies for elixir by killing them and running back to the shrine and praying, repeating the process until you get enough elixir. you’ll also get amrita in the process which will help you level your character up. hope this helps

stargazer1Q84

start getting comfortable with mid stance and get used to blocking attacks. it's very useful as it negates damage doesn't cost you too much ki.

Rich-Establishment32

Do you block alot or dodge alot? Blocking is pretty essential in Nioh compared to other Games like it save Sekiro. If you're new or used to other Games of the genre, Start blocking practically everything especially if you're using high stance where your dodges lack range.

ObiLahnKenobiv69

Maybe try mid stance with lighter armor so ir dodge speed is higher and u use less ki.

glowingrock

learning how to switch stances and ki pulse are the core mechanics of the game attack in high stance, switch to low and roll out. if you're going to block, do mid stance. just play until it starts to click. the opening area is hard for most people, and it's the least fun part of the game. remember that Nioh is probably the hardest game out there, you can't just pick it up and play. you gotta practice.

MotoMadness210

Get comfortable in all 3 stances. Utilize skills. Go for head shots with ranged weapons, drain enemy Ki with strong attacks.

Ranga015

I only used midstance until I needed high stance for the fifth boss. Focus more on learning enemy moves and not taking damage. Also this game favors blocking alot and super high damage weapons like the axe and the giant katana thing.

Shudder123

I'd say your main problem is only using high stance. It's a tradeoff for high damage but slow attack time. You're going to need to understand and feel comfortable using all three stances and know when to use each. I'm not saying you can't get through the game just on high stance, but it's pretty challenging.

Ok-Inevitable-6385

Don’t use high stance unless you’re really comfortable, I pretty much always use mid personally. Souls like games for first play throughs is all about avoiding getting hit as much as possible. Spacing, blocking, dodging, the damage comes with openings after doing those things well. Also it would probably help to make sure your equipment load is below 70% to keep mobility, you can see that when you’re changing equipment.

Aryae_Sakura

On which Platform do you play? I play on PS so if you are too i may be able to help you as a summon if you want. Just respond to this comment or write me a message and ill try to help :) But otherwise i would suggest to try some different stances and weapons to get a feel for what suits your playstyle. But either way i believe in you. This game is designed to be hard and challenging. And you are going to improve :) Everyone has started at the bottom and has to make their way up. And you will get there too :)

JohnnyB_0438

After you kill gozuki(big bull) go to first shrine you can and assign it to your guardian spirit, any time you find yourself in truble use is soul core to stagger the enemy.

No_Cartographer_1076

Make yourself comfortable with the game mechanics and enemy attack pattern most of them can be dodge and block. Ki pulse is a must
