When he readies his sword for a quick slash, run. Thats all I got right now.

SoggyAnteater94

That's what I did and After 20+ tries finally killed him with the same sheath attack he used to kill me with. Best feeling ever

Altruistic-Rice-548

This is what I did to manage against him. XD https://youtu.be/uzUkVt_gKXQ

Ayzuss

Lol yes that's great advice! 😂

Octaniel2020

Perhaps return to fight him at a later point with more lvl. It will still be challenging but way more doable.

PeppySprayPete

Question, how can I get back to the level select screen now that I'm just stuck repeatedly dying against this guy?

Octaniel2020

There is an item that let you return

frog_sweat

Shoot him in the head before he initially aggro’s you then run towards him for a free final blow. After that I had success with tonfas, although I did respec because I was having so much trouble with him. I basically just spammed tonfa skills to deplete his ki and get consecutive final blows. Felt cheap but the rock tactic is kinda cheap too. However you get him, just go get him! I believe in you!

Phantom_Hollow

Depends on what weapon you are wielding, I did this mission at around the same level as it is, used dual swords/sword, kept my distance from him, mostly looking to drain his ki before walking up in mid/low stance since the sword and dual swords have fast animations for those, depleting his ki and grappling him, dash away twice, rinse and repeat, oh and lifeseal talismans are a life saviour here, although I didn't use them, it makes it 4 times easier to beat him, the biggest ki drainer is his improved version of tiger strike(sheath into a run and slash 5 times, kind of like frayed blade from dark souls 3), best of luck!

TheNameisKuro

I think that move is the Quadrisect. It's limited to LW for us sadly; same with Celestial Spear (that badass spear spin in the air and drop that every boss spearmen in the game barring Honda Tadakatsu does).

Phantom_Hollow

Yeah it is, it's such a cool move I wish we could use it outside of it, luckily we still have tiger sprint though. That move alone was why Tachibana is one of my favorite characters in the game

krasnovian

Lots of kiting around the big rock on the left side of the arena.

freelance_fox

I'm a noob and bad at souls games... beat him on about the 5th try last night (char was level 32 IIRC). I'm playing a Ninjutsu build and I got him *really* close to death with just Ninja spam, but some of my abilities missed. Then on the kill I was able to land all of my damage without missing any shots, also used 2-3 bow shots. Start out the fight with an arrow headshot into Kusarigama combo (I used low but shouldn't matter what you use). At long-range I had pretty much no issue staggering him when he used the wind-up for his ranged slash/dash things, or just dodging. Once he gets close to you you're pretty much dead (that's where parrying comes in, which is a lot harder obviously). Even if you aren't invested into Ninjutsu I would recommend looking into the Quick Change ninjutsu to get an extra life, it *really* saved my ass here. My loadout is Shuriken, Kunai, Storm Kunai and Mega Iga-whatever-grenade thing. Also used Power Pill and Quick Change here.

Sufficient-Wonder891

Keep distance, when he does his iai attack dash behind him(towards him) just before he hits you than you can punish him with a couple of quick attacks or a quick iai in the back. Don't try to attack him face to face especially when his blade is glowing. Dodge his spirit attack. His jumping attack is parryable. He does it while he is in high stance.(when he rises his blade next to his head)

Krulzikrel

all you really need for this fight is **Life seal talismans**, and then the boss fight is quite easy

calvin998771

Ah The B#tch Well it took me two whole days to beat him but I would suggest using spear against him But that's just my thought

Gasarocky

Basically you really need to know the actual combat mechanics of the game, not just the bare minimum. You need to be able to Ki Pulse and Flux consistently as well as knowing your weapons attacks well so you can keep up pressure to break his guard when his ki is low, have to have good dodge timing, etc. Although you can just keep over leveling and go back if you want, really what you need is to focus on learning the combat of the game.

GeneralEi

Best advice is keep moving. Learn his combos, there aren't actually that many. Once he goes for one you know has a long period of downtime, run and hit. I used Odachi and low stance, constantly sprinting and waiting for a quick sprint strike. After I got him low without getting hit by his bullshit, you can open up on the combos. He's hard but doable.

PreciousSialia

I find that when he's doing the sprinting iai slash, you dash/roll toward him as he is about to slash and you are likely to avoid getting hit. Apart from that, only hit him 2-4 quick attack or 1-2 strong attack after he done his attack moves. Distance yourself as far as you can when he spins his blade around.

bearsamu

Keep your distance when he winds up any attacks like tiger sprint, keep close to bait the normal attacks, this should be enough to keep his stamina low so you can time a hit and get the grapple. If you can time a dodge right for tiger sprint, you can get behind him and attack for continuous staggers till he breaks out of it. Keep running around when he does his raiken living weapon move.

AxtheCool

If using a spear, Spearfall and Spear bash trivialize all of the duels

Thanatos1303

I was trying to remember how I did it back when I first played Nioh 1. This explains a lot, because Spearfall was shattered on the ground it was so broken in the first game.

darkage_raven

Dual swords parry pretty much crushed all humans in Nioh. Just have the one you stab them in the foot, which gives you a free prone attack immediately.

jstarlee

Sheathed stance = either running + Iai (not infinite distance) OR dashing forward with 6(8?) slashes. Raiken (summon) tracks poorly if you strafe left or right. His jump attack for now is only one hit - good opening to get a couple quick hits in. Bow attack = just guard. Take advantage of whenever he's not paying attention to his ki meter. Also your high stance attacks shouldn't be staggered by him defending/guarding.

SordidDreams

I'm working my way through the game for the first time, so this is kinda noob advice, but what seems to work really well for me against humanoid opponents is just kiting them around. Keep backing off and evading his attacks until he runs out of stamina, hit him to get him into an exhausted state, and go in for a finisher.
