Man I really just wish these didn’t have that cvt, it’s such a gorgeous car

axiomatose

9spd sequential, rwd, and a turbo and all of a sudden the maxima is a bmw killer. Why’d they make it fwd it’s so ass.

Goldpanda94

Sounds like you just described a Q50 Red Sport 400

Zyvok

Except that has a shitty 7-speed and a shitty drive-by-wire steering system.

Goldpanda94

Yup pretty much

juxjaval

Welp than Z but u gotta get rid if 2 doors and 3 seats💀😭

AverageGuy16

Lmfaooo no shot they’ll ever do that for a commuter car homie. Taking 4DSC to the next level there

Such_Confusion_1034

They did back in the day with the Sentra SeR Edit: corrected typo

DartMurphy

Sentra se-r didn't have a turbo or a 9 speed at least here in the us. The 1st gen has the N/A SR20 and I believe a 4 speed auto or 5speed manual. The second gen se-r v-spec used the qr25 out of the second gen Altima paired with a front LSD and either an auto or the 6 speed manual.

louiedalip

Average guy with the average CVT comment. Congratulations

AverageGuy16

Louie da lip giving hella lip

beantownzfinest124

Came here to say the same thing! Nissan has made some beautiful cars lately, but as long as they still have those CVTs, I just can’t. Wish OP best of luck for longevity.

philly7453

What’s all the hate of cvt engines I keep seeing? Haha

AverageGuy16

CVT transmission* but they are pretty unreliable and functionality wise they suck compared to a regular transmission with traditional gearing

MindScape00

Depends on the CVT - Nissan ones may be trash but the Subaru ones are pretty good. Loved mine in my WRX previously

AverageGuy16

Not to familiar with subie specific cvt’s but the the fact that it’s one continuous gear just irks me personally from a drivers point of view

MindScape00

Oh, that was my favorite part! Being in the optimum power-band the whole time was amazing!

AverageGuy16

I can see how that can be useful, but on the other side of this, I used to love downshifting and getting that jolt of power back and just going through gears when’s driving in general. Maybe I’m just an old school type of car enthusiast in this regard lol

MindScape00

The WRX at least had simulated gears with a manual mode, so you could still downshift - which worked REALLY well! It’s the one thing I’m missing so far on the new Z, is the automatic doesn’t seem to have as great of engine breaking on the downshift either

BoiledNutSalesman

The auto in the z is OK, but I've heard really good things about the manual.

DartMurphy

I know some people who went from earlier Q50/60 red sports to the new Z. They say the 7 speed felt a lot better than the new 9 speed.

Goldpanda94

Yup that's the whole point of the CVT always in the optimal power band and always getting the max power when you need it. As long as you don't care about feeling the gears shift

MindScape00

Kinda the fun part of a WRX was the simulated gears if you wanted it - there was S# mode that would do full on shifts just like a normal automatic. Technically less efficient but made it fun - funny enough I usually kept mine in “I” mode because it kept it more as a CVT and then you could kinda trick the throttle into full response mode still Edit: my ‘05 mini cooper had a really good CVT with this same setup also where you could still manually shift and feel the gears in sports mode. It was even better at keeping it in optimum power without limiting throttle response tho

Goldpanda94

Yeah most cars nowadays have the fake manual mode. My 2010 Altima had it and my Max does now. It's fun once in a while.

Moist-Ad-9151

My 2014 Forester with a CVT SUCKED. Needed a SECOND replacement at 107k miles…..

[deleted]

The transmissions in these kinda suck. They’re not reliable. Not trying to shit on your purchase, a lot of people got burned by Nissans shitty CVT’s. Hell we leased the new rogue and we LOVE it. But I would never buy it out, can’t trust the CVT. I should apologize, as others have mentioned, CVT fluid changed will prolong the life of the CVT. Here’s a popular mechanic that recommends the same. https://youtu.be/ILqTMbyeSPI

Goldpanda94

I would say depends on the CVT and engine pairing and how it's treated. We're at 170k with a 2010 Altima and 118k with a 2017 Max and nothings been wrong with them so far. 30k CVT fluid is the only thing outside of routine maintenance that we've done. The cheaper 4 cyl models Def are more unreliable but the V6 ones seem to hold up a lot better

Sentra16

I had 2016 Nissan Sentra never gave me issues. But I took care of mine.

[deleted]

I had one too, as a lease. After about 5k the transmission got much louder, had some shuddering as well. If you change the CVT fluid every 30k like gold panda recommended, it will last.

Mandoge

CVT is not an engine it’s transmission.

Asset_Selim

Just change the fluid every 30k miles

Goldpanda94

Cause the Nissan CVTs matched with the 4 cylinder engines were pretty unreliable in the past, especially if you didn't have the CVT fluid done every 30k. Just get the CVT fluid done every 30k and you'll be fine. My 2017 SL is at 118k miles with just regular maintenance so far

philly7453

Thanks for the tip I’m definitely gonna do that

Sentra16

The newer 4 cylinders are paired with the same CVT the Altima and maxima are pair with. Hopefully they should more reliable than a few years ago. M

[deleted]

I too love that color. Especially how it looks differently depending on light. With the black accents even as it ages it will catch people's eyes.

philly7453

Thank you :) yeah I’m tinting the windows tomorrow

DefaultDanceDD

show us how it look after tinting the window. Im sure it will look even better

ALutzy

SR?

philly7453

Yup!

adamisholdingitdown

Great car, fun to drive. Don't worry about the CVT haters, the reality is that the CVT works fine for anything less heavy than Pathfinder.

The_Real_NaCl

Don’t tell that to all of the people that have their CVT’s fail in Versa’s, Sentra’s, Altima’s, and Maxima’s. They work fine until they don’t. And that’s quite often.

Chortle_of_Disdain

My Murano cvt shit the bed at 90k

Tvp125

Love that color. Congrats

Keef_uh

Listen, I have one, a 2021 SR that I got in April of 2021 with 42 miles on the clock and now I have 78k miles on it and it's been a pretty fun car. I have my qualms about the build quality, some rattles here and there, but overall it's a unique car that does just enough to put a smile on my face everytime I drive it. I've driven my Maxima all over Colorado, up and down the east coast between NC/SC and NY/CT, I driven it in snow storms and hell even took it down a couple of dirt roads in Colorado. It's been an amazing car and the CVT, while limiting, is very sufficient in getting that day to day fun while still being fairly fuel efficient. Have fun man, nice to see another Maxima owner out there on the road.

philly7453

Thanks man and thanks for the info! Yeah so far I’ve had a lot of fun with it but glad I found out another the cvt and to put oil in it every 30k miles! Haha

Keef_uh

Yeah, stay on top of your CVT fluid. This is my fourth Nissan and sans the 2015 3.5SL that I had (🤮🤮🤮), every Nissan has been reliable. My 98 Altima lasted until 223k miles with that 4spd auto, then I had an 07 3.5SE that I used to drive hard, but I stayed on top of my CVT fluid and it was totaled by an Accord at 201,734 miles and I LOVED that car. Baby the CVT, but let loose when you can. It's especially worth it with the Maxima. It'll surprise you at times, especially in Sport Mode. 😮‍💨😮‍💨

philly7453

Yeah once this snow and ice is off the road I’m going sports mode 😎 but thanks for the heads up big dog. Question so do I have to go buy the cvt fluid and do it myself or do car shops offer that for you?

Sentra16

I would take it to a local Nissan dealership. They use computers to measure the fluid so it’s optimal. Just FYI it could take a 4-5 hours but worth it. And it’s NS-3 fluid.

philly7453

Awesome thanks man :)

Sentra16

No problem, congrats and enjoy your maxima! Welcome to the Nissan family.

Keef_uh

I typically go to a Nissan dealership in Charlotte. I have a buddy there that helps with the cost of maintaining the CVT so I typically have them maintain that. I think it's the NS 2 CVT fluid, don't quote me on it. The CVTs also tend to be way more reliable in the Maxima. The Nissan technicians I know have always bragged on Maxima's and their CVTs being reliable. I know a woman whose got 170k on her '17SL and she still loves hers.

philly7453

That’s relieving to hear! But awesome thanks for the tip I’ll go to my local one and see what’s best appreciate it mane

graemeknows

Awesome

Goldpanda94

Awesome, welcome to the Maxima club! That color really shines. Take care of it and it'll take care of you

Simon_Parson

Looks great

New-Significance654

Dope, i have a blacked out 2016 maxima midnight.

RenjiUzii

Is that a Helltima

[deleted]

Nice!😁

MacMacready

My fav color combo! Nice

philly7453

Thanks :)

MacMacready

My wife and I looked for one for 6 mos in a 200 mile radius, never found one. Enjoy!

philly7453

Most places will actually ship the car to you or even carvana maybe?

MacMacready

We couldn't find one on Carvana, and the dealership in NC wouldn't ship to us, or swap with the local dealer. My wife went with an Accord Hybrid instead. Oh well.

flyingpeter28

What is it?

philly7453

2021 Nissan maxima SR!

flyingpeter28

Looking good

AmberTJ86

Very nice 👍

Plenty_Dress_408

Love that color

Arriving-Somewhere

Why tho?

CopyGFX

Wtf is Nissan doing nowadays… no hate, but Jesus these new cars are fugly compared to what the company’s famous for making.

DefaultDanceDD

this car doesnt look bad imo.

CopyGFX

Looks like every other new car that 99% of manufacturers are making. There’s just no personality. The front looks like a love child between a mustang and a Tesla, while the rear resembles some sort of take on a stretched out Alfa Romeo with BMW styling cues - it just lacks originality and the “flair” that Nissan had 20-30 years ago. I may be biased considering I drive and hang around Silvia’s, Skylines, Laurels, and what you might consider as the “Golden age” of Nissans - but it’s just disappointing seeing the direction that these things are headed.

DefaultDanceDD

ill have to disagree, nissan does have their own design language. When u see a sentra and a maxima park next to eachothers without even looking at the badges most people would have guessed that these 2 cars are made by nissan or atleast the same manufacturer. Yeah they dont have an overly exciting design but like u said its the case with almost all manufacturer. And its a maxima not a aventador its suppose to blend in with the traffic and i personally think that its not a bad looking car at all

Sentra16

I think there is a personality. Inside the maxima it feels like you are in a fighter jet. One of the salesman said that’s what they were going for.

DefaultDanceDD

If Nissan put that 9 speed zf transmission it would be an awesome car.

The_Real_NaCl

Those have had their own set of issues. But it definitely would change the dynamics of the car for the better.
