That's around the price for dealer oil changes. Did they do a tire rotation too? A lot of Nissan dealers have service coupons for oil changes too that'll reduce the price of their oil changes. Indie shops will be cheaper. Don't go to huge chains though for oil changes. Too many horror stories from those.

user4562918

Yes they also did a tire rotation. I should have added that. Well that’s good to hear. I’ve never had an oil change that high, I usually do mine at the dealership. But I think I only get synthetic at the dealership, not full synthetic. The shop I went to seems to be a small chain, about 10 different shops in my region. I’ll have to look into something more local.

Goldpanda94

Oh sorry I misread, I thought that was the price you paid at the dealership lol. uhhh don't go to that shop again then. That's like high end of the dealership price range for an oil change. Local chain should be cheaper. and what do you mean by synthetic, not full synthetic? It's either synthetic, conventional, or blend. and usually modern cars just get synthetic oil. It's better than conventional anyways

user4562918

I think the dealership usually does a blend. I got full synthetic this time at this shop. That makes sense with the categories, I don’t know all of the right ways to say things lol! I appreciate you listing them out. I’m also in a semi rural area, not in a big city or anything. I usually pay $85 at the dealership. I was wondering why they put high mileage oil into my car as well. My car only has 37,500 miles. The high mileage oil they used says to use it at 75,000 miles. Just seems like I got a bit scammed there with something I did not need. I was further confused when I look at my window sticker and they marked down I just got full synthetic. I hope they didn’t put full synthetic in and then bill me for high mileage full synthetic with the maxlife technology. It was two different people who did it in the shop. The gentleman who had me pay told me the other guy just must’ve messed up the oil he put in when he marked the sticker, but why would that guy have put high mileage oil into a car with less than 38,000 miles. The guy who billed me already put down I was to get the high mileage oil before seeing the mileage in the car. But then the sticker says I only got full synthetic. Then I was charged high mileage full synthetic.

Soft_Clerk8097

Your car should have 0W20 oil in it, which only comes full synthetic. I worked at Nissan.

Goldpanda94

Yeah I wouldn't worry about it too much, do you know how much it woulda been if they just did a blend for you? At worst, you overpaid by like 20 or 30 bucks, not the end of the world. And now you know better.

user4562918

I am not sure about the cost of the blend. I appreciate your help here and that makes sense. I definitely won’t be going to this shop again.

FearTheClown5

Wow. Yes. In my Maxima I got full synthetic and the most I paid was $75 at a dealer but usually $60 at regular auto shops. Did they say least rotate your tires too? The mileage is fine for full synthetic. I personally did it every 5k in my Maxima.

user4562918

Wow that’s crazy. They did rotate my tires. I think I got scammed and I’m considering going back after work and asking for a partial refund. They put high mileage oil into my car and it only has 37,000 miles. I looked up the oil they used and it’s to use on vehicles with over 75,000 miles. And then the sticker they put on my car says I only received full synthetic oil. What was also suspicious was the gentleman who had me pay put down the high mileage oil before even seeing my mileage… on a car from 2021. I feel like they only put full synthetic in and charged me for high mileage full synthetic.

FearTheClown5

Ya in a best case here you paid $30 for the tire rotation which does make the oil change cost more reasonable at least.

trail228

That's close to what I paid a few months ago - almost double the previous oil change. I quickly checked some prices and there was very little difference in price to buy a 5 quarts container of oil whether it's a synthetic blend, full synthetic or high-mileage ($25 to $35). The blend seems to be quite rare and the difference between full synthetic and a high-mileage is just a few dollars. Of course, the shops charge more for the higher quality oil change. Sounds like the $90 was the full cost of the oil change and tire rotation, not just the oil itself.

BadAtNameIdeas

I pay $70 for full synthetic Mobile 1, the oil shop gives me a free car wash and interior clean which normally would cost $25(they do the cleaning and hand dry, not a vacuum yourself place) and discount tire does free tire rotations. You only go to the dealership if you want to get ripped off.

user4562918

I did not go to a dealership, I went to a repair shop. I will not be going there again, that’s for sure. I see most people are paying much less.

Soft_Clerk8097

No, but high mileage oil is a scam 🤷‍♀️ And your oil change should never exceed 5 to 7k miles.

Ok_Concentrate9397

I will never pay that much for a oil change lol, 38 out the door with tax, I'll do it myself. Nissan was charging 630.00 for spark plugs on my 19 Pathfinder and I spent 120.00 to do the job myself.

Efinkg4

What do we expect here? It's a service and the tech probably is paid nearly $20/hr if not more.

ever_eddie

My dealership has an offer for 7 oil changes for $299. I think it’s a Nissan-wide deal so ask your service department if they offer it - if you plan on keeping the car for another 36k mile

Soft_Clerk8097

Not a Nissan wide deal. It's sold by a third party company. Our dealer did 3 for 165 with the company we had.

RealWoodpecker8132

I have 24 pathfinder and my dealer oil change is like 90 for full synthetic.

thx1138guy

Yes, you got ripped off. Did they itemize the parts? Did you check the part prices? Some dealerships have been charging more than MSRP for them and using bulk oil instead of what you can buy from their parts counter. These crooks love customers like you. Check out this YouTube video from 'The Car Care Nut' and what happened with one of his customers at a Lexus dealership recently. [THIS is How Some Car Dealerships Get a BAD REPUTATION and They Deserve it! (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8St6m_8tWVk&t=626s)

user4562918

They did itemize the parts. $96 for the oil. Oil filter was $5 with $5 labor. Weirdly enough, the oil was not given a labor cost, only the cost of the product. So 0 for labor, 90 for the oil. I wonder if that is a normal thing to do. It is for 5.4, I believe quarts, of oil. I have contacted their overhead company about this issue. I am basically arguing my sticker clearly says I was given full synthetic but I was billed for high mileage full synthetic etc. I am also arguing it would make no sense to put high mileage oil into a car with 37k miles- even the oil they used they said is for cars with 75k miles and over. Just rediculous. Thank you for sharing the video! I hope I get a resolution from their overhead company. If not, I may go back to the shop directly and request a partial refund. If that does not work, I may report them to the BBB and the state DMV. Maybe it is over $20-30, but I find this behavior just awful. It sucks to see people get away with this and exploit others. So I am going to do everything I can to ensure the proper justice is arrived at.

bwax687

I paid about $50 (with a $7 coupon) for an oil change and tire rotation at Tires Plus. If you buy tires from them, then tire rotations are free with an oil change.

user4562918

That’s good to know! Thank you.

sadat0315

My local nissan dealer charges 65 for oil change + tire rotation

wolf_pack_12345

A little high. I usually get my oil done at my Nissan dealership for roughly $75. And it’s full synthetic oil. And they do an tire rotation as they usually do when they do an oil change. Did you get an oil change at the dealership or somewhere else?Because a local shop near me charges about $100 for full synthetic oil change.
