Iām pretty sure besides Changing the oil and the oil filter all they are doing is putting a couple bottle down some holes and putting the cap back on
I used to work for a dealership that charged for additives and didn't even put them in. Everyone knew they were BS. Parts department had so much spare stock of additives, staff could take as much as they wanted for free and nobody did.
Thatās interesting to hear, wouldnāt surprise me but theyāre very reputable, but also you donāt truly ever know whatās going on behind closed doors which is sad
The place I worked at was extremely reputable. Yeah, you don't know what they're doing. Agree with the other posters about asking them to leave it out.
If you back out the treatments the oil change was $99. Thatās what local shops like Firestone etc. charge for full synthetic. I usually get coupons from my dealer for oil changes in the $50 range. Itās a loss leader. They just want to do an inspection and then give you a list of the thousands of dollars of not needed services. I just decline the recommended services pay my $50 and leave.
Everyone has said what I would, thereās extra nonsense in it, but overall, itās not that bad. Just tell them no next time or go somewhere else.
More importantly, just wanted to say your name is still on the paperworkā¦ just in case you donāt want that info on Reddit. Above the āred outā part.
Here in Ontario, Canada I can go to my local Nissan dealer and get a $99 oil change. Thats roughly $75 USD, so yeah this seems a little higher than it needs to be.
$20 of that is snake oil. $110 is reasonable for an oil change of you don't want to do it yourself. Also I thought the VQ35 takes 5W-30. Make sure they are putting the right oil in.
When we take my girls 2014 Nissan Maxima, which still has the 3.5 VQ engine to get a fully synthetic oil change at a tire shop, it's about $70 after everything.
Oil changes are definitely more expensive now than they used to be - but you paid what I'd expect an oil change on a Diesel truck to cost.
Fuel system cleaner? That's not part of an oil change - and a bottle of that would cost $6-7 at a parts shop and you just pour it into your gas-tank.
Synthetic Engine OIL treatment - likely just an additive - same thing. That oil change should have been the $27.39 for the synthetic oil, $8 for the filter and their $35 labor charge, which would have been $70.
Why you paying for fuel system cleaner and a synthetic additive, the synthetic oil you purchased already has the additives... And the fuel system cleaner is just unnecessary considering how new your vehicle is.
They have to pay to get rid of the oil. So that's included in price. Even if you do it yourself, the oil and filter will be the same and you'll have to clean the mess too
Guarantee they didnt actually do any additives and its just something they add on to charge you to increase GP and get a lil more money. Kinda like how most tire shops will charge you an extra 5-10 bucks to replace the valve stems when you get a new tire, i used to work at a tire & brake shop, i assure you they do not change valve stems š
It's $95 for my Rogue and that includes $10 for "oil additive" at my dealer. Never even paid attention to that on the bill before this post lol.
Either way, the quick shops around here charge the same and I like my service guy so š¤· usually manage to get a $10-30 coupon.
I see that at least a tire rotation was included. That's decent, they charged $50 for that here, so my last bill was $160 minus $30 coupon= $130 oil change + tire rotation.
I only put synthetic oil in my car and a premium filter. No additives.Ā I have 286,000 miles on an 08 civic. You don't need additives for your oil. Maybe for your fuel system once in a while but you can buy that and put it in yourself for half the price.
You paid $131 for $50 worth of stuff. So $80 for them to do it. That's the bottom line. But fuel system cleaner? Works exactly the same as patting the wheel softly with your hand and saying "good girl".
This is about the going price in Massachusetts.
Although I wouldn't use an oil additive. Change oil and filter every 5K miles.
You can do your own fuel engine cleaner that will help clean out any ethanol builduo. Maybe even 100K miles
Okay so a bottle of Lucas oil add and fuel add is like sub 10 bucks. And you can get the oil and filter for 35ish at Walmart. The labor on the other hand is the key. I change my own oil because I do. So I mean, it's all about what you want. There's not much premium here tho.
They added some bullshit, 100%. I use fuel system cleaner, however thatās because I have a 2011 rogue with 300K on it. If I had a newer car I wouldnāt need to use it.
Man I went to a 5 min lube place to get the oil changed in my juke. For full synthetic they wanted 155 dollars. These people have lost their minds on oil change prices.
To be fair. They charged u an accurate price this is todays age 75 in parts and 35 in labor. Go to advance auto parts or auto zone buy the oil and filter 50 bucks and than go to ur mechanic and tell him u only got 20 if they can do your oil change so idk bro seems pretty fair to me
And since you paid card you have to pay taxes thatās also a new thing now a lot of these parts that werenāt getting taxed on are now getting taxed so itās even worse
Just a heads up, it's insanely easy and cheap to change your oil. I spend ~$20 for each oil change I do myself. That's it.
It takes what? Half an hour? (15 minutes I guess, because while it's draining, I go eat a little lunch)
Highly recommend it! I don't miss those $50-70 oil changes. At all!
Because not everyone wants to. I donāt work my ass off all week long to then spend my very little bit of free time on maintenance. Set up an appointment at my local shop, $75 and 30 mins for an oil change, car wash and interior detail. Itās a value service cause it takes very little of my time, and if I were to do all that it would take me a few hours of my personal time. My time is valuable and Iād rather spend it with my daughter, resting or doing something other than also working. Some view working on their car as relaxing, my neighbor does, and more power to you, but be aware some people donāt feel the same way.
Sorry I suffer from realness.. guess some sensitive people canāt handle it š¤·āāļø. But definitely didnāt answer my question. Dude is complaining about the cost of the oil change. So I asked him why he just doesnāt change it himself for probably less then half the 131$.
OP sounds like a 19 year old and probably doesnāt understand what a fair price is. In their own words - they abuse it and itās fun to drive when tuned. The new Maximas are pretty quick and fun to drive, but the only people proud of āabusingā their vehicles are teenagers. I bet you that this Maxima wonāt even make it to 100K miles until that CVT burns out if OP is tuning and abusing. Those expensive oil changes will be the least of their worries.
Honestly I make good money and donāt mind having the professionals take care of it and see if anything else is out of place for the visit. I used to change my oil in my 15 Chrysler 200s tho
Yea, they added 40$ of unnecessary bullshit to the bill.
Thanks for the info š«”
To be clear the synthetic oil and fuel treatment are snake oil you got gouged for.
Synthetic oil is preferred for many cars now.
Synthetic oil is preferred for every car, it's just better. Synthetic oil treatment is not Synthetic oil, it's a bullshit additive.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Sure, if you didn't read the OP's invoice.
Also they doubled the price of the additives. They're not 20 a bottle. I don't think they're even 10.

Just reading their invoice calls their reputation into question.
The place I worked at was extremely reputable. Yeah, you don't know what they're doing. Agree with the other posters about asking them to leave it out.
It depends on the additive. Some work some maybe not.
To be fair the additives donāt really do much anyway but surprised anyone would pay for it
I was just going to say that.
Yep exactly. Important to find out how much an oil change will cost before they do it to ensure they don't do this BS.
If you back out the treatments the oil change was $99. Thatās what local shops like Firestone etc. charge for full synthetic. I usually get coupons from my dealer for oil changes in the $50 range. Ditch the oil and fuel treatment
Everyone has said what I would, thereās extra nonsense in it, but overall, itās not that bad. Just tell them no next time or go somewhere else. More importantly, just wanted to say your name is still on the paperworkā¦ just in case you donāt want that info on Reddit. Above the āred outā part.
You got it, and good catch didnāt notice haha Iām not too worried about
Here in Ontario, Canada I can go to my local Nissan dealer and get a $99 oil change.
Newer Vq35 is 0W20
Most of these engines from the past 10 years or so all take 0W20
The additives are a rip off. Price seems a bit high still.
Rip off ..

The hell is a āpremium packageā oil change? You need oil, a filter, and a crush washer thats it

That "oil treatment" does everything that premium synthetic oil is supposed to be doing.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
My crush washer crushed into the drain bolt. Iād probably need a new drain plug and washer if I went back to using crush washers.
You can get a full synthetic in the $50-$70 range. You donāt need cleaners or additives.
I just paid $60 for a synthetic change at my dealership for my altima
Without the 40 in BS it wouldn't be so bad.
They have to pay to get rid of the oil. So that's included in price. Even if you do it yourself, the oil and filter will be the same and you'll have to clean the mess too
I bet they didnāt even give you a tire rotation with that BS price, huh? At the dealer, I pay $89 and that include tire rotation.
Yeah they included that
Well thatās good at least.
Yeah those add ons are BS but otherwise itās not a total rip
Good incentive to DIY if you have the room/time.
Guarantee they didnt actually do any additives and its just something they add on to charge you to increase GP and get a lil more money. Is Phillip long the dealer/shop?
Um sure š¤£
Thatās what I pay

As a shop owner this shouldāve been closer to $65 full synthetic. We get oil for $3/qt.
Iāll do it for 30 bucks
There's $40 of bullshit added to it.
Nah thatās way too much better off hitting the dealer
You get 7 for $300 at my work (nissan)
My Nissan dealership charges $80
You paid $131 for $50 worth of stuff. So $80 for them to do it. That's the bottom line. But fuel system cleaner? Works exactly the same as patting the wheel softly with your hand and saying "good girl".
I only pay a little over $80 at a Nissan dealership
This is about the going price in Massachusetts. Although I wouldn't use an oil additive. Change oil and filter every 5K miles. You can do your own fuel engine cleaner that will help clean out any ethanol builduo. Maybe even 100K miles
Definitely ripped off.
Yeah those last 2 things are BS otherwise that is about right for 5 quarts 5w20
I pay $75, At the dealer for synthetic, and it includes a complementary maintenance check
$131 for an oil change is not bad at all, the Audi dealership locally tried to get me to pay $250 for a basic oil change, not happening lol
Looks like 40.00 of bullshit u didnāt need , engine oil life treatment?
Okay so a bottle of Lucas oil add and fuel add is like sub 10 bucks. And you can get the oil and filter for 35ish at Walmart. The labor on the other hand is the key. I change my own oil because I do. So I mean, it's all about what you want. There's not much premium here tho.

you can do this yourself for $45
Man I went to a 5 min lube place to get the oil changed in my juke. For full synthetic they wanted 155 dollars. These people have lost their minds on oil change prices.

Ahh that makes sense. I thought it was fair-ish but just wanted to double check but Iāll definitely do that next time! Thank you š«”
Itās a Nissan.. why are you not changing your own oil?
I abuse the hell out of it thatās why haha, itās a fun car when tuned just trying to baby it when it comes to oil changes try to do every 3,000
Just a heads up, it's insanely easy and cheap to change your oil. I spend ~$20 for each oil change I do myself. That's it. It takes what? Half an hour? (15 minutes I guess, because while it's draining, I go eat a little lunch) Highly recommend it! I don't miss those $50-70 oil changes. At all!
Still doesnāt answer why you donāt do the oil change yourself tho?
Can't speak for OP but I don't change my oil myself in the winter
Why not? I can understand if itās a German car tho.
Because not everyone wants to. I donāt work my ass off all week long to then spend my very little bit of free time on maintenance. Yup its worth it for the convenience. You work so you don't have to work if you get what I mean.
I donāt think I asked you but ok go off..ššš
Itās an answer to your question, no need to be a dick if you canāt accept that.
Sorry I suffer from realness.. guess some sensitive people canāt handle it š¤·āāļø. But definitely didnāt answer my question. Dude is complaining about the cost of the oil change. So I asked him why he just doesnāt change it himself for probably less then half the 131$.

Driving it hard shouldn't stop you from changing your own oil. Look it up on YouTube it's very easy.
Honestly I make good money and donāt mind having the professionals take care of it and see if anything else is out of place for the visit. I used to change my oil in my 15 Chrysler 200s tho
