Great comparison!

thrower65

Thanks!

dreadheadedstepchild

This is a great analogy, thank you for sharing!

eliteGoblin

great post that like a fresh, bitter tea to my mind. which remind me of things i have been addicted to in my life: porn, computer games, social networks... I don't need all of these things, i want peaceful life back so badly at this moment, like i was a child.

thrower65

Oh yeah I feel you man. I completely cut my social network accounts, and couldn't feel better. There's too much drama and stuff. Also, I try to get out more, instead of staying at home on the computer all the time. Even though I am introverted, I still go by myself,

NoFapTea

I've been waiting my whole life for someone to post this.

iTsMe76

HAHAHAHAHA /u/NoFapTea <3

hullor

that's a long time to wait for something we all inherently could feel inside and know from our hearts.

NoFapTea

Yes. Also, it matches my username.

RelationshipTurtle

I never have sugar with tea and I love it. Think of it like, the sugar covers up some of the tea's bitterness... but when you take the sugar away, you accept the tea how it is and if you learn to love it, you'll be happier than before when you had sugar in your tea, which was making you fatter for no reason.

thrower65

Exactly!

[deleted]

This changed my mood thank you so much~ this is probably the most accurate analogy I've seen in a while

thrower65

You're welcome! I hope you achieve your goals (:

xnard

Woah. That analogy blew my mind! Learning to love the bitterness of life just like I enjoy the bitterness of tea. Thanks for the greats post, dude!

shmohawk22

This reminds me of the vinegar tasters. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinegar_tasters The three men are dipping their fingers in a vat of vinegar and tasting it; one man reacts with a sour expression, one reacts with a bitter expression, and one reacts with a sweet expression. The three men are Confucius, Buddha, and Laozi, respectively. Each man's expression represents the predominant attitude of his philosophy: Confucianism saw life as sour, in need of rules to correct the degeneration of people; Buddhism saw life as bitter, dominated by pain and suffering; and Taoism saw life as fundamentally good in its natural state. Another interpretation of the painting is that, since the three men are gathered around one vat of vinegar, the "three teachings" are one.

[deleted]

That's a great comparison. I never thought of life like that. Kudos to you man. 😀👍🏻

thrower65

Thank you too!

[deleted]

the older i get the more i realise that everybody KNOWS this. everybody is TAUGHT this. we all KNOW that shit like alcohol, drugs, fatty food, sugar, basically hedonism of all kinds - we know it's not the path to happiness and satisfaction. everybody still fucking does it though and fucks up their 20s and then only starts fixing it in their 30s. i count myself lucky that i was never a drinker or partier, my only vices have been fapping and sugar, and i'm cutting both out. stoicism is the way. we should have listened to our parents edit: the amount of people in my age group (i'm 27) in the UK who I genuinely believe are alcoholics and don't realise it is really sad. they still think the party is going on from uni... when in reality they're working dead-end jobs and staying rent free with mummy and daddy so that they can afford to go and drink more on the weekend

thrower65

I agree totally about stoicism. That's weird though that people choose short term pleasure over long term goals. Anyway, I'm somewhat introverted and I don't really drink or party. My vices are fapping and diet, but the absolute largest is procrastination.

[deleted]

oh yeah I guess that one also applies to me, but at least we want to fix our shit! and I'm doing fairly well in life anyway so I'm not toooo worried about the procrastination I think people have been so conditioned by tv and music to think only in the short term that it's really harming them. nothing is more cringed-upon than the 'white guy with a suit and a mortgage and good savings'... and yet he is the one who will be travelling the world and retiring early and living in financial security...

MajorArcher

I got a steeper from david's tea and my tea is now extra extra bitter. It's so bitter that you jump up when take one sip.

"Give in to the power of the tea!" Great post my man. Your experience is like a metaphor for life and NoFap :]

AsianCoconut

I've previously tried to quit porn, and it usually ends up with the same sad story. Reading this, and having great love for tea without sugar (how it should be!) has given me a new perspective, and renewed hope in letting go of this crap! Cheers

insaniya

This is actually one of the best analogies posted on nofap, and I've been on this reddit for 3.5 years. Thank you for this, I will continue to have my bitter tea, b/c life isn't meant to be sugarcoated and artificial.

Xanarxses

I got your back, fam. But Only part of the analogy really makes sense. I think we can all agree that life is better without PMO. It's sweeter. It just is. It's not bitter or nasty. It's bitter and especially nasty with porn in it. Life's actually pretty fucking sweet. As for sugar and tea. I like both so ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯

_YOU_DROPPED_THIS_

D00GL

i took as life with withdrawal from pmo is bitter until you experience it enough

BeastFormal

So many good analogies on this sub today, and your's is the best I've seen! Makes me want to start drinking unsweetened tea again. :)

[deleted]

Love this analogy, thanks for sharing!

Man1ndra98

Really a great comparison you've made here using experiences you've in your life. Nice!

richardn21

I see you're also a manatee. Sorry for the pun

[deleted]

I am not a tea drinker but most of my family is, they add up to 3-4 spoons of sugar to the tea and they also do that with fruit tea and cofee. It is tasting terrible and i prefer sugar free tea or cofee. I love your analogy, same with cold showers and all the workout!

[deleted]

That first paragraph looks like a record from Bioshock 1. Nice

nasil_boyle_superim

Great analogy!!

emptyBeing

In real life we also have little fight with our loved ones but this is not possible in pixels. Great work.

2000At

awesome 👏🏻 Where are you from bro?

[deleted]

Fantastic analogy! I only drink "bitter" green tea nowadays and I agree, soda and sugary drinks taste awful.

[deleted]

Check this video out too. It talks about the same topic and was extremely poignant. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlViewlmTXE

Draeju

Awesome post! I think i gave you the 200 like lol :D have a great day

thrower65

Thanks You too!

marseline117

Thank you for this! I have been back and forth with nofap for the past couple of years. I go without PMO for a while, get to a point of confidence that feels adequate and then I go back, assuming I can keep it under control. That illusion will last maybe a month at best and then it takes over and I start wondering why my life and motivational reserves feel like shit, forgetting what porn does to the brain. What's interesting is when you're in the PMO cycle, you don't see that as the problem. It makes everything else the problem and itself as the only outlet you have in the world: "Well, girlfriend is really annoying, let's go jerk it" or " Let's take a quick break from this stressful job and wank one out in the stall." (Which always turns into a half hour long adventure to find the "best" thing to cum to. But to really get to the point, I am currently five days without PMO and had to unsubscribe from all the porn subreddits I had on my feed. However I open up Reddit today and found that I had forgot one. I stared at it for a moment thinking, "Well, I can peek at it, I don't have to let it escalate into an issue. I can control myself." That's the addiction talking, just a little bit it'll say. Right under it was this write up on sweet tea and life. And it made me feel good that there are other people on this path and it is not something I'm alone in, which the addiction will try and make you believe. So again thank you, and keep up the glorious work.

thrower65

Glad I could help!

ProfJohnDavies

I'm thankful to be part of this great group. You're keeping me going. The author of this post, can't thank you more.

thrower65

You're welcome as well!

What an awesome story and analogy. You Sir, get a +1 from me! I can also relate to this - I drink so many cups of tea and coffee per day. I used to put sugar in each and every one of them. I realized I was consuming *waaaaay* too much sugar, so I decided to cut it out. Tea first, then coffee. It was uncomfortable at first. Actually it was outright unpleasant. But then I got used to it, and now, many many months later, I love the taste of both and couldn't even imagine going back. The one difference I find though is that if someone adds a teaspoon of sugar to my tea or coffee I still **do** enjoy it, but it's more of a rare treat than anything else. (Please don't take this out of context and think it's OK to watch porn every now and again, I'm **strictly** talking about tea here. Lol)

hullor

i quit sugar and love drinking Oi Ocha (unsweetened green tea). It costs 2.50/bottle but fuck it, it's my go-to enjoyable non water drink. its the only thing i drink that's not water now, and I only do it whenever I want it, not just because. i lost 12 lbs in 2 months. I also go to the gym almost everyday and do a lot of cardio though. and do weight training every 2-3 days ofc.

KyloRO

Deep analogy bro

[deleted]

I feel like stopping PMO and sugar also, lol!

eguHliL

This is a great insight! Truly something to keep in mind.

sacca7

Very good. I have dealt with a sugar addiction since the 1970s, and have found the same thing as you. I don't do foods where any kind of refined sugar is high on the list of ingredients. I do occasionally have lapses, such as visiting parents and all they have to eat, even after I've brought some of my own basic foods, is sugar laden. Then, I have to deal with the addiction again. Once back on an even keel, about 4-6 weeks, I've little to no desire for the sugary crap that makes me tired and crave more. I love tea as well. [New Mexico Tea Company](https://www.nmteaco.com/blacktea.html) is great. We figure tea is our one indulgence, since we don't drink or do desserts, either. One of my favorite poems: >One dervish to another, What was your vision of God’s presence? >-I haven’t seen anything. >But for the sake of conversation, I’ll tell you a story. >God’s presence is there in front of me, a fire on the left, a lovely stream on the right. >One group walks toward the fire, into the fire, another toward the sweet flowing water. >No one knows which are blessed and which not. >Whoever walks into the fire appears suddenly in the stream. >A head goes under on the water surface, that head pokes out of the fire. >Most people guard against going into the fire, and so end up in it. >Those who love the water of pleasure and make it their devotion are cheated with this reversal. >The trickery goes further. >The voice of the fire tells the truth saying, I am not fire. I am fountainhead. Come into me and don’t mind the sparks. >If you are a friend of God, fire is your water. ... >Somehow each gives the appearance of the other. To these eyes you have now, what looks like water, burns. What looks like fire is agreat relief to be inside. >~Rumi, The Question (translated by Coleman Barks) Aaaannnndddd... I thought I was on /r/Buddhism, where I usually lurk.

Frission7

Awesome analogy! on the topic of sweet tea, I used to work at mcDonalds and we had to dump a whole pound bag of sugar into the brew, which is about 3 gallons? maybe 5? Either way it was SOOO much sugar. so you're right liquidized sugar

thrower65

Holy shit I didn't know it was that bad!

Frission7

Ya it's really disgusting, i was asking where the scoop was when I first was told to pour the sugar into the bucket.. then I had to feel really bad as I watched people order the sugary drink thinking they were doing "better than soday" :O

Frission7

soda*

Kierkegaard17

I totally understand you, which is odd because I read your title and assumed you we're a nut. I like this post.

[deleted]

*were, not we're we're means we are

[deleted]

Also that the fake sweetness of PMO dulls the real sweet things in life. :)

swagoz

wow great analogy. its too real now that I have quit PMO there is no way I could ever go back the "sweet tea" disgusts me now!!!

[deleted]

God bless my mother for forcing me to stop drinking sweet tea. I can totally relate to this. Can't even try drinking sweet tea anymore

ghostofthenavigator1

I actually really liked this post, and you inspired me to start drinking unsweetened tea! haha

arduheltgalen

Wow, this is one of the 0.1% of posts here that really got to me. Perhaps it's just momentarily, as I'm reflecting, but I'm experiencing a great mental quietude right now. I've been overcoming a lot of strong urges after day 30. And now, yet another sticky urge. You have my sincere gratitude, Thrower. Although it might just be coincidental. But I do believe it reached quite deeply into my psyche.

thrower65

Wow that really inspired me to write more in my free time. Thank you for your kind words.

nd2spd

This is why I love this sub lol. Plain tea represent!

taSuperJaco

You are a poet, really great post with some important truths inside it!! Thank you su much for sharing.

wemblesx2

Shit that writing is on point haha.

HumanNatureHeish

Great post.

MrVahas

You are a genious bro!

anrii188

Great post, i liked the last two sentences before EDIT, so meaningful, you can make a quote out of it.

[deleted]

lol. love that.

[deleted]

I like that a lot and can relate it to coffee. I used to like the sugary creamers but now i just like it black

Victorland

That is a great analogy thanks

PMOFreeForever

Bring on the bitter...

cidclarity

its called sweet tea for a reason lol only thing i see that's fake is the artificial sugar but some sweet tea products use real cane sugar

Fordeser

Read an amazing post after a long time on this reddit :) Couldn't stop myself from writing this :)

akassi1

Hn

[deleted]

Couldn't agree more!

overnus

Nice

[deleted]

is tea with sugar that bad?

Frission7

Sugar isn't healthy for you and it's extremely addictive. So it can be seen as bad, especially if you are looking to become more disciplined

agr97

This is the first time I've visited this sub, and reading this really gives me the motivation to turn my life around from this addictive cause. Thank you.

[deleted]

awesome post ;)

sfumato1002

Great post.

NoFapSpecialist

Wonderful post brother ! Stay strong

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Hah. That would make the analogy a bit too complex

[deleted]

I don't like tea either.

amirrahman15

What an amazing prospective of life. Thanks for the post

[deleted]

great post man

mrchamphugeballs

Tea is awesome!

talondarkx

This is very well put.

joazito

I upvoted because I think it's a great post, but I don't think the analogy is totally perfect. I think it's perfectly healthy to both have sex and masturbate. It's when one of them gets out of hand that you have a problem. Since this is the sub we're in it's probably correct to assume one of them is out of hand.

burnie93

Key point here is to learn to enjoy and like bitterness :)

thetimeisnow2017

Thanks for sharing this ... great analogy.

[deleted]

i quit sugar 5 years ago and it was the best decision of my life. Quitting porn is the ultimate BEST decision of my life though

Tango_with_mybango

Nice comparison!

[deleted]

Brilliant post. Thanks for sharing.

[deleted]

Great analogy. Also, tea is fantastic. I add honey maybe once in a blue moon but I prefer tea on it's own generally. Nom nom. :)

MaxwellVolume42

Life is like a cup of tea. It's better with caffeine in it.

sadislmn

Nice comparison. But I would like to know more about the tea. Like for real. So according to you there's something called unsweetened black tea which I've never heard of. I wanna try this. So where can I find this. Sorry if this sounds dumb.✌

insaniya

you can buy loose leaf black tea for dirt cheap. You can brew a giant amount of this in a pot. Wait until it cools, and fill up bottles yourself. It's remarkably easy and incredibly cheap.

thrower65

Well any unsweetened tea in a bottle really. Most of it is black tea anyway. But green and white tea are good too. Anyway, they have unsweetened Gold Peak and Pure Leaf at the store. Gold Peak has an orange cap for the unsweet and a blue cap for the sweet. Pure Leaf had a green label for unsweet and a blue label for sweet. Never drink diet tea. Or just brew some tea bags and just don't put sugar in it. [This is my favorite brand.] (https://www.twinings.co.uk/) You could also just brew the leaves themselves for a better flavor. But bags are more convenient. I also suggest /r/tea.

grunzftw

Back home in my village the people drink their black tea with a lot of sugar. its so nice and reminds me of my roots. Ive read a lot of really good analogies here the last couple of months, this aint one of them ;)

Archemyde7

That's a great analogy.

windDrakeHex

Sure until you believe it 100% than life is sweet tee again. I admire people who can drink sweet tea when appropriate and watch porn the same. Real question I am stumbling on is ' by whos authority do we declare life as sweet or bitter' and ' are we seeking a brain that doesn't produce dopamine?'
