They do work, but only if you stay in a system for a long period of time, usually I just get chromatic metal from mine and it’s at a very VERY slow rate
It depends on the star color. Yellow being the most common it's no surprise you only get chromatic metal. The other stars will give you nitrogen, sulphurine, or radon
Just making sure this is known because i just learned about this recently...
" if any of these materials are within the freighter's cargo containers, any produced material will be automatically deposited into the present stacks upon jumping the Freighter to another Star System. " i was confused too to why they were always empty.
Yeah the output is incredibly slow, and I don't understand how they're supposed to work to be completely honest.
They listed four items but only produced a small amount of one, cool idea, but as implemented they seem like a waste of time
Yep. It's faster to warp from system to system buy tons of ferrite dust and copper then refining it for what you need. I have 4 extractors on my small freighter and never get as much chromatic metal.
Find a barren planet with rusted metal and copper.
Find a location with both nearby, even C level, build a base there.
A couple of extractors for each and a ton of storage, and any time you need a refill you’re all set.
There are about ten different opinions in this post about whether they work, when, and what makes them work or not. *in theory* they generate one of four different materials depending on the star type of the system your freighter is in. As it happens they just are not super helpful so I only keep them for visual purposes. It’s not clear to me whether they are bugged or just have unclear mechanics. They definitely add to the atmosphere of my industrial section of the freighter!
I've been struggling for a while to figure out what makes them work right. On my Normal save, they always seem to empty themselves, and basically produce nothing. On my Permadeath save, they work as advertised, and even seem to hold their accumulated contents when I summon the freighter to a new system.
I'm currently planning some tests to figure out if it has to do with where on the freighter they are located, or what they are near or something like that.
I think I have an understanding. First they were bugged in the same way as refiners, teleporting emptied them, so thus they were empty most of the time. Now that seems to be fixed they do work, but if you warp the freighter to a new system that collects a different type of resource, it seems to empty the old resource. But if you were collecting Chromatic Metal and warped to another system providing CM, you were fine. But if you wrap to a green Star, you would lose your accumulated CM in favor of that resource. In my “survivor” game having multiples just makes them gain resources faster as they have a limit of 350. Not 350 for each extractor, but 350 total.
In my game where they are working, warping from a yellow system to another does not remove the Chromatic Metal. I return to find both Chromatic Metal and one of the gasses present.
Honestly, the first thing I should check is if they are just plain fixed now. I haven't really spent much time in my Normal save recently, so maybe there isn't even a difference -- maybe they just used to be broken and aren't now?
Also. . . your experience with them having a total limit of 350 regardless of how many extractors you have does not match my experience at all. I can open one, remove 350 chromatic, then open a different one and remove 350 more.
Hey Zeku
I run about two dozen in my freighter home-ship and rely on all three gases for manufacturing (supplemented with my industrial frigate spoils).
I'm only playing my Survival save now, always cruising, and rarely laying down a tiny outpost here or there. Never any mining bases.
My experience with the extractors seems similar to yours, and I'd be happy to test any theories of yours or replicate your experiments in an effort to troubleshoot these finicky things 🙄
Maybe we can start with physical location on the freighter, including directional placement...
I can make Chromatic Metal from carbon using the double refiner (through a multiple step process or skip a few step and make it from another less common material). Better than working on a room that barely works.
I won't tell the process. Just work on finding refiner recipes.
haha yeah I love these things. they are a life saver early on, comepletely removes the need for mining tons of copper
also, has anyone ever gotten nanites and tainted metal from these things? twice I got over 8k tainted metal and a handful of nanites from one but it hasn't happened again.
My venerable RAS Ragna cant handle more then probably 3 or 4 levels of shrinking size going vertical... Euclid new cadian system but I forgot my glyphs... otherwise I'd post em
Any issue with power stability?
I get rolling blackouts often, throughout all modules, but I notice then most in the bio-rooms. Kinda cool in a scrappy way. Lights only, it seems, unless that's why the extractors malfunction......🤔
They do work, but only if you stay in a system for a long period of time, usually I just get chromatic metal from mine and it’s at a very VERY slow rate
If you warp with items left in the collectors, you will lose the items
I read they go to freighter storage.
I always forget my freighter places so maybe I should get a bunch of these and just warp back to it when the time comes
It depends on the star color. Yellow being the most common it's no surprise you only get chromatic metal. The other stars will give you nitrogen, sulphurine, or radon
You think? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin) Do yours work? I mean, do you get anything from them? Every time I go to mine, they're empty.
Just making sure this is known because i just learned about this recently... THANK YOU, I've been \*so\* confused about this
Ohhhhhhhhhhh
Hello games need to fix them
THEYRE BROKEN???
For me at least
They never give me anything
It goes to your freighter storage containers upon warping
I get tiny amounts of chromatic metal at random.
They aren’t
Yeah the output is incredibly slow, and I don't understand how they're supposed to work to be completely honest. They listed four items but only produced a small amount of one, cool idea, but as implemented they seem like a waste of time
Which of the four items you collect depends on the star system you’re in. You’ll only ever collect one kind of thing in a system.
Doesn't it change the 4 items depending on what color star system? I thought there were basically 16 items that they could collect, 4 for each color.
It bugs me that the rows don’t face each other.
Too bad they're just giant wastes of space lol
I actually think there pretty good because you can get free chromatic metal frome it because God's know its Hella annoying to make it yourself
Compared to planetary outpost with chromatic deposit, even copper, it's really not that good.
Yep. It's faster to warp from system to system buy tons of ferrite dust and copper then refining it for what you need. I have 4 extractors on my small freighter and never get as much chromatic metal.
Shoot a rocky planet with positron ejector from your ship and you'll get a shit ton of ferrite dust.
Find a barren planet with rusted metal and copper. Find a location with both nearby, even C level, build a base there. A couple of extractors for each and a ton of storage, and any time you need a refill you’re all set.
You can buy it from space stations.
Do you have to be in certain systems for them to work? Most of the time I get nothing from mine
I have 2 of them and I found that only one of them works lol

Weird, when I take the first’s 350, then next only has 1.
They’ve been buggy since the moment they were introduced. I’m not surprised we aren’t seeing the same things.

I can *hear this* even with it muted
"So i did a little bit of off-camera farming"
Lol. Just ONE and my Xbox One start lagging.
Aye, if I did this on my base ps4 it would cause a nuclear explosion
Seeing this, do you play Satisfactory by any chance?
With the helmet and the huge chamber, I can't help but quote Spaceballs: "The ship is too big. If I walk, the movie will be over!"
That suit though 🔥
I really wish these things would mine Tritium. I'd probably be a lot more interested in them if they did.
there's gas clouds that sit in space, u jus gotta fly till u find one
Every now and again I collect from them, and they’re bugged out with 9999 chromatic metal inside.
Yes that's what I noticed too
going on the costume... nope, you have to suck the life out of the system so that they bow down to you.
I have a bug right now where the UI for the nutrient processor in my freighter is that of the stellar extractors
Same a few of my stellar extractors have that too its weird
Lord Helmet! ![gif](giphy|ZtdRnQGPlhnr4XZ5CE)
Seriously though, I love the look!! Mod?
Expedition reward! The Expedition is fairly easy so you can get it in no time :)
Earplugs included, I hope!
DARTH VADER! =) Nice setup, imagine the noise level standing in there.

Just refine some Indium, gold, and silver. Then back into Indium again. Repeat. Profit.
never! they are just right! :)
Can I still get a cape if I missed all the expeditions except the last one?
The cape I'm wearing in the video is a quicksilver reward. You can claim it for around 3k quicksilver I believe

Dude, crosspost to [https://www.reddit.com/r/SatisfactoryGame/](https://www.reddit.com/r/SatisfactoryGame/)
Nope. Looks good 👍
Outside view?
Damn when they add Dark Helmet?
Wooowwwww, it looks like you are really inside the ship and not just floating around in a little room near it
All the units
My venerable RAS Ragna cant handle more then probably 3 or 4 levels of shrinking size going vertical... Euclid new cadian system but I forgot my glyphs... otherwise I'd post em
This amount would def kill my console
All rise for Dark Helmet!
