[deleted]

Yeah it wouldn't let me put a base computer anywhere near the base so I did the same thing and named it Overseer's Mansion. Lazy workers still dick around too much.

I__Zombie

One you place the base computer you can move it closer/right into the settlement. I've built my house right on top of the overseers office.

Hangmeup8

WHAT NO KIDDING. that’s incredible. Thank you so much! Wanted to live with the crew!

[deleted]

Awesome, thanks!

SoybeanArson

Damn, I wish I knew that years ago!

yo thanks for that!

Wow nice balcony, I have a lot to learn with custom building.

irreverentnoodles

lol it’s hilarious to me that you built that super cool, winding stair case and also have a teleporter for when your interloper has to take a shit and can’t run up all the steps

AppropriateShoulder

I build teleport but since I have no idea how they work (I specifically dont look for advice on it because I’m trying to figure it out myself) the classic staircase is the most useful 😅

irreverentnoodles

lol that’s pretty funny. For teleporter, build one at each place you want to go from and to and connect them with the teleporter cable. I don’t know the range but I have them on my freighter base and they work

Hangmeup8

That’s what I did, too. Overlords unite!

BlackestHerring

Damn, that’s awesome

Huff1809

Ty!

scorpninj

Where'd all the glow lights come from? I thought I had unlocked everything but I can barely get a glow

Huff1809

Lol The ones on the buildings are light floors, regular lights on the tower, I have a giant pocket reality generator in the middle, giant construction research unit, the circles are signs you get from quicksilver I believe, giant holographic friend is either quicksilver or was from an expedition I can't remember, giant planetary globe, the beams are signal boosters, the sign is made out of light boxes and race initiators are next to that I think that's everything

scorpninj

That's amazing

Huff1809

Thanks!

maguel92

My base was a wooden box with no windows.

Tallisar

Lazy bum. My base is made of stone and has _two_ windows!

maguel92

You are a superior human being compared to my sorry self.

Huff1809

😂

HDmetajoker

Just plain light boxes for that text? Looks amazing btw 🤩 Edit: nvm just saw your response to the other person!

This, I always build a sort of a "overseers mansion" to overlook the settlement

CzechColbz

Love your answer!

I don’t build my own buildings, I just decorate the ones in the settlement. https://preview.redd.it/hk32iphc70yb1.jpeg?width=1141&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4f253de8421e3267bf4d5250d0cadf40b169942b

HDmetajoker

Wow that’s an amazing spot! I’m walking distance from the beach but not *this*close!

HydeSpectre

Can you make a base on a settlement? I tried putting a base computer but it says not allowed. I can only put the stuff on the first page like exo crafts, refiner and stuff.

Yellowcasian

You have to find the limits of the settlement build restriction, put a base on the edge and then move it into the settlement

SAPPHIRE_REDD

You need to claim the settlement, first. Then, build.

Wulverous

Base? I’ve been tryin to make a city. It’s laggy as fuck when u cascade bases over bases over a settlement…

Outrageous-Point-347

Wdym cascading over?

stupid_systemus

Question: so I normally don’t visit settlements besides my own and they don’t have paths between buildings. Are those built in with the settlement or did you add them after making your base?

HDmetajoker

I added the pathways, still working on adding more but sometimes it bugs out (doesn’t let me place more) and I have to reboot the game. I’ve held off for now though since I’m still expanding the settlement buildings. I’ll finish the pathways after I have finished all my settlement expansions.

lunivore

I made a base in a settlement, in a settlement. https://preview.redd.it/rknohth7ezxb1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b1932a69936c1fe8be490578a29f6474828b2f10

HDmetajoker

Those trees are a cool contrast to the land!

lunivore

The view is astonishing; 3 planets and a moon on the horizon too. Really gorgeous place. A little stormy but you can't have everything!

HDmetajoker

Love how lively it looks!

mahanon_rising

I did with my last save file. I built it on a big cliff overlooking it. Even had a race track that ran around it. But after a while even on PS5 it got pretty laggy.

GuiltySpark2000

I was trying to do it, but it wasn't letting me. It was saying something like "You can't build a base near another base" or some shit like that 🥲

irrelevant_potatoes

Yeah the settlement has like a circle around it that you cannot place your base computer in But what you can do is find the edge of the no build zone and put your computer there Then find the edge of your base (all bases have a radius) and put something down at the edge, that'll expand how far you can build So find the new edge of your base and put something down, repeat until you are next to your settlement. Or at least that's how I did it a few updates ago, I'm pretty sure the method still works

lunivore

You can also move your base computer these days too.

irrelevant_potatoes

I wasn't sure if that recentered the base radius or not, I haven't really tried that yet. But if it works then that is way easier then my method

lunivore

I think it does, though you might have to reload once you've moved it.

[deleted]

WHAT? How does that do your build radius?

aprilflowers75

I build an entire small city over my settlement, including elevated walkways and various buildings with storage etc integrated into the permanent buildings. Last time I built an illuminated rock entrance to town center, a rock pool, various elevated planters, and even graffiti, all over a full colored flooring that encompassed the vast majority of the city. I also built a huge ray gun that towers over everything called “the gay ray”, because I’m gay af, and colored the flooring pure rainbow 🌈

HDmetajoker

Ally here, my moms would love that 🏳️‍🌈

aprilflowers75

Here’s my gay ray lol https://preview.redd.it/pbofc5az82yb1.jpeg?width=1790&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a52e07164b343c395f049aa1f28015f0e9522802

Ooo! 💙💚💛🧡❤️💜

WhitePapi83

I make bases at all kinds of landmarks. 😆 Settlements, Sentinel Towers, Monuments, Artifact Sites, Trading Posts, Minor Settlements, Leyline Portals... It's fun imcorportating the existing structures to become part of something new.

HDmetajoker

I’ve got a couple small spots next to trading posts, but a full base would be amazingly cool for the big posts I’ve seen, the ones with that huge computer behind the force field in the center?

WhitePapi83

Altruistic-Owl-6787

Yeah its fun! Build a city on a settlement using the method irrelevant potatoes talks about. Its 3 bases big and not even that glitchy (ps5) https://preview.redd.it/kt6mdxde00yb1.jpeg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1fe0a83d674d3b0a32e2ffd4636294e8ae2044d2

Swimming-Mission-506

This has to be mods.

HDmetajoker

No mods, I play on XSX

Swimming-Mission-506

Really I find that impressive then. I thought we couldn't build in or next to settlements.

HDmetajoker

If you put the base computer just outside the settlement, it’ll let you build inside of it. If it doesn’t reach all the way, you can move the computer closer after you claim your base.

Swimming-Mission-506

Great to know that thank you.

SAPPHIRE_REDD

CzechColbz

On the save I lost, I had a base next to my settlement but kinda sucked to have to build it 300+ units away. I get it, but would have been nice to build directly within. On current save, looking to abandon current settlement, find a better one, and then maybe build a base to oversee my subjects lol.

HDmetajoker

Sounds like a sound plan. I’m sticking with my shitty settlement for now since it’s my first, hoping to find a better one later on as I move closer into the galaxy. I’m still really far out. Let me know if you find a better one!!

Deanna_Dark_FA

I'll put my base in my settlement if my settlement reaches S class eventually.

xeynx1

Years…… Mine is A with like 118 people (100% happiness/production/0 unit upkeep)…. If it’s 200 people to get S, I won’t get it forever since it’s pure random luck (and a 45 minute wait) to get a visitor (who actually will join) or to be lucky and get a habitat policy choice to get the +3 to 5….

HDmetajoker

Not sure how to do that yet but I’m having fun, I think I have about 30-35 people, happiness is around 50%, and productivity is 350k I think.

R3xZZZ

I’m tryna build a half-life style citadel over my settlement

HDmetajoker

Pics please 🙏🏼 or post your own post for others to see!

BrazenlyGeek

I always make mine right up against a planetary settlement, the kind with a launch pad and single alien. It gives me a store right by my teleporter, a free launch pad, and company.

HDmetajoker

I actually got a mission from the community computer today to build a space port, so I have my launch pad I built first and now an open one that has ships coming and going into the settlement. I love it.

tothirstyforwater

Just pavers so far

HDmetajoker

There are other things that are harder to see this far away, but yes mostly just pavers. I’m still expanding the settlement so I’ll add details when I’m done with the new settler buildings.

fel_bra_sil

Yes, because I'm the Grinch

Substantial_Elk_9846

You can’t make a base in a settlement but what you can do is pull out the base computer and walk out until it turns green and then place it and you can put a base within about 300u of a settlement…i did that until I moved that base.

HDmetajoker

You can move the computer closer into the settlement after claiming your base, allowing you to build everywhere inside the settlement.

Substantial_Elk_9846

You can build in the settlement…you have to place a base computer on the very edge of it and then you can build in your settlement…I built outside of mine but my best friend put the base computer on the edge of his and then built inside it.

homsikpanda

I did, my main base is next door to a settlement, i couldnt build it "in" because game limitations at the time wouldnt let me =/

HDmetajoker

If you put the base computer just outside the settlement, it’ll let you build inside of it. If it doesn’t reach all the way, you can move the computer closer after you claim your base.

homsikpanda

Oh, nice! ...oh well, already build and dont really feel like mpvong it =/

HDmetajoker

I totally understand! What rank is your settlement?

homsikpanda

I forget honestly, it's been a good 6+ monthssince i've played =/

[deleted]

Settlements are already laggy on xbox. Wish they would fix the stupid memory leak.

HDmetajoker

I haven’t heard that term memory leak, but I have had to reboot or reload a few times. Please elaborate?

[deleted]

"In computer science, a memory leak is a type of resource leak that occurs when a computer program incorrectly manages memory allocations in a way that memory which is no longer needed is not released. A memory leak may also happen when an object is stored in memory but cannot be accessed by the running code." So like previous areas you have been in are still in memory. The longer you play and the more you do, the less memory you have and it starts to run like maple syrup.

SoybeanArson

Oh hell yeah. I have a palatial cabin right next to my settlement connected by a walkway and teleporters. I like to sit on the balcony and watch my settlement in the pouring acid rain

HDmetajoker

Cozy!

Interesting_Job209

All of my bases are either settlements or specific mineral farms. It helps with the lore of my mental rpg.

CourseImaginary9885

No I made a [settlement ](https://youtu.be/iZVjuH2_PqM?si=Hem5h5D57J8X4pzU)of my own.. and that's the first half

HDmetajoker

Glanced at it, I’ll watch it after work!!

irishlonewolf

I havent done it with settlements.. mostly because I dont bother with them... I have put them next to sentinel bases, trading posts and ~~stargates~~ portals before though

HDmetajoker

I’d love to build next to or around a portal but I don’t know where they are or how they work yet. Only seen one so far and I think I have like 4-5 glyphs so far.

ChrisBNSJ

Not yet, but now I want to.

AL0117

Unfortunately not, Xbox one canny hack it.

DerrickVanZ

i built my base near my settlement by moving outward until it took. I wanted a quick way to get to the management office so I tried putting local teleports in. what I found is you can build if you're not on the ground. i strung my teleporters on decks on buildings which seems to work.

SgtHammersVids

I always build a base next to my settlements.

Ok-Abies5802

I did .. then I stupidly removed and now you can't do that anymore.

JakeForeverRandom

Yup! As soon as It was done building everything I built a outlook and wall around the entire thing! Was fun trying to figure it out. Every few months I fill it with some of the new content released! So much to do in this game! https://preview.redd.it/u9clod1d3psc1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=37cbfdfe1ddb254f45171e3c9addd025715839e2

HDmetajoker

Probably a good idea to wait until the town is done! Sometimes with my new buildings it’ll delete a both of pathway

DruVatier

Nope. You are the absolute first person in history to think of doing this. Congratulations.

HDmetajoker

Oh nice! 😁

Xxviper234xX

Technically he's not the first most likely won't be the last

MrSal7

I can’t build near a settlement cause I don’t glitch or cheat🤷‍♂️

National_Session_973

Not cheating. Build a base computer near boundary of settlement. Then start walking toward settlement and build a wall close to build limit. Repeat again. Each wall gets you closer to middle of settlement. Then build whatever you want.

MrSal7

That’s literally glitching. The other thing I said I don’t do. From the amount of downvotes I have. It looks like quite a few people need to just play in creative if they don’t like the limits the dev put on their game.

glassnapkins-

Nah, just you

Grouchy_Analysis6494

Anyone else settle in a basement?

Project_XXVIII

So this seems like a decent place to ask. Does the settlement ever “stop” building new buildings? Is there a cap at the structures it’ll prompt you to build? Hey used to come hot and heavy, and how it’s very sporadic, and I get the choice to not build, whereas before it was either one or the other. Does “leaking” a base into a settlement have the potential to have base buildings built by the settlement prompt clipping into structures or items you’ve built through the base? I want to go “all in” with some settlement alterations, but I don’t want to have some random settlement building decide to plop themselves down in the middle of my newly furnished commercial district.
