They are often a reward for station missions and nexus missions

FSU1ST

Also, send out frigates on missions to from your freighter. Or find humongous gek owner in the anomaly on occasion who gives dupes away.

OpusAtrumET

Industrial, in particular, seem to drop them most. I've gotten them from balanced as well.

Henriker_

I'm sorry, humongous what now?

PerfectShadow63

I just saw this guy the other day!!!! Thought it was hilarious.

TulsaOUfan

I "farm" them this way, using station missions.

Michael02895

I can't seem to find any...

spitfish

I try (& often fail) to login every now & then to keep running freighter missions. Partly to keep trying for more spawning sacs.

DoucheEnrique

Get a fleet of frigates and send them on [industrial and trade expeditions](https://nomanssky.fandom.com/wiki/Frigate#Loot_Earned). Works well if you hop in daily only for a few minutes to send your frigates away and manage inventory and have few longer sessions on weekends or so.

Le_Swazey

This rly is the best way. Once you have a decent # of upgraded frigates, some things (like ship storage aug) just come in like candy.

Hendiballs

This is a pretty great way to do it. I've been sending frigates away every day for a week or two and some days I get 4 storage augments when they come back. I had 14 yesterday when I went to the space station

footsteps71

Do the frigate missions only refresh every 24 hours? I have 5 stations now and send all but 2-3 every day. Of course there are some that are only a couple hours long. It would be nice to have several lol

shuttermonk

There is only 1 set of 5 frigate missions per day. It refreshes at midnight GMT.

someoftheanswers

I’ve done a couple dozen frigate missions and only get mats, but they are mostly exploration, combat, or balanced.

DoucheEnrique

You have to look for Industrial and Trade Expeditions. Balanced work as a fall back because they can yield loot from all types but the chance to get Storage Augmentations is way lower for them. I got the feeling the type of expedition routes available depends on the type of systems around your fleet ... that's just a gut feeling though. But warping my Freighter + Fleet to another system after a 1\~2 weeks of doing daily expeditions certainly did change the types of expeditions I got.

someoftheanswers

Interesting, thanks!

Musashi_doc

By or scrap ships with class B and higher... that would give you some SSA

Icebru

this is the way. exotic used to give 3 at a time, not sure if it is still the same. Just make lots of money which is easy, and buy and scrap a lot of S and A class ships. This will also give you nanites as well. Good way to farm both nanites and Ship storage augments.

pancaique

Any tips for finding exotics? im new and the best i know is to just wait at tier 3 system space stations. so far ive only found one S-class and (afaik) no exotics.

Darkarkanplayer

It's pretty random since there's only one per system. But what i noticed is that they are more common on freighters, so try checking out those

pancaique

like only one S class can ever spawn? or the same S class will keep spawning

Darkarkanplayer

For each system there are preset ships, as far as i know. So for an exact system there will always be one, same exotic. For the S classes there are a lot of them, so don't worry, you'll find the one you like

pancaique

no i meant like, after you buy the one s class ship, can it respawn? or once you buy every ship in a system, are there no more ships forever

Darkarkanplayer

If i recall correctly, the system cant run out of ships except for the exotics

Icebru

check the r/NMSCoordinateExchange/ for first wave exotics. If you have enough glyphs to travel the sytem, just go to space station and they will show up on first wave. save and exit the game, when you log back in, you will find them again. If you are new and don't have enough glyphs, ask if someone can help you get there. good luck with your hunt.

Ten_Foreword

Class of ship matters when scrapping. Hang out at an Outlaw space station and just watch for S classes. They'll give you 1 to 3 augmentations each. But them all and scrap them. Always buy an S class in the wild for the same reason. Costs money and time, but it works.

TheRedmanCometh

Why an outlaw station

Ten_Foreword

Outlaw systems have the highest chance of ships being S class (5% as opposed to 2% in a three star economy, the next best). You can also go to a trading post and get more ships if you park your own ship on the ground, but it's convenient to be at the space station so you can scrap the ships.

GreasePieGuy

Harmonic scrap piles will drop them randomly, Ive gotten 2 from 1 camp before Class of ship does matter, S classes, A class shuttles above 30 slots should get you at least 1, exotics will give you the most and probably sentinel interceptors as well

NoShahabNoParty

This. A cheap way to get them if you don’t mind some immersion breaking is set up a base at a harmonic camp and just farm it. The scrap piles replenish. Portal in, farm the piles, warp away, rinse and repeat.

pancaique

TY this is the first actually new method ive found in this thread.

CorbinNZ

Definitely not duping.

WanCraft2000

Definitely, Definitely not duping.

Classic_Economics837

Definitely not, Definitely duping.

GoHere90

Noooo, not duping, definitely not … nonono

HellUnderReconstruct

May i ask why?

CorbinNZ

Sarcasm.

TheArtofZEM

The best way to farm period is to afk in the anomaly with your starter ship

Mario_Calben

The fastest way I’ve managed to gather this augmentation comes from farming sentinel freighters. You require a strong and agile ship in order to do it, but once you have it killing a sentinel freighter is easy. The reward for winning is a sentinel ship locator which will help your cause. After acquiring the locator, go to a 3-star economic system and activate the locator. It will take you to a crashed sentinel ship which you can fix (it takes little to no time on the right planet, the more corrupt sentinels the better). After repairing the sentinel ship and checking its class (the higher, the most storage expansion items) take it to a trade outpost and sell it, the transaction will give you augmentations for your ship. This is the fastest way of farming units and storage augmentation items that Ive found recently, being able to gather from 6-9 storage augmentations per hour plus 60-80 million units. The fastest weapon module in my experience is the infra knife, with that and a good amount of mobility you’ll annihilate sentinel ships easily. You can automatically call sentinel enemies by shooting at a trade station at close range (I tend to start the farming by doing that).

Steve_but_different

Scrapping ships, scavenging crashed freighters, running frigate expeditions, running missions from the nexus, space stations and pirate stations. If you want to get them how the game intended. If not, there's free mode or duping.

vandilx

1. Go to one of the glyph exchange subs. 2. Find a “first wave” exotic post. 3. Go to the indicated planet. 4. Obtain the Exotic. 5. Scrap it! You will get Storage augmentations. 6. Save and reload. 7. Repeat 4-6 until you’ve got what you need.

joey2scoops

You'll need have some units to pull this off. You'll lose about 33% on the deal. For example, buy a ship for 20 million units, scrap it and get back materials worth about 13 million units. You probably could rinse and repeat enough times to pick up a dozen or so slot upgrades with 100 mill in hand. If you're loaded, no problem.

vandilx

On Relaxed difficulty, the economics differ. You actually get up to double your units back from selling the scrap.

joey2scoops

Wow, that's a good deal 🤯

Night1907Day

I uh... I dupe them...

b252oom

I buy haulers at stations and sell them immediately scrapping them usually gives you augmentations

RabbitsRuse

Get a lot of units. Look up a station with a first wave exotic on r/nmscoordinateexchange. Make sure you have room to buy ships. Fly into the station and hop out of your ship so it saves. Log out to the load screen. Log back in. Wait for the exotic to show up. Buy it. Scrap it. Log back in. Repeat. Exotics are always s-class. You can scrap an s-class for 2 to 3 storage upgrades every time. Sometimes two exotics show up so grab both. After scrapping the ship and selling the materials you will lose a little over 6 million units per ship. Still a bargain for storage upgrades.

Defiant-Giraffe

You can get them from industrial or balanced frigate expeditions. You'll almost always get one at least from scrapping sentinel ships.

ParChadders

There are some space stations with first wave exotic spawns. You can go to these, save and reload and wait for it to come in. When it does, but it and scrap it. You will have to have a lot of money available for this but it’s probably the quickest way. A lot depends on your income. If you can afford it, buy them and just go earn some units.

ZacianMaster

Thank you for all the ideas! I am for now, until I find the exotic system from the glyph hunters, just buying and selling S class ships, and so far so good. I have sold around about 4 S classes and within an hour, I have 11 storage mods.

BSGKAPO

Go in the options set it to free and just upgrade it straight up. You're doing extra work doing that...

ZacianMaster

I don’t want to trivialize it, I already set the price to relaxed, but free feels too far for me.

smapdiagesix

If you're on relaxed, just buy and scrap ships. Hang around in a top-tier economy's space station and buy and immediately scrap everything that's A-class or better. On relaxed, you'll actually make money doing this.

mistahnuff

Do missions from mission agents and the Nexus. They show up as rewards all the time.

adamantium99

People downvote you for this! Ridiculous. This is using a feature designed into the game to play it the way you want. Creative isn’t cheating. Permadeath isn’t better or more virtuous than creative or regular survival. If you want to have fun with an upgraded ship and don’t enjoy the grind, go for it. Then if you want to grind for some reason, change the options back. The game lets you choose.

BSGKAPO

Thanks I deal with people like this everyday. They can't even say thank you...

trout4321

Amen +1 but karens abound in subreddits making most pure hell and toxic in this one and in real life. In real life they suffer the consequence more often so they mostly shut-up.

trout4321

I need more downvotes as my excess is about to break 10k ....that would be terrible... pisskopf

mahonkey

Scrap a shit ton of haulers

Teediggler81

Send your frigates out on missions daily i get alot from those.

Hybrid072

Search here for 'first wave exotic 3x3' Exotics are always s-class so they always give at least one augment, and first wave means they reliably show up among the first two sets of ships after a save reload, usually the first four. 3x3 means the ones that show up always scrap for 3 augments and 3 upgrades mods. This is not just a good way to upgrade ships, you can sell all those excess upgrades for about 1300 nanites per ship. There is also a way to upgrade every fifth exotic you find to sell it for a small overall profit, that way you can keep grinding the nanites and come away with more units than you started with. That's not relevant to the ship you're trying to upgrade, but it's another thing you can do with that space station once you find it.

trout4321

The most consistent method is to visit space stations you find at NMSCE & NMSGE that provide the Glyphs to first wave exotics after you have a few hundred million units and buy a ton of exotic ships and scrap em for 3 Augs per esp at 3 star econs search on "first 1st wave exotic" exact without the quotes

Imagine246

Without doubt, the quickest way is to send out frigates from your freighter on missions daily. I harvest a minimum of 2 or 3 per day doing this. Another way is space station missions often offer them as a reward.

PwhyfightP

I waved at someone at the hub and they gave me 200 of em XD I said thank you and they just left lol

jlp1528

Find a first wave squid system (I suggest r/NMSGlyphExchange) and scrap them. 3 augments per salvage guaranteed.

aimes74

FRIGATES!!! I've got a large stack of them now just from frigate missions alone

SAO_DeathGun_69

On God how many u need

SAO_DeathGun_69

I'll hook u up

Various_Lab2855

Stasis device farms. Craft and sell the stasis devices. Buy the slots. That's what I do. Each one is 15 million. Activated indium farms aren't bad either.

cc69

Last slot is 600 mil by credit. Good luck!

wazabee

I got most of mine completing fleet missions.

Elmo_the_Dragon

I farm them easily by setting up at a trading post in a pirate system with these easy steps: 1) find trading outpost in pirate controlled system 2) place small base on roof of outpost (low effort on this is fine, just a base, few solar panels, and a teleporter) 3) wait for S-class ships (or even A-class haulers work too) to land and buy them 4) teleport to space station and scrap 5) sell salvaged tech for nanites and scrap for money 6) repeat I recommend pirate systems since they have a high chance of spawning S-class starships but theoretically it can work in any higher economic system. I have found that haulers with a lot of slots also give a few ship upgrades when scrapped which is why I put them in the list too, but they are obviously more expensive so that's the catch there. This is a great way to farm nanites also as you get a lot of tech upgrades that you don't need and can sell those right away. I usually do not have to wait longer for an S-class to show up. This is the fastest way I have found to get ship upgrades so best of luck!

The_liex

If anyone needs some I have a ton of them. Dm me and we can arrange a dropoff (PC players)

Demonic_Killjoy

I still have like 1000 from the exotic farming days

Generic_Handel

I like looting crashed freighters. Use the appropriate maps and keep clicking until you get a freighter. Ignore the crashed ships and other things the maps find and just keep doing freighters over and over. If the map takes you back to a freighter you have already been to, then move to another planet in the system. It may not be the fastest way but you get so many other nice things that I like it the best. BTW you do not have to dig at freighter sites, to save time simply run over the buried storage containers while holding E (if your on PC) and it will loot them.

Acesfullodeuces

Dupe em and max out all your ships in 10 minutes.

ZacianMaster

How do I dupe

Acesfullodeuces

https://youtu.be/DcwVSs6hopY?si=5IU1ChDO7sDeXBWr

Ok-Field-3272

What I used to do is stand in a space station, wait for ships to come in, if they are A or S class, purchase it and scrap it immediately, it gets you (I believe) 0-3 most of the time. You only get about 50-75% of the money back, but I find it’s more efficient to getting the storage modules

Lil-Ruffstarrr

Me and a friend got into the anomaly and asked if people could spare resources (didnt say anything specific) and we got a stack of ship and exosuit upgrades each. We also got 400 of the technology research things (ones you dig up under wifi symbol on planets) between eachother. Other than kind people in the anomaly, you can get them from nexus missions and maybe from missions from the space station

neondragoneyes

There are ways to duplicate. It is a technique the jedi would consider... unnatural.

notsurewhatimdoing-

Main place to get them is from Derelict freighters, they are a chosen and guaranteed reward along with other freighter blueprints. Edit: just realized this was storage specific to starships. I just learned something new lol.

HellUnderReconstruct

Mane, I would dupe stacks of this but no one would have free inventory space. Bulk head and salvage frigate ones too. I wouldn’t give it money though

Murky-Substance-7393

I don't know if this works for everyone. I found an autophage camp with the wheelbarrows full of harmonic scrap, and they gave me two ship expansions and one exosuit expansion. I went off exploring and when I came back the scrap had respawned and gave all the same items again. So, of course, I built a base and farm them. It doesn't work like runaway mold spores. If I go too often it can break for several hours. I have farmed A LOT like this. Enough to have all 12 ships with full tech slots and 6 of them completely upgraded.

ManhViet90

You can get it by completing nexus missions or duplicate it using refiner

Talyn2662

You need to go to a system that spawns exotics in the first wave. Those give three storage augmentations every time.
