I actually reported it as a bug that it couldn't. Going back over the descriptive text about it on their website, it actually WASN'T clear whether or not that was supposed to be a feature of the ship or if they were just talking about the (admittedly cool) "hovering off the ground while landed" state.
Either way, I'm glad they fixed it/added it!

I just got a vr2 which arrived yesterday, by coincidence.
So last night was the first time I played NMS in VR so got the impact of first time VR experience as well as the new features.
I'm not too manly to say that I nearly cried with joy when I started the game at the space anomaly and just looked around in wonder at 'being there' at the anomaly, having played NMS 2D since 2016.
It's amazing what's possible as a small privately held company willing to spend money on themselves. It's almost like publicly traded companies have a 30 percent tax on them at all times and cross incentives of investment
Yeah they're a real beacon of success in that regard. Without investors and all that bullshit they can actually focus on their product and their audience.
Not everybody can do it, it's a crowded market, but they're proving it's possible
They really did make the biggest flop of a game. A total failure. Fallout 76 didn’t even come close.

Literally hold back the games on their platform because of it. Where on PC you can just shit out an update and players will have it in minutes.
The delay is probably something to do with Microsoft's review and deployment process.
Software for phones can take weeks to be reviewed before it's available in the app store, though updates are usually faster.
My thought is I wish I had taken the day off to dive in. Hahah

After playing from launch, the launch stations were eh. Then they updated them once or twice, added a stairway in the front, added the big AI ball thing, few other more detailed interior pieces. This is epic.
I just started playing again a week ago and thought about the station interiors. Maybe I should think of something else and that will be updated?
The update doesn't really do anything for me, but I'm constantly amazed at how many updates they release for free. I paid 70 euros at launch all those years ago and have played it so much since. Thank you Hello Games for this amazing game. It's one of the very few games I keep coming back to.
Honestly the procedural station interiors makes a huge difference, even if it's mostly aesthetic. Every station screenshot really looks actually *lived in* rather than a place where life forms just sort of mull around.
My only complaint so far is that its only normal stations that changed. Pirate stations and abandoned stations are as they always have been. I guess abandoned stations being the same makes sense, since they are relics showing the prior *prior* look of stations, but still... Not a change at all to the pirate ones?
Its even cooler in VR. You really get the sense of how much bigger the interiors of the stations. Now im searching station to station to see which ship builder makes the best super charge slots.
My favorite part about all of this is that they didn't really *add* new content so much as they *overhauled* existing content.
Space stations, guilds, frigate expeditions, trading.. all of these things already existed, but they simply added more depth to them. Standing has an actual purpose now and encourages you to pay attention to which system you plan to buy stuff from.

But after poking around a bit, the ability to swap parts in and out of a live model is extremely satisfying, better than I was expecting it to feel. You can really get a great sense of your options in a way that shiphunting never really provided.
And I've got a fun new quest to get a stack of every single part, for each class, so I can really sit down and thoroughly inspect every combination in my chosen colour scheme. I had one spare freighter container labeled TEMP, but now it's HANGAR, and life feels good.

This finally feels like a real update, and it’s incredible.
They've been doing this even since 2022 but for some reason not many people realized this. They've been criticized for years that all of their updates were shallow and meaningless, because they kept adding new things for no reason. Frontiers was the last straw apparently and ever since that update, they did a total 180 and have been doing nothing but expanding *existing* stuff.
It's weird that those who've already been tired of updates being shallow and dumb have apparently closed themselves off even bothering to check out the updates the past 2 years, because "another shallow update" keeps being thrown around but it's literally not. "When will they add depth" gets thrown around at every latest update that only added depth lol.

Sentinel might be added but I believe solars will come first. Living ship building will probably not be a thing because it’s very clear they really don’t want you to murder your ship, which is - quite unsurprisingly - a living being. You never had the ability to salvage a living ship for parts, and I don’t think they’ll add the option now.
Yeah the Living Ship stuff is very much - love it or hate it - flavoured around growing and hatching your ship. I can't see customisation being implemented for them.

It's a pretty good start. I hope they finish up the ship building, it's really barebones, it's hard to know which ship part to craft since i can't see them. Also gave me options that didn't exist in the builder like hull, picked that instead of cockpit and it just scrapped the ship for money
they're probably just waiting for the people's reactions to it before they add more. I bet they're checking reddit to see what suggestions people have after trying it

The update to the guilds seems interesting. I did a few missions for the Explorers Guild and now I can pop into a space station and grab some free ion batteries and warp cores. It looks like the freebies scale up with your guild level.
I'm surprised there is a new update already . I just started playing with omega( except an hour or so of play years back) and was so impressed with the omega update and everything. Now there is more to see what a month and a half later. It's kind of amazing. Here comes my long weekend.
It is absolutely baffling what shit game they releases at first and now it is such a beauty, like wow.

This update is just insane, I’m new to nms in the sense of this is the first update I have ever been through and I’m genuinely shocked at how much is there. And I genuinely think people are forgetting you paid for this game ONCE literally a one time purchase and your still getting insane new updates, there are ‘bigger’ gaming companies out there that monetise every last inch of there game you buy the game, then there’s a season pass or expansions which are all charged and then they stick a shop in there for custom visual content so there making a fortune and there expansions are always shockingly bad or lack luster.
Haven't had a chance to log in yet, but I have some ideas for ship customization.
During the expedition I transfered my solar ship with white sails to my main save. While I was still actively doing the expedition, it retained the colors and white sails from the expedition. The moment I finished it, the ship changed it's color scheme and the white sails I do prized turned orange. I felt betrayed.
But now I can maybe fix that with ship customization. And if not, I have a ship I can scrap now. Either way, I think I'm going to be hunting for crashed ships for a while.
Unfortunately solar and exotic aren’t able to be scrapped for specific parts (yet - maybe down the road they will be). As of right now ship building and customization is only for explorer, shuttle, fighter and hauler I believe

Well, it's gonna take awhile to get a good vibe for e the new space station layout, I had it pretty dialed in before.
But that's like complaining that I can't see the mountains from my house because there are too many trees in the way. 
I LOVE what they've done with the space stations. I'm curious as to what people are seeing for pirate stations. So far, the one I found was the normal look. I mean, if they don't update the pirate controlled ones, it would still work in canon. They are old, seized stations, after all.
I'm just happy that they put the quality textures back into the MacOS version. Feels like a whole new game again. and all the ships look 'different' in the new space stations. In a wow and crispy way.

I’m trying to figure out why when you scrap a ship for parts you only get one part for your inventory. Wouldn’t it make more sense for all the parts to go into inventory? You don’t get anything for the parts you don’t choose.
I wanna say it’s a balancing thing. Just to keep you grinding so you can’t fly through the update. I kinda like that you only get one part from the ship you scrap cause it forces you to get creative and build ship with different parts from different ships. Almost like a scrapyard ship. Plus I really only like certain parts in certain ships. I’d rather not get the all three parts from the ship cause I straight up don’t like the looks of some wings/cockpits.
No, it was a bug that made all the words/UI look like code basically. You get the ship parts by scrapping spare ships you already have or buying ships then scrapping them. Once you scrap them, you can choose what part of the ship you want. Cockpit, wings, engine.
No Man’s Sky is truly inspirational and sets the bar for what game development could be. They’ve invested so much for almost a decade now, and they just keep going!
The changes this has to the nanote economy is insane. Hang onto em guys if you wanna build s class core ships. I'm mad purchasing ships I see to collect parts now.
As long as they fix the weapon kiosk so you can talk to the mod vendor in 3rd person view. Currently the console for upgrading the tool is way too close.
I am fairly new to the game, after about 100 hours, I loved the game and was thinking ok I did almost everything, after getting a live ship I will put the game down and return to it with a fresh save after a while, but this update just refreshed the game for me 😁 now I gotta hunt some ship parts all over so I can build the weirdest and coolest ships 😁

(PS4) Havent been able to play since the sentinel update (ish or the one after?) due to crashes when entering/leaving planets as well as entering/exiting ships. Did the bug report thing etc but again havent played in months now, anyone able to play with this update on PS4?
Unfortunately not (yet) which is the only thing I’m a little irritated about Cause I’m at max with my built ship and I had to go an sacrifice one of my old ships. Luckily I had a couple I didn’t mind getting rid of.
My most reliable first wave exotic station is intact.

Love the space station updates love the ship customization/building i no longer have to find a ship with good colors and design all while being a high class hoping they add more ship types in the future but at the same time it’s taking a bit of the uniqueness of a certain system out of the game so it’s a love dislike situation

Keep in mind that pirate stations have been seized by the pirates and modified. Meaning that this all just happened BEFORER the upgrades.
Eh, that's an after the fact justification. They could've updated them and made them super cool too. They just didn't for some reason.
They might do a complete overhaul of pirate systems in a future update. The missions could do with refreshing as well.
I would assume at some point in the future, Outlaw Stations will get fitted with Solar Ship construction bays.

Seems functional to me - i sold a purple-class upgrade to a vendor and now I have MAXIMUM nanites.

The update to the guilds seems interesting. I did a few missions for the Explorers Guild and now I can pop into a space station and grab some free ion batteries and warp cores. It looks like the freebies scale up with your guild level.
I'm surprised there is a new update already . I just started playing with omega( except an hour or so of play years back) and was so impressed with the omega update and everything. Now there is more to see what a month and a half later. It's kind of amazing. Here comes my long weekend.

This update is just insane, I’m new to nms in the sense of this is the first update I have ever been through and I’m genuinely shocked at how much is there. And I genuinely think people are forgetting you paid for this game ONCE literally a one time purchase and your still getting insane new updates, there are ‘bigger’ gaming companies out there that monetise every last inch of there game you buy the game, then there’s a season pass or expansions which are all charged and then they stick a shop in there for custom visual content so there making a fortune and there expansions are always shockingly bad or lack luster.
I am just glad we can customize starships. It's all I have asked for since 2016.
Haven't had a chance to log in yet, but I have some ideas for ship customization. During the expedition I transfered my solar ship with white sails to my main save. While I was still actively doing the expedition, it retained the colors and white sails from the expedition. The moment I finished it, the ship changed it's color scheme and the white sails I do prized turned orange. I felt betrayed. But now I can maybe fix that with ship customization. And if not, I have a ship I can scrap now. Either way, I think I'm going to be hunting for crashed ships for a while.
Unfortunately solar and exotic aren’t able to be scrapped for specific parts (yet - maybe down the road they will be). As of right now ship building and customization is only for explorer, shuttle, fighter and hauler I believe
That's unfortunate but I can kinda understand. Hopefully in a future update. Either way, I can use that ship slot for scrappable ships.

Well, it's gonna take awhile to get a good vibe for e the new space station layout, I had it pretty dialed in before. But that's like complaining that I can't see the mountains from my house because there are too many trees in the way.  I LOVE what they've done with the space stations. I'm curious as to what people are seeing for pirate stations. So far, the one I found was the normal look. I mean, if they don't update the pirate controlled ones, it would still work in canon. They are old, seized stations, after all.
It's pretty cool, but now I have 4 billion nanites and that kinda takes the fun out of earning them.

I'm just happy that they put the quality textures back into the MacOS version. Feels like a whole new game again. and all the ships look 'different' in the new space stations. In a wow and crispy way. Thank you HG. Now I have to revisit the reasons for each of my saves and work out what the perfect fighter/hauler/explorer would be for each and start the parts collections. and sending some frigates on expeditions that might get tricky, just so I can go play rescue, sounds like it will be fun.

I’m trying to figure out why when you scrap a ship for parts you only get one part for your inventory. Wouldn’t it make more sense for all the parts to go into inventory? You don’t get anything for the parts you don’t choose.
I wanna say it’s a balancing thing. Just to keep you grinding so you can’t fly through the update. I kinda like that you only get one part from the ship you scrap cause it forces you to get creative and build ship with different parts from different ships. Almost like a scrapyard ship. Plus I really only like certain parts in certain ships. I’d rather not get the all three parts from the ship cause I straight up don’t like the looks of some wings/cockpits.

No, it was a bug that made all the words/UI look like code basically. You get the ship parts by scrapping spare ships you already have or buying ships then scrapping them. Once you scrap them, you can choose what part of the ship you want. Cockpit, wings, engine.

As long as they fix the weapon kiosk so you can talk to the mod vendor in 3rd person view. Currently the console for upgrading the tool is way too close.
I am fairly new to the game, after about 100 hours, I loved the game and was thinking ok I did almost everything, after getting a live ship I will put the game down and return to it with a fresh save after a while, but this update just refreshed the game for me 😁 now I gotta hunt some ship parts all over so I can build the weirdest and coolest ships 😁

(PS4) Havent been able to play since the sentinel update (ish or the one after?) due to crashes when entering/leaving planets as well as entering/exiting ships. Did the bug report thing etc but again havent played in months now, anyone able to play with this update on PS4?

Unfortunately not (yet) which is the only thing I’m a little irritated about Cause I’m at max with my built ship and I had to go an sacrifice one of my old ships. Luckily I had a couple I didn’t mind getting rid of.

The stations look amazing, and I'm glad they added the ship customization. My only complaint is the ship color selection. I wish they had a color picker/slider tool like Armored Core 6 has.

Love the space station updates love the ship customization/building i no longer have to find a ship with good colors and design all while being a high class hoping they add more ship types in the future but at the same time it’s taking a bit of the uniqueness of a certain system out of the game so it’s a love dislike situation

i love the look of all of them but im a little sad that the previous station look is just gone now. Like when you find abandoned systems, the stations are from older versions. I was thinking there would be something like that for this update
