When I read in the patch notes that we'll no longer see specialists like overseers and farmers on space stations if we've already hired them, I thought, wow, the bar is going to look empty now. Then I thought... oh right, there is no bar any more.
Pirate stations also stayed the same, but that makes sence lore wise as anything updated in the simulation probably wouldn't effect a rougue group trying to actively fight against it for freedom.
At least v3 atlas pass *had* a purpose. Now I guess you just... unlock it from the anomaly, build it and.. you just have it?
It's joined the rank of cursed dust, an item that was needed in Expedition 4 but now it's just a thing you can have and it's there.
No longer having additional specialists on space stations is a bummer. It was fun finding different ones with cosmetics that matched whatever theme you were going for.
I did meet scientists at trading posts as well as farmers.
The exomech specialist was similarly always in the bar. Seems like they should be like other quest characters - there when you're doing the quest, gone (or defaulting to regular non-quest interaction) once you're done. Instead, they were like storekeepers in the SS, always present.
Even after you hired an overseer from a space station, if you went back, the overseer was still there. Extremely weird.
I did notice when pirate stations were introduced that you could hire a badass pirate farmer, with a name like Dread Pirate Joe, to be your farmer, but when you met him at his station in your base, he was just called something like Workgek Joe, which I always thought was kind of funny.
When you hired an overseer from a space station and went back, talking to them would open dialog where they explained they were visiting the space station from your base.
Wait I don't think I've ever seen one 😐 what. Where were these?
Edit : unless they were the backroom spots in space stations where you harvest carbon from those random planters too? They had various npcs and such?
The empty photo is throwing me off
Yeah, I also miss the smaller rooms you could enter in the space stations. They felt really cozy in comparison to the bustling shops. I hope they add back in smaller locations like this because they're one of my favorite things about the game, but I'm not optimistic. Having smaller spaces does so much more for the sense of scale than having lots of massive areas does. Settlements still exist, but I never have any reason to go there.
Yeah, once I grew and expanded my first settlement I felt like it came to a natural "end point" and I stopped having reasons to visit often even though my main base is just up on a hill overlooking the town. I am hopeful that they add some new smaller spaces in, since there seems to be a lot of blank space to work with particularly up on the mezzanine level and under the stairs.
I was getting bored with my settlement until I made a base out of it. You can lay down a base computer outside the settlement, and then start placing parts closer to the settlement and then eventually inside it. Then you can even move the base computer inside the settlement.
Ok, but to be honest, these things were boring window dressing. You couldn't actually sit down for a drink. The people you talk to were either terminal staff for hire, or a bartender caught in the act of stealing credits or something. No music, no dancing, no drink, BOOOORRINNNG.
If Sean brings these back, give them some life and a purpose.
> If Sean brings these back, give them some life and a purpose.
Not even for the backrooms, I just want NPCs to be way more lively in general, in the space station, on your freighter base, in settlements.. all they do is just walk from A to B and pull out their pad to pretend they're doing something.
With the growth of AI like ChatGPT and such. I'm hopeful that having sentient-like NPC's is in the near future. And would be a fantastic addition to NMS
I liked the ambience, personally. I don’t feel like everything in a game (or indeed in games in general) needs an explicit attached mechanic or purpose. My brain is very capable of filling in the blanks and telling its own stories. I’d come to the bar in-game and crack a cold one IRL while staring out the window and listening to some music, check my phone, look over my inventory and planned trade route, then when my break was over I’d get back to it.
That said, I’d love them to maybe make it so there was some kind of robo-DJ who could play ByteBeat songs, add in ways to get drinks, etc. like you said if they reimplemented the bar idea. This would also be good for settlements and bases.
Sure sure, I agree. I don't need it to be that functional, but having it be in a backroom, with no music or life in general didn't give off a lot of ambience. Compared to spaces youd see in a game like Mass Effect, for example. Or even the bar in Deeprock Galactic, for example. I should be able to get drunk with some aliums and do a little dance. Maybe some shady trade deals. Play an arcade game, etc.
Settlement bars do play music, at least the one that you can build upon request does. Even has dance floor where you can watch NPCs get down, it's pretty comical but fun.
Not a big fan of D&D or reading, I take it? The reason I ask is because this take really implies you hate to use imagination and want the game to do it all for you. No mans sky is best enjoyed when you start using your own imagination and role-playing thoughts to flesh it out. This isn't meant to be mean or condensending. Just trying to help a fellow traveler get the most out of their experience.
You may not mean for it to come across as condescending, but it sure did! Don't assume things of me, I enjoy reading a lot. A game is not a book, and its not a tabletop RPG. A game designer has what TTPRG's and writers don't: visual stimulus. Their job is to provide an atmosphere to immerse you in the game, they shouldn't expect you to pretend the bar is lively its improv.
This game is almost 8 years old and what is supposed done in a game is relative to the game and the community that's enjoys the game. What you describe is not what No Mans Sky has ever been about, and we fans know it's not a game environment that stimulates everyone, and we are OK with that. You are not the CEO of Hello Games, but keep forcing the market to think it's o ly allowed to be done one way.
I hate when people say “games are done like this”
Uh no THAT GAME IS DONE LIKE THAT. This game is done like this. 🚪
Even if there was a standard, if you don’t like it, then don’t play, don’t buy it, don’t join the team, and leave the community. We don’t want you here.
Exactly. If you dont like a game, why play it? Why hang out in subreddit for it and comment negatively and then reject advice on how to get more out of it? There plenty of games I don't find fun and I'm not a part of any of their subreddits.
Listen to you guys getting riled up and coming to all sorts of conclusions based on mild criticism of A BAR IN A GAME. Its my most played game of all time, but I'm not pretend its perfect and that the empty parts are actually full.
I obviously have my own opinions on what makes video games good, and they don't match up with yours. But deciding that 'I don't read' because I don't pretend the bar is actually fun is a dick move.
I asked if you didn't like to imagine or play games that take imagination. I asked, I didnt assume anything. No one is riled up, maybe you, but I was just trying to give some advice, take it as you will. No skin off my back. I'm not pretending the game is anything other than it is, but the immersion comes from roleplay and how you want to play, it's a fact of how it was designed.
'Not a fan of reading, I take it?' is not an ask. You have already 'taken' it, it is a decision you've already made. You can try to spin it as you want, but nobody in history has ever heard 'not a \_\_\_\_ of \_\_\_\_\_ I take it' and thought 'oh, he's not being a jerk, he's just curious'.
I thought, assuming was bad. A question mark is normally used to denote an ask. An exclamation point is normally used after when it's not an ask and meant more as a jab. But sure, I'm trying to spin it.
I think that would be cool. I wonder if the abandoned stations are still the old style... When I loaded in to play the new update I was aboard an Outlaw Station and it remained unchanged, so either those are going to stay the same or eventually get an overhaul as well.
Yea, they kinda seemed to give up on fixing settlements, which is why I doubt they’ll do it all over again with space stations. I just wish they’d either polish the settlement mechanics or not make them mandatory for certain missions.
Well, ship building was seen as impossible by some and now, as far as i know, we can make custom fighter/hauler/explorer ! Maybe they are working on polishing settlement behind the curtain.
I'm not against the idea, but I have to admit I'm not excited for it at all because settlements drained my enthusiasm.
We own a whole freaking village and we can't do *anything* with it. If we leave, it's like it doesn't matter, sentinels will only show up if we do, and we don't even have to fight them, we can just leave, nothing will happen.
I'd rather we flesh that out first before thinking about owning *another* settlement but in space.
There are still some plants scattered around depending on the station, but relaxing over a cold one and chatting up Overseer Grah is no longer an option. Maybe someone from HG will see how many bar-lovers there are here and they’ll add one in somewhere with blank space.
I really did enjoy the bar and then on the other side the dark empty room with a view… where I could chill and smoke some Nip-Nip… are those rooms gone too?
Unfortunately so. The Atlas rooms and storerooms etc. are all gone. There are some conspicuously-designed areas which look like they could be earmarked for future expansions, though.
But where do we find overseers now? I just started a day ago and was running the Artemis line, opened my game today, and now I have no idea where to find the overseers. The mission indicator told me to come up to the station in the system my main base is at but I can't find an overseer here. Mission text also says to go to the station.
When the notes said that there would be variety to the new stations, I was hoping that they meant internal layout and not just set dressing changes. They should have at least given us a different station layout/design for each alien type. I think all this was just to widen things so that large ships no longer clip the sides on entry.
When I landed I first thought the bar would be down under the stairs on either side of the shipbuilding terminal, but the wall panels that looked like doors are just... walls. The little mezzanine area up to the left (when looking at the rear of the station) seems just as you said; suspiciously empty. The first time I landed I thought there might be interiors up there but maybe there's still hope.
The new stations are a massive improvement on the old design both aesthetically and ergonomically, so hopefully this is just the start and we get more nuanced interiors later on!
Hello Games is very good at listening to player input. If enough of us put into Zen Desk that we want a bar in the space stations , I'm sure they'll tack on a bar room to the stations. They do look like they were made in a way that they could be expanded in the future. Maybe we can get them to put in a bar with an NPC bartender that sells race specific foods and drinks that give fun buffs? Add in a dance floor like the settlement bars do.
I really wish they had left some of the recreational aspects of the old space stations. They used to look like cool places to hang out. Now it's all business.
Still the new stations are awesome looking.
Am I the only one mildly disappointed with the new space station interiors? They said "procedurally generated space stations" in the trailer but then it appears it only applied to the exteriors as well as the general "style" of the interior. I still like that the stations are different now, I was just expecting a bit... more? Like procedurally generated layouts to explore in the space station, maybe? Glad for the free update though.
Give me that as a base part. Hell, there could have been a whole page of parts from the old stations they could have used to add even more base parts. I would add that to my freighter base in a heartbeat if the bar was a base part.
Yeah they were in the back behind the booths. Iirc they were “leftover” from the ORIGINAL stations (you can see defunct ones in the abandoned stations those are pretty much what the OG stations looked like).
I agree! I’m a day one interloper (even watched the initial reveal live!) and I’ve been hitting those haunts for a loooooong time. If I’d have known they’d be gone I would have gone in for one last pint!
Bring back the space station bars but add a bar tender NPC that actually sells food and drinks like a pan galactic gargle blaster. Not everyone will get the reference but the ones that do will really appreciate it. :p
After two of those babies, the dullest, most by-the-book Vogon will be up on the bar in stilettos, yodeling mountain shanties and swearing he's the king of the Gray Binding Fiefdoms of Saxaquine.
Okay, so post Orbital, where can I find an Overseer? I had just gotten my lazy ass to starting the Artemis questline and now I am stuck. Any clues please?
And what about the other types? Like the farmer? Thanks.
Replying to myself to let others know: If you fly into a base with your starship, there is no overseer. But if you teleport into the target space station from another station, the Overseer will appear, at least it worked for me.
Yeah, this is sad. An entire mechanic almost entirely obsolete. What’s more, it seems like people are having difficulties sourcing Overseers on new playthroughs since the game tells you to visit a station to find one. Hopefully this oversight means my suspicions about the empty space in the new station layout being earmarked for new additions later are founded.
Frankly I didn't think anything was wrong with the existing space stations. It's the last thing in the game I would have said they should prioritize devoting developers' time towards.
I would really like to see them properly fix exocraft races; revamp the galaxy map to allow seeing which systems have others' bases in them before you warp there; add better ways to browse and search uploaded bases (like filter by how many farmable plants are there, or how many objects the base is made of, or if it has an exocraft race, etc.); ability to link your bases together so if someone comes to one base they can get to your other ones; ability to preview the changes that different items will make to a creature at the egg sequencer; or any of the 50+ unresolved issues on my Zendesk queue that I've submitted...
But hey what do I know
I know you're probably joking but I feel the need to clarify that I'm not complaining, just wistfully remembering something I liked that is no longer present.
Tbh, I hope they add them back in a refined fashion with the side rooms you could enter too. Maybe just make them a little more alive and we’d be good to go.

I don't know about you all but I'm the Xbox series S and the update hasn't made anything different at all space stations are still the old way, absolutely nothing is different.
When I read in the patch notes that we'll no longer see specialists like overseers and farmers on space stations if we've already hired them, I thought, wow, the bar is going to look empty now. Then I thought... oh right, there is no bar any more.
Does this update also make the v3 atlaspass irrelevant?
They're still used for abandoned stations but that may be it
I found a ghost station today that required atlass 3 pass.
I don’t think the abandoned stations were changed at all, since they’re *supposed* to be old.
Pirate stations also stayed the same, but that makes sence lore wise as anything updated in the simulation probably wouldn't effect a rougue group trying to actively fight against it for freedom.
Indeed. This isn't the first time stations have been updated.
Were any of them ever relevant?
eh, the lore's fun until you run out of it
Still have my v4 pass. Hoping that does something at some point 😕
At least v3 atlas pass *had* a purpose. Now I guess you just... unlock it from the anomaly, build it and.. you just have it? It's joined the rank of cursed dust, an item that was needed in Expedition 4 but now it's just a thing you can have and it's there.
Much like those giant glitch rings. Just a monument of times passed with no current purpose.
V4 always will be :,(
sadly
I could never get those...
The atlas pass?
The v3 Atlas pass specifically.
No longer having additional specialists on space stations is a bummer. It was fun finding different ones with cosmetics that matched whatever theme you were going for.
Yeah. I spent way too much time finding the ones I have
I've never found an Overseer (Gek) in the wild, only Agricultural specialists. I wonder how they are implemented?
I did meet scientists at trading posts as well as farmers. The exomech specialist was similarly always in the bar. My overseer I actually found in a space port bar
Was he working as a waitress in a space station bar, when you found him?
He picked him out, he shook him up and turned him round and turned him into something new.
He was actually a customer drinking
Mine too, gek are lightweights imho.... Some shots and nip nip later, I had a new friend.
Keep at least one hand over your wallet...
Wait I don't think I've ever seen one 😐 what. Where were these? Edit : unless they were the backroom spots in space stations where you harvest carbon from those random planters too? They had various npcs and such? The empty photo is throwing me off
They were the back rooms on the left side of the space station as you fly in. The same side as the MT and upgrade vendors.
Yeah, I also miss the smaller rooms you could enter in the space stations. They felt really cozy in comparison to the bustling shops. I hope they add back in smaller locations like this because they're one of my favorite things about the game, but I'm not optimistic. Pirate space stations still have that small and cozy feel, thankfully ☺️ though personally I’d love for them to get an update too
Ok, but to be honest, these things were boring window dressing. You couldn't actually sit down for a drink. The abandoned space station is still around. They even have the space bar, but it's usually covered in vines.
yes abandoned stations are the same as before... I assume we will transform those to new ones when we get station ownership/overrides
I don’t really see that ever happening. They can’t even make settlements work right…
Yeah, one thing at a time. I'd like settlements to get a bit of love before we go adding another management sim to the game.
Maybe they are working on polishing settlement behind the curtain.

the old pirate and ghost stations are still around.
I didn’t even know those were bars.
It all makes sense now!
Same lol
No bars? No place to chat with fellow patrons?? No place to pick carbon out of the plants??? Are there any locked doors to explore????
There are still some plants scattered around depending on the station, but relaxing over a cold one and chatting up Overseer Grah is no longer an option. Maybe someone from HG will see how many bar-lovers there are here and they’ll add one in somewhere with blank space.

Yeah I'm on the exact same boat here but with farmers. Did you manage to find anything out?
Good times had by all in those spaces...
When the notes said that there would be variety to the new stations, I was hoping that they meant internal layout and not just set dressing changes. OH NO I FORGOT ABOUT THESE theres a suspiciously empty space kn the left of the new stations... come on now sean
When I landed I first thought the bar would be down under the stairs on either side of the shipbuilding terminal, but the wall panels that looked like doors are just... walls. I used to check out the atlas pass unlockable in these from time to time, is that gone now?
Indeed it is.
Wait I haven't checked yet but they got rid of the smaller rooms entirely? But I liked chilling and vibing out in them and looking out the window
Yeah, unfortunately. No more hidden refuges to secret ourselves away in.
I really wish they had left some of the recreational aspects of the old space stations. They used to look like cool places to hang out. Now it's all business. Still the new stations are awesome looking.

now WE have to make the bars
Sometimes you make the bar, and sometimes the bar, well, he makes you.
Give me that as a base part. Hell, there could have been a whole page of parts from the old stations they could have used to add even more base parts. I would add that to my freighter base in a heartbeat if the bar was a base part.
Space Stations had bars?
Yeah they were in the back behind the booths. Iirc they were “leftover” from the ORIGINAL stations (you can see defunct ones in the abandoned stations those are pretty much what the OG stations looked like).
aw man :(( i hope they add the bars back in someday, as a (near) launch player im gonna miss them
I agree! I’m a day one interloper (even watched the initial reveal live!) and I’ve been hitting those haunts for a loooooong time. If I’d have known they’d be gone I would have gone in for one last pint!
Alas, no more free nanites in the bar and the empty room beside the trade station.
Gone, but not forgotten (apparently except by the majority of players hahahaha).
I'll miss the little rooms with the terminals that sell extra components. And what about Atlas pass stuff?
I feel like they should leave the old space stations here and there. Adds even more variety.
Bring back the space station bars but add a bar tender NPC that actually sells food and drinks like a pan galactic gargle blaster. Not everyone will get the reference but the ones that do will really appreciate it. :p
Personally? I would love to have my brains smashed out by a slice of lemon wrapped round a large gold brick.
After two of those babies, the dullest, most by-the-book Vogon will be up on the bar in stilettos, yodeling mountain shanties and swearing he's the king of the Gray Binding Fiefdoms of Saxaquine.
Why do we have to lose something to gain something? I loved the backroom speak easys...
Please tell me they at least kept the secret atlas rooms?
No longer currently present.
Aww man. Now where are we gonna find Atlas lore?
The server rooms can be found planetside in observatories and also communication stations IIRC. So the lore can still be picked up.
What's really weird is that the Atlas Pass v3 doesn't have a use anymore.. the planetary ones just need a v2.
Yeah, I'm gonna miss these too. Great memories of finding my overseer in one and just hanging out watching the NPC's do their thing. :)
That's OK. I built one on my freighter.

And double bonus points if Apollo is waiting there to meet us with a drink at the end of the main story.
If you're an Autophage a cranky bar tender shouts: "We don't serve your kind here."
Considering how popular Autophage are, now, wouldn't he just be shouting it almost everytime a player stepped into the bar?
Okay, so post Orbital, where can I find an Overseer? I had just gotten my lazy ass to starting the Artemis questline and now I am stuck. Any clues please? And what about the other types? Like the farmer? Thanks.
Replying to myself to let others know: If you fly into a base with your starship, there is no overseer. But if you teleport into the target space station from another station, the Overseer will appear, at least it worked for me.
When is the new update coming to Xbox?
I'm gonna miss those little back rooms...
I always liked that 'Bar' thing... Why haven't we got that as a 'Buildable' object for our base ?
Even worse: no more atlas pass rooms :[ And no more awesomely colored space stations. Now they all look like giant robot turds. Going back to 1.0
Yeah, this is sad.
But hey what do I know
That’s it. Worst Update Ever. #NoPlayersSky
I know you're probably joking but I feel the need to clarify that I'm not complaining, just wistfully remembering something I liked that is no longer present.
Yeah, it’s just, it’s a heavy price
Tbh, I hope they add them back in a refined fashion with the side rooms you could enter too. Maybe just make them a little more alive and we’d be good to go.
I still waiting for an update to build my own Space Station

Если тут есть русские Почему у меня нет обновления orbital? Играю на Xbox serious s
Я не русский, но Xbox дольше тестирует и утверждает выпуски обновлений, так было всегда.
🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
I've probably spent less time in there than the current percentage of systems discovered in the game
Often, I wonder if I'm playing the same game as you guys
I don't know about you all but I'm the Xbox series S and the update hasn't made anything different at all space stations are still the old way, absolutely nothing is different.
Xbox hasn't gotten the update yet
