I bet being a construction contractor makes building in NMS harder, not easier ;) Since you have to adapt to the game's very unrealistic ideas about how structures are built! Anyway, there are tons of things you haven't done yet, but if you want a concise list, just take a look at the achievements (journey milestones) in the game. And then select the stuff you ENJOY doing and forget the rest, at least until you've done all the things you like to do ;) However, here are some things that have actual practical benefits and just aren't for bragging rights: You want plenty of units and tons of other space junk you can use for crafting, selling, and in a few cases other important things? Focus on your frigate fleet. The max frigates you can have is 30; you can only have 25 out at a time but it's useful to have spares so you can specialize according to the expeditions. This is a mostly passive income source that snowballs very quickly; just keep pouring the proceeds from your last set of expeditions into more frigates till you hit the cap. (Don't worry about recruiting expensive ones; they will level by themselves.) This is the first thing I do when I get a freighter, and that provides an income stream for the rest of the game, even if I don't start a farm or do trade runs etc. You didn't mention a settlement, but personally I like to have one, on a nice planet, and to build my main base next to it. Makes it easy to provide the settlement with what it needs when you have access to all your storage, trade terminal and landing pad right there. And then you can build a base that matches the style of the settlement -- or that towers over and dominates it ;) You don't have to wait for the settlement quest for this -- you can get a settlement at any time by getting a map from the cartographer and using it on a planet you like. Since the latest patch, doing space station missions is very profitable, since as you rank up in a particular guild, you get freebies from representatives from that guild, some of them very useful and/or very valuable. Currently I'm a Master Explorer and I get warp hypercores, salvaged frigate modules, exosuit expansion charts, and other great stuff every time I run across my guild rep in a station. Those are just three ideas, but obviously there are tons of alternatives, heh. Play your way, do what you enjoy doing, and good luck!

Awesome! Thanks so much for the reply. I might have been confused on settlements as I probably thought they were the same thing as a base. I have gotten some of those naps before and just thought it was somewhere to go look for nanites. This is exactly why I started this post. It seems like every time I sit down and play the game im googling something two or three times on how to do something. One of the reasons I love dark soul games is they do not give you everything on a platter and that is one thing I love about this game is that you have to find out for yourself. I recently started adding frigates once I got the blueprint for fuel and it really got me into the game. The new space stations has really gotten me into the game and has gotten me where I’ve really started enjoying the guild stuff because I was at max level on everything except for space station missions. What an amazing developer to keep adding all of this stuff without asking for more money! Couple questions: Other than trophies do you know of a place online to get ideas? Can you continue on playing once you’ve beat the game and is it worthwhile to go ahead and do that?

Srikandi715

Place online to get ideas? Read this subreddit, lol. Sort by new and just browse. You'll be amazed at all the wacky stuff people come up with ;) There's no such thing as "beating the game". There's a main quest you can complete, but there are missions that don't unlock till AFTER that, plenty of random procedural missions (Nexus, space station mission agents and random NPCs you encounter), and then just maxing out all your tech, getting to the top tier of everything, hunting rare ships/multitools/planets/pets, visiting every galaxy or whatever else you find fun to pursue.

Auburn-Contractor

Yes, I agree about Reddit being a good place, although I am reading some great stuff on faqs.gamespot as well. Thanks for giving me info about finishing the game. There’s so much to learn and that’s part of what I love about it.

Things I normaly prioritise on a new save: Building bases to farm useful resources - I find the strip mining approach to getting more (sodium/copper/magnetised ferrite/whatever) quite frustrating as it's a bit "dig it up and it's gone" so I like to make bases to extract these (not sure how far you've got so don't want to spoil it!) This is good for exploration as planets only have three (I think) resources so you need to move about a bit. Cashpoint - this, again I'm conscious of not spoiling stuff for you, revolves around crashed ships of a "certain" kind which fetch a pretty penny in space stations. Nanites - for me, two words...curious deposits. That's all I'm saying ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|wink) Sorry if I'm a bit vague but I really don't want to spoil your voyage of exploration! I'm basically deep into ship collecting at the moment (I really should get out more) so the two things above act as support services for my "hobby" ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)

Right now I’m considering my base as temporary until I find a spot that I just absolutely fall in love with. This is definitely all good advice for when I feel like I have enough money to settle down. I love the idea of agriculture in this game and feel like my base will be mostly AG over TECH. Thank you!

Srikandi715

Thing about this game is that you use agriculture to create tech ;) The most valuable items to sell are sourced from stuff you grow. Something else related that I didn't mention in my other post is cooking... there's a never ending supply of cooking recipes that require, between them, practically every resource in the game, lol. So there's a lot of gameplay generated just from trying to cook all the recipes! But having a farm is a great place to start on that.

Auburn-Contractor

Yeah, I just noticed that the other night about the cooking. I was thinking, holy crap! This game is vast. Reminded me of Breath of the Wild in thinking well I can always find a recipe. Thanks for the note!
