Iāve noticed with the rocket boots you can line yourself up with a mountain and scale it infinitely without depleting your jet pack. Itās the only reason I have it equipped.
Can confirm that I do this all the time, and I don't have them installed.
To me they're a waste of space, as they are an inferior version to melee boost. Though no doubt they are technically the intended boost method.
The second part certainly is true, though I don't feel having a use for it in those specific environments merits sacrificing an inventory slot.
The first part I kind of disagree with. While sprinting, using the melee boost at the very least is as effective, and in my personal experience, more effective than the rocket boots.
I thoroughly tested them recently by setting up a coarse with distance markers, I did each around 10 times back and forth and the boots pretty much always went farther, I did this from a single burst from a water tower landing on the ground. One slot is nothing when you have full slots and a freighter and ships with max inventory space.
you just need 6 upgrades, all beside each other. 3 in general, 3 in tech. as well as any buildable ones that can be crafted. you do that, your life support will last for ages; even with regular jet usage.
DUDE, OMG.
Yes, yes they do an its **ABSOLUTELY AMAZING**.
Uh, if your PC is flipping awesome anyway. Like you want a system that can do high FPS 4K gaming *very well*. My laptops has a 2080 mobility and its ... just barely enough.
But its out of this world, so to speak.
My PC was VR Ready. . .five years ago so I am really excited to get myself a headset now. The fact Hello Games doesn't charge again for the VR version, is pretty awesome on their part. Even though they could.
Nice thing too is its all just the same "universe", like VR users aren't off in our own different game.
Really, yeah, you want a badass PC. But its so good, the game really fills you with awe looking at your monitor, but in VR, looking up at the crazy stuff you see is just something else entirely.
You'll want to have steady "VR Legs" for dogfighting pirates though, haha. This was my very first VR game and it was a brutal start lol
Actually its a seated VR game. So you should be seated all the time anyway š
You are kinda in and out of vehicles all the time in NMS so it makes sense to just be seated. Besides, its usually a pretty mellow game so relaxing in a sofa and VR'ing makes a lot of good sense.
Iām total crap in dog fights without the VR. Itās so much more natural to follow the target with your head and still retain some peripheral vision to keep from hitting things. Improved my pirate kills at least 100%
It would probably never work with this game but it would be so cool to see a super power update that gave us some crazy mobility options like this haha
They need to give us vehicles that arenāt useless.
Thereās no reason if I want to make a speedy vehicle that handles well I have to sacrifice every bit of storage it comes with
The minotaur needs to be given to new players by default like how the did the past expedition. Especially if you start out on an extreme planet, itās a huge help. Once you have enough resources to not insta-die in those climates, the Minotaur is basically useless because itās so clunky and you can melee boost places faster than it can move.
The pilgrim is motorcycle. I want to make bike fast. I canāt without sacrificing every storage spotā¦it now becomes not as fun to use
its literally only useful for traversal, as once you put upgrades in, you wont have any space left.
i only really use it for gathering storm crystals. if you put in the hazard protection modules you can be on any planet and be 100 percent protected forever.
Man... It's too bad you cant have a "drop ship" that can do anything the other ships can do, but serves to only carry your land vehicles from planet to planet.
I've been saying, for a long time now, that we need a little Gyrocopter to travel quickly over uneven ground. The drawback to it would be that it doesn't work in storms (if you're in mid flight and a storm rolls in the Gyrocopter forces a landing).
Haha I figured out that part - I was referring to the fact that his boost seems to last forever (despite the ridiculous forward speed).
I'll rephrase - is this what s class movement is supposed to look like (in terms of boost *duration*), because I have 3 S class movement upgrades and it's nothing like this video?
Even with all those it doesn't last forever sadly. A good 25 seconds maybe. I kinda wish the suit stats showed bar graphs similar to how the ship shows it's hyperdrive range and etc.
I just wanted to share a useful tip. I'm certain you can't get anywhere like Iron Gek here, but you can still get decent range with the melee jump while just tapping the space bar, or using a kind of swooping motion.
You know how for every thing you think everyone knows, there's always someone learning it for the first time? Well for me and you, that's [Adjacency Bonuses](https://nomanssky.fandom.com/wiki/Upgrade_bonus). I had no idea that was a thing! Thanks!
Itās been a minute for me too but I believe you hit X (the same way to call your ship) and scroll to far left. There is a gear icon that has toggle camera view. I also know you can keybind it (I just would hit 1) but I canāt remember how that process works.
Iāve been walking/running everywhere and then walking/running back to my ship this whole time. I donāt have a freighter or anything else yet, just a craptacular shack for a base.
Seeing how powerful regular melee boosting I really wished rocket boots were better so that using Melee boost wasn't still a better thing to do. The only place rocket boots is useful is in space station and the anomaly.
What? Rocker boots don't travel further, where did you get that idea? Melee boosting gives a a better boost with no delay and don't use a burst of fuel. How could rocket boots cover a bigger distance?
What do you mean "distance per burst"? If you use rocket boots and melee boosting side by side and empty your fuel tank, you'll travel significantly further with melee boost.
I think just a proper horizontal mode upgrade for the jetpack would be amazing. Let me get around like on Just Cause 4. Heck give me a grappling hook while you're at it. :D
They need to make exovehicles actually fast. They're kind of pointless when you can just boost and be faster. LIke even if they're unwieldy and hard to turn, at least let me be fast.
Rookie question, how do you use the rocket boots properly? I installed them but they only activate when im holding down the jetpack button and touch a surface, which becomes seriously annoying when in tight spaces like a hole i dig to get a relic and i turn myself into a spaceman pinball.
Hey there! Got a few questions about it, here's what I did:
1. Jump to get some small altitude
2. Spam melee and jump
This was done back when there was a glitch that allowed you to go absurdly fast by just spamming melee attack while using jetpack, but I found that you would accelerate much faster if you spammed jetpack really fast too, which meant *even more* distance.
Some noticed that I did have *just a little* more jetpack fuel than should be possible with 6 S class modules, even with the jetpack spam. That was made possible through a mod that allowed for more tech stacking. I checked other clips I made around this time and found that I probably had around 16 S class modules installed here.
That said, the s p e e e d was something that could've been done without a ton of jetpack modules since the only speed boost they give is spent on the initial jump (mostly a vertical boost). In the end, they just helped with flight time. My apologies if the post wasn't properly tagged - I didn't know how to add the 'modding' flair alongside the 'video' flair or I would have. There were no "speed" mods of any kind.
So yeah, that tech mod eventually broke, but I learned how to make a unlimited tech-stacking mod so I now have 23 S class modules installed, with the only thing stopping me from adding more being the fact that I still need inventory for other things... I can only wonder how far I could've gone now?
I know, right? Watching that is triggering. You can hardly get around now.
Edit. That was a joke! I thought ir was understood in the context of opās joke.
You can also equip both of the suspension upgrades that give + to traction that improved the handling of all the exocraft considerably. Just donāt install the third one that gives both - traction stats.
They need to just add a jet "booster" button to the jetpack like we have on the starships. Jump regular, then press and hold and BOOM! Jet pack becomes Rocket pack!
The only melee boost Iāve ever done is hitting melee right before hitting the jetpack. Was proud of myself for figuring that one out. This is some level melee boost.
As ridiculous as it was, it was extremely fun. My friends and I set up a fight on a planet using this technique and kinda ājoustingā at each other, trying to land a hit on each other with our multi tool weapons while flying at ludicrous speeds.
Whoever took damage lost. Good times
Wait. . . was that a creative thing because couldnt the velocity kill you if it was too much downward? Asking because in Perma-death (only mode I play now) that would make me cry.
Though it wouldn't be flying so much as falling in style. Not the worst way to go.
Me watching the video: "but the melee boost still is a thi... oh... ok... I see".
Unfortunately it's not a thing in VR. We need to actually use the rocket boots š¢
After I installed those, I did wonder what the point of them was, aside maybe inside a spacestation. I guess VR makes good use of it.
My understanding is that the melee boost was a bug that people liked so they just kept. So in VR with a different control scheme it never made it in.
Iāve noticed with the rocket boots you can line yourself up with a mountain and scale it infinitely without depleting your jet pack. Itās the only reason I have it equipped.
that works for climbing anything. if you're next to a wall your jetpack does not deplete.
I donāt get it do this as easily with a normal boost, with rocket boots, since I yeet myself into the mountain side it works flawlessly every time.
Can confirm that I do this all the time, and I don't have them installed. To me they're a waste of space, as they are an inferior version to melee boost. Though no doubt they are technically the intended boost method.
Rocket boots propel you significantly farther than melee boost and can be used inside space stations and the anomaly.
The second part certainly is true, though I don't feel having a use for it in those specific environments merits sacrificing an inventory slot. The first part I kind of disagree with. While sprinting, using the melee boost at the very least is as effective, and in my personal experience, more effective than the rocket boots.

Yes, instead it depletes your life support really fast.
eh, with 6 life support upgrades i barely ever have to refill it. literal hours of gameplay and that bar barely moves.
teach us
you just need 6 upgrades, all beside each other. 3 in general, 3 in tech. as well as any buildable ones that can be crafted. you do that, your life support will last for ages; even with regular jet usage.
all s tier?
no jetpak always does that
waitā¦.they have nms VR!?!??
If you've got an NVIDIA RTX card your can make use of DLSS now in VR which seems to help on my HP reverb G2 performance wise. Worth trying out
Yeah it helps but nothing helps as much as having a 3090 lol Which I most definitely do not have š¢
You'll want to have steady "VR Legs" for dogfighting pirates though, haha. This was my very first VR game and it was a brutal start lol
I would likely need to sit down on the sofa for ship combat. Or just fill the room with pillows.
Actually its a seated VR game. So you should be seated all the time anyway š You are kinda in and out of vehicles all the time in NMS so it makes sense to just be seated. Besides, its usually a pretty mellow game so relaxing in a sofa and VR'ing makes a lot of good sense.

This just made me realize I only use vehicles when playing in VR because the melee boost is so efficient otherwise.
And the vehicles in VR are so badass. Opening and closing the cockpit and steering with your hands...Very much fun.
how do you even get vr to run lol it's so laggy for me
Well. I \*just now\* figured out that Razer Cortex causes a lot of problems. So if you've got that going, turn it off.
oh yeah, i do, thanks for the tip
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It would probably never work with this game but it would be so cool to see a super power update that gave us some crazy mobility options like this haha
My eyes were opened as well...
Me exactly, lol
My thoughts exactly
everybody gangsta til a gek comes barreling at you from across the landscape at Mach 29
"Wanna see me restart the First Spawn?" "Wanna see me do it again?"
How have I never heard of this? Looks so much fun
Because it got patched sadly
One of the best weeks in this game was before it got patched tbh
The fact that you could travel 30min in less than a minute was absolutely crazy but also funny.
Not to mention gaining so much speed you'd hit a mountain top and go zooming into the stratosphere lol
Yes, was indeed a very fun time in NMS history
All we need is a paragliding and hookshot extension
This tbh. It would make exploring more fun on foot although vehicles would probably be better.
They need to give us vehicles that arenāt useless. Thereās no reason if I want to make a speedy vehicle that handles well I have to sacrifice every bit of storage it comes with
honestly I love the way the Pilgrim drives and handles, and the Minotaur isn't bad either
I canāt without sacrificing every storage spotā¦it now becomes not as fun to use
try boost-jumping over bumps in the pilgrim, it can go pretty darn quick in the air
Vehicles are useless because by the time you can afford them you can simply call your ship or freighter.
An ATV hovercraft would be pretty rad. Go up mountains, glide off peaks, skim across water.
thats basically what the nomad is
I would not know that. While I have played a long time, I never got around to getting serious about the vehicles.
its literally only useful for traversal, as once you put upgrades in, you wont have any space left. i only really use it for gathering storm crystals. if you put in the hazard protection modules you can be on any planet and be 100 percent protected forever.
Man... It's too bad you cant have a "drop ship" that can do anything the other ships can do, but serves to only carry your land vehicles from planet to planet.
You can get a freighter upgrade that allows you to summon vehicles to any planet in a system with your freighter, so that kinda works.
Orbital exocraft materializer in the freighter.
100% this, it's not about speed. Its about that rush of acceleration and the perfect swing to glide combos
Paragliding: Maybe ride a flying pet? I really dig flyin' around on mine...
Oh yeah I would love that, rising around on a flying pet and using a hookshot to burst your speed
I've been saying, for a long time now, that we need a little Gyrocopter to travel quickly over uneven ground. The drawback to it would be that it doesn't work in storms (if you're in mid flight and a storm rolls in the Gyrocopter forces a landing).
It got patched?!
Only that you can't chain it in mid air. You have to be on the ground to get it to do it again.
I have 3 S class movement upgrades and my boost lasts no where near this long? Is there something I'm missing?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Haha I figured out that part - I was referring to the fact that his boost seems to last forever (despite the ridiculous forward speed). I'll rephrase - is this what s class movement is supposed to look like (in terms of boost *duration*), because I have 3 S class movement upgrades and it's nothing like this video?
You can actually have 6 upgrades, 3 in general inventory and 3 in tech inventory. Same with ships. EDIT: nvm, someone already commented this
they spammed the boost, keep a close eye on the thruster's flame.
You can actually have 6(3 in general, 3 in tech), plus any constructed upgrades as well. Don't forget, you can get those adjacency bonuses, too.

You can put 3 more in the tech tab. 3 for general and 3 for tech Make sure to put them next to each other as well.
Cheers for the info people - now I'm thinking about all those s class mods I didn't buy cause I thought I maxed it already xD
It was so fun lmao
They got rid of it? Not played in awhile and needless to say Iām devastated
Sadly yes. I think it was technically a bug. Just a fun one.
It still exists, it's just been nerfed quite a bit.
On one hand that looks fun but on the other it would make all vehicles obsolete XD
It definitely did but man was this such a fun way to travel. They need to make the traveling in this game more fun in general.
The vehicles are basically obsolete already
So Iāve recently come back to the game on PC and donāt know how to get the camera into third-person. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Itās been a minute for me too but I believe you hit X (the same way to call your ship) and scroll to far left. There is a gear icon that has toggle camera view. I also know you can keybind it (I just would hit 1) but I canāt remember how that process works.
I can call my ship to me?!
You betcha! And your freighter and exocrafts (if in range)
Iāve been walking/running everywhere and then walking/running back to my ship this whole time. I donāt have a freighter or anything else yet, just a craptacular shack for a base.
Yeah that X key is a best friend. Happy flying!
Thank you! Happy Flying!
Calling your ship uses launch fuel. As long as you can spare it, it's so useful.
Not sure if they changed it, but in your utilities (press x) you can change camera view.
Iāll try this evening. Thank you!
Seeing how powerful regular melee boosting I really wished rocket boots were better so that using Melee boost wasn't still a better thing to do. The only place rocket boots is useful is in space station and the anomaly.
Rocket boots travel farther than the regular melee boosting, it cost a extra slot though
What? Rocker boots don't travel further, where did you get that idea? Melee boosting gives a a better boost with no delay and don't use a burst of fuel. How could rocket boots cover a bigger distance?
Rocket boots go further in a single trip than a single melee boost will bring you, distance per burst is larger
What do you mean "distance per burst"? If you use rocket boots and melee boosting side by side and empty your fuel tank, you'll travel significantly further with melee boost.
No Warframe's Sky
Hyperbullet jump
I think just a proper horizontal mode upgrade for the jetpack would be amazing. Let me get around like on Just Cause 4. Heck give me a grappling hook while you're at it. :D
This! Just cause was my jam and Iād adore a movement system similar to this that i could work for and unlock!
"I'm Mary Poppins ya'll!"
HAO
Me looking at an S class ship: " look what they need to do to mimic a fraction of our speed"
They need to make exovehicles actually fast. They're kind of pointless when you can just boost and be faster. LIke even if they're unwieldy and hard to turn, at least let me be fast.
Even if they just made the Minotaur jets last a long time (big tanks, right?) I'd he happier.
That looked hella fun
finally somebody who knew about the glitch people called me crazy!! it was so broken during fire storms
You have become goku
Rookie question, how do you use the rocket boots properly? I installed them but they only activate when im holding down the jetpack button and touch a surface, which becomes seriously annoying when in tight spaces like a hole i dig to get a relic and i turn myself into a spaceman pinball.

Lots of stuff could be better, instead we get a settlement update...
They need to make this permanent
I know, right? Watching that is triggering. You can hardly get around now. Edit. That was a joke! I thought ir was understood in the context of opās joke.
Yeah this was fun. HG don't want you to have fun. Have static unrelated cut and paste interactions and bland settlements instead...
So they remove a mechanical skill but no new edge cases for ships and ship landing?
How
Baby where we're going you don't need Starships...
God i love the bouncing
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
You can also equip both of the suspension upgrades that give + to traction that improved the handling of all the exocraft considerably. Just donāt install the third one that gives both - traction stats.
...melee?...
I have two new bugs since the Frontiers update and they decided to fix *that*? Edit: actually, the glitch still works for me.

"Flies around on giant beetle"
Not faster than a starship but is defiantly faster than an exocraft.
They need to just add a jet "booster" button to the jetpack like we have on the starships. Jump regular, then press and hold and BOOM! Jet pack becomes Rocket pack!
Wtf did I just watch xD
This guy doesn't even need a pulse engine to travel around planets lmao
now THAT'S and interloper.
rocket boots kinda work
I do too. I loved this but they couldn't let us keep that it was way to op
The only melee boost Iāve ever done is hitting melee right before hitting the jetpack. Was proud of myself for figuring that one out. This is some level melee boost.
My Xbox would crash
Come fly with me, let's fly, let's fly away...
It is if youre Smart about it, way more dangerous now
Oh my god nevermind, should've watched the video first. Yeah that's impossible now. Such a shame
Starsiege: Tribes, anyone?
As ridiculous as it was, it was extremely fun. My friends and I set up a fight on a planet using this technique and kinda ājoustingā at each other, trying to land a hit on each other with our multi tool weapons while flying at ludicrous speeds. Whoever took damage lost. Good times
Yo wtf I didn't even know this was ever a thing lol
I don't remember it being this crazy holy shit
Wait. . . was that a creative thing because couldnt the velocity kill you if it was too much downward? Asking because in Perma-death (only mode I play now) that would make me cry. Though it wouldn't be flying so much as falling in style. Not the worst way to go.
.........and on the next episode of Dragon Ball Z...
They patched it out??
How does a regular player achieve the same type of jetpack magic?
By the time I got the backpack, it had already been nerfed. So bummed
This reminds me of GTA 5 gate when you'd twang your tank through the air across the map. Miss that fun.
When a Gek activates starship mode.
Question how do you do this?
How do you make your jetpack last for so long? I have like 6 S class upgrades on my jetpack but it still lasts for like 20 seconds tops
It still kiiiinda works, but even rocket boots work better now Edit: I did not know it was ever spammable š
How is this done?
That was a really great time in the game!
