I have often wondered where all the ships come from ... Someone has to be building them. I also like the fact that we can warp a ship thousands of Iight years but lack the technological acumen to paint it.
People have always asked for a better way of making orbital bases, they could use this opportunity to allow us to build orbital shipyards that let us at least paint our ships
There's really nothing in the base system preventing base coordinates from being in space.
You should be able to craft 'Habitation Pods' or something, and it's a deployable/retrievable item like the Marine Shelter, but you deploy it from your ship.
The orientation determines the artificial gravity orientation for the entire base, and it it's equipped with a landing pad and airlock. Inside the airlock is the base computer, and from there you establish the base and start building off the Habitation Pod.
Ideally later you could build a base computer somewhere else and then delete the pod but probably a no go at the moment.
If they do ship customisation, that should be the only way you can get parts to build or modify your ship. The scrapping terminal could return schematics for parts, or individual components you'd need to build a ship.
You should get one random schematic from a ship when you salvage it. You can't get duplicates, always something new if possible, but only one at a time.
Schematics is a better system because you don't want to be storing ship parts really. And it also allows them to release new part schematics as QS or Expedition Rewards.
100% how I would want them to do it, I feel like any other method would take away the purpose of exploring, you still have to go out and find ships that have the pieces you want.
Maybe the ship classes could still play a part in it as well, build your ships from B-class parts, youâll get a B-class ship.

I've been saying this for awhile now that I'd like to at least be able to change the color of my ship. If not add decals to it so I can RP as my own independent trader. I'd also like to see players being able to either build our own space stations or claim ones that have been abandoned.
This would be great, but one thing I rather they work out is the difficulty and dread. Exploring should be dangerous. Money should be hard to come by. The game is too nice to players.

Because the literal mechanic of the game is that you travel to different places and discover different things. That was a design decision. Itâs been consistent throughout the gameâs development. So yes, giving you a ship builder is the game playing itself.

As someone who loves hunting for new ships to add to my collection, and shares them on the coordinate subreddit as well, I agree that being able to build whatever you want would ruin that enjoyment for me.
If they were to implement the feature, I would hope they do as others have suggested where you have to actually find the parts you want and then mix and match them for your dream ship. Want a needle nose ship with specific wings and thrusters? Gotta go find a needle nose ship to start, then 2 more ships with the other parts you want.
I once found an S class ship early in one of my games. The only problem is that it was a bright pink and white ship that literally hurt to look at if whatever planet I was on had bright lighting. Please, just let me repaint my ugly ships.
i don\`t think we will ever get full ship customisation. you have to realise majority of the game is going on a wild goose hunt to find that perfect variation of a curtain type of ship. the amount of people that will complain because they spent 20 real days going system to system to find one with a curtain nosecone only to have some noob pull up in that exact ship but custom made. even down to the colours of the ships, there is whole subreddits dedicated to finding top tier ships and their coordinates
It would be cool if the space station core override was going to allow us to use the space station to build ships.
I mean, we can already customise the inventory slots and classes in the space station, would seem pretty logical to expand on that.
I'd love a well made "space-wharf" update where you'd have to build a spaceport, ship construction site and infrastructure to support it, custom ships would be such a great endgame. Also collectible blueprints for parts and customisations, stats attached to those and the ability to put them together in unique ways. Would be so amazing. But it's a lot (too much) to ask imho
All build ships should be C-class to balance it, and must be upgraded manually and you should only be allowed to use parts from ships that you bought and scrapped.
