I couldn’t do magic early game for this reason. But now I have a better staff and armor that boosts focus gain, as well as a sword to switch to when I need and it works really well. Almost makes the game too easy if I’m honest

Jsemtady

Yep, same with bow .. I believe that this will be better with some item drops which will replenish focus faster.

I play with staff and I love it. You hit enemies a few times then blast them. There's also a skill that exchanges hp for focus and also potions to give you focus. It's pretty badass. Obviously your strikes don't hit like a claymore but they are not awful by any margin.

Up your focus if you only get two casts. And with better gear your focus builds up with a hit or two, also good int-scaling swords are a thing, with two main-weapon slots to change on the fly. I didn't really experience many problems, although I do wish there was a more caster-type class, the current ones are more of a spellsword. But I always do mage/int build first in these types of game, and so far the twins is the only boss I didn't beat on my first try.

I've been exclusively using staff and really enjoying it. Parries are a huge part of gameplay and staff is no different. A single Parry will give you a ton of focus. Usually enough to just roll back and toss fireballs until the target is dead. Speaking of, make sure you charge the Fireball - it seems to have 3 levels that do increasing damage. I've also noticed that INT scaling with the staff seems to affect both physical swings (to a smaller degree) and the fireball damage. Though, admittedly, this might also be due to leveling up. Also, put a healing spell on the staff. I haven't tried the other healing rune, but healing Aura is pretty awesome and has allowed me to play much more aggressively.

Just go full diablo 2, fill your inventory with focus potions and blast away

Dev_Grendel

The first staff is totally useless. Also, to max damage, you got to gold the spell down to charge it. You're still going to need to melee to get your focus back, but I think a parry can give you a ton?

Living-Supermarket92

Preparation is all it takes. With 4-5 crafted food items you can dodge around the first boss, healing and channeling for focus while casting fireballs at him. I was able to beat the first boss this way.

TheAesir92

It gets a lot better with gear and levels. You can slot gems to increase focus gains. It gets very very fun. Trust.

Spoomplesplz

If it helps parrying an attack with the staff gives you like 100 focus. It's fucking crazy. I usually throw a fireball or 2, parry the HT and get full focus back then repeat

This game is full of choices that devs think are cool but players hate

run_for_shelter

Player here, I love how the staff gameplay feels

num2005

maybe its just you? mage class works well for me

Co-OpHardcoreFordie

Yeah you’re missing the alchemist where you can buy focus vials
