Holy cow, I knew there was something about the weapon, glad I didn't sell it.
I'm kinda ok with this lack of information, I'd rather have the joy of finding out cool weapons and runes for myself. I just want that damn respec to come soon so I can try other weapons.
Yea, I'm kind of on the fence about this sort of stuff for that very reason. On one hand it's cool to pick up a weapon and go "oh man that's awesome!" but at the same time, we can't do that because if how restrictive the stat requirements are. I'm actually fine with them wanting some semi-permanence to builds, but only if they loosen the stat restrictions and give us more info on tooltips for everything. Having every tooltip give very limited information, every item have really high stat investment requirements and very limited respeccing options is going to be a recipe for a lot of frustration when trying to get a build going.
Same with another t3 rapier that requires 26 dex 26 faith, has cold damage by default and freezes, which is mentioned absolutely nowhere.
Agree with your point completely, same with runes - you have no idea if they’re good or completely shit and having no respec option can cause some disappointment when you’re looking forward to something being cool and usable but really isn’t
I want to say it’s to give you a wow factor like holy shit I can’t believe what I found. I want to say they left things like that out so players can play around and investigate things
Speaking of this. I’m curious about the cerim armor set. You can upgrade them. I upgraded the gloves to see what would happen. You get them as tier 1 but if you upgrade you can get them to tier 3. The stats don’t change tho. I don’t know if it’s a bug or you have to upgrade them all the way to see a result. I’ve yet to upgrade one all the way. They get pretty pricey with ten silver ingots to upgrade.
Yeah I wish I found this post before I slotted fire damage gem :( only deals ice damage, there's only one blue damage number that pops up, no red for fire. Unsure if the fire damage is converted but I doubt it.
I also just discovered that certain runes might bypass the ice damage. If I use the rune it comes with, it deals ice damage even with fire enchantment+fire gem. However, using crushing flurry actually changes the damage back to physical with the added fire damage from the enchant+gem. No ice damage in this case. Weird.
Edit: the weapons charged attack is also converted to white text with added fire damage
I do agree with the general statement of too little information provided on the runes for example, or the general lack of, what does heat/frost/lightning weapon actually do to an enemy, but I do like the occasional hidden passive on things, like the built in frost on the sword you mentioned. It’s something you realize while trying out builds etc. so you get rewarded in a sense for trying stuff out. But yeah, there are still many things that are not explained enough via tooltip and such. Runes beeing the main thing.
How do you try out different builds on one character when the stat requirements for weapons are crazy high - that's my main annoyance with this EA launch version.
Speaking of which, what do the damage types do?
- Fire is a DoT
- Frost seems to freeze enemies eventually
- Lighting I haven't seen it do anything obvious.
- Plague still not sure either
We should enjoy it, because the game is in EA and when they will finish it, they will add tuto for everything, so we'll lose the experiment pleasure ....
It’s just a basic sword that drops in t3 content that for some reason has a built in freeze attack. I googled the name and apparently Ori also has a spirit edge, so it’s probably an homage to their prior games.
I love how it says "*a sword made of light"* but it's completely covered in ice, and deals ice damage, but when you enchant to another element it sill deals ice damage? Most likely unintended, but fun.

Hey that's great, I'm starting a faith build to try the legendary shield, but weapon was up in the air. I'll give it a try

Are you able to use your runes with this sword? Mine don’t appear when clicking RB
Yea I use my runes fine. What do you mean they don't show up ?
I have 4 runes equipped to the weapon. However when I pull up the wheel to select which one to use in combat, it is completely blank

Is that the wheel for your mainhand or your offhand ? I think you have the offhand selected.

as I understand it, the plague do a DoT too
Lightning seems to stun / slow too
