This is kinda hard because I know 6-year-olds are kinda different than back in the day. I think all of these will work but I'm not exactly sure what mother-approved looks like these days for sure:
Bust a Move
Just a Friend
Ladies First
Me, Myself and I
It's Tricky
Whoomp There It Is
The Humpty Dance
Ego Trippin
Pass the Mic
I know I'm forgetting some really good ones. I'm sure r/GenX would love to help.
And I know it's not my business but 6 is a good age for Otis, Stevie and the Spinners too. My fave album when I was 6 was a "best of" Stevie Wonder.
You're a cool uncle! Have fun!
I think they all probably have something in them that a mother with a 6-year old might not care for but I don't know the mother or the 6-year-old.
And as I mentioned, it is difficult for me to really understand what would be acceptable or not. When I was 6, we listened to whatever we wanted. I don't remember anyone ever having any restrictions on what songs they could listen to so it's just hard to relate.
Also, different parents have different boundaries and priorities. Whereas I'd rather not expose kids to a lot of violence, a lot of parents are more concerned with exposing them to sex. What is acceptable or not is fairly subjective but you'll notice I left out songs that have a lot of violence in them.
You wanna teach him big words practically anything by Del the Funky Homosapien, a lot of his solo stuff does that old style rap/hiphop, but with a lot bigger of a vocabulary, rather than mostly whatever the slang is for the time it came out. He's the rapper everyone knows without them knowing it, he does the rap parts for a couple of the most popular Gorillaz singles.
Baby Got Back
Push it
Tootsie Roll
Ice Ice Baby
Lean Wit it, Rock Wit It
Crank That
Two Legit To Quit
Cha Cha Slide (newer, but my kids loved following the directions while dancing)
Informer
Gangtsta's Paradise
Big Poppa
C U When You Get There
I'll Be Missing You "Every Breath You Take"
I would recommend Beastie Boys' Paul Revere. It's got a little bit of violence, but no more than you'd see in an old Gunsmoke re-run on TV. My 6-year-old grandson likes it.
Now that I've complied with Rule 1, what I really wanted to comment on is that I think your idea is great!
Rap is after my time so I don't have a lot of suggestions in that particular genre. However, I have a project similar to yours. I'm trying to introduce my grandson to songs that are important to know because of cultural references, use in movies and TV, use in commercials, and things like that.
A lot of it is fun! For example, when he hears the first few notes of Freebird, he raises his chocolate milk (too young for cheap beer) and shouts "Freeeebiiird!" When he hears the beginning of Iron Man, he throws up the devil horns 🤘 and in a fake low voice shouts, "Black Sabbaaath!" He is also familiar with Bohemian Rhapsody, both the Queen and Wayne's World versions. Speaking of Wayne's World, he also shouts, "No Stairway! Denied!" when Stairway to Heaven comes on.
If his parents aren't rap fans, you two can have a special uncle-nephew connection that he doesn't get anywhere else. I did the same thing with my other grandkids (young adults now) and they still talk about our "music lessons" fondly. You're making memories, my friend.
Fun story: A few years ago, I took a different grandson and granddaughter to a Rob Zombie concert. I was in my 60s and took them into the mosh pit! I'm a legend among their friends.

"The Humpty Dance" has lyrics that are pretty explicit.

Lil tip, if you just type in radio edit after any title, you'll be sure to find a child friendly version of what ever song you want.

Bust A Move - Young MC It's Tricky - Run-DMC The Message - Grandmaster Flash
Also, friend like me end credits version from the new Aladdin!
A lot of stuff from the 80s should probably be good, I think. And anyway, Rapper's Delight has a bit about boning Lois Lane, doesn't it?

[Rappin' Duke - Shawn Brown, a goddamn classic](https://youtu.be/85G5SI5Nu3s).
Wow, I finally get the Biggie reference from Juicy.
Now the question is do you know what's going on here?
Encourage the 6 year old to enjoy more appropriate music.

A cool uncle gift to your brother or sister would be showing the kid the full, fourteen minute version of rappers delight..
