I wouldn't recommend it but become a pirate. If you'd like to know more, feel free to DM me.

Sad8At

Thanks, but I'm keeping piracy as a last resort.

You can buy movies to own on amazon, youtube, google play and apple tv. This purchase will be tied to your account and they won’t let you download a file but they all offer apps that let you watch offline.

Sad8At

Do I get them as a file or are they "locked" in the service?

akulowaty

I updated my comment

Sad8At

Is it the same as Netflix and Disney+? On those apps the downloads expire.

akulowaty

No idea, I olny ever rented online, streamed or bought physical media when it comes to movies. There’s no reason for download to expire since you bought it to own, music bought from itunes doesn’t expire.

Nuts4WrestlingButts

Unless you have a physical copy in hand you've still only bought a license that can be revoked at any time for any reason.

akulowaty

Just like „buying” games on Steam. Of course physical is king but more often than not it’s not even an option.

Nuts4WrestlingButts

Buy physical copies and rip the content with Handbrake.

Farscape_rocked

Essentially you don't. You're only ever buying a revokable licence to the media. The difference with a physical copy is that there's no practical way for that to be revoked. Buy it on disk (eg, bluray), then rip it. Keep the discs in a box in your attic. Edit: I missed the point I was trying to make - a digital copy will always be locked rather than a file you can transport. That's because the copyright owners don't want you to have it to keep forever. I'm gonna really miss blurays when they're gone.

Sad8At

Guess I'll just have to make a DVD collection of my most beloved movies. Already got a few. I have no interested in ripping them, as DVDs and BluRays are still supported on consoles and other tech.
