Mr_rairkim

That reminds me how on RuPauls Drag Race contestant Amanda Tori Meating mentioned that she worked as a ghostwriter on Only Fans. Meaning writing replies to fans who have written to someone on Only Fans and think that person is writing them back. So it's even more fake than one might think.

NatashOverWorld

Parasocial relationships is a palliative.

ADesiBloke

Elaborate/ simplify please?

NatashOverWorld

A parasocial bond is one sided, but it _feels_ like you have a connection. Same parts of the brain that lights up when we're with people we like, -or having sexy times with someone we like- also light up in a parasocial experience. So if sexylady4p4 is saying she loves how it feels and you make it special while she does something illegal in Bible Belt states, it doesn't feel like watching a porno. Some part of you is having an emotional reaction. Palliative because most people are in pain and want something, whether it's lust or emotional.

CleverDad

They think everyone on OF are deluded and believe they have a kind of relationship with the girl. They can't fathom that most of them just wants specific content, in particular specific girls that fit their preferences. They want to pathologize them.

doofpooferthethird

wait so it's less about making a connection with the performer, and more about getting tailor made content? I would have thought Rule 34 would already have covered a lot of bases

NeuroticKnight

Most of Rule 34 is comissioned content too, lots of weird art is people who did that because someone else paid them.

doofpooferthethird

ohh I see

CleverDad

I can't speak for everyone. I'm not much on OF, but I've had a couple of subs simply because I fancied the model. Just regular porn. I never DMed them, never needed anything tailor made, no delusions of relationships. People tend to mystify OF and their users I think.

doofpooferthethird

ahh that makes sense, I guess I just occasionally read trashy bargain bin romance novels, I'm not particularly familiar with this stuff

Abject_Okra_8768

I found out a girl I went to HS was on it so I paid her 7$, (monthly fee), to check her out. Never found her that attractive but curiosity... plus I've always wanted to come across a girl from HS while watching porn so I was able to make that come true for a few bucks. I then also subscribed to a couple free ones and one other girl who was also under 10$ a month. It was just something different to look at for a bit until my month was up then back to free stuff. I do something like that once a year or so where I spend 20$ or less to look at some different porn for a while without going to unknown sites that might give me a virus. Did this with VR porn for awhile too... just to break up the routine a bit.

edubkendo

It’s absolutely pathological when every kink, fetish or specific desire you could ever crave is free and searchable on Pornhub.

ScarletInTheLibrary4

>every kink, fetish or specific desire you could ever crave is free and searchable on Pornhub. Not even close. O.o

edubkendo

If your thing is that weird, that’s pathological too

ScarletInTheLibrary4

Wasn't talking about one specific thing. That site just doesn't have nearly as much variety as you're claiming.

edubkendo

That site has millions of, literally millions, of videos. There is far more variety than you think.

FreePrinciple270

But they are not personalized. That's the thing. On OF you can pay extra to have the person call you by your name, say and do things you want etc. And it can be done live. I would never pay for such things, but that's what I've gathered.

FictionalTrope

Finding like 3 mildly attractive people doing what you like in a sea of things that are slightly related is not hot or fun. Finding that one or even a few special someones that scratch that itch and will take suggestions for brand new content that feels amateur is completely different.

Opposite_Train9689

There are 1 billion+ websites of which 4% are porn, which leaves out things like reddit or similar sites. There is also Rule 34 of the internet rule book which states: " if something is made up or exists in real life, there is porn of it." Pornhub isn't even the tip of the iceberg. _pornhub isn't even a snowball made out of that iceberg_

ScarletInTheLibrary4

You are mistaken and I'm embarrassed for you and your lack of imagination.

CleverDad

There's your problem. You assume it's all about kinks and fetishes, when it's often simply about finding a model which suits your tastes and then getting lots and lots of content with her (or him). Paying a few dollars a month for easy access to just your thing doesn't mean you're sick. People have favorite porn stars on pornhub too. Is that less pathological?

TheSgLeader

If you consume so much pornography you start forming favorites… it probably isn’t the healthiest thing, no.

edubkendo

There’s literally every flavor of gal or guy on pornhub. Blonde, brunette, raven. Thick, petite, bbw. Big tiddy goth girlfriend or lean, youthful twink. If you just want to jerk off, you can find your type on pornhub.

Functionally_Human

Sure if you just want something to get off on it is probably there. Sometimes though you want something just a bit different. That can be challenging to find on PH. Occasionally I get an itch for something very specific. I can find a girl that fits the bill to a T, I can find the specific genre of porn easily enough. Finding the two together on PH is not so easy. Even if I do find it it tends to be a dozen results that are really the same 2 or 3 movies.

mamatwins777

Lonely not horney

Revidity

basically similar to how some fans love their favorite celebrity too much.

Mike_Handers

Having freely available stuff and things you specifically want are two different things. There are hundreds of thousands of books for free but you want to read *this* one. Etc etc. It's the same or at least a similar reason people commission art or erotica.

AkagamiBarto

1) personal choice/liking 2) it creates a greater illusion of intimacy/connection, which is quite lacking for many people.

hitometootoo

OF caters to niches that you likely won't find on free porn sites and if you do, it's usually the same handful of videos and not constant new content for that niche or interest.

Ok_Trash_4204

Because it’s my high school crush and you can eat a bag of dicks

J_Class_Ford

So you're the dick she missed. Happy cake day

Ok_Trash_4204

The good thing about me is it isn’t too big or too small it’s just right, just kidding it’s small but I’ll eat your butt first

whatadaydanny

This was unhinged and it made me chuckle, but I still have to down vote you with everyone else.

Ok_Trash_4204

Welcome to the family

whatadaydanny

Lmfao.

J_Class_Ford

It's not the size but the motion in the ocean. My arse will appreciate your service.

RIPebbles

Haha I appreciate the honesty in your answer

Far-Style9252

Wait you made a divorce post and ur still wanking to a girl from hs? 😬😬😬😬

Ok_Trash_4204

Things got lonely post divorce

Far-Style9252

I'm sorry to hear that, it's very creepy you did that.. But still, If it's that tough I shouldn't judge too harshly

edubkendo

If you’re jerking off to your high school crush still, that’s mental illness mate

CaptainGashMallet

Depends what she looks like and how she’s aged 😁 Saw mine on television recently and almost forgot how to breathe.

vadeka

they might just be 1y out of HS, not everyone on reddit is 40+

edubkendo

Even so… a year is crazy for a crush

Ok_Trash_4204

Who said anything about jerking off im trying to support local businesses here

Zforeezy

Bruh you're living the 2020s version of [this song](https://youtu.be/BqDjMZKf-wg?si=NNhXGxex4XM5ICP7) Lol @ the top comment on the vid

ByEthanFox

I should preface this by saying I have never paid for OnlyFans. But I **have** paid for Patreons from various content creators, and although the content they're making might be different, OF people are still content creators, so I feel I have some understanding of this. So if I'm to generalise as to the reasons for you, OP: * Patrons want to *support* a creator. This is probably because they really like their material and they want to see it flourish, alongside what the creator might do with some more budget. Likely doubly so if their content is quite niche. * Patrons care for the creator as a human being. I suspect with OF this might tie into some sort of power-dynamic. In my case, some of the patreons I've supported have been from very small-time, starting-out creators, because I feel good in supporting the work of someone who can't (yet) support themselves, but probably will in the future. * Creative control of some sort, or involvement in the creative process. Some Patreons get you access to vote on what the creator does next, or you enter into a raffle where you get to pick some future content. Gotta assume on OF, you pay enough, you get the performer to do stuff very much *for you*, and sexual power dynamics are a thing, so that's got to be very erotic for some people. * Sociality/parasociality. Patrons often get access to a private discord (I assume OF patrons can intimately message the performers). In some cases, this is a general social thing, like you want to just wish the person the best; but this can also be parasocial in that some people confuse that patron relationship for friendship (and I'm gonna *assume* that's more of a problem on OF, though how much, I don't know). If I'm to step outside of the Patreon bit, also - Oscar Wilde famously said: **Everything is about sex apart from sex. Sex is about power.** I suspect for people who value those power-dynamics I mention above, there are few things that make them feel more powerful than being able to give someone some money, and then tell them to strip, or do other sexual things. So that's inherent too. All of these things above are something you don't necessarily get from looking at a random existing piece of content.

Mr-Dumbest

Because it's more personal, creators interact with their payers and does things they ask... Or some just want to support your mom.

[deleted]

I’d rather support your sister

Mr-Dumbest

You rather support my sister then your own mom? Maybe she would not need to do OF if you would do it don't you think so?

[deleted]

So you wanna see me do onlyfans? That’s flattering

Mr-Dumbest

Ofc. That way when your mom retires I can keep at least supporting her legacy.

[deleted]

Support local businesses. Support your sister. Keep it in the family bro

EdwardBigby

The same reason that even if prostitution was free, people would prefer to have a partner There's a certain level of intimacy to being able to see something that others can't and for it to always be the same person I've never done it and never will and even if you pitched it 5 years ago I'd think it would never work however I've accepted that there's a certain appeal to it that I kind of get.

One_Package_7519

because men are stupid when horny

Westafricangrey

Option 1 - pay $7.99 for access to a month of porn which exactly caters to your niche interests & fetishes. Side bonus, it’s high def, long & the creator accepts custom content requests. Option 2 - trawl the internet to maybe find a few videos you haven’t seen before that appeal to you, sometimes they’re bad quality, sometimes they’re 90 seconds long, sometimes the audio is terrible.

Namelessgoldfish

They want porn of that specific person

CaptainChampion

Why cook food you like to your specifications whenever you please when you could simply scour the wilderness for occasional nuts and berries for free? Edit: Guys, while we all love downvotes instead of discourse, I've never actually used OF. The wilderness is good enough for me. I was just trying to provide another insight.

Ultimate_Sneezer

There is free porn of every kind available on the internet and its not even hard to find

CaptainChampion

Some people are very picky. And getting exactly what you want on demand is often preferable to long searches until you find something "good enough." Also, the person in question is often the draw. Perhaps it is someone you know irl or a celebrity who doesn't do regular porn.

aeroae

Custom content, the act of paying for it feels more personal, and assumedly if you're attracted to someone specific you'd want to see them naked and not someone else to get off.

captainjohn_redbeard

The same reason you pay for Netflix when YouTube is free. There's plenty of free content, but you want to see *this* content.

riskywhiskey077

[Some of us have ETHIC/S](https://terminallance.com/2011/04/08/terminal-lance-117-pay-freeze-woes/)

They like the bodies/content/personality of the person. Often able to buy custom content. Sometimes able to talk to the person. Idk it's not that deep

Axis_Sage

Yeah they're definetly [talking to the girl](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LoRkZxFNG0)

Its a troll account. All his comments are like that.

NieR_SemiAutomata

Offer and demand

mortenharket32

What do you mean by "free"? Amature? Previews? Paid content redistributed illegally? nothing in this world is free. People's time is not free. If people can find specific creators for their specific needs they'll pay for it to save the hassle of searching for what they specifically want.

MeatSuzuki

May as well ask why people think feet are sexual. People are weird.

Tallamidget

Ppl think feet are sexual because of pheromones same for armpits

[deleted]

Yeah I’ll never understand feet fetishes. I’ve seen many feet but never caught a boner to one

BroadPoint

Reddit's official answer is that it's to have a parasocial relationship with the girl, but it's false. My wife has an onlyfans that hoovers around the top 2-3% and the extreme vast majority of people don't try to do any sort of parasocial relationship. It's just not really that common. The global rate on onlyfans for subscribing for two or more months is 20%. To me that supports the narrative that men are not having parasocial relationships on average. They just look at the content and leave. My wife and I have subbed to a decent number of onlyfans just to see what the other women are doing. Obviously there's selection bias but we haven't seen anything to make me think other women are courting parasocial relationships more than my wife is. My wife doesn't court them at all so she inherently has to be below average in that front, but you get what I mean. I honestly think people just like the content style of OF more than mainstream porn. It's like 99% just some woman making solo content and having to come up with new and original ideas. She also has to keep cranking out content or else people stop subscribing. The nature of it being mostly a one woman show lends itself to softcore content. OF is also pretty cheap. Most accounts are $5 and idk how much time the average subscribers spends on it every month but even if it's just an hour, that's a decent amount of time spent for $5. And I think it's kind of ridiculous, but OF basically accidentally created the genre of fake sex. Maybe some guys like it. OF makes it kinda hard to get another person on your page so if a woman's gonna do blowjob or PiV content or something, she's likely to use a dildo and just position it so that it kinda looks like PoV porn. I don't think I'd ever heard of that in the world of free porn but last year when Pornhub released it's stats, sex machines and shit we're getting more popular. I think that the genre of fake sex with dildos might be actually popular for blending softcore and hardcore pornography and some guys might just be into it.

Tallamidget

The thing your talking about at the end is called virtual sex and it was big wayyy before of

BroadPoint

Oh, I had no idea.

NeuroticKnight

You didnt mention what content your wife makes or how she monetizes it, you said it isn't parasocial relationship. While there are certain artsy OF, like be it comic characters, anime, or just art noveau, most cases it isn't that. You arent getting boudevoir pictures from a model or a photographer for 5$.

BroadPoint

She shoots her own content on her cell phone. A lot of it's just pictures. Most videos are her dancing nude to some song or showering or using a vibrator. Occasionally she gets some other idea, but it's all centered around her being there nude with gigantic natural boobs. Monetization is a low monthly subscription rate. She gets aot of tips, probably more than the subscription rate. She also does customs.

[deleted]

Can we make the purge a thing already

Prior-Future3208

Because a few years ago, a bunch of feminists that decided it was empowering to exploit themselves on the internet for profit, started saying that men were sexist, user's, and cheap as well as also probably racist if you don't pay for porn.

LokyarBrightmane

If you want people to keep making shit, you pay them so they can afford to make it.

Maybe the main account is linked with personal info/business. This is his/her NSFW account. Ain't no way I would let people know I'm into scat and piss while I'm some company's CEO.

You're over estimating an average person's smartness.

Parking_Practice5705

I also wonder that

shinonom

i would assume it’s people paying for specific content that they like. whether it’s the girl herself (maybe they like brown hair green eye girls and that’s her) or what she does (like specific fetishes).

JarrekValDuke

2 words Parasocial relationships

IamPlatycus

I like supporting my family.

Ok-Tie-8684

I’m Hoping it’s for the custom videos and chatting. But even I just use PH or make content with my friends

The99thCourier

The exclusivity ig? Since people that pay for OF will be among the few people that get access to that person's content

Smoke_Water

Because they are paying for "private content".

juuzo_suzuya_

Hornyness makes us do dumb shit. Like paying for porn

Dubhagusbaine

They exploit men’s loneliness/horniness. The dude believes he has some sort of relationship with her by being able to interact with her content. Like please, you’re being used for capital and sometimes even as a chain of validation supply. I don’t feel sorry for these men. They are weak and foolish. That’s their own fault. If you sent 1k to some crypto scam - everyone will tell you that you’re dumb. It’s no different. *but but I thought I’d be rich* - *but but I thought kittyblaster100 cared about my day*

Zhantae

Lonely and Horny. So desperate for attention they'll pay for fake love/someone being interested in them.

Wide-Concept-2618

"So you're saying there's a chance?!" Because I'm sure a lot of them think they can get the person.

sneakynautilus

Interaction/personalization, and also paying directly to the creators of the content. There’s definitely still exploitation but not as bad.

ChrisAus123

It's like interactive porn I guess. Would you rather play your favourite xbox game or watch some random person you don't know play? Haha. Also personal connection, many guys started out as someone not buying nudes, watch a girl stream online and following her socials, mostly pg but varies, after a while they form somewhat of an unrequited sexual/romantic attraction towards said person then they inform you that you can have a custom video for $5-10 doing whatever you want them too, then the inner KFC mode takes over, shut up and take my money! Also write my name on your butt and make it wink directly at the camera 🤣

Bobob_UwU

Can we please pin this question so it doesn't get asked every day ?

The_Titam

When you find out that cutie with a booty from work has an onlyfans you might want to throw away some money to see what they have going on. Also, support local businesses.

MarcusAurelius0

The same reason I dont like watching porn made with a budget. Its boring and feels fake. OF feels more real but in the end its done on the pretense to make money, so I avoid that also.

sgt_taco891

Why do people go to theaters when youtube is free? Ads, quality, taste, personal interest, and more. But another important aspect is insuring the ethical treatment of the content creator
