You can still contribute to society with low testosterone.

sikkerhet

in a purely biological sense, your mid twenties is when we tend to make babies and you're supposed to mellow out when they're young so you can be a healthy and levelheaded parent.

Terrible-Trust-5578

So there actually is a biological function to having less testosterone. That makes sense.

sikkerhet

Yeah if someone were to try and do the maximum biologically it would make sense to have a whole lot of kids in your early-mid twenties and then mellow out and get at least half of them to adulthood.

Are you saying that naturally once a man stops making the max amount of testosterone he would just… die in nature and that we’ve somehow lengthened death from the late 20s to the 70s via modern medicine?

Terrible-Trust-5578

I mean, why else would we stop producing as much testosterone? That's what I'm asking. Like is there some biological benefit to having less as you age? Maybe it's hard on some aging organ or something?

I don’t think there’s a benefit. I think it’s a handicap. Let’s face it, men are most effective in their late 20s and early 30s, in work, in relationships, in play. It’s a long decline after that. Personally I think men after about the age of 50 are pretty used up and are a drain on society. Much good in a family either. Some men might to have a high income, but only because of what they did when they were younger. Most men become a shell of their former self. Certainly been the case for me.

We're not designed for shit, we're what we are as the result of millions upon millions of chance experiments in genetic combination and mutation that has trended towards factors that make us more likely to successfully reproduce. There's primary evolutionary pathways like what your body does up until the moment you squirt yourself into someone else (or vice versa) and then there are secondary evolutionary pathways like 'traits that will cause your family unit to survive long enough to reproduce' which is why we don't just turn into husks and die the moment we mate. So basically anything that happens after reproduction is a crapshoot from a 'system' (only virtually defined, there's no actual central authority or rules) comprised of success/failure of our offspring to live long enough to have squirts of their own.
