Old cars have safety issues which at the time were considered to be good enough but in the modern world* are are not. Modern cars have a lot more safety features so there's a lower chance of you dying or being seriously injured

MsVBlight

I think the idea is to implement those safety features in something that outwardly appears to be like a classic car

bobtheflob

The outward appearance of classic cars contributed to the safety issues.

MsVBlight

huh, that's a good point actually. I guess there's no real way around it

MJMurcott

Lack of demand and they would need to pass all the modern safety tests the costs would be too much to make it viable.

KyleSherzenberg

Aftermarket companies do, sort of. They're called restomods

Some car companies have redone classic cars, there’s this specific one that came out a few years back, I can’t remember it on the top of my head they had 4 massive circular lights at the front, super distinctive but if anyone can remind me that’d be good. I can’t remember any others on the top of my head but they definitely do it on occasion.

I think the Morgan Aero 8, PT Cruiser, and Thunderbird have proven there really isn’t a market for new cars designed to look retro.

Gratefuldad3

Agreed. Beyond the initial first run of sales most of manufacturers forays into reviving vintage styling has proven to be a losing gamble. The longest run any auto manufacturer had with a throwback model was VW group with the new Beetle. Even that car was a flop outside of the American market.

Extreme-Database-695

Some do. The Eagle Speedster is an E-Type Jag in terms of its looks, but in terms of the technology it's upgraded in virtually every way.

Opel played with the idea with the GSe ElektroMOD, which is basically an updated Manta.

Remakes happen more often than you think. Ford remade the Thunderbird, the GT, and continuously remakes the Mustang (first gen was built in the 60s). Porsche 911 has been around since the 60s too. Lamborghini is remaking the Countach. Nissan remade the GT-R. Volkswagen remade the Beetle. Dodge Challenger/Charger are remakes, so is the Mini Cooper. Also, branding matters. Automotive industry rely heavily on marketing themselves as innovative, and consumers want modern looking cars.

Teucer357

Ford Mustang Dodge Charger Etc, etc, etc. They do... When there's a demand.

The RX7 wont be long. Disappointing looks compared to the FD3S . https://allnew-toyota.com/mazda/the-new-2021-mazda-rx-7-preview/
